CLEO LELAND JADWIN - Son of Luther Jadwin and Delma Brigman Jadwin, was born December 25, 1916, in Jadwin, Mo. and passed away February 7, 2004, in Jadwin at the age of 87 years, one month and 13 days. Cleo is survived by his wife, Fern Jadwin, of Jadwin, Mo.; six children, Janet Vasel and husband Gary, of Fenton, Mo., Dennis Lee Jadwin and wife June, of Jadwin, Clinton Jadwin and wife Sue of Jadwin, Wayne Jadwin and wife Linda, of Sparta, Mo., Clifford Jadwin and wife Susan, of Salem, Mo., Roger Jadwin and wife Janie, of Salem, Mo.; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Aleta Brady, of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, Lester and wife Ava Jadwin, of Jadwin; one step daughter, Barbara Koch and children, of Illinois; several cousins, nieces and nephews; one niece, Kathryn and husband Jerald Conway, of Eminence, Mo. He is preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter and his first wife, Hattie Elizabeth Drewell. Cleo will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday Feb. 11, at Jadwin Church of Christ. Brother Glen Claxton and Jerry Lough officiated. Pallbearers were Mike Jadwin, Wade Jadwin, Scott Jadwin, Travis Jadwin, Jeremy Cleo Jadwin, Jason Jadwin, Greg Vasel and Casey Jadwin. Burial was at Jadwin Cemetery. All arrangements were under the direction of Spence Funeral Home.

JAMES WILLARD JEFFERIES - Born at Grassy, Shannon County, Missouri on Dec. 23, 1918.  He was married Sept. 6, 1938 to Lucille (Heiney) Jefferies and to this union eight children were born.  One child, June, preceded him in death and also his wife, Lucille Jefferies. He leaves to mourn four daughters, Joyce, Janice and Judy of Everett, Wash. and Joan of California; three sons, James H. of Nevada, John of Montana and Joe of California; his mother, Bessie Grizzle and one sister, Lillian (Grizzle) Ray of Springfield.  He served in World War ll in the South Pacific.  He was a fine and lovely dad, son, and brother.  I feel my brother was a Christian and just crossed over on the other side.  We miss him dearly as all who knew him will. He never forgot the country where he was raised and also he liked country music.  He played and recorded several songs just before he passed away. He also asked his daughter, Janice, about two weeks before he passed away to write a song about Grandma Comely's homeplace.  She wrote it and they sang it at this funeral --titled 'There's Love in This Old House.' SHIRLEY ANN THOMAS JENNEWEIN - Born Nov. 30, 1940, at St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Charles Earl Thomas and Lillian Ione (Sites) Thomas. She passed away Jan. 13, 2010, in West Plains, Mo., at the age of 69 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lillian Thomas and one son, Byron Jennewein. Shirley is survived by one son, Myron Lee Jennewein of West Plains, Mo.; one daughter, Sherry Lee Jennewein of Mountain Grove, Mo.; two brothers, William E. Thomas and wife Carolyn of St. Louis, Mo., and Tommy Thomas and wife Judy of Fenton, Mo.; two sisters, Mary Lee Scism and husband Norbert of Mountain View, Mo., and Jeanette Denny and husband Frank of Pomona, Mo.; 5 grandchildren Jason Jennewein, Jeremy Jennewein, Sara Williams, Angela Jennewein and Charles Dylan Jennewein; and a host of other cousins, family, and friends. Shirley enjoyed reading her Bible and other numerous books. She liked to fish, swim and loved to dance and sing. She also liked to watch TV. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Mountain View, Mo., with Donna Barbrow officiating. Interment was in Greenlawn Cemetery under the direction of Duncan Funeral Homes, LLC.

ARNOLD EVANS JENNINGS - Born May 9, 1911 in Shannon County, MO to Homer Dee and Dorothy Frances (Stringer) Jennings.  He passed away October 16, 1997 at the Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, MO at the age of 86 years. He was united in marriage to Saphronia Shelton on April 13, 1935 at Eminence, MO.  To this union three children were born. Arnold is preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jerry; and one infant brother. He is survived by his wife, Saphronia of Eminence, MO; one son, Dee Jennings of Odessa, MO; one daughter, Joyce Bueter of Prescott, AZ; one sister, Thelma Oxidene of Salt Lake City, UT; 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. Arnold attended the Eminence Church of God of Prophecy.  He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services were held at 3:00 pm Saturday, October 18, 1997 at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Eminence.  

JUNIOR JENNINGS - Age 60 of Frankford. Services held at 2 pm Friday at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Frankford. The Rev. Bill Miller officiated.  Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Frankford. Mr. Jennings died May 22, 1990, at the University of Missouri Medical Center in Columbia. He was born Oct. 3, 1929, in Eminence to Edward Green and Fannie A. Wilkins Jennings. He was married to Luceal (Tooter) Smith on July 8, 1950, in New London. She survives. Also surviving are three sons, Roger Jennings, Robby Jennings and Rodney Jennings, all of Frankford; three daughters, Louise Simpson of Hannibal, Jeannie Gehringer of Vandalia and Donna Kay Finnigan of New Longdon; four brothers, Elbert Jennings and Raymond Dale Jennings, both of Frankford, Denver Jennings of Brundidge, Ala., and Ivan Jennings of Brooks, KY; one sister, Clara Atkins of Memphis, TN;  and six grandchildren. Mr. Jennings was a past member of the Fraternity of Eagles Lodge in Hannibal.  He owned and operated Jennings Saw Mill in Frankford for several years. He played lead guitar and mandolin in his own band, 'String Buster.'  He also played in several other area country/western bands. Visitation was from 6 pm to 9 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Pallbearers were Harold (Skidrow) Hedgpeth, Ray Love, Mac Marshall, Clarence Fisher, John Scherder, Donnie Brewer, Robert Wallace and Wayne Zumwalt.

SOPHRONA DELLA SHELTON JENNINGS - Of Prescott AZ was born April 16, 1916 in Timber MO to Luther and Daisy (CURNET) SHELTON. She went to be with her Lord Friday, November 10, 2006 at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 25 days. Saphrona was united in marriage on April 13, 1935 at Eminence MO to Arnold JENNINGS for 62 years until his death in 1997, and to this union three children were born. She leaves behind one daughter Joyce and husband Tom of Wilhoit AZ; one son Dee of Humboldt AZ; one sister Thelma Thomas and husband Ray of Eminence MO; two brothers Paris Shelton of Arnold MO and Otho Shelton of Matthew MO; her grandchildren DJ and Cody Jennings of Eminence MO; Tina Betker and husband John of Las Vegas NV; Christopher Jennings and wife Kim of Clarksville TN; Leslie Mulcahy of Albuquerque NM; Tracy Blankenship and husband Darrin of Las Vegas NV; Terry Bueter of Prescott AZ; Carl Bueter of Tucson AZ; Bill Bueter and wife Mary Jane of Las Vegas NV; Crystal Erickson and husband Wade of Chino Valley AZ; 21 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Arnold, two brothers, Dale and Perry, and one son, Jerry. A memorial service was held Saturday, December 2, 2006 at 2:00 pm at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Eminence MO with Bro. Bud Younger officiating. JANIE VIOLA WILLIAMS JEREMIAH - Born January 19, 1904 at Eminence, MO the daughter of Charles and Leona (Renfrow) Williams and passed away June 19, 1993 at the West Plains Health Care Center in West Plains, MO at the age of 89 years. She was united in marriage to Frank Jeremiah at Eminence, MO and to this union seven children were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant son, Vincent Carr; one daughter Virginia Massie; four brothers, four sisters, and two great grandchildren. She is survived by her two sons, William E. Jeremiah of West Jefferson, NC; and Glenn D. Jeremiah of West Plains, MO; three daughters, Doris Knuckles of  Poplar Bluff, MO; Betty Rader of West Plains, MO; and Vivian Powell of Bunker, MO; two brothers, Ralph Williams and Brook Williams both of Ellington, MO; two sisters, Meda Brawley of St. Louis, MO; and Mae Rayfield of Ellington, Mo; 16 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends. Janie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eminence where she had attended most of her life.  She has lived in Eminence most of her life until she entered the nursing home 2 1/2 years ago.  She had made many friends in the Eminence area during her life.  She will be greatly missed by all her friends and family. Funeral Services were held Monday  June 21, 1993 at 1 pm at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Eminence with Rev. Alan Stringer officiating. Interment will be in the New Eminence Cemetery under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home of Eminence.

LILLIAN SUSAN 'SUSIE' SELF JOHNS - Susie’s battle with COPD ended Friday July 4, 2008, when she died peacefully in her sleep at Birch Tree Place. Lillian Susan 'Susie' was born November 3, 1934 in Round Spring, MO, the first child to Ed and Jennie Self. Susie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Ray Self and Jim 'Bud' Self; and one brother-in-law, Orin Johns. She was married to Osborne Johns on August 23, 1952 at Salem Fulton Co AR, and this union was blessed with a daughter, Jennie Irene.  She is survived by her daughter, Jennie Irene and son-in-law, Garry Cutts; three grandsons, Jim-O and wife Donna Akers, T.J. Akers and Will Cutts; three granddaughters, Brandie and husband, J.R. Alley, Trina Cook, and Callie Cutts; great-grandsons, Austin, Brandon, Nathan, Mason and Ashton; great- granddaughters, Natalie, Erin, and Nicole; sisters, Rose Mary and husband Earl Thomas, Edalene and husband Sherman Dailey, and Jennie 'Tootie' and husband Dale Pyrtle; sisters-in-law, Amy Self, Bettie Self, and Thelma Johns; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, too many to mention, all of whom were loved deeply. Susie and Ozzie made their home on their cattle farm at Winona, MO. Susie retired in 1992 from Kerr McGee, where she was a truck dispatcher and secretary, and later a supervisor. In the late 50’s and 60’s, she owned and managed the U-Save Café. She enjoyed baking, blessing many local couples with her wedding cakes, and cooking, wanting to feed everyone who came to visit. She had a love and passion for flowers, which could be seen in her beautiful gardens. While her health allowed, she enjoyed stopping by Flossie’s and visiting with the girls. Her greatest pleasure came from her grandchildren and visits from her sisters. Funeral services were held Monday, July 7, 2008 at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Winona MO with Rev. Garry Reagan officiating. Interment was in Mount  Zion Cemetery in Winona, MO under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home of Winona Shannon Co MO.

ALBERTA HUFF JOHNSON 19 Apr 1941 - 24 May 2017		Alberta Lucille Huff Johnson was born April 19, 1941 to Etta and John Huff. She passed away May 24, 2017. She was the 5th of seven daughters. Alberta married Donald Johnson of Greene Co., AR on December 22, 1957. Donald and Alberta have three children, Donald M. Johnson, Jr., Daniel M. Johnson, and Donna M. Tatum.  Alberta is preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; and her beloved husband of 57 years.  She is survived by two sisters, Willette and Helen, three children; four grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.  Alberta will always be in our hearts as she has touched so many lives with comfort, happiness, and love. Interment at Walker Chapel Cemetery, Trask, Missouri.
DOROTHY 'LOUISE' ALCORN JOHNSON 4 Oct 1936 - 28 Jul 2017		Dorothy Louise Johnson was born October 4, 1936 at Eminence, MO the daughter of Ralph Alcorn and Georgia June (Hines) Alcorn. She passed away at her home at Eminence, MO on July 28, 2017 at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 24 days. She was united in marriage to Ralph Johnson on June 11, 1955 at Rockford, IL and to this union four children were born. She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Georgia Alcorn; her husband Ralph Johnson; one sister and one infant brother. Louise worked for many years at the Modern Metal Products in Loves Park, IL. She later worked at Angelica Uniform factories in Summersville and Eminence, MO. Louise enjoyed going to bluegrass festivals in the area. She and Ralph loved to travel and they enjoyed going to the various music shows in Branson, MO. She enjoyed bowling, was active in bowling teams, and she was the bowling coach for the Junior Bowling teams in Rockford, IL. She enjoyed camping with her family when they lived in Rockford, IL. Louise was a social butterfly and she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family wants to extend their heartfelt thank you to Mary L. and Gary Alcorn and Lennet Crabtree for their assistance to the family. Interment in Summers Cemetery, Shannon County.

EDNA MAE BOONE JOHNSON - Born August 27, 1931 at Annapolis, Missouri to Christopher Columbus Leach and Maggie Ruth Boone. Edna went to her heavenly home Thursday morning, July 1st at the Brooke Haven Nursing Home in West Plains, Missouri making her age 78 years 10 months and 4 days. Edna was united in marriage to William Murl Johnson November 3, 1948 at Piggot, Arkansas, making their union 62 years. They were blessed with two children, Linda and Terry Darle. Edna worked for General Motors for many years. She was a devoted Christian, wife, mother and grandmother. In the early years she like to garden, and was often found helping Murl on the farm. Due health problems she was confined to her home she enjoyed her flowers, and visit s from her great grandchildren. Edna attended the Hilltop Holiness in Willow Springs, and when the family moved to West Plains she attended Calvary Church as long as her health permitted. Edna is preceded in death by her two children, Linda Payne and Terry Johnson, two grandchildren, Jeremy Darle and Suzette Johnson; her parents, Christopher and Maggie Leach; her 12 siblings, brothers; Bill, Bobby Howard BH, Glenn Eugene, Charles, Lee, and two infant brothers, sisters, Pearl. Mary Dutch, Alene, Helen, Mildred. She is survived by her husband Murl Johnson of the home; her 3 grandchildren Michelle Varnell, of Moody, MO; Clayton Payne of West Plains, MO, Chris Johnson and wife Heather, of Norwood; great grandchildren, Shane, Jordan Hanna, Blake Varnell; Bethany and Caleb Johnson, and Brittany and Austin Cox. Services were held Saturday July 3rd, 2010 at 1:00 Pm at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel in Summersville with Rev. Charles Barnett officiating. Interment was in Boone Creek Cemetery under the care of Bradford Funeral Home.

HALLIE ANN SMITH WILSON JOHNSON - Hallie had traveled many roads until her travels led her here to the Ozarks where she found peace and contentment. Finding a place of beauty, she raised her two children, found her true love and married the man of her dreams. She had dedicated her life to helping others while enriching the lives of those around her. Hallie had found joy in simple things in her surroundings such as the river and her family. The good Lord had one more travel plan for her and that was to his home in heaven. Hallie Ann was born in Riverside, California on October 19, 1978 to James R. Smith, Jr. and Patricia A. (Molloy) Hermiston. To welcome her to this world were her brothers and sister, Mark, Robbie, and Jackie. As a young woman, she married and to this union two children, Christopher and Briyana, were born. Later, on May 9, 2007, she married Johnnie L. Johnson, formerly of Indiana, on her beloved Current River. They settled in Birch Tree, Missouri, where Hallie was certified as a nurse at Birch Tree Place and was to continue her career in nursing after being accepted in LPN nursing school. She took her final trip on June 13, 2009 with her family by her side. To celebrate her life on earth are her husband, Johnnie L. JANICE LEE 'PEEK' JOHNSON - Born March 26, 1968, at Fredericktown, Mo., the daughter of Rex Farris and Della Marie Johnson. She passed away Sept. 15, 2008, at Eminence, Mo., at the age of 40 years. She was preceded in death by her mother Della Boyer-Spencer, her father Rex Farris, her grandparents Naomi and Henry Boyer; one brother in law Frank “Junior” Stearns; one nephew, Matthew James Menees; three aunts, Bessie Sisco, Ruth Guthrie, Ann Boyer; and one uncle, William Boyer. She is survived by her daughter Jessica Clark and husband Seth of Houston, Mo.; her son, Jerry Lee Peek and wife Jessica Nicole of Winona, Mo.; three brothers J.R. Doughty and wife Teresea of Waxahachie, Texas; Melvin Spencer and wife Janet of Eminence, Mo.; and Melton Spencer and wife Linda of Piedmont, Mo.; two sisters Mavis Stearns of Winona, Mo.; and Reva Lawson and husband Harold of Tennessee; five grandchildren Vannessa M.G. Clark and Phillip R.J. Clark of Houston, Mo., Jeremy Ray Mounsey, Alex Edward Hieney, and Caira Nicole Peek all of Winona, Mo.; nieces and nephews Andrew Phillips of Winona, Mo., Cheyanne Spencer of Texas, Justin Lawson of Tennessee, Melton Spencer II of Piedmont, Mo., A.H. She enjoyed going shopping and spending time with her grandchildren. Janice was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services were held Saturday September 20, 2008 at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Winona with Rev. Darrell Derryberry officiating. Interment was in Mount Zion Cemetery at Winona under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home of Winona.  

RALPH GUSTAV JOHNSON 13 Feb 1929 - 17 May 2014

Ralph Gustav Johnson was born February 13, 1929 in Chicago, IL the son of Gustav William Johnson and Gladys Marie (Pitts) Johnson. He passed away May 17, 2014 at Birch Tree, MO at the age of 85 years. Ralph was united in marriage to Dorothy Louise Alcorn on June 11, 1955 at Rockford, IL and to this union four children were born. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents Gustav and Gladys Johnson; one brother Leroy Johnson; and two sisters Delores Coffman and Shirley Bonavia. Ralph is survived by his wife Dorothy Louise Johnson of Eminence, MO; three sons David Ralph Johnson and wife Linda of Machesney, IL, Dennis Conrad Johnson and wife Melinda of Machesney Park, IL and Douglas Ray Johnson and wife Heidi of Lodi, WI; one daughter Darla June Chilton and husband Michael of Eminence, MO; one brother Bill Johnson an wife Janice of Rolla, MO; two sisters Margie Stelma and husband Mark of Rockford, IL and Mari Wood of Rockford, IL; two brothers-in-law Victor Bonavia of Machesney Park, IL and Gary Alcorn of Eminence, MO; two sisters-in-law Judy Loomis of Birch Tree, MO and Margie Taylor of South Dakota ten grandchildren Kimberly and David Long of Machesney, IL, Matthew Johnson and wife Nikki of Loves Park, IL, Sarah Johnson of Lodi WI, Adam Johnson of Lodi, WS, Anisha Dooley of Winona, MO, Kenneth Chilton, Brandyn Chilton and Dawson Chilton all of Eminence, MO, Whitney Curry of Rockton, IL and Stacie Curry of Oshkosh, WI; three great grandchildren Cadence Johnson and Kensley Johnson of Loves Park, IL and Peyton Chilton of Eminence, MO, many nieces and nephews who loved him very much and a host of other family and friends. Ralph served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star. During his tour of duty he spent time in Japan and Alaska, and was involved in combat in Korea. After his honorable discharge from the United States Army, Ralph enlisted with the Army Reserves until he retired in 1983. Ralph worked as an operator and with machine repair for National Lock Company in Rockford, IL and was a member of U.A.W. Local 449. Ralph was involved with the Boy Scouts Troop 601 in North Park, IL where he served as a Scout Leader for 5 years and the Scout Master for 2 years. Ralph retired as Captain of the North Park Illinois Fire Department after 25 years of service. He was a member of the Clifford E. Johnson VFW Post 9759 in Loves Park, IL and later transferred his membership to the Eminence, MO VFW. Ralph was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eminence. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Eminence Fire Department for several years and served as a trustee with the fire department. Ralph was a Mason and was initiated as an Entered Apprentice on May 3, 1990. He passed to the Degree of Fellow Craft on October 17, 1991, and was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on April 2, 1992. Ralph was the past Worshipful Master of the Eminence Lodge from June 7, 1996 through June 7, 1997. Ralph never met a stranger and was known for his wonderful sense of humor. He loved to play games and do yard work. Ralph loved to travel and enjoyed going to the music shows in Branson, MO. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ralph will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. Visitation May 21, 2014, 6:00-8:00 pm, Duncan Funeral Home, Eminence, followed by Masonic Rites May 21, 2014, 7:00 pm. STEPHEN ANDREW JOHNSON - 75, of Birch Tree, MO - Died Wednesday May 5, 2010 at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center, Poplar Bluff, MO. He was born August 27, 1934 in Smethport, PA, the son of Russell E. and Emily (McCoy) Johnson. Stephen attended the University of Southern Colorado. He was united in marriage to Reva Lena Murphy on February 14, 1997 in Ordway, CO. Survivors include his wife, Reva; two sons, Robin Johnson of Beavercreek, OH, and Wayne Johnson of Orma, WV; two daughters, Pamela Johnson of San Diego, CA, and Gail Johnson-Brown of McAllen, TX; one brother, Barry Johnson; one sister, Mary Anne Gallant; and grandchildren, Philip and Nathan Darrow, and Erik and Brady Johnson. Stephen was a retired United States Air Force member, serving his country from March 1953-August 1964. He served as crew chief/flight engineer on the DC-54, C-47, and DC-3. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Veterans. Stephen loved his wife, his family, and the United States Air Force. He will be missed. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2010 in Yarber Chapel with Robin Johnson officiating. Veda Mae Brooks Johnson - Born May 5, 1943 in Arroll, Missouri, the daughter of Thelma Henryetta Brooks. She departed this life on November 24, 2011 at her home in Willow Springs, Missouri, at the age of 68 years. She was united in marriage to Dal Johnson in Salem, Missouri in 1959. To this union two children were born, Dal Dewayne and Theresa Ann. Veda was preceded in death by one grandson, Ricky Johnson. She is survived by Dal Johnson of Willow Springs; son, Dewayne Johnson and wife, Julie, and daughter, Theresa White, all of Willow Springs; mother, Thelma Wilder of Mountain View, MO; sisters, Wanda Orchard and husband, Clark, of Mountain View, Fonda Dean of West Plains, MO, and Donna Orchard and husband, Jimmy, of West Plains, MO; five grandchildren, Justin Johnson, Clayton, Johnson, Stacie Johnson, Kurt Bryan and Ethan Smith; and three great grandchildren, Alexis Bryan, Kamren Bryan, and Emma Smith. Veda attended rural schools in Arroll, Marshall, and Hutton Valley, Missouri. She was a member of Hand of Hope Mission Church in Willow Springs. Veda was an exceptional housekeeper and a great cook. She enjoyed fishing in her spare time. She loved her children and grandchildren.

 

ALMA LEA JOHNSTON RUSSELL - Born December 13, 1934 in Winona, MO to Manuel M. Johnston and Lona Bell (Hill) Johnston. Alma Lea passed away on December 5, 2009 at the age of 74 years. She was united in marriage to James Wesley Russell on August 17, 1949 in Mammoth Springs, AR; and to this union there were four children born Charlotte, Michael, Cris and Cindy. She is preceded in death by her parents Mack and Lona, husband James, five brothers; Wilson, Earl, Elmo, Jesse and Ralph; and one sister Velma Goff. Alma Lea is survived by a son James Michael Russell and wife Velma of Winona, MO; three daughters Charlotte Sue McDonald and husband Richard of Republic, MO, Margaret Cristelle Stanfill and husband Terry of Gentry, AR and Cynthia Lea Martin and husband Sean of Gentry AR; one brother Charles Johnson and wife Vickie of Protem, MO; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends. Alma Lea was a strong caring person who always put her family first. She is loved by all her family and friends and will be truly missed. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9th at Duncan Funeral Home, Winona, MO. There will be a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 10th at Mount Zion Cemetery, Winona, MO.

 

LONA BELLE HILL JOHNSTON - Born in 1899 in Winona Shannon Co MO, the daughter of Gen. James Price HILL and Amanda Missouri NEAL. She married Manuel M. JOHNSTON (1895-1957) and had a daughter, Glenna. She died in 1957 and is buried at the Mount Zion Cemetery in Winona. 

 

SYLVIA LEONA MAGNESS JOHNSTON - Born March 8, 1931 in Eminence, Missouri to Orbrey E. and Lillian (Hopkins) Magness. Sylvia passed away January 29, 2006 at Blessing Hospital, Quincy, Illinois at the age of 74 years. She was a Christian by faith. Funeral services were held on February 1, 2006 at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Winona, Missouri with Victor Elliott officiating. Pallbearers were Leslie Johnston, Bradley Johnston, Dustin Johnston, Darrin Blunkall, Jeff Alvey and Mike Russell. Honorary pallbearers were Gregory Atkins and Dustin Covington. Interment was at Mount Zion Cemetery in Winona, Missouri. Visitation was from 5-8 pm on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at the Chapel. Sylvia was married to William Earl Johnston, June 26, 1950 in Fulton County, Arkansas. They were married 38 years and of this union four children were born. Survivors are her children Sharon and husband Michael LaChance of Hannibal, Missouri, William (Gary) Johnston and wife Phyllis of Winona, Missouri, Patricia and her husband Roger Blunkall of Claremore, Oklahoma, and Debbie and husband Richard Alvey of Hannibal, Missouri. Also surviving are her two stepchildren, William (JR) Johnston and wife Diane, and Karen Fears all of Winona, Missouri. One sister Freda Mighton and husband Lee of White Rock, British Columbia Canada, and brother Oley Magness of Eminence, Missouri. Sylvia was blessed with 12 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends that remained a special part of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl, her parents Orbrey and Lillian Magness, brother Francis (Shorty) Magness, sisters Edna Magness, Mae Hartman, Fern Durkin and Mary Lou Magness. Her life was filled with many interests. She was gifted with the ability to play many musical instruments without formal training, write songs, books and sing. Music was one of the great passions of her life as well as reading. Other interests included drawing and quilting and she was a great cook. A homemaker most of her life, she enjoyed her home and flower very much. Her favorite season was spring, and she anxiously awaited the blooming of her many plants, flowers and trees in her yard. She was a friend to animals and birds and loved her little dog, J. J.  very much. Her strength was in her humor and wit, and the ability to make the best of whatever came her way. MAE N. BREEDEN JONAS - Born in Maries County, Mo. on June 22, 1892 the daughter of Isaac and Martha Ellis BREEDEN and passed away June 9, 1985 at the Ozark Nursing Center in West Plains, Mo. at the age of 92 years. She had been bedfast since she suffered a stroke in October, 1984. She was married to Lawrence COUNTS on December 24, 1911 at Eminence, Mo. and to this union four children were born. She later married Ed MCGILL and Charles M. JONAS, who are both deceased. May was preceded in death by her parents, Ike and Martha BREEDEN; her daughter, Ezella ELLERMAN; four brothers and three sisters. She is survived by two sons and one daughter, Johnnie and Wilma COUNTS of Eminence, Mo.; Donald and Maxine COUNTS of Springfield, Mo.; and Norma and Bill NICHOLSON of Eminence, Mo.; also, eight grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; and eleven great, great grandchildren. She was a member of the West Eminence Christian Church and attended regularly until her health became bad. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 11 at 10 a.m. in the Duncan Funeral Chapel at Eminence with Bro. Herald DEWEESE officiating. ARNOLD CLAY 'PUG' JONES - Son of Moses and Sarah (BOLDING) JONES, was born at West Eminence MO on July 17, 1908, and departed this life at the West Plains Memorial Hospital on May 9, 1988, at the age of 79 years, 9 months and 22 days, having spent his entire life in the vicinity of West Eminence. Pug, as he was affectionately called by his many friends, was noted for his friendliness and kindness to all. For several years he worked at “The Old Red Mill” at Alley Spring Park. He was in great demand by the tourists for his story telling and his great knowledge of his native Ozark Mountains. Together with his brother Frank he also operated an antique store on Hwy. 106 West. Several years ago he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized by Bro. John BALL, who at that time was minister of the West Eminence Christian Church. He was a faithful and loyal member as well as a tireless worker for his church, attending regularly as long as he was physically able to do so. Pug never married, but he was as a second father to his many nieces and nephews. This was especially true of Shirley, who made her home with her grandmother and her uncles, Frank and Pug. A very special relationship existed between Shirley and her Uncle Pug. Pug leaves to mourn his passing, three sisters: Louise HINES, Inez STEVENS, and Hazel CHILTON. Also one sister-in-law, Marie JONES, the widow of Harvey, Pug’s brother. Pug was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Frank and Harvey, as well as one infant sister, Fabrus. Although Pug will be sadly missed by a host of friends, as well as his relatives, our sorrow will be tempered by the knowledge that he is now in the care of the Christ that he loved and served. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 11, 1988, at 10 a.m. in the Duncan Funeral Chapel at Eminence with Rodney BROWN officiating. Interment was in New Eminence Cemetery under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home of Eminence. ARTIE FAY VERMILLION JONES 10 Feb 1946 - 22 Nov 2011

Artie Fay Vermillion Jones was born February 10, 1946 in Winona, Missouri. She passed away November 22, 2011 at her home in Licking, Missouri. Artie was born to Robert Lewis Vermillion and Iva Fay (Alcorn) Vermillion. She was the youngest of four children-Sanford, Bernice, Ann, and Artie. She accepted the Lord into her life at a young age. She was united in marriage for nearly 50 years to Jerry Duane Jones, July 3, 1962. To this union was born Terry Duane and the late Tammy Fay. Artie was preceded in death by her parents, her two beloved sisters,Bernice and Ann, and her loving daughter, Tammy Fay Myrick. Artie is survived by her husband Jerry, son Terry and wife Linda, three grandsons Lucas, Lance, and Lewis Jones, granddaughter Casey Rae Myrick, and two great grandchildren Brayden and Alissa Shinn all of Licking, Missouri, and brother Sanford Alcorn of Winona, Missouri. Artie worked and retired as a seamstress at Lees, Rawlings, and Tag Team. For many years she served as the union secretary. Throughout her career she made many friends, touching the lives of everyone she met. She enjoyed spending countless weekends camping at the river with her family and friends. There is no counting the many miles of river she floated with her husband Jerry. Artie had an unmatched love for her family. She enjoyed picking up her grandkids on the weekends and taking them to the river, and on trips with her and Jerry. Artie was proud of all her family and their accomplishments. She enjoyed watching them play sports, attending school activities, and was always willing to help when needed. Artie will be missed dearly by countless family, friends, and acquaintances. Pallbearers were Lucas, Lance, and Lewis Jones, Craig Osborne, Travis Alcorn, and Scott Robison. Honorary pallbearers were Sanford Alcorn, Jirl Jones, Eric Jones, Gary Brandon, Ronnie Moncrief, Donnie Weible, Brayden Shinn, and Lacey Horton.

 

 

BOBBY LEE JONES - Shannon County Democrat, July 1947 - Bobby Lee Jones, little son of Mr. & Mrs. Richard G. JONES of Fremont MO was born September 12, 1936 and departed this life July 19, 1947 at the age of 10 years, 10 months and 7 days. Funeral services were held at the Church of God at 2:30 pm on Monday, July 21, 1947 by Rev. ESSERMAN. He was laid to rest in Eveline Cemetery near Fremont. He leaves to mourn his passing his parents, Richard G. and Hazel (NORTON) JONES; two brothers, Ronnie and Rickey JONES of Fremont MO; his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. James F. NORTON of Winona MO and Mr. & Mrs. Zimri JONES of Fremont MO; also a host of uncles, aunts, and many other relatives and many friends.
