LESSLEY, LESSLY, LESTLEY posted by Carole Brace on Wednesday, December 25, 1996

LESSLY/LESSLEY I am researching my great-great-great grandfather James Elkins LESSLY (also spelled LESSLEY). He was born about 1819 in Kentucky and moved to Missouri sometime before 1842. He appears in the 1850 census for Polk County (the surname is misspelled as LESTLEY) along with his wife Emily (Liza), and their first 3 children, John H., George W., and Charles A. James and Emily had four more children, the last of which Paul LESSLY was probably born in Bolivar. Also listed in the 1850 census for Polk county is a John LESSLEY. Living with him are a Mary LESSLEY presumably his wife, and two daughters, Judith and Almira, and one son John M. The two LESSLEY families appear right next to each other on the same page. I would really like to find out just how the two families are related. Family stories always indicated that the first of James Elkins children were born in Randolph County yet he is listed in Polk County in the 1850 census. James and his family (and John M. LESSLEY)later appear in Randolph County in the 1870 census so maybe the family had property in both counties and moved back and forth between them. I have no idea where the family is in the 1860 census. More recent research I have done indicates that James Elkins LESSLEY and his two oldest sons John and George served in the Confederate army and listed Polk County as their home. Also serving in the same Confederate unit as James and John H. LESSLEY is the afore mentioned John M. LESSLEY who is presumably related to my line. Anyone interested in exchanging information of any sort on this family is welcome to contact me.

FRAZIER, HUMAN, ROGERS, SKINNER posted by Dorothy Zongker on Sunday, January 19, 1997

I am researching the SKINNER and ROGERS name. Russell Rogers was 11, and a brother Oliver, was 9 when the 1860 census was taken. They were living with their aunt whose husband was Dr. FRAZIER. She was a Skinner. Not much is known in my family about the Rogers and Skinners and hopefully, someone has some data on them. My great grandmother Cinderalla (Human) Rogers married Russell Rogers. Cinderella's father was William Carroll HUMAN and his father, James Gundy Human, was the founder of Humansville. I recently became a member of the Norhtern Cherokee Indian Tribe in Clinton, MO after establishing a connection to my Cherokee Indian Grandmother, who was James Gundy Human's mother.
