HENSLEY, HOUSE, LAFORCE, LINCOLN, PITMAN, ROARK, THOMPSON, TITUS posted by Charlene Hook on Thursday, May 8, 1997

What relation was SARAH HENSLEY, age 12 in the 1850 Cedar Co., Mo., Census to the LAFORCE family with whom she resided? Was Samuel LaForce's wife her much older sister? About 1856 SARAH HENSLEY married DANIEL ROARK, who was born in 1812--she was born in 1838. They had three children all still minors when DANIEL died during the Civil War and when SARAH died in 1867 in Nebraska. (Daniel had been married twice previously and had several other children) By 1870 the three minor children of DANIEL and SARAH are back in Polk Co., Mo., where son ALLEN THOMPSON LINCOLN ROARK is living with the family of WM. J. HENSLEY in Dwelling 264 in Looney Township. ALLEN is listed in the census only as ALLEN THOMPSON, but this is incorrect, as proven by several affidavits in the 1812 record of DANIEL ROARK. That child's name was: ALLEN THOMPSON LINCOLN ROARK The other two minor children were KIZZIAH JANE, b. 1858 in Benton Co., Ark., who married JOSEPH PITMAN, son of A. J. PITMAN. They resided in Polk Co. The other minor child was BENJAMIN FRANKLIN ROARK, who was b. 23 Jan. 1860 in the eastern part of Cedar Co., Mo. (pursuant to affidavit of the midwife who delivered him). He married 28 Feb. 1888 to MARTHA JANE WILEY, of Polk Co., daughter of JOHN WILEY and SUSAN ALICE TITUS, and granddaughter of ALEXANDER WILEY and LOUISIANA HOUSE. Very interested in the connection between the HENSLEYS and the LaFORCE families, but also work on and will assist anyone with the ROARKS or other families mentioned here.

COMELY, SPRATT posted by Roseanne Montgomery on Saturday, May 17, 1997

COMELY, ENOCH GRAHAM-- Am looking for information on my husbands greatgrandfather Enoch G. Comely. This man is very illusive. He apparently was a lawyer, and was living in Polk County, MO 7/15/1876 when he wrote a letter to his daughter Melvina in Kentucky. Enoch was married to Paulina SPRATT in Garrard Co., KY in 1840. He gave consent for his daughter Melvina;s marriage in 1861. He possibly died in Little Rock in 1881. We can find no census records for him and have no knowledge of his family. Would appreciate if someone could check on him in 1876. I know this is very little to go one, but am hoping that someone will come up with some information on this man. Melvina was in the Garrard Co., KY 1850 census, living with her maternal grandmother. Perhaps she was born in MO and perhaps her mother died there. Possibly in childbirth. Thanking you in advance, Mailing Address: 2027 Bonifacio Street, Concord, CA 94520

CALAWAY, no spouse. Children: SYRINE S or SQUIRE S. age 19, SARAH age 18, JAMES P. age 14, ISAAC N. age 10, CAREY ANN age 9, MARION age 2. 1860 Lawrence Co Census, Gilbert's Station: JAMES CALLOWAY age 24, wife ELIZABETH age 24, CAREY ANN age 19 (James's sister), MONSON/MARION age 12 (James' brother), CHARLES age 10, EPHRAIM age 5 (JAMES' brothers?). Need to find descendants of any of these people except CAREY ANN. I want to find out more about her. I have a charcoal drawing of her which was probably from her wedding picture. She is my great, great grandmother who married JOHN SLAGLE, son of JAMES and HANNAH (CANTWELL) SLAGLE. CAREY ANN traveled to Oregon in 1870 with her daughter, HANNAH. In California, CAREY ANN gave birth to their only son, CHARLES in 1870. In 1875, CAREY ANN gave birth to MINNIE FLORENCE. Carey Ann died March 26, 1876 in Oregon. .

CALLOWAY, CANTWELL, SLAGLE posted by Glenda Lewman on Sunday, May 25, 1997

SLAGLE: JOHN and CAREY ANN (CALLOWAY) SLAGLE. JOHN b. 1838 in Polk County. CAREY ANN b. 1841, probably in Boone County, Mo. JOHN'S parents were JAMES and HANNAH (CANTWELL) SLAGLE. JOHN and CAREY ANN were married in Bolivar 12/6/1860. They had their first daughter, HANNAH LEAH in November, 1861, near Bolivar, presumeably near Slagle, Mo. In the 1860 Polk County Census, JOHN, before he married CAREY ANN, was living with a relative, also JOHN SLAGLE, age 58, b. KY and his two daughters, JANE (probably Diannah Jane) and MARY. According to the census numbers, JOHN's place was near other SLAGLES: REUBEN, JAMES, and ABRAHAM. I want to know where and with whom JOHN and CAREY ANN were living after they married until they went to Oregon in 1870. JOHN served in the Confederacy and was mustered out at Clarksville, TX in April, 1865. I assume he went back to Slagle, Mo and tried to earn a living, then decided to follow his uncle, CONRAD SLAGLE of Dade County, and other SLAGLES who had already gone to Oregon. glewman@redshift.com 1161 Amador Ave., Seaside, CA 93955-5205

Information about Sarah Jane HUGGINS and William Harvey SNODGRASS, such as place of birth, parents, where they lived before they moved to the Polk and Dallas Co. area, would be of great help!
