I would like to be in touch with descendants of John M. GOODNIGHT and his wife Harriet R. STIREWALT, aka Hattie. In the 1910 Federal Census, Polk Co MO, Pleasant Hope Village, part of Mooney Twp, John age 48 and Hattie age 36 had been married 13 years and had only one child Carl [H.] age 5. Hattie's mother [A] Manda E. STIREWALT, [nee PRICE], lived next door. By the 1920 census, John and Hattie are still in Polk Co MO, Mooney Twp. A daughter, age 8, Wilma L. Goodnight has been added to this family. Mother Manda is not next door. A family history is being written. We very much would like for this family to be represented. Thank you.

ACUFF, CATES, LAMB posted by Dorann Doub on Sunday, March 28, 1999

On 08 Aug 1844, Elijah LAMB married Martha G. CATES in Polk County. They both had roots in TN. Why were they in Polk County? Were one or both related to families already there? Living in Polk County ca. 1840 were Ransom CATES, N(ewell?) CATES, and Moses LAMB. I know that Elijah's father was Peter LAMB and in 1840 he lived in Maury County TN. Who was Moses LAMB? Martha was born 1818 in NC; I have tried to associate her with the large Ransom Cates family, but she was too old to have been a daughter, tho' there was an unaccounted for daughter in Ransom's family in 1840. Does anyone have access to a 1844 tax list? Peter LAMB could have been there in 1844, as well as his son Elijah, but both had returned to TN and on to KY by 1850. Martha CATES' mother may have been Margaret CATES who lived in Weakley County TN in the 1850 census. Living with Margaret Cates was an 18-year old Nelson ACUFF; I understand Nelson ACUFF was the s/o Jeremiah ACUFF, one of the early settlers of Polk County. Nelson's mother was a Cates and his parents were from Grainger County TN. Need help! Thanks. Please email me as well as posting on the board.
