M. Lois Bacher, longtime resident of Ridgeway Apartments in Mountain View, died Tuesday, April 12, at the Mountain View Health Care facility. She was 88. A memorial is planned for a later time. Yarber Mortuary in Mountain View has been of great assistance. Mildren Lois Crosson was born in Geary, Oklahoma, to Earl L. and Mildren Tyree Crosson on April 5, l923. She attended Ponca City High School where she played the bass violin in the school orchestra. After graduating with the class of '41, she married Rossie E. Bacher of Uncas, Oklahoma, on November 21, 1942, in the First Christian Church in Ponca City. This union produced us-her daughters Lynn and Kay. We were privileged to live in an area which is now part of the Ozark Scenic Riverways National Park. A part of her will always remain in that beautiful spot now known as Bacher's landing. She was a homemaker, working occasionally outside her home at Mountain View Elementary School and St. Francis Hospital. For a time, she did machine quilting in her home. She was a voracious reader and prodigious crocheter. Family and friends will remember her by the works of art disguised as baby blankets, doilies, and tablecloths which she generously distributed to all. We'll also remember her strong will, her sometimes sharp tongue, and her lively interest in politics and world events.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rossie; her brothers Lex and his wife Annys, Loren, Larry, Don and his sweet Betty.  Her daughters Lynn Thompson and husband Dale of Bellvue, Missouri, and Kay Lawson and husband Barry of Winona, Missouri; her brother Leon and his wife Mary of Arcadia, OK; and grandchildren Mark (Sherrie) Thompson, Peace Valley; Amanda Lawson, Florida; Kristopher Lawson, Anchorage, Alaska; and lots of nieces and nephews survive her.  Her life was long and happy. Though she suffered from cancer in her early 50's, she survived and thrived for over thirty years. She enjoyed her family, her friends and her independence until just a few weeks before her death. Her final days were eased by the loving staff at Mountain View Health Center and by caregivers of Hospice Compasses. Catherine Adams Bailey passed from this life to the unknown at 3:30 last Friday morning, Dec. 3. Catherine Adams Bailey was born near Bradfordsville KY Oct. 24, 1820, and therefore was 77 years, 1 month and 10 days old at her death. She professed faith in Christ at the age of 16 and has lived a devoted Christian life up to her death. Miss Adams was united in marriage to Richard M. Bailey Feb. 12, 1840. She was the mother of twelve children, four of whom preceded her to the brighter land many years ago. David Lindell ‘Beetle’ Bailey was born Nov. 13, 1953, at Rolla, Mo., the son of Leonard Bailey and Della (Nash) Bailey. He passed April 9, 2012, at his home in Birch Tree, Mo., at the age of 58 years. Beetle was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Della Bailey; two brothers, Gene Bailey and Jim Bailey; and many friends. He is survived by three sons, Doug Bailey of Springfield, Mo., David Eugene Bailey of West Plains, Mo., and William Bailey of Tuscan, Ariz.; one daughter Denise Bailey and significant other Ray of Republic, Mo.; three sisters Donna Whittman of Key Largo, Fla., Sharon Deiboro of Rolla, Mo., and Debra Midiri of St. Louis, Mo.; three grandchildren Keisha Marie Wilson, Tyler Lee Wilson and Gage Ryan Bailey; and a host of other family and friends. Beetle enjoyed going to auctions. He loved being outdoors fishing and going to the river. Most of all Beetle enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Paul David Bailey, a life long resident of Willow Springs unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at the Ozark Medical Center in West Plains. Born to Lena Wake and David Bailey June 17, 1983, in Springfield, Mo., he was 25 years old. David grew up in Willow Springs and attended the local schools and was a graduate of Willow Springs High School. He worked for UPS as a desk clerk and also on the loading dock. He was described as a hard worker who absolutely loved his job. David had many enjoyments in his life; however, he especially enjoyed all kinds of sports and riding his motorcycle. But what gave him the greatest enjoyment was and spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. David was preceded in death by his grandparents Doris and Estel Wake, cousins Danny Collins and Brian Cash Collins, and his uncle Donald Collins. He is survived by his mother Lena Wake of Willow Springs; his sister, Aimee Cunningham and her husband Jonathan and their children Brady and Chloe also of Willow Springs. He is further survived by his father, David Bailey of Pitkin, La., and brother Heath, also of Pitkin, La. He also leaves behind his aunts Bonnie Cain of Alpine, Texas, and Juanita Collins of Willow Springs, as well as numerous cousins in both Missouri and Texas and many, many friends. Funeral services for David will be held Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Westside Family Life Center, located at 1274 County Road in Willow Springs. A family night and visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Willow Funeral Home, located at 106 E. Third Street in Willow Springs. Della Cornelia Nash Bailey, born June 7, 1911 at Eminence, MO the daughter of George Washington Nash and Mary Ellen (Dixon) Nash. She passed away May 10, 2008 at Rolla, MO at the age of 96 years.  She was united in marriage to Leonard E. Bailey on December 24, 1924 at Eminence, MO and to this union six children were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leonard; two sons Earl Gene Bailey and James Odell Bailey; five brothers Clifford, Jasper, Harley, William, and Hurley; and two sisters Nora and Vytrolith. She is survived by one son David Lindell Bailey of Birch Tree, MO; three daughters Donna Wittman of Key Largo, FL; Sharon DeIbero of Rolla, MO; and Debra Midiri and husband Tony of Wright City, MO; 17 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends. Della's first love was family & friends. Her second was writing journals on current events, containing information about the latest wars, presidential elections, space flights and world disasters. She also kept journals on her many trips and  adventures that she began later in life. Della's life was full raising her family until she was 50. She then went to work for Dr. Penton Wilson in Eminence as his medical assistant. She was instrumental in building and developing the Fellowship Tabernacle Church in West Eminence, and was superintendent for many years. She was a member of the South Central Assemblies of God Organization. As she approached her late 60s & early 70s, she began a self-renewal. She studied art & left some beautiful paintings for the enjoyment of her family. She studied and received her GED and Driver's license, began traveling and even pierced her ears!  She loved life, and life loved her. She found something of interest and enjoyment in each day. She has left each of us with a fond memory of a remarkable and loving lady. Della's greatest love is Jesus, with whom she has chosen to spend the rest of eternity, and in him, can enjoy all things forever. God Speed... THE TOMB - Mrs. Kate Bailey - Again has grim and relentless Death entered our midst and plucked from Eminence society one of its choicest ornaments and a happy family their dearest treasure. At half-past ten p.m. of October 25, 1884, Mrs. Kate Bailey, consort of Dr. S. M. Bailey of this place, departed this life, age 31 years and 20 days. On May 8, 1872, the subject of this notice was married to the gentleman who now mourns her loss, at Troy, Lincoln Co., Mo.  A few months since the family arrived here from Saverton, Lincoln Co., Mo., and took up their abode in Eminence.  Mrs. Bailey left a husband and two interesting little girls besides many other relatives, and a host of friends to lament her demise.  Her sufferings upon the sick-bed were borne with the greatest fortitude.  Mrs. Bailey was a charming member of Eminence society, intelligent, and rich in all the qualities which go to make a noble and refined woman. It can truly be said the world held for her no enemy. To the grief stricken family the people of this community tender their heartfelt sympathy. Tears were shed and hearts were broken, when Jeffrey Alan Baker passed on in his home surrounded by his family, July 9 from lung cancer. He was taken from us too soon, at the age of 39. Jeff loved his wife Lori and was there for her every need. He was a romantic, took care of her when she was sick and when he got sick still fixed her breakfast in bed. They just celebrated 10 years of marriage and had recently bought a new home in Cabool, MO. Parenting Alaina became their joy. 'The Best Dad in the World' was written on several of his t-shirts; he wore them proudly. Jeff loved his daughter Alaina 'to infinity'. Their relationship was fun, and they could often be heard howling at the moon together. He loved music, going to concerts and was always happy to sit down to a good game of cards. He was a truck driver, but by nature he was a gadget man. His whole life he kept himself surrounded by wires, screws, bolts and things you’ve never seen...but if this was put with that, your TV would look better, your music would come alive and whatever your problem was...was now fixed. He was the very best brother a sister could ever have. Bonded by music and heart to Jann. Grandma always said, 'Jill & Jeff? when one of them got hurt, the other one cried harder.' He was a big brother to Angie and they kept each other on their toes. He was a protector; he was gentle; he was kind and had the most peaceful loving eyes. There was no hurt or problem that holding his big strong hands could not fix. To say he will be missed does not begin to touch how we feel today. There are no words. Leland Darel Baker, son of Edgar M. Baker and Mary Loretta (Morrison) Baker was born March 27, 1929 at Gladden, Shannon County, MO. His grandparents were G. Edward Morrison and Laura (Redwine) Morrison and William H. Baker and Eda Cordelia (Adams) Baker. Darel was taken ill suddenly on November 26, 2010 at his home on County Rd. 5460 Rolla, MO and passed away at University Medical Center, Columbia, MO. On June 12, 1954 he was married to Melba Allen of Summersville, MO at Shannondale Community Church by the Rev. Vincent W. Bucher. He and Melba made their home at Columbia, MO where Darel was a Junior at University of Missouri School of Agriculture. In 1956, they moved to Summersville, MO where Darel began teaching Vocational Agriculture and Forestry Management. In 1958, he joined the staff of University of Missouri Extension Service at Houston, MO, Texas County. For the ensuing nine years, he was Asst. Director and Balanced Farming Agent at Houston. In 1965 until 1970, he became Director of Extension Service at Potosi, MO, Washington Co. In 1970, he resigned his position at Potosi to return to Houston, where he taught Junior High Math for Houston Schools. In 1973, after removal of a Cerebellar brain tumor, Darel spent the next years in rehabilitation at their farm in Raymondville, MO. In 1980, he returned to teaching Veteran's night classes and high school Agriculture and Forestry classes at Houston High School. He had to take early retirement in 1982, and then built a greenhouse and shop, where he did small engine repairs. He raised sheep for training his Border Collies to learn herding techniques. In 1999, he moved to the present home at Rolla, MO where he happily continued raising his beloved Border Collies, sharing gardening tips and competition with his next door neighbor, Marie Huffman, and Purple Martin information with neighbor, Keith Davis. Neighbor Mike Bryant welcomed Darel to the neighborhood when he anonymously graded the driveway after a big snowstorm the next year after moving to 5460. Darel and Gene Watson managed the hay harvesting each year without too much arguing. Darel was overjoyed to find that another neighbor, Gale Huffman provided him with his second-most loved hobby, attending auctions, where he and his friend, Bob North looked for bargains. Neighbor Pat Emott hurried over one cold night to rescue Darel when one of his projects left him imprisoned among big hay bales in the barn. In remembering each of these good friends, Darel would always say, "If I had looked all over Phelps County, I couldn't have found better friends and neighbors. We have been so blessed." Darel is survived by his wife, Melba of the home; his son Steven and wife, Denice, of Houston, TX; daughter, Diana Howerton and husband, Chris, of Rolla; grandchildren Sara Miller, Nick and Clay Howerton, Shannon, Shauna, and Derek Baker, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded by brothers, Edward and Ervin, and sister, Ella Mae Clark. He is survived by brother, James "Buck" Baker, Dallas, TX and sisters, Jimmalee Major and husband, Jim, and Mary Lou Belsass and husband, Bob, of Ellensburg, Washington. Visitation for family and friends was held on Sunday, November 28, 2010 from 3 to 5 PM at James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla, Missouri. Eula Maude Gardner Bales, born November 18, 1909, at Winona, Missouri, the daughter of Silas Campbell Gardner and Rosa Belle Rich. She departed this life March 8, 1994, at her home in Camdenton, Missouri, at the age of 84 years. She was united in marriage to Donald Bryan Bales on December 14, 1927, at Jefferson City, Missouri.  To this union three children were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Don in 1961; two brothers, Compton and Archer Gardner; and three sisters, Margaret Bockman, Adeline Hickman and Rose Marie Burrows. She is survived by one son, Jay G. Bales of Mansfield, Ohio; two daughters, Mary Margaret Mosley of Pasadena, TX; and Estella 'Teddie' Larsen of Laramie, WY; four sisters, Irene Bolin of Eugene, OR; May Margaret Palmer of Overland Park, KS; Annabelle Martens of Davenport, Iowa; and Katheryn Fisher of Springfield, MO; fourteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Our mother, always a lady, instilled in we three children, qualities that we will always be grateful to her for: those of integrity, honesty and caring for others.  She was a loving wife and mother and a constant friend to all who knew her.  The words of the hymn, 'God be with you till we meet again,' has taken on a new meaning to her children as we lay her to rest. Her life as a Christian permitted her to share the love of her Lord with her family and friends.  The Lord blessed Maude with a sense of humor and a kind and gentle spirit, which she demonstrated in her daily life.  She studied the Word daily and had resource material which enabled her to grow in her spiritual life. She was a gifted writer and teacher, and her personal column has appeared in newspapers.  Maude's wisdom was far beyond her years and was always available.  Visits in her home provided a lifetime of memories. Goldie Dosha Lathrop Ball, age 92, passed away February 12, 2006 at Truman Lake Care Center, Kansas City, Missouri. Goldie was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Ball in 1988, her parents Robert and Peggy Lathrop and all 9 of her siblings. Goldie is survived by her daughter Peggy Marie Ginger and son-in-law William Ginger of Kansas City, Missouri, and one granddaughter Maria Dee Ginger-Wiley and husband Patrick of Kansas City, Missouri. Goldie was born September 20, 1913 at Willow Springs, Missouri and lived there until she married Hubert Ball in 1933, to this union one child was born, Peggy Marie. Hubert was a farmer and the couple moved to his dad's farm south of Willow Springs, Missouri and 3 years later purchased a small farm north of Birch Tree, Missouri. Goldie loved farm life and spent 23 years working hard doing farm chores and homemaking without any modern conveniences. In 1949 Hubert became a school bus driver and in 1956 the family moved to the town of Birch Tree, Missouri where Goldie had spent 20 years as a child care provider in her home. She also helped Hubert by cleaning school buses. Goldie loved to study the bible and discuss it with others. One very special event in her life was in 1945 when she was baptized as on of Jehovah's Witnesses. She was a faithful member of the Birch Tree, Missouri congregation for 55 years and a member of the Lee's Summit, Missouri congregation for 5 years. She dearly loved all the members of these two congregations and they returned that love in many kind and caring ways. A very special thank you to the Staff Unit 2 North, Truman Lake Care Center and the Kansas City, Missouri Hospice. She requested no funeral or visitation. Donald Lee 'Pee Wee' Ballance was born in Toledo, Oregon, to Hubert and Mary Balance on October 5, 1950. Pee Wee passed away on April 29, 2017 at the age of 66. He was raised in Winona, Missouri. He married Linda Kay Bland at Eminence in 1969. He then moved to Fordyce, Arkansas, where he began working at D.J. Barnes Saw Mill, retiring in 2010. He was preceded in death by his father Hubert Ballance; brother Amos Eugene Ballance; and one grandson Scotty Ballance. He is survived by his mother Mary Ballance; wife Linda Ballance; two daughters Bonnie Ballance and husband Huey Vestal and Cindy Ballance both of Fordyce, Arkansas; one son Robert Ballance of Fordyce, Arkansas; three brothers Dean Ballance and wife Ouida of Leola, Arkansas, Junior Ballance and wife Nita of Fordyce, Arkansas, and Larry Ballance and wife Cindy of Leola, Arkansas; one sister Patricia Denton of Winona, Missouri; four granddaughters Karen Ballance, Tiffany Cleaves and husband Darius, Misty McMillan and husband Jordan, and BrieAnn Kimbrough and Trent Coston; one grandson Cody Ballance; two great granddaughters Kinley Cleaves and Savannah McMillan all of Fordyce, Arkansas; many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family members. Hubert Eugene Ballance, born December 21, 1927 in Oregon County, Mo. to George Clark and Nellie Mae Tartar Ballance and departed this life March 1, 2004 at Pine Bluff, Ark. at the age of 76 years, two months and eight days. He married Mary E. Holloway, of Eminence, on August 14, 1948 and to this union six children were born. He is preceded in death by his parents Clark and Nellie Ballance; one son, Eugene; one brother, Roy; and one grandson, Keith Allen. Hubert is survived by his wife Mary Ballance of Fordyce, Ark.; four sons, Dan and Ouida Ballance of Leola, Ark., Donald and Linda Ballance of Fordyce, Ark., Junior and Nita Ballance of Fordyce, Ark. and Larry and Cindy Ballance of Leola, Ark.; one daughter, Patricia Denton of Houston, Mo.; one brother, Leonard Ballance of Falls City, Oregon.; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 5 at Duncan Funeral Chapel in Winona with Archie Taylor and David Walker officiating. Gary Thoris Baltz, of Springfield, MO, was born on August 1, 1935 at Eminence, to Thoris Eckbert Baltz & Madeline Faye Ward. Gary retired in 2004 after a long and successful career as co-owner of American Business Systems. Gary was an avid outdoorsman, spending his time fishing the many Ozarks streams and lakes he loved. He was a world traveler and enjoyed the history and cultures of the states and countries he visited. Gary was a Christian and long time member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Springfield. Gary was married 28 years to the love of his life, Natalie, and between them share six children as well as nine grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Natalie of the home in Springfield; his sister Anis and her husband, Larry Gunner of Battlefield; his sons, G. Rob and Pat Baltz of Mount Airy, Maryland, and Bryan and Becky Baltz of Springfield, Missouri; daughter Michelle Baltz of Springfield; step-son Ancel Buff of Rogersville, Dennis and Leigh Daniels of Ozark, and Sheri and Richard Buis of Springfield; grandchildren, Corey, Bryan, Maggie, Nick and Patrick Baltz, Jennifer Canfield and Ryan Avery, and Timothy and Karlee Buff; and many friends and classmates in Eminence, Missouri. The family would like to thank the staff of 'The Manor at Elfindale' for their kind, thoughtful, and compassionate care as well as his caregivers from Hospice Compassus. Just David Baltz was born Aug. 5, 1921, in Ink MO, the son of Dr. Thomas Albert and Sarah Paralee Deatherage Baltz. He departed this life on May 2, 2009, at his home in Pomona MO, at the age of 87 years. J.D. was united in marriage to Mamie Maudeline Pummill on Dec. 21, 1943, in University City MO, and to this union, two children were born. He received a bachelor of science degree from Southwest Missouri State University and then continued his education at University of Missouri, earning his master of science degree. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Southern Philippines, earning the rank of sergeant. J.D. was employed by many area schools as teacher, principal and counselor. He was ranked as #3 child psychiatrist in the state of Missouri. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 607 in Eminence MO, and held his pilot license. He was baptized at Delaware Baptist Church, Delaware MO, and was a member of Abundant Life Bible Church in West Plains. He was a former owner of Camp Zoe Youth Summer Camp in Round Spring MO He enjoyed model trains and raising exotic fish. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maudeline; brothers Merle, Thoris, Varus, Burton, Merton and Eugene; and sisters Geraldine Decker, Maureen Baltz, Juana McClure and Omeleta Eastman. Survivors include a son, Jon David Baltz and fiancée, Cindi, of West Plains MO; daughter Jenifer Diane Weaver and husband, Kenneth, of Pomona MO; grandchildren, Jeremy George and fiancée’, Brittany Higgs, Pomona MO, Josh George and fiancée, Brandi Corshia and daughter, Haley, Pomona MO, Destiny and David Weaver, Pomona MO, Tiffany and Latoya Olivera, West Plains; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lawrence Lovell 'Larry' Barkley - Born 18 Aug 1933 at Winona Shannon Co MO; passed away 09 Apr 2010 at West Plains Howell Co MO. He was the son of John William Barkley and Esther Olive Harrod. Larry served in the US Army in the early 1950s. He married Marguerite Jo Scoville 01 Jan 1957 at Birch Tree Shannon Co MO and they were blessed with four children: Karen, Dennis, Mark and Angela. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Esther Barkley, sister Lillian, brothers Billy and Don and granddaughter Michaela Diane Powell. Larry is survived by his wife, Marguerite, of Birch Tree, and children Karen Powell, Dennis and Mark Barkley, and Angela Clevenger. Also surviving grandchildren, Brandon Powell, Brittany Leesman, Julie Good, and Reyna Powell; Melanie Phelps, Sarah Barkley, Amanda Barkley and Kelsey Johnson; sisters Norine Norris, Jenny Prewett and Shannon Goldberg, and brother Max Barkley, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Lawrence L. Barkley, Age 76, of Birch Tree passed away on Friday, April 9 in West Plains. Funeral services of Lawrence L. Barkley will be Tuesday, April 13 at 2 p.m.  at the Funeral Chapel in Birch Tree with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home in Birch Tree. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.  Monday, April 12 at Duncan Funeral Chapel in Birch Tree.

Lillie Louanna Barkley, daughter of John and Nora (HARDER) BARKLEY and granddaughter of Judge Thomas HARDER was born Apr 18, 1896. She departed this life in Taft, CA Dec 12, 1918, age 22 yrs 8 months and 10 days. She professed religion at the age of 16 yrs and united with the Christian Church. Lillie was a young lady of unusual merit. Kind, thoughtful, unselfish, with a strong ambition to fill well a large sphere in life. Only a short time before she was stricken with influenza, which developed into pneumonia, she wrote her friends of her success in her work and of her plans for a happy future. She was planning for a happy home for herself and her loved ones. But Gods plan was, we trust, better a home where all may meet and rejoice, no sorrow, no sickness, no death. Services were conducted by Rev. A. R. McClellan at the Christian Church on Sat Jan 4 in the presence of a large company of friends and loved ones, after which the body was buried by the side of her mother and father in the new cemetery. THE CURRENT WAVE, 17 Jan 1919: Miss Lillie BARKLEY who went to California a few months since, died first of the week with pneumonia that developed from a dreadful epidemic of influenza that has numbered its victims by the thousands. The remains were returned to the home grounds for burial by the side of her mother at the new cemetery. Lillie is buried in the Pine Lawn Cemetery at Winona. Her grave is unmarked.

Lois Oneda Campbell Downs Barkley was born June 3, 1929, at Dolph Craig’s sawmill camp near Birch Tree on the Oregon County line, where she was delivered by Aunt Rachel Craig. She was the youngest daughter of Ava Viola Norris & Lee Ander Campbell. Lois passed away on April 11, 2017, at Mountain View, Missouri. She spent her early childhood in the Rocky community, where she attended school at the Reed and Horner one-room schoolhouses, completing the 8th grade. At the age of 14 she moved to St Louis and began work in a factory. Later she returned to Shannon County where she met William E. ‘Bill’ Downs at Eminence while working at the Rayfield Hotel, and they were married at Eminence, Missouri. A son, Billy Joe Downs, was born to this union. She later married Don Barkley on Oct. 23, 1948 at Salem, Arkansas. Don & Lois's children are Donita, Johnny, Terry & Gary. Lois worked at Paramount Manufacturing for 18 years. She owned and operated The Dinner Bell Cafe' in the early 1960s before establishing a furniture upholstery shop in partnership with Beulah Norris. She continued in this line of work until she was no longer able. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Ava, former husbands, Bill Downs and Don Barkley, her son, Billy Joe, sister Anna Lee Weaver, brother Tom Campbell, half-brothers Wayne and Doris Tucker, grandsons Heath Herbst, Adam Barkley, and Jay Simpson; nephew Bobby Weaver, and great-grandson Hunter Frost, as well as dear friends Sue Hollis, Lois Weaver and Bonnie Rightnowar. She is survived by her children, Donita Barkley, Johnny Barkley and wife Vicki, and Gary Barkley and wife Shirley, all of Winona, and Terry Barkley and wife Mary Lou, of Rolla. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren: Donnie Downs, Jessica Atkins, Brian Downs, Amanda Barkley, Wes Herbst, Jared Barkley, Andrew Herbst, April Hayes, Michelle Bockman, and Randy Downs; step grandsons Thomas Herbst, Michael Herbst and Chris Brawley; step granddaughters Amy Nichols and Angel Stahlman; eleven great grandchildren, several step grandchildren; three half sisters, June Roberts, Sharon Davis and Judy Walker, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Especially beloved to Lois were her nieces Betty Needels and Barbara Conway, who never failed in their devotion and caregiving. Interment at Horner Cemetery.

Nora Ellen Harder Barkley Barnett - Wife of R. L. Barnett and daughter of Judge Harder, yielded up her life on the 20th inst., and has gone to join the innumerable host beyond the tomb. Deceased was born in Shannon County Nov. 6, 1874, and her age at the time of passing to the better world was 34 years, 7 months and 14 days. At an early age she was joined in wedlock to Mr. John Barclay, who preceded her to the spirit world some years since. In time she married again. This time Robt. L. Barnett, whose wife she was at the time of her death. In 1893, she united with the Christian Church, lived a consistent life and held faithful to the last. For several years and the time of her death she was sorely afflicted with lung trouble, and her death was not a surprise to anyone, although she died suddenly. On the morning of the Winona picnic, she came in with her parents and was on the ground the better part of the day, and in the afternoon grew suddenly worse and passed into eternity almost in the twinkling of an eye. Mrs. Barnett was an estimable lady, kind, social, affectionate and affable. Her course through life made her many friends and added to this a pure Christian character, eminently fitted her for a life of happiness beyond the grave. It is true she died young; at an age when life seems bright and anticipation runs high, but maybe for all that it is best. Better to enter into the duties of a higher life while in youth than to feebly drag out a life of old age here. To mourn her loss, she leaves a father, mother, sisters and brothers, a husband and four children. On Sunday her remains were interred in the family burial ground with fitting ceremonies amid a large gathering of friends and relatives. In addition to the above, Judge Harder sent the following: On the day of the picnic, I took my daughter up to Mr. Rich's for rest and dinner; a distance of three hundred yards from the grounds. In the afternoon when we got in the buggy to return, the straps had not been fastened or came loose and the buggy ran against the team and the team ran away breaking the dash board, but soon stopped. Doubtless the exertion in trying to hold her seat in the buggy caused the trouble, but she said she did not know she was hurt. She began coughing and soon the blood gushed from her mouth and nose. She took those near her by the hand and said, 'goodbye,' and passed over to the other side. Funeral services conducted by Bros. Hahn and Despain, and the remains were turned over to the relatives for interment. She was laid to rest in the new cemetery [Pine Lawn Cemetery ] at Winona. The Current Wave, June 25, 1908.

Pvt. 2nd Class Nolan Anatone Barkley, Jr., was born March 17, 1979 to Nolan Anatone ‘Tony’ Barkley Sr. and Debbie (Barrett) Barkley at Poplar Bluff, Butler County, Missouri. He was the grandson of Max and Lola (Fansler) Barkley, Jim and Joyce (O’Dell) Barrett, and the great grandson of Gene and Genie (Counts) O’Dell, Glen Barrett, and J. W. and Esther (Harrod) Barkley. He departed this life on Dec. 15, 2001, at the age of 22 years. Although Nolan was his birth name, he was still called 'T.J.' by friends and family. Nolan was baptized at age 11 at a church camp in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He reaffirmed his faith at the Munsell Church in Winona. Nolan attended Junior High School in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, where he was a member of football, basketball and baseball teams. He then attended high school in Winona, Missouri until 1995, thus receiving his GED diploma in the spring of 1996. While in high school he was a member of the basketball team, W.I.L.D., Hi-Step, band, and the Beta Club, and was a class officer. Upon completion of his GED he attended the Current River College at the Winona campus. On September 3, 1995 , T. J. married Miranda Roberts at the Christian Church in Winona, and to this union four beautiful children were born, Bethanny Hope, Brey Anatone, Erin Blake, and Isaac James. Nolan was preceded in death by his son Brey, great grandparents J. W. and Esther Barkley, and Glen Barrett. He is survived by his wife Miranda, his children Bethany, Erin and Isaac, his father Tony and wife Gina Barkley, his sisters Andrea and Emily Barkley, all of Winona, his mother Debbie Barrett and sister Laura Barkley of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, his grandparents Max and Lola Barkley , Jim and Joyce Barrett, and great grandparents Gene and Genie O’Dell of Winona, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Nolan’s hobbies included fishing hunting and camping with his family. Nolan had a zeal for life. He loved people, especially children, not only raising his own but volunteering as well, and he was a good daddy. He was a Little League baseball coach for Winona teams during the summer. While living in Winona, Nolan worked at Smith Flooring and helped his Grandpa Max at Public auctions and benefits as an auctioneer. Though he had no official training as an auctioneer it came naturally. Nolan will always be remembered for his smile, his laugh, his love for his children and wife, and of being a loving husband, son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend.

Funeral services for Pvt. 2nd Class Nolan Anatone Barkley Jr., 22, Winona, were 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at Winona Christian Church under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home of Winona. Mr. Barkley died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at Lawton, Okla. Burial was in Mount Zion Cemetery under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home. He was buried beside his son Brey.

Anna 'Mae' Mayberry Barnes was born March 21, 1898 at Low Wassie, Missouri, the daughter of Emma 'Lee' Mayberry (Birlew). She departed this life September 24, 1898 at Birch Tree, Missouri, at the age of 91. Mae was united in marriage to Auda Harold Barnes on Dec. 24, 1916, at Winona, Missouri, and to this union six children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband Auda, and five children: Dorothy, Clarice, Olin, Jewel and Myrll, and two great-grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, Opal Norton, of Winona; three sisters, Mattie Cadwalender of Arnold, Missouri; Golda Gretzmacher of St . Louis, Missouri, and Elgia Winters, of Winona; four grandchildren: Sharon Sperry of San Pedro, California; Eva Slager of Collinsville, Illinois; Steve Campbell of Winona, and Jerome Barnes of Cairo, Georgia. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren. Mae accepted Christ as her savior during the early years of her marriage. She talked of Him often and always kept her Bible near. She would comfort herself by singing hymns when she thought she was alone, and always had scripture ot offer when someone else needed comforting. Mae loved all of God's gifts, especially little children, animals and flowers. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but always in the hearts of those who loved her. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 27, 1989, at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Winona with Rev. Golden Hampton officiating. Burial was at Mount Zion Cemetery under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home of Winona.

Emeral Barnes was born January 10, 1910 near Winona, Mo., the youngest of 12 children and the son of William and Lura Copeland Barnes, and departed this life October 9, 1986 at Doctor's Hospital, Poplar Bluff, Mo., at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 29 days. Emeral spent most of his life in and around Winona. He loved the outdoors and spent most of his leisure time hunting and fishing. However, his most enjoyable times were the ones spent with his grandchildren. They were his 'pride and joy'. He was proud to be called their 'pop or poppy'. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Shirley Katherine Burge, whom he married on September 20, 1943; two sons, William Arthur of Van Buren, Mo.; Jimmy Earl of Nixa, Mo.; three daughters, Mary Ellen Haney of Winona, Mo.; Jeanne Ray Burk of St. Joe, Ark.; and from his first marriage, Doris Lee Blair of Maryville, Tennessee; 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, five sisters, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and his first wife, Eileen Prewitt. Graveside services were held Saturday, October 11 at 4 pm was at Mount Zion Cemetery Winona, Mo. with James Eskew officiating. Services were under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home, Alton, Mo. Emeral dedicated his soul to God on September 1, 1986 at his home in Winona. Our loss is Heaven's gain. Though our days are emptier, memories are something time cannot erase. We will always hold our 'pop' dear to our hearts.

Emma Jean Martin Barnes - Born July 9, 1933 in Winona, Missouri to Tom and Celestia Blunkall Martin and departed this life on September 28, 1985 at Mountain View, Mo. at the age of 52 years, 1 month and 28 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Ernest Martin. She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Barnes of the home in Birch Tree; two sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Kaye Brewer of Winona, Mo.; and Doug and Marla Brewer of Birch Tree, Mo.; five grandchildren, Willie, Wayne and Windy Brewer of Winona; Bobby and Lisa Brewer of Birch Tree; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Erman and Dorothy Martin, and Pepper and Mona Lou Martin, all of Winona; two nephews, Keith and Randy Martin of Winona; two aunts, Alma Lovins of Winona; and Lola Martin of Hayton, Ill.; and a host of other relatives. Emma Jean was united in marriage to Junior Brewer of Birch Tree and to this union two sons were born, Eugene and Doug Brewer. She lived in Winona a number of years and worked at Paramount Cap Factory, then was united in marriage to Lloyd Barnes of Winona on May 22, 1983. She attended Winona High School and was a member of The First Baptist Church of Winona. She was a dear friend to all who knew and loved her, and will be sadly missed. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 1 p.m. in the Duncan Funeral Chapel at Winona with Rev. Dennis Norwood officiating. Burial was  at Mount Zion Cemetery under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home of Winona.

James Leslie Barnes was born Nov. 24, 1922, at Cairo, Ill., the son of Brady Everett Barnes and Ida Mae Childers Barnes. He passed away Aug. 2, 2008, at Birch Tree, Mo., at the age of 85 years. He was united in marriage to Violet LaBoube on March 27, 1943, at Overland, Mo. He was later united in marriage to Eloise J. Spurgeon on Dec. 7, 1951, at St. Charles, Mo., and to this union, one daughter was born. He was preceded in death by his parents Brady Everett and Ida Mae Barnes; one sister Mary Barnes Ochs; and one stepson Donald Goforth. He is survived by three daughters, Juritta Thoele of Arnold, Mo., Sandy Novak of Sarasota, Fla., and Rochelle Poyner and husband Johnny of McGee, Ark.; one son, Steve Wuesting and wife Jenny of New Florence, Mo.; four grandchildren, Shannon Thoele, Ashley Lorenz, Kimberly Burgess and husband Christopher, and Laura Hummel; and two great-grandchildren, Gage Hummel and Jordan Hummel. Bo lived in the St. Louis area until he met and married Eloise. He worked at Carter Carburetor in St. Louis from 1940 until 1950. Bo and Eloise moved to Eminence, Mo., after their marriage. They enjoyed traveling together from 1951 until 1958, where Bo and Eloise would perform shows with their trained mule, horse and dogs. Bo also performed roping and as a clown during that time, a job which he enjoyed and always recalled fond memories. Bo and Eloise relocated to Phoenix, Ariz., and lived there several years, where Bo worked on highway and road construction. He worked his way up to a foreman and later became the superintendent. In 1962, Bo and Eloise moved back to Eminence, where Bo raised hogs on their family farm for many years until his health didn’t permit. Bo was very much an outdoors person. He loved to fish and hunt, and until later years, Bo would go out on the river every day he could in the summer. Bo had a great sense of humor and was always telling jokes. Bo was a member of the World Wide Church of God in Poplar Bluff, Mo., where he attended services until his health didn’t permit. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Eminence, Mo. Interment was in New Eminence Cemetery under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home of Eminence, Mo.

Leona B. Cooper was born June 8, 1910 at Flat Rock in Shannon County, Missouri, the daughter of John and Isabell Wells Cooper. She passed away August 11, 1997 at St John's Regional Health Center in Springfield, MO at the age of 87 years. She was united in marriage on October 6, 1934 in West Plains, MO to Richard Bland Barnes. Richard preceded her in death in August 6, 1986. Leona is also preceded in death by her parents, one son, one grandson, three brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by two sons, Gary and his wife Linda, and Jack and his wife Judy Barnes, both of Birch Tree, MO; two stepsons, Verlon Barnes and his wife Claire of Mountain View, MO; Lester Barnes and his wife Betty of LaPorte, CO; one daughter Betty Jo Grip of Athens, GA and one step-daughter, Nettie Grace Gill of Cozad, NE; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, and several step grandchildren. Leona will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Thursday, August 14, 1997 at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Birch Tree with Rev. Calvin Jones Officiating. Interment was in the Barnes Cemetery under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home of Birch Tree.

Minnie Hannah Johnston was born Sep. 20, 1901 in the Van community of Shannon County, Missouri, the daughter of Hiram and Fannie Wollry Johnston. Minnie passed away Thursday June 25, 1992 at the Shirkey Leisure Acres Nursing Home in Richmond where she had made her home the past three years. On March 10, 1922 Minnie was united in marriage to Toney Arvil Barnes and too this union was born six children. Minnie is survived by one son: William Martin Barnes of Stotesburg, Mo. Two daughters: Mrs. Beulah Pulliam of Rayville, Mo. and Mrs. Lois Vaugh of Hartford, Kansas. Sixteen grandchildren and a host of great and great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, three sons: Marvin Ray, Melvin Lowell, and Floyd Lee Barnes. She was also preceded in death by fifteen brothers and sisters. It was the family's desire that the funeral services for Minnie be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the graveside at Mount Zion Cemetery, Winona, Mo. Naomi Barnes was born Nov. 19, 1907, and passed away at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Barnes, on the afternoon of Jul. 2, 1930. She died from the effects of tuberculosis, developing from a severe cold taken in the early spring of 1929, at which time she became hoarse and finally lost her speech. During the summer of 1929 she received medical treatment in Springfield while working there. In November of 1929 she came home for a weeks visit and was advised by physicians to remain. She was confined to her bed from that time until the end. Miss Naomi was converted to the Christian faith about three years ago, and remained a believer until death claimed her life. During her last hour she called the members of her family around her bed and requested that they pray, and with her quiet faith in God, passed from this life. Those remaining to mourn her departure are her mother and father, three sisters and five brothers, together with many other relatives and friends. Patrick L. Barnes, the son of Oscar F. and Betty J. (Eyeman) Barnes, was born March 4, 1955 at Ulysses, Kansas. He passed away at the home of his sister-in-law, Phyllis Barnes, Tuesday evening, July 26, 2011 at 7:07 p.m. making his age 56 years, 4 months, and 22 days. He has two daughters, Crystal and Amber, and one stepson, KC. He also had one stillborn daughter. Patrick worked as a lineman for Pioneer Electric for many years. He is survived by his step-dad, Richard Campbell; three step-brothers, Ronnie of Johnson, KS, Tony, of Colorado, and Mike of Houston, TX; children, Crystal Barnes of Johnson, Kansas; Amber Leblanc of Johnson, Kansas; and stepson, KC McCabe of Oklahoma; two brothers, Kenny Barnes of Summersville, Missouri and Garry Barnes of Ulysses, Kansas; two sisters, Pam Reigel of Elk Creek, Missouri, and Shirley St. Pierre of San Antonio, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. memorial services will be held at a later date with burial at Black Pond Cemetery. Arrangements were under the care of Bradford Funeral Home of Summersville.

Rebecca Lynn Roberts Barnes, or Becky as everyone knew her, was born January 17, 1955 at Van Buren, Missouri, to parents William Eugene Roberts Sr. and Betty 'June' Tucker Roberts. She departed this world at her home in Winona, Missouri, on March 26, 2015, at the age of 60 years. Becky grew up in Winona but a large part of her childhood and some of her most special memories were spent on Rocky, around Rocky Creek area and the Current River. Her family used to play bluegrass and country music and would travel all over to perform. She talked of these days very fondly over the years and they were a big part of the person she became. Becky attended Winona High School, graduating in 1973. She met the love of her life, Jimmy Earl Barnes Sr., 'Jim' while in high school and they were married May 19, 1972, in Winona, Missouri. To this union three children were born: Corinna Lenore, Jimmy Earl Jr., and Clinton Duane….who she affectionately called Cory, Jeb, and Clint. She had a son-in-law and three daughters-in-law who she considered equal to her own children, being just as special as the ones she gave birth to. So, as she called it, Everrett Fulk was her other son. Brenda Barnes, Jonie Barnes, and Cayla Barnes she considered her true daughters, as well. Becky was preceded in death by her father Gene Roberts and her brother Bill Roberts; grandparents Wash & Ava Norris Tucker, and Frank & Opal Simpson Roberts. She is survived by her husband, Jim Barnes; her children, Cory Barnes Fulk, Jeb Barnes, and Clinton Barnes. Becky is also survived by her mother, June Roberts of Winona, Missouri; four sisters: Glenda Burns and husband Roger of Mountain View, Missouri, Brenda Counts and husband Rex, Betty Needels and husband Clifford, and Beverly Roberts, all of Winona; grandchildren Erika Sayer of North Pole Alaska, Olivia Barnes, Tyler Fulk and Kendra Barnes, all of Winona, Missouri; Dusty and Tori Barnes of Thermopolis, Wyoming; Andi Barnes, Kolton Patterson and Kathan Barnes, of Winona, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Taking care of and loving her grandchildren is what gave Becky the most joy. She loved and spoiled these kids beyond measure. Her favorite title ever was the one given by her grandchildren - their one and only, MeMa. Becky spent many years working at Paramount Cap Factory in Winona, where she made many lifelong friends. Many of her last years were spent as a homemaker and a MeMa to watch over whichever grandkid was deciding to hang out with her for the day. Becky had a number of hobbies. She loved music, reading romance novels and flea market shopping with her very special friend, Velma Russell. Everyone that knew her will recall her fondness - perhaps borderline obsession - with chocolate. She loved to hold big family dinners to celebrate anything that came to her mind to celebrate. Everyone loved her cooking, especially her homemade bread and turkey and dumplings. Becky always had a smile for everyone, and a personality that would light up a room. She knew how to make everyone feel as if they were the only one in the room. No one went unnoticed or ignored while she was there. She was often the life of the party with her beautiful smile an infectious laugh. She loved her friends and family dearly and will be missed beyond measure. This world will never be the same without her. Becky was buried at Mount Zion Cemetery.

Shirley Katherine Burge Barnes - Born August 3, 1929 in Corona del Mar, CA, to Arthur and Anna (Reed) Burge. She passed away Feb. 16, 2005 at the Birch View Nursing Center at Birch Tree, Missouri. Shirley was united in marriage to Emeral Barnes on September 20, 1943, and to this union four children were born: Mary, William, Jeanne and Jim. Surviving is daughter Mary Ellen Haney of Winona; son William Barnes and wife Karen of McCrae, Arkansas; daughter Jeanne Allen of Harrison, Arkansas; son Jim and wife Becky Barnes, of Winona; stepdaughter, Doris Blair and husband of Maryville, Tennessee; eight grandchildren and thirty-five great and great-great grandchildren; her only brother, Galen Burge, of Maryville, Tennessee, and her only sister, June Painter, of Lowell, Arkansas. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Preceding Shirley in death, parents, Arthur and Anna Burge; husband, Emeral Barnes; four grandchildren, Lexie Barnes, Kelly Blair, Kris Blair and Jeffery Brayfield; two great grandchildren, Nellie Haney and David Blair; two sons- in-law, Joe Haney and Rufus Allen. Shirley was a charter member of the Winona Church of God of Prophecy since July 10, 1955. She loved her Church and everything it stands for. She enjoyed going to church as often as she could. She was a volunteer at the Birch Tree Nursing Center and enjoyed spending time with the residents and staff, most of whom affectionately called her ‘Granny Barnes’. Shirley enjoyed crocheting and knitting; it was unusual to see her without a crochet hook or knitting needle in her hands. She made many, many items, giving them all away. She loved to relax in her porch swing. As early as possible in the Spring she had her swing placed back outside where she could sit and enjoy life. She was a very special lady and will be greatly missed by not only family, but her many, many friends. 'Rest in Peace, Mom, you made it home.' ~ From your kids. Virgil Everett 'Tooter' Barnes was born September 21, 1916 at New Liberty, Missouri, the son of Jake Barnes and Cora (Jones) Barnes. He passed away on August 22, 2015 at Birch Tree Place nursing home at the age of 98 years. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Cora Barnes; his wife, Celia (Van) Barnes; five brothers – Alfred Barnes, Willis Barnes, Elvis Barnes, Odis Barnes, and Robert Barnes; three sisters – Altha (Barnes) Williams, Edna (Barnes) Pulliam, and Pauline (Barnes) Gosnell; and son-in-law, Morris W. McDaniel. Virgil is survived by one daughter, Joyce Ann (Barnes) McDaniel, of Spring, Texas; one son, Everett Wayne Barnes, of Columbia, Missouri; one granddaughter, Michelle A. Jones, and her husband, Timothy B. Jones, of Spring, Texas; three great grandchildren – Micah N. Connors, Sarah E. Connors, and Annabelle K. Jones, all of Spring, Texas; and a host of other family and friends. Virgil attended Banner Schools through the eighth grade. He was raised on a farm with horses and broke ground, planted and harvested crops and mended fences. He later worked on a farm in the Freemont, Missouri area making 40 cents a day with room and board. In 1944, Virgil was drafted into the United States Army 31st Infantry Division and served in New Guinea. He re-enlisted for another four years while he was serving in Manila and served at Newport News, Virginia. When he was honorably discharged, he worked at Fisher Body in St. Louis, Missouri, later at Lincoln-Mercury, and also at Monsanto Chemical in St. Louis, Missouri. Virgil returned to the Birch Tree area in 1953, at which time he worked primarily in the timber industry. Virgil pastored the Church of God of Prophecy in Mountain View, Missouri. He later bought a little school near Mountain View and moved the location of the church to where it is located today. Virgil preached at the church for the first year until Reverend Bud Younger followed as the pastor. Virgil pastored nine churches in Missouri, including Mountain View, Montier, Summersville, Flatwoods, Fremont, Winona, West Plains, Eminence, and Chaffee. He also pastored churches in Tye, Texas and Butte, Montana. Interment Oak Grove Cemetery.

William M. Barnes was born July 11,1868; departed this life Feb. 17.1938 at the age of 69 years. He was united in marriage to Lura Ellen Copeland Sep. 20,1888, and to this union were born 12 children, five girls and seven boys. Five of the children preceded him in death. Left to mourn his loss are his wife Lura Barnes and seven children, Mrs. Hattie Maberry of Winona; Mrs. Florida Robbins of Indiana; Irvin, Omer, Toney and Emeral of Winona, and Mrs. Adeline Brawley of Alton; one sister, thirty nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mr. Barnes was united with the Baptist Church at the age of 20 years and remained faithful unto his death. NOTE: He was the son of James Barnes and Mary 'Lucinda' Piles. His children were Auda Harold (m. Anna Mae Mayberry), Ervin Arthur (m. Maude May Green), Omer Hayden (m.Viola Bernice Brawley), Toney Arvil (m. Minnie Hannah Johnston), Melvin Odas (died in infancy), Bernice Manola (m. Lemuel Jones Nichols), Florida B. (m. Marion Robbins, m. Unknown Sellars), Naomi (died in early 20s), Emeral (m. Eileen Prewett, m. Shirley Katherine Burge), an infant son who was born and died in 1912, Florence (died in early 20s) and Hattie Mabel Barnes (m. William 'Benjamin' Mayberry). He and Lura Ellen are buried at Mount Zion Cemetery at Winona.

William Mathis 'Mack' Barnes - Born July 1, 1916, the son of Samuel A. and Millie Norton Barnes, and passed away Jan. 24, 1992 at his home in Fremont, MO at the age of 75 years. He was united in marriage to Alta Alyne Leslie on June 27, 1947 at Harding, AR.  They purchased a farm near Fremont, MO and here they lived most of their lives together. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alta Alyne; one infant son; his grandson, Mike; two brothers; and two sisters. He leaves to mourn his passing one son and daughter-in-law, Roger Allen and Rita Barnes of Van Buren, MO; one grandson, Brian Barnes of Van  Buren, MO; four brothers, Chester Barnes of Poplar Bluff,  MO, Norton Barnes of Willow Springs, MO, Maxown Barnes of Huntsville, MO and Dorris Barnes of Fremont, MO; and a host of other family and friends. Mack was a fine neighbor and a very loving father and husband. Funeral services were held Mon., Jan. 27, 1992 at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Winona, MO with Rev. Calvin Jones officiating.  Interment was in the Evaline-Green Mountain Cemetery under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home of Winona. 

Willie Raymond Barnes, age 23 years, 6 months, 24 days, died of tuberculosis at his home on Winona-New Liberty Star Route at 6 o’clock last Saturday morning. He was married to Miss Edna West on May 10th, 1922, and is survived by his widow and two of their three children. Mr. Barnes suffered from tuberculosis some twelve years, during which time he spent considerable time in Colorado, New Mexico and the Missouri Hospital at Mount Vernon. Early in his last confinement, which covered a period of about one year, he professed faith in Christ and developed an increasing hope for eternal life until his passing. Alice Marie Duncan Barnett was born March 5, 1922 in Shannon County, Missouri to Lewis Joseph Duncan and Bessie Jane Plowman Duncan. Alice went to her heavenly home, surrounded by her family Saturday evening, October 30, 2010, making her age 88 years 7 months and 25 days. Alice was united in marriage to James Frank Barnett, and to their union 7 children were born, 2 daughters, Carol and Evelyn, 5 sons, James Cleo, Frankie Eugene, David Leon, Sherman Dean and Donald Eugene were born. Alice lived in the Summersville area most of her life. She enjoyed playing Skip-Bo. She loved playing the guitar, playing with others when she could. She loved having family and friends stop by to visit with her. When able she liked to putter in her yard tending her flowers. Alice attended the First Baptist Church in Summersville when her health permitted. Preceding Alice in death are her parents, Lewis and Bessie, her husband Frank, 4 sons, Cleo and Eugene, infant sons, Sherman Dean and Donald Eugene, 3 brothers, Lewis, Leonard, and Bill Duncan, 5 sisters, Maude, Nancy, Lillian, Jane and Marie. Alice is survived by her three children, daughters, Carol Basham and husband Jack of Hillsboro, Missouri; Evelyn Wells and Johnny Black of Rolla, Missouri, son David Barnett and wife Linda of Summersville, Missouri, 19 grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, 1 sister, Linda Plowman of Houston, Missouri and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends. Frankie Eugene Barnett - Son of James Frank BARNETT and Alice Marie (DUNCAN) BARNETT was born June 22, 1945 in Summersville MO. Frank passed away at his home Sunday, March 4, 2007, after a battle with cancer making his age 61 years. Frank worked at many jobs in his lifetime; he owned several service businesses in Summersville and in St. Louis. He also worked at Atlas Tool, Grand Manufacturing Co., A- Rack, Williams Bus line, and operated the ferry at Owls Bend (Powder Mill Ferry). Frank's last employment was for Imperial Charcoal Plant in Summersville. Frank enjoyed his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed running around with Wayne and David, taking care of the cattle, horses, bush hogging and daily routine farm work. He loved to visit and spend time with his many friends. Frank is preceded in death by his father James Frank BARNETT, his brother James Cleo BARNETT, two infant brothers, Sherman Dean BARNETT and Donald Eugene BARNETT, granddaughter Amber BARNETT, and stepson Bryan STEWART. Ervin Glen Barrett, age 62, died Wednesday morning at his home, surround by his loving family. He was born in Winona, Missouri on January 23, 1946, the son of Glen and Wilma (Copeland) Barrett, and lived in Lunenburg, Massachusetts for 27 years until moving to Winchendon, Massachusetts five years ago. Glen worked in the computer industry for many years and retired as Vice President of Legacy Sales and Service, of the former TLC Company in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. He previously worked at Data General and Digital Corporations. Glen proudly serviced in the US Army and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Expert Rifle M-14 Ribbon. Glen was a member of Artisan Lodge of Masons. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and golfing but he mostly treasured spending time with his family. He leaves his wife of 38 years, Arline H. (Whalen) Barrett; two children Kimberly Celona of Worcester, Massachusetts, and Scott G. Barrett of Candia, New Hampshire; five grandchildren, Cassandra, Amanda, Anthony, Ethan and Emma; three brothers, Jimmie Barrett, Gerald Barrett and Steve Barrett, a sister, Sherian Appuglies, a stepbrother George Barrett, a step sister, Linda McAdams, all of Missouri, and several nephews and nieces. Lola Florene Warren was born April 30, 1925 at Eminence, Missouri, and went to be with the Lord on September 13, 1997. Lola was the seventh of twelve children born to Jess Warren and Raussie Wood Warren, both of whom preceded her in death. She was an active member of Bales Baptist Church. She leaves behind many friends and neighbors. She is most remembered for always helping someone in need, whether it be baking cookies for the church, taking a neighbor to the doctor or just listening to others' problems. Lola gave much love and was loved very much in return. Burial was at Mount Zion Cemetery.

Minnie Mae Cooley was born September 15, 1901 in Oregon , Missouri, daughter of the late Mary Alice (Barnes) and Raney (Runa) Cooley. She departed this life on April 28, 1980 at the Poplar Bluff Hospital, Poplar Bluff, Missouri, at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 13 days. Minnie attended grammar school at New Liberty. She was baptized into the Methodist Church at an early age. She was united in marriage to Otto Ervin Barrett on October 18, 1918 at Alton, Missouri. To this union two children were born: Glen Eldon and Beacie Marie. Preceding her in death were her parents and stepfather Henry Weaver, sister Myrtle Gardner, two brothers, Willie Cooley and Goldman Weaver and a sister, Pearl Cooley, who died in infancy. Those left to mourn her passing are son Glen Barrett of Kansas City, Missouri; daughter Beacie McAdams Asher, of Salem, Missouri; one half-sister, Grace Weaver Parke, of West Plains, Missouri; eleven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson; many relatives and a host of friends and neighbors. Services were held Thursday, May 1st at 1 p.m. in the Winona Methodist Church with burial at Mount Zion Cemetery in Winona, under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home of Winona. Otto Ervin Barrett was born June 15, 1897 at New Liberty, Missouri, in Oregon County the son of Joel Lee and Julia Elva McSpadden Barrett and departed this life on Sept. 27, 1990 at Ozark Medical Center in West Plains, Missouri, at the age of 93 years. He was married to Minnie Mae Cooley on Oct. 16, 1918 at Alton, Missouri, and to this union two children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Minnie on April 28, 1980; one great grandson; two brothers and one sister; one daughter-in-law; and one son-in-law. He is survived by one son, Glen E. Barrett of Kansas City, MO; one daughter, Beacie Asher of West Plains, MO; eleven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; ten step-great grandchildren; and fifteen great great grandchildren. Otto was a past member of Odd Fellows Lodge of Winona. Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 29 at 1 pm in the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Winona with Rev. Golden Hampton officiating.  Interment was in Mount Zion Cemetery under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home of Winona.

Leroy Wayne 'Bart' Bartholomew, son of Wayne and Pearl (Johnson) Bartholomew, was born July 20, 1921, in Lodi, Wisconsin. He passed on December 24, 2007, at the age of 86. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp then joined the U.S. Navy in 1940, achieving the rank of Aviation Chief Machinist’s Mate. He met Betty Jean Smith while stationed in Great Lakes, Illinois, and they married on July 17, 1943. He left the Navy with an honorable discharge in 1946 and moved to Webb City, Missouri, where he lived for almost 60 years. Bart owned and operated a small garage in Alba, Missouri, most of that time. He drove his 1948 Ford coupe, the most recognizable fixture in his life, every day until he parked it in 2005. Besides pampering his 'little Ford', Bart liked to hunt, fish, pitch horseshoes, run the pool table, or talk with friends who dropped by. He was a life-long fan of sports, especially Yankee baseball. Bart is survived by his younger brother, Kenneth L. Bartholomew, Sauk Centre, Minnesota; his daughter, Sharon and son-in-law, Marshall Buffington, of Eminence, Missouri; his granddaughter, Stacia Buffington, and her husband, David A. Miller, of Willard, Missouri; two grandsons; and many dear friends. Bart was preceded in death by grandson, Michael Stuart Buffington; Betty, his wife of 46 years; and his sister, Elaine Rhodes. His remains will join those of his wife’s, the final resting place to be the Buffington Cemetery in Ellington, Missouri. In lieu of a memorial service, his daughter requests friends gather on Bart’s birthday to celebrate his life and remember him as the character he was. Arrangements were made under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home of Eminence, Missouri.

Elmer Everett Barton, age 72, son of John and Hattie Carver Barton, was born Jan. 24, 1919, near Bunker. He died May 12, 1991, at Lester E. Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Missouri. He grew up in the Bunker and Hartshorn communities. For the last 35 years he lived in the Houston, Missouri, area, where he was a truck driver for an LP gas company. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia; four brothers, Homer, Golden, Jim and Ray Barton; two sisters, Bertha Derryberry and Juel Barton; and one granddaughter. Surviving are 10 sons, Garry, Ronnie, Lonnie, Ivan, Vincent, Justin Barton and Utah Smith, all of Houston, Missouri; Larry of Huggins, Missouri; Alvin of Success, Missouri, and Kevin of the state of North Carolina; four daughters, Sylvia Eavenson of Ashland, Missouri, Linda Hildebrand of Roby, Missouri, Brenda Nolker of Lawson, Missouri, and Patricia Barton of Hartville, Missouri; one sister, Grace Thompson of Mountain View, Missouri; three brothers, Melvin and Cecil of Bismark and John of Bay City, Michigan; 35 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Services were May 15 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sheldon Zook officiating. Burial was in the Antioch Cemetery near Summersville.

Ivan Paul Barton, age 35, son of Elmer Barton and Sylvia Morgan Barton, was born July 2, 1956, at Houston, Missouri. He died from cancer on April 11, 1992, at Texas County Memorial Hospital at Houston, Missouri. A 1974 graduate of Houston High School, he spent his life in Texas County except for four years spent in the Marine Corps stationed in Okinawa, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Far East. He married Linda Duncan Feb. 24, 1982. He worked at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, for a time before going into the building construction business. He owned and operated Mid-Missouri Rebuilders. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Vincent and Edith Morgan and John O. and Hattie Mae Barton. Surviving are his wife, Linda, of the home at Houston, Missouri; three children, Carmon Monique, Ivan Paul II 'Pete' and David Wayne Barton of the home at Houston, Missouri; four sisters, Linda Hildebrand of Roby, Sylvia Eavenson of Hartsburg, Missouri; Brenda Nolker of Lawson, Missouri, and Patricia Jones of Hartville, Missouri; nine brothers, Utah Smith and Gary, Ronnie, Lonnie, Justin and Vincent Barton of Houston, Missouri, Larry Barton of Lenox, Missouri; Alvin Barton of Success, Missouri, and Kevin Barton of Stella, North Carolina. James Earl 'Jim' Barton, also loving called Mr. B, was born in Hartshorn, Missouri, December 20, 1926 to his parents, Charles Monroe Barton and Vena Delpha Crabtree Barton. Jim passed away Friday, June 17, 2011 at his home in St. Peters, Missouri, making his age 84 years.  He grew up in the Hartshorn/Summersville Community where he attended school. On May 3, 1947, he married his beloved wife Merry (Billie) Pendland. They celebrated 56 years together before her death in January, 2004. They were blessed with six children, Doug, Darell, Gary, Anita, Robert, and Denise. He and Billie moved to the St. Peters area shortly after their marriage and he resided there until his death. Jim worked as a carpenter building residential homes for over 40 years. He served in the United States Navy from March 21, 1945 to August 20, 1946.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Billie; one son, Darell; his parents, Charley and Vena Barton; four brothers, Virgil, Cecil, Ralph, and Elmer; three sisters, Marie Goetz, Mildred Cook, and Ola Mae Harmon. Jim is survived by his children, Doug Barton and wife, Delores, of St. Charles, Missouri, Gary Barton and wife, Donna, of O’Fallon, Missouri, Anita Smith and husband, Bill, of Salem, Missouri, Robert Barton and Vicki of the Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, Denis King and husband, John, of Moscow Mills, Missouri, a daughter-in-law, Shirley Barton, of St. Peters, Missouri, 22 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Jim is also survived by two sisters, Thelma McKee of Summersville, Missouri, June Stark and husband, Elvin, of Ivanhoe, Texas, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel in Summersville with Rev. Gary Steelman officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed at Antioch Cemetery under the care of Bradford Funeral Home of Summersville.

May June Counts was born Jun. 6, 1920, in Shannon County, Missouri, and died Apr. 7, 1997, at Mountain View, Missouri. She was the daughter of Washington and Lue Nichols Counts. She married Silas Barton Feb. 29, 1940, and had seven children. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and one infant son Columbus Leroy. She is survived by her husband Silas; six children, Hazel Carter, Jerry Barton, Betty Burrus, David Barton, twins- Judy Davis, and Sudy Baidwin. 13 grand children, 6 great-grandchildren. Burial was at Bethany Chapel Cemetery near Eminence, Missouri.

Larry Dean Barton of Salem, MO was a born December 19, 1958 in Coos Bay, Oregon and passed away June 12, 2016 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, MO at the age of 57 years. Larry faced numerous struggles during his earthly walk, deafness since birth being one. Larry graduated from MO School for the Deaf / Kansas City, MO in 1997, lettering in football and received a special diploma in Graphic Art Design. He obtained completion of Drafting Design at Rolla Technical Institute. Larry completed Water Quality Monitoring Workshop and served as a volunteer as well as a member of the Missouri Stream Team. He was very active in the Missouri Deaf Bass Anglers Association as well as the National Bass Association for the Deaf. He was an avid fisherman. Larry was devoted to studying and embracing Native American culture in his life and was a card carrying member of “Western Cherokee”. He made medicine pouches, did beadwork by hand, as well as making birdhouses and hand tied fishing lures. He was a hard worker and had a tender heart for others. He had a quick wit and quirky personality which many never saw. When he was young he stood at the juke box putting in one quarter after another playing Glen Campbell songs. When asked if he could hear the songs, he grinned and said no but I like his hair and did a little jig. Another time he ordered a chocolate ice cream cone at a local drive in and when the server handed him vanilla, he grinned and said “I told you chocolate, what is the matter are you deaf?”. He took being deaf in stride although it presented him with many challenges. Preceding him in death, his father, James Shelby Barton and his mother, Mary Jo Smith Barton Powell. He is survived by siblings Peggy Barton Stanley of Birch Tree, MO, James Carl Barton of Hollister, MO, Shane Barton of Colorado and Sara Barton Hill of Springfield, MO and nieces Stella and Hannah Barton and nephews Caleb and Joshua Stanley. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will be missed by those who knew him. Larry acknowledged giving his life to Christ several years ago and our hope is that we will see him again in the presence of our Lord. He will be cremated and his remains placed in Oak Forrest Cemetery, Birch Tree, MO next to his beloved mother. A memorial service will be planned for July. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in his name to the Missouri School for the Deaf.

Merry Billie Pendland, daughter of the late Homer Pendland and Minnie (Sullivan) Pendland, was born February 27, 1928, at Hartshorn, Missouri, and passed away at St. Peters Manor Care Center at St Peters, Missouri, January 20, 2004, at age 75 years, 10 months, 24 days. She was united in marriage to James E. Barton on May 3, 1947, and they were together 56 years. To this union six children were born: Doug, Darell, Gary, Anita, Robert and Denise. She grew up in the Hartshorn area, and after her marriage to Jim moved to the St. Peters,, Missouri, area where she resided until her death. She was a devoted wife and mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved doing things for her family. Preceding her in death are her parents, Homer and Minnie; four sisters, Ruby Stark, Grace Perkins, Mabel Belew and Opal Norris; two brothers, Arvel Pendland and Johnny Pendland. Billie is survived by her husband, Jim Barton, of St. Peters, Missouri; her children, Doug Barton and wife Delores of St. Charles, Missouri, Darell Barton and wife Shirley of St. Peters, Missouri; Gary Barton and wife Donna of O’Fallon, Missouri; Anita Smith and husband Bill of Salem, Missouri; Robert Barton and wife Vicki of St. Charles, Missouri; Denise King and husband John of Moscow Mills, Missouri; brother Joe Barton of St. Louis, Missouri; twenty-two grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Services were held on Saturday, January 24, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Bradford Funeral Chapel in Summersville,, Missouri, with Rev. Leland STOOPS officiating. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home of Summersville, Missouri. Walter Edward Barton was born May 8, 1925, at Delaware, Missouri, the son of George Barton and Effie (Younger) Barton. He passed away Sunday, April 8, 2012, at National Health Care in West Plains, Missouri, at the age of 86 years. He married his childhood sweetheart, Geraldine Asplin, on March 13, 1945, at Salem, Arkansas, and to this union three children were born. Walter was preceded in death by his parents George and Effie Barton; one daughter Jeannie Deatherage Curlile; two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife Geraldine Barton of Mountain View, Missouri; two sons Walter Edward Barton, Jr. and wife Elaine of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Chester A. Barton and wife Sue of Kellyville, Oklahoma; four brothers James S. Barton and wife Bev of Jadwin, Missouri; Floyd Barton and wife Betty of Birch Tree, Missouri; Glenn Barton and wife Claudette of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and Clyde Barton and wife Carolyn of Carthage, Missouri; three sisters Genevieve Patterson of Marmaduke, Arkansas; Edna Caine and husband Everette of Park Hill, Missouri, and Betty Cook and husband Charles of Birch Tree, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends. Walter joined the United States Army on August 26, 1943, at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. He served in Normandy, France, and was wounded on August 10, 1944. Walter was honorably discharged from the Army on April 25, 1945, at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. During his time in the Army he was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, the EAME Ribbon and the Normandy France Battle Star. Walter was an avid fisherman and loved to go fishing as often as he could. He loved God and was baptized in the Jacks Fork River. Walter enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation was on Thursday, Apr. 12, 2012, from 11:00 a.m. Until 1:00 p.m., followed by services at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Mountain View, Missouri Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery, Birch Tree, Missouri.

Bertha May Huddleston Basham was born May 13, 1924, at Webb City, Missouri, the daughter of Byrum Huddleston and Verma Marie (Blanchard) Huddleston. She departed this life on July 6, 2010, at Birch Tree Place in Birch Tree, Missouri, at the age of 86 years. She was united in marriage to Jack Basham on September 13, 1938, in Eminence, Missouri, and to this union six children were born. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents Byrum and Verma Huddleston; husband Jack Basham; 2 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. She is survived by her five sons Jack Basham and wife Carol of Hillsboro, Missouri; Truman Basham and wife Norma of Glen Allen, Missouri; Ronald Basham and wife Georgia of Wappapello, Missouri; Dan Basham and wife Sandy of Winona, Missouri, and Jerry Basham and wife Anna of Winona, Missouri; one daughter Phyllis Baker of Lebanon, Missouri; 24 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; many great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Bertha gave her heart and life to Jesus and was baptized many years ago. She retired from Paramount Manufacturing after 16 years of service. Bertha enjoyed quilting, crocheting and embroidering. She loved to sit and read a book for hours. She also loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Zander Lane Basham was born June 1, 2009, at Poplar Bluff, Missouri; the son of Zachery Lane Basham and Amber Nicole Smith. He departed this life on June 12, 2009, at the age of 12 days. Mark A. Bashor, son of Amos Bashor and Nora Griffith Bashor, was born in Arroll, Missouri, April 21, 1920. He passed away in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 86 years on Jan. 8, 2007 following a long illness. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dolly Lorene Mitchell Bashor; his parents, Amos and Nora; a son, Lyle Douglas Hollaway; a daughter, Beverly Ann Millender; 3 brothers, Amos, Harvey, and Charley Bashor; a half- brother, Fred Bashor; 3 sisters, Carrie Baird, Ann Myers, and Mrytle Freeman. Mark was a member of Kingsway Freewill Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri. He was drafted into the Army during World War II and served from September 16, 1941 through March 18, 1945. He was stationed in the Southwest Asiatic Pacific, 41st Infantry Division, better known as the 'Jungleers'. He served and was wounded in the Buna Sanadana operations in New Guinea. There he was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 2 clusters, the American Defense, and the World War II Medal, Combat Infantry Rifle Medal and Unit Citation. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. Mark is survived by 2 sons, Archie Fred and Linda Bashor of Summersville, Missouri, and Ricky Mark and MeSon Bashor of Seoul, Korea; 2 daughters, Shirley and Bob Ross, and Robin Eagle of Springfield, Missouri; a brother, Ralph and Jean Bashor of Summersville, Missouri; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Mark was a man of few words; he was a good neighbor and enjoyed helping others in anyway possible. Mark retired after 27 years from General Motors in St. Louis, Missouri, and lived in Granite City, Illinois. After retirement, he moved back to Summersville to the family farm where he and Lorene enjoyed their exotic chickens, cattle, and flea marketing. Due to illness, they moved to Springfield in 2001. Family Services were held on Thursday evening at Kingsway Freewill Baptist Church at 2516 North Park in Springfield, Missouri and a visitation was also held in Summersville at Bradford Funeral Home. Services were conducted on Saturday January 13, 2007, at Midvale Church under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home.

Ralph Benjamin Bashor, son of Amos A. Bashor and Nora Mae 'Griffith' Bashor, was born July 22, 1924 at home in Arroll, Missouri and passed away at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, Sunday, June 14, 2009 making his age 84 years, 10 months, 23 days. Ralph was united in marriage to Wilma Ramahjean Warburton, August 21, 1948. To their union two children were born, a son, Dallaslee Eugene Bashor of Summersville, MO and daughter, Nora Jean Bashor 'Marks' of Augusta, GA. Ralph attended Johns District 99 School of Texas County, Summersville, MO 1st through 8th grade. He earned his high school diploma through the United States Army Air Corps. Ralph was inducted into the Army Air Forces April 19, 1943 and served in World War II from April 26, 1943 through October 23, 1945. Ralph held the rank of Tech/Sgt and was the top gunner and chief engineer on a B-24 Liberator Bomber and flew 45 missions in Italy; there he earned five Bronze Battle Stars, for campaigns in North Appenniens, Po Valley, Rhineland, Central Europe, and Air Combat Balkans. Ralph also earned the following medals, Air Crew Member Wings, Aerial Gunner Wings, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Medal, Air Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Carbine Rifle and expert Pistol Medals. With honorable discharge, Ralph returned home and took up farming with his brother, Charley. After his elopement with his bride in Hardy, Arkansas, he began a full time milk route in the area. For a short while he was employed at Red Field Iowa Brick Yard. Soon after Ralph began working in the timber industry between Colorado, Utah, and Missouri. Ralph and Jean opened the R & J Mobile Gas Station/General Store in Arroll in 1966. Ralph also drove a Summersville school bus for many years and ran a backhoe and dump truck business. For several years, he worked grading the roads for his local township, then retiring and returned to farming full time. Ralph attended Arroll Church in his younger years and was saved. He was faithful to pray with his wife daily. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Amos A. and Nora Mae; a half-brother, Fred Bashor; four brothers: Amos, Harvey, Charley and Mark Bashor; three sisters: Carrie Baird, Ann Myers, and Myrtle Freeman; three nephews: Clifford Leroy Bashor, Douglass Holloway, Fred Birch; and one niece, Beverly Millender. Ralph is survived by his wife, Jean, of the home; son, Dallaslee of Summersville, MO; daughter, Nora Jean, and husband, Chris Marks, of Augusta, GA,; two grandsons: Ralph Benjamin Bashor and wife, Shawna, and Adam Lee Bashor; one granddaughter, Cari Alaine Marks; two great-grandchildren: Collin Andrew Bashor and Patricia Jade Bashor; three nephews: Lawrence Birch of California, Archie Fred Bashor of Summersville and Ricky Bashor of Seoul, Korea; two nieces: Shirley Ross and Robin Eagle, both of Springfield, MO. Ralph will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His caring personality, warm heart and selflessness generosity created countless memories for all those who knew and loved him. Funeral services were held Friday, June 19, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Midvale Church with Rev. Emmett Bradford and Rev. Pat Cronk officiating. Interment was in Arroll Cemetery with full military honors, under the care of Bradford Funeral Home.

Pansy Ora Partney Bauer, age 97, of Mountain View, Missouri, was born Oct. 28, 1911, near Mountain View, the daughter of Edward and Ollie Holden Partney. She departed this life at 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at Mountain View Health Care, Mountain View, Missouri. On July 28, 1929, she was united in marriage to Guy Tranbarger and to this union four children were born. On March 17, 1957, she was married at Pomona, Missouri, to William Henry Bill Bauer, who preceded her in death on June 9, 1991. Mrs. Bauer worked for Angelica Uniform Factory from 1948 until her retirement. She also worked on her dairy farm for many years. Pansy loved life and everything about it. She spent her life working hard, gardening and loving her family. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. She was loved by many and will be sadly missed. She is survived by four children, Lilburn Tranbarger and wife, Joyce, John Tranbarger and wife, LaDonna and Orval Tranbarger and wife, Debbie, all of Mountain View Missouri, and Dixie Samuelson and husband Larry, of Burton, Michigan; 19 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice Schwien, Mountain View Missouri, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Her parents, both husbands and two brothers precede her in death. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, May 2, 2009, at the Rose Chapel in the Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial was at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Compassus and left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.

Lois Mae Hatton Baugh was born August 10, 1909 in Moulten, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Minnie Hatton, and departed this life on January 23, 1992 at her home in Birch Tree, Missouri. Lois attended Birch Tree High School, graduating in 1927. She married Roy Eugene Baugh on July 2, 1933 at Birch Tree, Missouri, and to this union four children were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Edith Rae Baugh; two brothers, Austin and Everett Hatton, and two sisters, Jenny Hatton and Belle Burk. She is survived by her husband, Roy, of the home; three sons, Eugene Baugh of Springhill, Florida; Billie Baugh of Birch Tree, Missouri; one brother, Frank C. Hatton of Republic, Missouri; eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Lois was a member of the Baptist Church at Birch Tree and had worked with youth groups in the church for a number of years. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 25, 1992 at the First Baptist Church in Birch Tree with Rev. Tommy Barnhart officiating. Interment was in Berea Mennonite Cemetery under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home of Birch Tree.

Roy Eugene Baugh departed this life on August 30, 1994 at Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 86. He was born March 2, 1908 at Birch Tree, Missouri, the son of John Robert and Emma Alice Morrell. He was united in marriage to Lois Mae Hatton at Birch Tree on July 2, 1932. To this union four children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois, on January 23, 1992; one daughter, Edith Rae; two brothers; Orville and Johnnie, and five sisters, Fern Baugh, Jessie Nellis, Nora Daffer, Edith Liggett and Ruby Phelps. He is survived by three sons, Eugene Baugh of Springhill, Florida; Billie Baugh of Sturgeon, Missouri, and Roy L. Baugh of Birch Tree, Missouri; one brother, Neville Baugh of Waldon, Colorado; two sisters, Velma Keffer of San Diego, California, and Mildred Allen of Bronson Kansas; one brother-in-law, Frank Carwin Hatton of Republic, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Mae Hutton of Mountain View, Missouri, eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Roy spent his life in Birch Tree, on the farm where he was born, and where his son Roy now lives. He was a member of the Baptist Church of Birch Tree. Funeral services were held September 2, 1994, at the First Baptist Church in Birch Tree, with the Rev. Tommy G. Barnhart and Rev. Keith Vawter officiating. Interment was in the Berea Mennonite Cemetery.

Vada Imogene Washburn was born September 13, 1909 in Winona, Missouri, the daughter of Arthur and Elizabeth (Garrett) Washburn. She departed this life December 29, 2008 in Mountain View, Missouri, at the age of ninety-nine years, three months and sixteen days. She was known as Imo by all her family and friends. Imo lived most of her life in the Fremont, Missouri area. During World War II she became a 'Rosie the Riverter' in St. Louis  making airplane parts. After returning to this area she took a job with the United States Forest Service. On October 6, 1928 she was united in marriage to Ezra Cranston Yardley in Van Buren, Missouri, and to this union three children were born. Cranston preceded her in death on November 8, 1982. She was also preceded in death by one son, Dorris Yardley; four brothers, Omer, Earl, Vernon and Cecil Washburn; four sisters, Diamond, Gladys, Juanita and Geneva; one grandson, Tim Yardley and one son-in-law, Ray Jones. She later married Frank Bauman, who also preceded her in death. Survivors include one son, Gene Yardley and his wife Martha, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one daughter, Geraldine Jones of Mountain View; one brother, Bill Washburn of Central City, Kentucky; and one sister, Loneatta Neal of Roseburg, Oregon; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; eighteen great-great-grandchildren; step children, Frances Bauman of St. Marys, Sister Mary Luke of St. Louis; Margaret Ritter of Perryville; Hilda Kranzle and Stella Meuller both of St. Genevieve, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends who mourn her passing. Imo was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Winona, Missouri. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and quilting. Visitation for Imo Yardley was on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 in the McSpadden Funeral Home in Van Buren, Missouri. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Darrell Derryberry of Winona, Missouri officiating. Burial was at Freeman Cemetery in Fremont, Missouri. Pallbearers were Billy Jones, Norman Washburn, Donnie Washburn, Dennis Yardley and Jeff Yardley. Georgia Faye Hunt was born November 17, 1943, at Midridge, Missouri, to Charles M. Hunt and Helen B. (Ferguson) Hunt Thompson. She departed this life June 25, 2011 at the age of 67 years, 7 months, and 8 days. Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, Charles M. Hunt and Helen B. (Hunt) Thompson; three brothers Clifford W. Hunt, Robert M. Hunt and Billie G. Hunt; two sisters, Shelby M. (Hunt) Bray and Barbara G. Rosson; and one nephew, Charles E. Hunt. She is survived by her daughter, Curtissa J. Shedd and husband, Dennis, of West Eminence, Missouri; two grandsons, Richard J. Ralston of Sedalia, Missouri, and David L. Ralston of Forsyth, Missouri; four step-grandchildren, Brenna Shedd, Deborah Summer, Beau McFall and Chris Jones; one great grandson, Kyle J. Ralston, numerous other step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Georgia lived in the Eminence area until 1958 when the family moved to Union, Missouri, where she graduated from high school and began her adult life. She lived in Birch Tree, Missouri for about 35 years intermittently. She worked as a plumber and for General Motors in Texas, raised a daughter, helped her brothers and sisters in the time of need until they departed this world. Georgia had accepted Jesus Christ as her savior and was at peace. She will be sadly missed by all her friends and family. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Eminence, Missouri with Rev. Sam Upton officiating. Janet Denise Norton Bay was born July 21, 1955 at St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Gene Edward Norton and Nora Helen (Shomaker) Norton. She passed away May 28, 2016 at West Plains, MO at the age of 60 years.  She was united in marriage to Raymond Paul Bay in 1973 and to this union two children were born. Janet was later united to Gary Hobbs and to this union one son was born. Janet is preceded in death by her parents Gene and Nora Norton; her husband Raymond Bay; and one brother Joe Norton. She is survived by the love of her life of 31 years, Gary Hobbs; one son Fred Hobbs of Mountain View, MO; two daughters Athena Herold of Mountain View, MO and Lucinda Poe of Seattle, WA; one brother Leland Norton of Winona, MO; three sisters Linda Wallace and husband David of Birch Tree, MO, Ginger Smith and husband Dennis of Winona, MO, and Gail Cook and husband John of Bradleyville, MO; one grandson Chance Herold of Mountain View, MO; and a host of other family and friends. Janet moved from St. Louis to Winona, MO at an early age and attended Winona Elementary and Winona High School. She enjoyed crafting and was very talented. Janet enjoyed making dream catchers, knitting, roping baskets, baking, and food preservation. She enjoyed researching American Indian customs. Janet was very talented in beading and especially enjoyed creating the Thunderbird in beadwork. Janet and Gary enjoyed the times they were able to spend in their 20 foot Tepee. She would set up the tepee where they could stay, cook and sleep. Janet loved her horses and some of her favorites were Dusty, Trixie, and Lady Bug. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. Interment at Mount Zion Cemetery.

Jerri Miller was born December 30, 1956 at Mountain View, Missouri, the daughter of Fred Lonzo and Alta Mae Bradley Miller. She departed this life on April 9, 2007 at her home in Mountain View at the age of 50 years. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Mountain View, and worked as a waitress at Ron’s Family Restaurant. She completed 12 years of education. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 12, 2007 at the Assembly of God Church at Mountain View, Missouri, with the Rev.’s Bill Miller, Bert Montgomery, Rick Plumlee and Ross Marshall officiating. Interment was in Chapel Hill Cemetery at Mountain View, Missouri, under the direction of Yarber Mortuary of Mountain View.

Sherry Ann Bay was born January 15, 1967 at West Plains, Missouri, the daughter of Donald Bay and Shirley (Williams) Bay. She passed away June 10, 2008 at Shannon County, Missouri, at the age of 41 years. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Robert and Bessie Bay and Morgan and Lavina Williams. She is survived by her parents Don and Shirley Bay of Mountain View; brothers, Randy Bay; Terry Bay and wife Kimberly, and Jason Bay and wife Elizabeth, and sister Heather Bay, all of Mountain View, Missouri; thirteen nieces and nephews: Justin Bay, Brandon Bay, Amanda Bay, Bradly Bay, Brenton Bay, Brendon Bay, Zachary, Tiffany , Hannah and Hunter Bay, and Cody, Tiffany and Ashley Miller; four great nieces and nephews: Quentin Smith, Madison and Broc Bay and Korie Lind; her special friend Paris Remlinger; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Sherry loved craftwork and rock collecting. Although did not complete the course at cosmetology school, she loved cutting hair and was very good at it. Sherry enjoyed witnessing for the Lord, singing and just having fun. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Virgil John Harrison Bay, 87, of Springfield, Missouri, and formerly of Birch Tree, Missouri, died Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. He was born on December 29, 1924 in Oregon County, Missouri, the son of Lord Edmond and Mary (Snider) Bay. Shorty was united in marriage to Sylvia Pierce on August 24, 1946. To this union, four children were born, Johnny Leon, Raymond Paul, Elizabeth Ann, and Ella Marie. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sylvia; children, Johnny, Paul and Liz; four brothers; and three sisters. Survivors include one daughter, Ella Miller and husband, Hershel, of Alton, Missouri; four sisters, Kay Walker of Springfield, MO, Joann Calvin of Nixa, MO, Louise Cline of Carthage, MO, and Mae Barnes of Independence, MO; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. In his younger years, Shorty worked in the timber. He enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. Shorty was an avid hunter and enjoyed many hunting trips out West. He loved baseball and was a Cardinal fan. He also loved animal and kids. He cherished time spent with his family. Visitation was held Saturday, Sep. 1, 2012 at Yarber Mortuary, followed by graveside services at Bethlehem Cemetery in Oregon County, Missouri.

Melba Dian Wiseman was born June 9, 1947 in Farmington, Missouri, the daughter of Raymond Riley Wiseman and Melba Lee (McCabe) Wiseman. She passed away June 5, 2008 in Anaheim, California at the age of 60 years. Dian was preceded in death by her parents Raymond R. Wiseman and her cherished mother Melba Lee (McCabe) Fuller; her brother-in-law Larry Johnson; and her niece Sherry Wiseman. She is survived by her five children, John D. Williams of Marina, California; Shannon L. Beasock and fiancé Kevin L. Rosen of Riverside, California; David A. Beasock of Murray, Utah; Grace D. Ariss and husband Eddie A. Ariss, MD, of Madeira Beach, Florida and Michael A. Beasock and wife Cheryl Beasock of Alvin, Texas; ten grandchildren, Shane M. Forrester of Riverside, California; Jessica and Brittney Williams of Covina, California; Jayde M., Michael C. and Karmin R. Beasock, all of Alvin Texas; Anthony E. and Christian Ariss of Madeira Beach, Florida; and Ryan H. Rosen and Regan E. Rosen of Riverside, California: six brothers and sisters, Mary K. Roth of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; Thomas Wiseman and wife Laura of Temple, Texas; James Wiseman and wife Dorothy of Wichita, Kansas; Judy E. Johnson of Hesperia, California; Richard G. Wiseman of Anaheim, California and Sandra Salibury of Idlewild, California, and a host of other family and friends. Dian had many talents including needlepoint, embroidery, crocheting, and sewing. She also enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and most recently, water color painting. Dian was an avid bowler in her earlier years. She was small but mighty and was a woman who was not afraid of a wrench. She was a wonderful mother. Dian was a beloved sister who always thought of her siblings first. She didn't have much, but she would share whatever she had with anyone. Dian will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Shirley Ann Beard was born July 13, 1949 in Popular Bluff, MO, one of the three children of Charles Elvie Vermillion and Addie Ruth (Brawley) Vermillion. She left this life to be with the Lord in heaven on August 12, 2014 at the Missouri University Rehabilitation Center in Mount Vernon, MO at the age of 65 years. In 1968 she was united in marriage to James L. Lay II, in St. Louis, MO and to this union one son Billy S. Lay was born. In 1972, Shirley was united in marriage to Robert Lee Struckhoff in Troy, IL and to this union one son Jason Shane Struckhoff was born. Shirley later married Danny Beard in Pocahontas, IL. Shirley was preceded in death by her father Charles Elvie Vermillion, one brother Steve Allen Vermillion and one sister Charlotte Vermillion. She is survived by two sons Billy Shane Lay and wife Theresa of West Plains, MO and Jason Shane Struckhoff of Troy, IL; her mother Ruth Vermillion of Winona, MO; six grandchildren Billy Lay, II of Winona, MO, Brian Lay and wife Ashley of Winona, MO, Shana Lay of Winona, MO, Kiersten Little of West Plains, MO, Xander Lay of West Plains, MO and Jack Struckhoff of Troy, IL; three great grandchildren Harper Lay, Bristol Lay, and Carson Voorhies and a host of other family and friends. Shirley attended school in Winona, MO, Walden, CO, and St. Louis, MO. Shirley operated a babysitting service, and later owned and operated Beard’s Elevator Tavern in Troy, IL. She also worked as a waitress at the Standard Truck Stop in Troy, IL. Shirley moved to Millersburg, IL where she owned and operated Millersburg Gas and Grocery. She lived in Troy and Millersburg, IL for many years before returning to Winona, MO in 2000. After returning to Winona, Shirley worked as waitress at Buck-n-Billy’s in Winona and later worked with her son Billy Lay at his bar Banjo Bill’s. Shirley enjoyed golfing, and being in the outdoors riding horses or 4-wheelers. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas and Tunica. Shirley loved dancing, and she was known for her sense of humor and orneriness. She loved being around her friends and family. Shirley was a wonderful mother, and grandmother. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mary Elizabeth Thomas was born October 29, 1911, at Doniphan, Missouri, the second daughter of Benjamin Daniel and Eliza Ellen (Orchard) Thomas. Her siblings were Vivian, Ruth and Bert. Mary passed away September 29, 2006, at the Kabul Nursing Home in Cabool, Missouri, at the age of 94 years and 11 months. She attended Pig Ankle Sylvan School, in Pig Ankle, Missouri (near Naylor) where she met her future husband, Walter Elders. They were married at Doniphan, Missouri in 1925, and to this union one son, Lewis H. Elders, was born. She later married Victor Beck. Mary and Victor owned and operated a large grocery store in Hammond, Indiana, for more than 25 years before retiring to Florida. They returned to Missouri about 1974 to be closer to family. Mary was a excellent seamstress and sewed for the public while in Florida, and in the nursing home for some of the residents until her health failed and she was no longer able. Her real passion was quilting; she loved selecting colors and patterns and creating beautiful hand pieced quilt tops which she enjoyed giving to family and friends. She also sold custom ordered quilts. Mary accepted Christ as her savior and was baptized in 1926. She was a member of the First Baptist Church at Cabool, Missouri, at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, both husbands, Walter Elders and Victor Beck, sons Lewis H. and Timothy Elders; granddaughter Elizabeth Dilday and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Elders. She is survived by daughter-in-law, Mildred Elders, Summersville, Missouri; granddaughter, Susan Cusley and special friend Frank, of Gary, Indiana: grandson James Elders and wife Ivy, of Hennessey, Oklahoma; grandson-in-law, Jerry Dilday of Mount Prospect, Illinois; great-grandchildren Jeremy Elders of Aurora, Illinois, Brian Cushley of Medinah, Indiana; Michelle Dilday and Cody Dilday of Mount Prospect, Illinois; Jamie Gasser and husband David, of Dexter, Missouri; Jenebe Elders of Hennessey, Oklahoma; Timothy I. Teresa Lynn Fox was born June 13, 1955 at St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Dalton Donald Fox and Jerry Anne (Reed) Fox. She departed this life on September 7, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View, Missouri at the age of 54 years. Terri was united in marriage to Bruce Larkin in 1974 and to this union one son, Brent, was born. She later married Dennis Huff and to this union was born two children, Jeired Nathan Rachel Denise Huff. Terri was preceded in death by her father Dalton Fox when she was three years old. Her mother later married Elmer Black, who raised her as his own from the time she was six years old. Her mother and stepfather also preceded her in death. Terri is survived by her sons Brent Larkin of Washington State and Jeired Huff of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; one daughter Rachel Huff of Fremont, Missouri; one granddaughter Alixandrea Andress; one brother John 'Clint' Black of Van Buren, Missouri; and a host of family and friends. Terri spent her childhood in Fremont, Missouri and Uravan, Colorado. She graduated high school at Van Buren, Missouri in 1973 and later graduated from Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff. She was employed with Missouri Employers Mutual at the State Department. Terri enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, hunting, back roading and listening to music. She especially loved spending time with her only grandchild Allie, who was truly a ray of sunshine in her life. Graveside services were conducted on Friday, September 11, 2009 at Freeman Cemetery at Fremont, Missouri with Rev. Garry Reagan officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home of Winona.

Thomas Milton 'Tom' Becker, of Winona, Missouri, passed away in St Louis County, Missouri on Sunday, Sept. 4,1988. He was born Jul. 25, 1918 in Franklin County, Ohio, the son of Carl Leo Becker and Marie Elizabeth Brown Sheffield. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother John Richard Becker; sister-in-law Delores Bettlach Becker, and brother-in-law Charles Herbert Davis. Surviving are his wife, Louise E. Walrond Becker, children Judy Carston and husband Mike, and Jim Becker and wife Ruth Ann; sisters Leah G. Davis and Mary Jane Enterman, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Tom was a member of Tuscan Lodge #360 A.F. &A.M., Royal Patron of Queen Wilhelmina Ct., #9, Order of the Amarant hand Ass't. Patron of Magnolia Chapter #56 O.E.S. of Birch Tree,Missouri. No services held. In lieu of flowers the family requested contributions in Tom's memory to a charity of your choice. Burial was in Valhalla Cemetery, Bel Nor, St Louis, Missouri. Linda Sue Sconce Beland - age 49, Bonaire, Georgia, joined the Lord on May 23, 2010 at a local hospital. A Memorial Gathering will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home. Graveside interment will be held in Eminence, Missouri, at a later date. Linda was born November 13, 1960 in Rolla, Missouri to Barbara Mabrey Sconce and Duane Sconce. She married David Beland February 18, 1994 in Saint Charles, Missouri. Linda was baptized in 1975 at O'Fallon, Missouri Baptist Church. One of her proudest accomplishments in life was graduation from Eastern Missouri Police Academy in Montgomery City, Missouri. Survivors include her husband, two daughters Nicole and Jennifer Beland, her parents, four grandchildren, numerous relatives and many, many friends. Virgie Lee Belback, the daughter of Jack Smith and Artie Bell (Gale) Smith, was born September 7, 1924 at Hartshorn, Missouri, and passed away at the Houston House in Houston, Missouri, on Tuesday evening, April 20, 2010, at the age of 85 years, 7 month and 13 days. Virgie was united in marriage to Maeland Belback, and they were blessed with three daughters, Treva, Vada, and Judy. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Artie Smith; husband Maeland Belback; brothers, Carl, Henry 'Johnie', Norman, Charlie and Arvel Smith; sisters, Goldie Beck, Laura Dewitt, Susie Stark and Myretha Morgan. While living at Hartshorn, she attended the Hartshorn Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed gardening, growing and tending flowers, and doing puzzle books. Virgie was a devoted family person, taking care of her parents, and she was always ready to babysit grandchildren, nieces, and nephews whenever needed. Virgie is survived by her three daughters and their families, Treva Stark and Vada Stark and husband David, all of Birch Tree, Missouri, and Judy Gale of Raymondville, Missouri; 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Virgie is also survived by two sisters, Christa Cook of Hartshorn, Missouri and Freda Ark and husband Walter of Ellington, Missouri, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members. Louis Archie Belew, son of William and Julia Belew, was born December 15, 1890, at Summersville, Missouri, and departed this life July 4, 1966, at the Memorial Hospital in Mountain View, Missouri, making his age at the time of death 75 years, 5 months, and 19 days. He was united in marriage to Bertha Knowlin on November 2, 1919, and to this union five children were born. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, one sister and two children, Paul and Pauline. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Bertha; three daughters and sons-in-law, Edna and Lewis Shugard, and Berdina and Harold Finley, all of Morton, Illinois, and Bernice and Paul Westall, of Elmwood, Illinois; five grandchildren, Charlotte and Don Heck, Kay and Brenda Finley, Debbie and Dennis Westall, all of Illinois; six brothers and two sisters, Albert, Ed, and John, all of Summersville, Missouri; Harrison, of Kalispell, Montana; Julius, of Norfork, Nebraska; George of Hartshorn, Missouri; Eura Wilcox, also of Hartshorn and Grace Lambeth, Licking, Missouri; two half-sisters, Ethyl Smith and Pearl Neagles of Summersville; two half-brothers, Roy, of Goodland, Kansas, and Jesse of Summersville; one stepbrother, Ira Young of Summersville, and a host of other relatives and friends whom he cherished very much. He was a veteran of World War I. He became a Christian 35 years ago and has sought to please his Lord these many years. ~ CRASH FATAL FOR ARROLL MAN - A 75-year-old resident of Arroll, Archie Louis Belew, died Monday of injuries received Saturday in an auto accident at the junction of Highway 60 and Howell County Y in Mountain View. Three persons were hurt in the crash which claimed the life of Mr. Belew. Taken to St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View were the victim's wife, Berta Helen, 77, who suffered shoulder bruises; Winfield Lee Marshall, 59, Ashland, Ky., who received left arm bruises, and his wife, Faye, 55, treated for a left hand laceration and forehead bruises. Patrol Sgt. J. B. Busch said Mr. Belew was northbound when he failed to stop at the Junction with U.S. 60 and pulled into the path of a 1965 Buick driven east by Marshall. The accident occurred at 11 a. m. Saturday, and Belew succumbed at 10:55 a. m. Monday in the Mountain View Hospital. Wave Audrey Light, daughter of Charles Edward Light and Nona Floral Pitts Light was born June 17, 1919 in Summersville, Missouri. She passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View, Missouri, May 9, 2007 at the age of 87 years, 10 months and 22 days. Wave married Lloyd Ralph Belew, February 14, 1939 at Houston, Missouri; to this union one daughter, Marilyn, was born. Wave worked on the farm with Lloyd for many years. She also worked at Brown Shoe Company and finally retired from Angelica Uniform Company in Summersville. Wave loved working in her garden raising vegetables and spending time in her flower gardens. Many warm afternoons were spent sitting on her porch watching her blue birds, doves and hummingbirds and talking on the phone to her friends. Wave is preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, her father and mother, Charles and Nona Light, one sister Mabel Shafer, and a son-in-law, Dean Stark. She is survived by her daughter Marilyn Lampone and husband Steve of Hartshorn, Missouri; one grandson Steven Stark of Summersville, Missouri; two step-grandchildren, Steven and Stacy Lampone of Lakeland, Florida; two step great-grandchildren, Marjie Lampone and Phoenix Lampone of Lakeland, Florida. Beulah Brawley Bell, 92, resident of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, passed from this life on June 17, 2014 at the Blackwell Regional Hospital. Beulah was born in Oregon County, Missouri on October 23, 1921 to Arvil and Elsa (Stotler) Brawley. Beulah attended country school in Alton, Missouri and her family moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma in 1928. On September 13, 1940, Beulah married Charles D. Bell, Sr. in Pawnee, Oklahoma. Their early years of marriage were spent in Blackwell and Charles worked for the Blackwell Zinc Company. In 1949, they purchased a farm west of Tonkawa and moved their family there. Charles continued to work for the Blackwell Zinc Company until his retirement in 1973, retiring due to ill health. Beulah was a housewife and mother to Norma, Phyllis, Phillip and Donnie. In October of 1973 they lost their home to a flood, and moved into Tonkawa. Beulah was a past member of the Eastern Star in Tonkawa, and after the death of her husband, she began going to the Tonkawa Nutrition Center where she volunteered to help serve meals and made many lasting friendships. She attended the Church of Christ in Tonkawa. She was known to be a great cook and served some wonderful meals to her family and to friends. Beulah is survived by her children, Norma Buffalow and her husband, Don of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, Phyllis K. Smith and her husband, Phil of Krebs, Oklahoma, Phillip R. Bell and his wife, Clarice of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a brother, Herbert Brawley of Rockhall, Maryland; six grandsons, Mark VanBlaricom of Canadian, Oklahoma, Dale VanBlaricom of Krebs, Oklahoma, David VanBlaricom of Panama City, Florida, Daniel Smith of Wichita, Kansas, Terry Bell and Phillip Bell, Jr. of California; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Charles in 1998; her youngest son Charles Donald Bell, Jr, in 1964; her parents; a sister, Eula Bettis of Alton, Missouri; and a brother, Hubert Brawley of Missouri. Carol Sue Rightnowar Bell, the daughter of Gerald Gordon and Rhoda Faye Sullivan Rightnowar, was born at St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View, Missouri, November 16, 1955 and passed away near her home Tuesday, November 23, 2009, at the age of 54 years and 8 days. Carol was united in marriage to Daryl Dewayne Bell, November 24, 1979, and to their union two children were born, Bradley Gordon and Emily Susan. Carol became a Christian early in life and attended Fundamental Bible Baptist Church for several years. Carol enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, and four-wheeling with her husband Daryl and shopping with her daughters, but she enjoyed most of all spending time with her granddaughters. She is preceded in death by one sister, Marilyn Rightnowar, one infant brother and father-in-law, Charles Bell. Carol is survived by her husband, Daryl, of the home; son, Brad and wife, Becky; daughter, Emily and husband, Rob; three granddaughters, Kaylea, Audrey, and Allisyn; her father, Gerald, and mother, Rhoda, all of the Summersville area; one brother, Arnold, Willow Springs, Missouri; her mother-in-law, Ruby Bell, Summersville, Missouri; and a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews. Services were held Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Chester Webster officiating. Interment was in Bethel Cemetery under the care of Bradford Funeral Home.

Charles Edmond Bell, son of Emmett B. Bell and Eva Pitts Bell, was born March 18, 1931 at Summersville, Missouri and left this earthly home and went to be in his heavenly home, Saturday, February 10, 2007 at the age of 75 years. Charles was united in marriage to Ruby Lea Williams, June 1, 1952, making their union together 54 years. They were blessed with eight children, Randy C., Daryl D., Mike A, Brenda S., Lisa L., Karen A., and a baby boy and baby girl deceased at birth. Charles was a member of the Faith Baptist Church, in Summersville, Missouri. He worked at many jobs. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He was always good for a story, especially a 'tall tale'. Preceding Charles in death are his parents, Emmett and Eva Bell, a baby boy and baby daughter, two brothers, Norman and Robert Lee Bell. Surviving are his wife Ruby Lea of the home, Randy C. Bell and wife Marilyn of Monett, Missouri; Daryl D. Bell and wife Carol of Summersville, Missouri; Mike A. Bell and wife Laura of Summersville, Missouri; Brenda Bell of Houston, Missouri; Lisa Armstrong and husband of Summersville, Missouri; Karen Holloway and husband Ronnie of Winona, Missouri; 2 sisters, Bonnie Smith and Evelyn Gruben, both of Summersville, Missouri; 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Services were held Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at 1 PM at Faith Baptist Church in Summersville with Rev. Hubert Newman and Rev. Rick Spacek officiating. Interment was in Bethel Cemetery under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home.

Freida Lorene Warren was born April 6, 1919 at Timber, Missouri, the daughter of Walter and Alice Warren, and departed this life April 29, 1996 at her home in Pacific, Missouri at the age of 77 years. She was united in marriage to William 'Doll' Bell Sept. 28, 1935 and to this union three children were born. Those preceding her in death were her husband William Bell, her parents Walter and Alice Warren; four brothers, Laurel, Calvin, Amos, and Lindell Warren; four sisters: Thela Vale, Audrey, Bernetta and Wanda Warren. She leaves to mourn her passing one son, Lee Bell and wife Marie of St. Louis, Missouri, and two daughters: Deloris White and husband Elmo of St. Louis, Missouri, and Merileen Allen and husband Charlie of Pacific, Missouri; three grandsons: David and Darrell White, both of St. Louis, Missouri, and Michael Gilliland of Pacific, Missouri; four great-grandchildren: Laura White of Atlanta, Georgia, Kelli, David, and Sean Gilliland of Pacific, Missouri; two sisters: Hazel Hare of St. Louis, Missouri; Dorothy Lyerla of Dillmer, Missouri; two brothers: Ansel Warren of Chickasha, Oklahoma, and Funston 'Spud' Warren of Fenton, Missouri; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and a dear old friend Maggie Camden of Boss, Missouri, who will miss her deeply. Nathasha Nicole Bell-Holloway was born November 8, 1985 at Mountain View, Missouri, the daughter of Ronnie and Karen Bell Holloway. She passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at the age of 21 years, 5 months, and 6 days. Natasha graduated from Winona High School in 2004. At the time of her death, she was a Junior at Southwest Baptist University in Mountain View, Missouri majoring in Elementary Education. Natasha was gifted with an over abundance of patience and a great love for small children. Natasha was a member of the House of Prayer Church in Winona, Missouri, where she was very active in teaching Sunday school and Youth classes. Natasha always had a smile on her face and arms opened for a hug. She loved her family and her pets, especially her dog, Max. She was always willing to help anyone she came in contact with. Natasha was preceded in death by her grandfather, Charles Bell on February 10, 2007, and her great grandfather, George Brewer. William P. Bell passed away Sunday, Jan 12 in his 82nd year. He was born on April 28, 1909, in Winona, Missouri, to Hulbert and Annie Elizabeth (Vassalli) Bell. He is survived by his wife, Freida Warren Bell; two daughters Deloris White and her husband Elmo of St. Louis, Missouri, and Merileen Allen and her husband Charlie of Villa Ridge, Missouri; one son Lee Bell and his wife Marie of St. Louis; two sisters, Creado Hunt of West Plains, Missouri, and Jannie Bell of West  Plains, Missouri; three grandchildren; David White, Darrel White, and Michael Gilliland; four great-grandchildren; Laura White and Kellie, David, and Sean Gilliland. He is preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Hulbert, Vick, Pat, Pete, and John Bell; one sister, Selma Marie. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 1 pm at Bell Funeral Home Chapel in Pacific, Missouri, with the Rev. Archie Lunsford and the Rev. Noel Meade officiating. Mildred Hall Norris was born July 22, 1919, to Cliff and Maggie Norris at Hartshorn, Missouri. She went home to be with the Lord, August 14, 2009 at the age of 90 years and 23 days. On June 26, 1936, she was united in marriage to Silven Hall, and to this union three children were born, Imogene, Ruby, and Kenneth. Silven passed away in 1976 and she later married Leo Bennett, who also preceded her in death. She attended First Assembly of God Church in St. Charles, Missouri, when she was able. In her younger years, she attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Summersville, Missouri. For many years, she worked at the Angelica Uniform Factory in Summersville, where she was a sewing machine operator and a supervisor. She was still working and caring for the elderly in St. Charles at age 85. Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, Cliff and Maggie; husbands, Silven Hall and Leo Bennett; four brothers: Sylvan, Zolan, Cryil and Lorin Norris; and one sister, Verna Stewart. She is survived by her three children, Imogene Crider, Ruby Tune and Kenneth Hall, all of the St. Charles, Missouri, area; two sons-in-law, Bob Crider and Charlie Tune; four grandchildren: Bryan and Jill Tune, Darrin and Fay Tune, Gina and Vince Jones, Rob and Heather Crider; six great- grandchildren: Trevor, Ryan and Cooper Tune, Robbie and Emily Crider, and Dalton Jones. She was 1 of 8 children and is survived by two sisters, Pauline Odom, of Summersville, Missouri, and Ethel Atchison, of St. John, Missouri, and one sister-in-law, Mary Norris, of Summersville. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held Sunday, August 16, 2009 at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Gary Steelman officiating. Interment was in Antioch Cemetery under the care of Bradford Funeral Home of Summersville, Missouri.

Pauline Ellouise Ward, age 93, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at the Frene Valley Home in Hermann, Missouri. Pauline was born July 7, 1910 in Eminence, Missouri. She was the daughter of the late Elmer Jackson and Olive Emily Ward, and was the second oldest of six children: three brothers; Richard Elmer Ward, John Chilton Ward, Robert Lee Ward; two sisters, Madeline Faye Baltz and Violet Frances Gates Clark. All of her siblings are deceased. Pauline and William Avery Benton were married October 6, 1928 in Ava, Missouri. Her husband preceded her in death. Survivors include three daughters; Marlane Benton Adams, Judith Benton-Klinger and her husband John, Janet Benton Propp and her husband Dale; son, James Avery Benton and step-son William Max Benton. She is so greatly loved and survived by 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. During her years of marriage to William Avery Benton Adams, they moved over 100 times to many states and cities. She was always a willing and supportive partner. She loved to reminisce about the many interesting places they had lived. She never had any regrets about their life-style experiences. She was a devoted mother, always making an immaculate home with delicious food, welcome to all. She encouraged her children to participate in music, scouts and sports. Her grandchildren received this same love and devotion. Pauline was a lifelong member of Eminence Methodist Church at Eminence, Missouri. She read her Bible daily, loved reading poetry and was a word-smith and a lover of well turned phrases, which is attested in her scrapbook that is filled with clippings of beautiful phrases and articles. Pauline, at age 92, was chosen by Frene Valley Center as their contestant to represent them in a pageant in St. Louis, Missouri, the Missouri Healthcare Association's event, 'Nursing Home Beauty is Ageless.' Entrants were from nursing homes throughout Missouri. Frene Valley's staff said they selected Pauline because of her inner beauty as well as her outward beauty, and also for her gracious manners, sweet disposition and her wonderful sense of humor. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 27 at Duncan Funeral Home in Eminence. Visitation for family was from 10 to 10:30 a.m., visitors from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., and service at 11:30 a.m. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Mark Drewel, Tom Lynch, Glen Adams, Kevin Graham, Greg Eck, Donald Benton and Bill Benton. Rev. James Doyle officiated. Paul Faulkenberry was organist and soloist. Burial was at New Eminence Cemetery. Donations may be made in memory of Pauline to Eminence Methodist Church.

Beulah Mae Farris Berry was born January 20, 1916 to George W. Farris and Hannah Almeda Washburn Farris. She was united in marriage to Delbert 'Goose' Berry on September 9, 1933 at Shannon County, MO and to this union six children were born: Ruby, Fern, Melvin, Geneva, Donna and Shirley. Beulah was preceded in death by her parents George and Hannah Farris; her husband Delbert; three brothers Chester Parcel, Ed Farris, and Otis Farris; two sisters Velma Billings and Imogene 'Jean' Williams; one son Melvin Berry; one grandson Dennis Brawley; and one granddaughter Lisa Reese. She is survived by five children Ruby Martin of Ellington, MO, Fern Goodwin and husband Gene of Winona, MO, Geneva Brawley of Winona, MO, Donna Norton and husband Donnie of Winona, MO, Shirley Meade and husband Sonny of Winona, MO; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces and many friends. Always surrounded by her family and friends, Beulah led a very loved and fulfilling life, and she never met a stranger. She was employed at Paramount Apparel in Winona for many years and worked for the Forest Service for a few years.  Beulah was know most for her caring and giving personality and always lifting everyone up in prayer. She became a member of the Fremont Church of God of Prophecy in 1954 and transferred her membership to the Winona Church of God of Prophecy on June 17, 1958. She attended church faithfully until her health held her at home. She served her Lord and Savior with a very humble spirit, setting a wonderful example for her children and those around her. For many years she served in the church as Pastor Booster Fundraiser making donuts and selling candy. Beulah touch many hearts and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Mother, your spirit has been set free from the body that held you here on earth. We’ll miss you so much, but you have left behind such an example of how to live for God that we surely cannot miss our heavenly goal. Be looking for us to cross the river someday to be with you and our Lord for eternity. Interment Pine Lawn Cemetery, Winona, Missouri.

Melvin Marshall Berry was born at Fremont, MO on February 16, 1939, the son of Delbert Marshall Berry and Beulah (Farris) Berry. Melvin passed from this life on August 18, 2015 at his home in Winona, MO at the age of 76 years and 6 months. Melvin attended school at Fremont and had vivid memories of picking cotton in the Bootheel. Another event that stayed clear in his memory was the 1957 tornado that almost destroyed his home town and did destroy the family’s home with Melvin in it. After the storm the family moved to Winona where he spent most of his life. On October 30, 1970, Melvin was united in marriage to Margie Alene Rector. This union was blessed with one daughter Lisa Marshann, this made his family complete. Melvin brought three other children to this family unit, two sons and one daughter. Melvin was preceded in death by his father Delbert Marshall Berry; two grandmothers; four brother-in-laws; and one nephew. His survivors include his wife Margie of 45 years of Winona, MO; two sons Marlon Dean Berry of Washington state and Robert Lynn Berry and wife Debra Faye (Brawley) of Winona, MO; two daughters Pattie Charlene (Berry) Baker of Springfield, MO and Lisa Marshann (Berry) and husband David Reese of Winona, MO; his mother Beulah Berry of Winona, MO; five sisters Ruby Martin of Ellington, MO, Fern (Berry) and husband Gene Goodwin of Winona, MO, Geneva Brawley of Winona, MO, Donna (Berry) and husband Donnie Norton of Winona, MO, and Shirley (Berry) and husband Lloyd Meade of Winona, MO; 14 grandchildren; 3 great granddaughters; several nieces, nephews; and a host of friends. Melvin enjoyed playing music, hunting and fishing, and time spent with his family and especially those three little great granddaughters. Melvin was a hard worker and enjoyed working until his health forced him to slow down. He was saddled with several nicknames Chief, Gosslin, Light Foot and was best known by his friends as Horsefly. Melvin is at rest in the arms of his Lord and Savior. His passing will forever leave a vacancy in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Interment Mount Zion Cemetery.

Franklin Lee Best was born January 13, 1932 at Eminence, Missouri, the son of Earl Stearling Best and Rose Emma Wilkie Best. He passed away Thursday, April 27, 2012 at Mercy St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View, Missouri, at the age of 80 years. He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Rose Best; one sister Edna Best; brother Earl Best, Jr., and half-brothers, Archie Elmo Lockman and Andrew Lockman. Frank is survived by one son Randy Best and wife Mary of Winona, Missouri; 1 grandchild Christy Boyer and Jason of Winona, Missouri; 3 great-grandchildren Randy, Ryan and James Boyer, all of Winona, Missouri; and a host of other family and friends. He liked to race cars and drive fast, but most of all he loved spending time with family and friends. Frank will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation was on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Winona, Missouri. Funeral services followed with Pastor Sharon Barton officiating. Interment was in Pine Lawn Cemetery in Winona, Missouri, under the direction of Duncan Funeral Homes.

Irene Thomas Williams Best was born November 8, 1909 at Suttons Creek near Eminence, Missouri, the daughter of Joseph M. 'Joe' Thomas and Margaret 'Eveline' Burns Thomas. Irene departed this life on January 25, 1991 in the Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Missouri, at the age of 81 years, 2 months and 18 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, three sisters, two daughters, two sons and three grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Arline Potts of Winona, Missouri; two sons, James 'Dale' Williams and Irby Gene Williams, both of Eminence, Missouri; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Irene was saved at a very early age in the Assembly of God Church. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 28, 1991 in the Duncan Funeral Chapel at Eminence with Rev. Bud Younger officiating. Burial was in the Bethany Chapel Cemetery under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home of Eminence.

Arthur Bettis, was born Apr. 26, 1949, in Oregon County, MO. He was the son of Arthur Bettis, Sr., and Helen B. Sisco Bettis. He died Nov. 15, 2008. He is survived by: one son; Brian Bettis, two grandchildren; four brothers, Freddie, Phil, Ed and Robert Bettis; five sisters Tresa Bettis, May Owings, Jane Bettis, Martha Buckner and Ann Brawley; and numerous other relatives and friends. Services were held Nov. 18 in the Clary Chapel with J.R. Andrews officiating. Burial will be in the Bailey Cemetery under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Alton, MO.

Arthur Bettis, Jr., age 59, Alton, Missouri, died in a one vehicle accident at 2:45 a.m. Saturday on Highway 19, five miles north of Alton, Oregon County, Missouri, according to Troop G of the Missouri Highway Patrol, Willow Springs. Trooper D. B. Pounds reported Bettis was thrown from his northbound 1998 Toyota truck when it ran off the road and overturned. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Oregon County Coroner Tom Clary. He was not wearing a seatbelt, the patrol added.

Dorvan Ray Bilbrey, son of Charles High Bilbrey and Viola Catherine Barnett, was born at Summersville, Missouri, on March 21, 1931, and passed away at the Gainesville Health Care Center on Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at the age of 76 years, 9 months, and 13 days. Dorvan was united in marriage to Betty Joe Hurt November 13, 1954, and to this union two children were born: Debra Jean and Teresa Ann. Dorvan served in the U.S. Marines from April 30, 1952 thru March 23, 1954. He enjoyed jeepin', spending time at Cloud 9 Ranch, camping, being outdoors, and playing with his grandkids. Preceding him in death are his father, Charles High Bilbrey; his mother, Viola C. Bilbrey; brothers, Alfred and Elmer; and sisters, Edna and Virgie. Surviving are his wife, Betty, of the home in Gainesville, Missouri; daughters Debbie Lawson and husband, Thomas, of Gainesville, Missouri; Teresa Douglas and husband, Terry, of Spokane, Washington; four granddaughters, Shelley Tharp, Elizabeth Lawson, Amy Owens (Matt), and Haley Lawson; two grandsons, David Tharp and Jared Douglas (Tiffany). He is also survived by four great-granddaughters, Calli and Alexis Titsworth, Teighlyr Douglas, and Caitlyn Shafer; and three sisters; Faye Bilbrey, Vona King and Idella Pitts of the Summersville area. Dorvan is also survived by his cat, Tabby, whom he loved very much. Services were held Friday, December 7, 2007 at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel in Summersville with Terry Douglas officiating. Interment with Military honors was at Summersville City Cemetery under the care of Bradford Funeral Home.

Almeda Faye Bilbrey, daughter of the late Charley and Viola (Barnett) Bilbrey, was born October 9, 1925 in Summersville, Missouri, and passed away at the Mountain View Health Care in Mountain View, Missouri, Wednesday morning, October 29, 2008, at the age of 83 years, 20 days. Faye worked in Springfield, Missouri during her twenties, and then at Angelica Uniform Factory in Summersville, Missouri. For many years Faye and her mother lived in the Summersville Senior Housing, where she took care of her mother until Viola passed away. She accepted Christ as her Savior several years ago. She loved going to church at the First Church of God in Summersville. Preceding her in death are her parents, Charley and Viola Bilbrey, and three brothers, Elmer, Alfred, and Dorvan Bilbrey; two sisters, Virgie Hartwein, and Edna Wilcox. She is survived by her sisters, Idella Pitts and Vona King, both of Summersville, Missouri; two nieces; nine nephews; and a host of relatives and friends. Services were held Friday October 31, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Bradford’s Chapel in Summersville with Rev. Alva Trowbridge officiating. Interment was in Barnett Cemetery under the care of Bradford Funeral Home of Summersville.

Marjorie Wave 'Dee Dee' Powell Bilyeu was born July 18, 1924 at her family’s farm on Sutton’s Creek in Shannon County, Missouri. On September 15, 2017 (her 71st wedding anniversary), she passed away peacefully in her sleep at Riverways Manor in Van Buren, MO. Wave was the youngest child of William Robert 'Willie' Powell and Edith Victoria 'Sissy' Corder. She grew up in Shannon County and attended Sutton’s Creek school. She was in her teens when World War II began and she eagerly moved to the city to work in war factories. She moved around wherever she could find work, living with family or friends in St Louis, Kansas City and Granite City, Illinois. She had many friends who went away to fight or work to help in the war effort. She kept up with all of them and formed an extensive group of pen pals. She kept scrapbooks of cartoons, war stories, and photographs of all the places her friends had traveled. She loved to go out dancing and on picnics, to go to the zoo and skating, and she loved family gatherings. She fell in love a few times, but was captivated by a young sailor named Warren Bilyeu. Soon after he was discharged from the Navy, they were married on September 15, 1946 at the Eminence Methodist Church. They settled in Madison, Illinois, and had one son, Robert 'Bobby' Bilyeu. In the 1950s they moved to the Kansas City area where Warren worked in union construction. Wave worked in retail shops and later owned and operated a snack bar in a Raytown bowling alley. She and Warren were avid bowlers, had barbeques and parties with a wide circle of friends. They were very involved in the activities they supported with Ivanhoe United Church of Christ in Raytown and in Masonic lodge events. They took great pride in maintaining comfortable homes and both worked hard to keep immaculate yards and gardens. Wave was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed cooking, crocheting, sewing. One of her hobbies was collecting postcards. When Warren retired, they moved to Eminence and bought a house just across the street from where they were married. Warren died in 1980 and Wave went back to work at the Angelica factory in Eminence. After her retirement she moved back to Independence to be closer to her son and her friends. The past few years, she continued to live alone in her home, but she received a great deal of assistance with day-to-day tasks from a special friend and neighbor (Othello 'Mac' McDavitt) and from her nephew and his wife (David Arthur and Joan Dix). In early 2017, her health deteriorated and she could no longer live alone. Her family relocated her to the Riverways Manor at Van Buren, Missouri, to be closer to family and friends. The staff of this facility provided her with excellent and loving care in her final days. For most of her life, Wave had a very large family. She was preceded in death by her son 'Bobby', her husband Warren, her parents, and five siblings, William G 'Billy' Powell, David L Powell, Donald E Powell, Eulah Powell Hasty Freeman, Jewell Powell Dix Denton Burgess, a step-brother, Jesse Laxton, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Wave is survived by her immediate family members; a niece Ruth Ernestine Powell Lee of Georgia; a nephew Allen Lee Powell of Wyoming, and one grandson. She also leaves numerous great nephews, great nieces, cousins, and extended family members from her and Warren’s families, as well as several close friends who are left to remember her love and kindness, her devotion to family, and her lively manner. Robert Warren Bilyeu, son of Warren K. and Wave Powell Bilyeu, was born May 21, 1948 in Granite City, Illinois. He departed this life on Sept. 14, 2009 at the age of 61 years, 3 months and 13 days at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, with interment in Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas. Robert lived in the Kansas City area most of his life. He attended and graduated from Raytown High School in 1966, then went on to college for a brief period of time in Tarkio, Missouri, while there he received his draft call and joined the US Navy. After his tour of duty in the Navy he joined the Air Force Reserve where he became a Staff Sergeant. He served there for several years. While en route to a reserve meeting he was in a severe accident, resulting in the loss of a leg and spent months in recuperation. During Robert's service to our country he traveled to many places around the world. He was always a willing servant to his fellowman, trying to help the downtrodden. His first wish was to be an ordained minister, however, he found that his service was not to be from the pulpit but in the daily tasks of life. Robert was married three times during his life. His last wife brought to the marriage children that he called his own. He had one son, Todd, from a previous marriage, but had little contact with him. He was preceded in death by his father, and most of his elders. He is survived by his mother, Wave, of Independence, Missouri, an ex-wife, Sue and his stepchildren as well as a special 'daughter of the heart', April, an aunt, Jewell Burgess of Eminence, a great aunt Ronie Harrison of Granite City, IL and many cousins.

Christina Lucille Banks, daughter of James Kenneth Banks and Olean Ellen Barton was born October 27, 1965 at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis Missouri, and passed away at her home in Summersville on January 13, 2006, at age 40 years and 2 months. She was united in marriage to William Archie ‘Buddy’ Bird on January 14, 1984, making their union together a day less than 22 years. To this union two children were born, Justin Kenneth Bird and Amelia Christine Bird. She graduated rom Summersville High School with the class of 1984. She worked at the Community Bank NA in Summersville as a loan officer for 18 years. She had completed numerous education courses during her employment. Christina attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Summersville. She enjoyed horseback riding, painting and artistry. Since childhood she competed in horse shows and won numerous trophies and awards. She enjoyed deer hunting with her husband Buddy and her son Justin. Christina is preceded in death by her paternal grandfather James Earl Banks and her maternal grandparents, Robert Lincoln and Tona Alma Harrison Barton. Those who mourn her passing are her husband, Buddy Bird of the home in Summersville; children, Justin Bird and wife Courtney, Summersville; Amelia Bird, of the home; parents, Kenny and Olean Banks, Mountain View; father and mother-in- law, Willie and Patsy Bird, Mountain View; grandmother, Mrs. Hazel Banks, Summersville; brother James Robert Banks, Summersville; sister Joyce Ann and husband Allen and their children, Fawna, Jason and Trevor Sullivan, West Plains; sisters-in-law Teresa Thomure and husband Jeff, and Sharon Patton and husband Kevin, all of Summersville; four nieces and one nephew. Christina will be sadly missed by her family, friends and the community. Services were held on Sunday, January 22, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel in Summersville with Rev. Robert Medley officiating. Halla Berniece 'Hallie' Miley was born January 25, 1891 in Shannon County, Missouri and passed away September 27, 1985 at the Birch View Manor in Birch Tree, Missouri at the age of ninety four years, eight months and two days. She was the daughter of Wols and Mary Ann Yearwood Miley. She was united in marriage to Harless 'Parm' Bird on April 5, 1929. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Rebecca's. Her family and friends were the most important people in the world. They always came first with her, even ahead of herself. She is survived by her husband, Harless 'Parm' Bird of Pat Henry's Boarding Home in Mountain View, Missouri; two sons, Wayne Miley of Winona, Missouri and Albert Bird of Birch Tree, Missouri; one daughter, Lou Bradley Heidebur of Birch Tree, Missouri; and one sister, Rhoda Ehrhart of Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were two adult children and one infant; two sisters; one grandchild and one great grandchild. Services were held at the United Methodist Church in Birch Tree on Monday, September 30, 1985 with burial  at Oak Forest Cemetery in Birch Tree. She was loved by all who knew her and she will be missed by all of us.

Harless Parmer 'Parm' Bird was born March 30, 1892 at Avery, Missouri. in Benton County and passed away December 24, 1985 at the St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View, Missouri. at the age of 93 years, 8 months, and 24 days. He was the son of McDonald and Elizabeth Schroeder Bird. He was united in marriage to Minnie Lee Layman on December 2, 1924, and to this union two children were born, Lee Bird of Boise, Idaho and Wilma Divine of Mishawaka, Indiana. On April 5, 1929, he was united in marriage to Halla Berniece Miley, and to this union three children were born, Albert Curtis Bird, Lou Ann Bird Bradley Heidebur of Birch Tree, Missouri, and a son who died at birth. 'Parm', as he was known, was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He attended school at Oak Grove with Lona Parker as one of his favorite teachers. He worked at many jobs as a young man, such as farm work, sawmilling and well drilling. He was a good neighbor willing to lend a helping hand to those who needed him for anything. He loved his gardening and shared it with many. He loved nature and was a sportsman at heart who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He took much pride in serving his country in World War I, and lived the war over and over while telling many stories of his adventures during that time which he was wounded and become disabled. He also loved to tell many other interesting stories that occurred during his lifetime. Preceding him in death were his father, mother, wife, one infant son, a devoted daughter-in-law, three sisters, three brothers, two step-children, one step-grandson, and one step great-granddaughter. He is survived by his four children and one loving step-son, Wayne Miley of Winona, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren; and one sister, Ola Mae Price; six step-grandchildren, twelve step-great grandchildren, and three step great-great grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn his passing many loving nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives, friends and neighbors. He will be sadly missed by all who loved and knew him. Our loss is heaven's gain. Funeral services were held Friday, December 27, 1985 in the Methodist Church at Birch Tree at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. John Thomas and Rev. Gene West officiating. Burial was at Oak Forest Cemetery under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home of Birch Tree.

William A. 'Willie' Bird, son of Archie Bird and Alva Roark Bird was born February 3, 1941 at Arroll, Missouri, and passed away at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, Missouri, on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at the age of 65 years, 11 months, and 20 days. Willie married Patsy King on October 21, 1961; they were together for 45 years. To their union three children were born, Teresa, Buddy, and Sharon. Willie was a member of the First Christian Church of Summersville and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He adored spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Willie was an avid deer hunter and he liked going elk hunting in the mountains of Colorado. He treasured the hours spent watching hunting movies with his family and talking about his own hunting adventures. Willie enjoyed baling hay, with his wife always at his side. Willie was a generous man who always enjoyed a hug from his family and his many special friends. Preceding him in death were his parents Archie and Alva Bird and daughter-in-law, Christina Bird. Surviving are his wife, Patsy Bird; daughter, Teresa Thomure and husband, Jeff; son, Buddy Bird and wife, Pam; daughter, Sharon Patton and husband, Kevin; sister, Ida Mae Sweet; brother, Alvin Bird and wife Sue; brother-in-law Ronnie King and wife Carol; 7 grandchildren- Amanda Michel and husband, Scott; Ashley Beavers and husband, Charlie; Heather Cooper and husband, Nathan; Justin Bird and wife, Courtney; Amelia Bird; Cory Patton; Marisa Patton; and 3 great grandchildren- Isaac and Dawson Beavers; Hailey Michel; also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and many friends. Willie will be sadly missed by those who knew him. Funeral Services were held Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel in Summersville with Rev. Paul Hamm officiating. Ollie Mae Cooley Birge was born Oct. 1898, in Shannon County, Missouri, the daughter of Barney Roark Cooley and Mary Potter Cooley. She died Feb. 22, 1949 in the state of New Mexico. Ollie married Eli James Birge on Feb. 2, 1914, at Eminence, Missouri. James was the son of William Lankford Birge and Nancy Melvina Bailey Cooper; he preceded her in death on Sep. 10, 1963, and is buried in Grand Junction, Mesa, Colorado. Ollie and Eli's children were Mildred L., Goldie M., Genevieve and Leroy and Billie Birge. She is buried at Oakside Cemetery in Summersville, Missouri, along with her two sons, Leroy Birge (born 1921; died May 1940, in Texas County, Missouri; and Billie E. Birge, (born 1928 and died Nov., 1941, in Howell County, Missouri).

Nancy 'Melvina' Cooper was born Dec. 9, 1868, at Tibble, Franklin County, Missouri. She was the daughter of Eli 'Eal' Bailey and Elizabeth Francis (Armistead) Cooper. 'Melviney' as she was called, died Nov. 26, 1958, at Summersville, Missouri. She is buried at Flatrock Cemetery in Shannon County, Missouri. She married William Lankford Birge on 26 Sep 1888. Katy Sue Pierce was born May 5, 1931 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to Fred Houston Pierce and Theora Lessie Evans Pierce. She departed this life on September 12, 1995 at St. John's Mercy Hospital in St Louis, Missouri, at the age of 64. She was first married to Farris Thomas Saad. She later married Clifton Bizelli. Katy is preceded in death by her second husband, Clifton Bizelli; her parents, Fred and Theora; one infant daughter, Christine Marie Saad; three brothers: Leroy J. Pierce, William Pierce and Don Pierce. She is survived by sons Farris Anthony 'Tony' Saad of St. Louis, Missouri, and Demettri George 'Joey' Saad, St. Peters, Missouri; stepson James Bizelli, Festus, Missouri; daughters Mary Katherine 'Kathy' Skiles, St. Peters, Missouri and Janis Ramsey, Eminence, Missouri; stepdaughters Tara Bizelli Chambers, Springfield, Missouri and Becky Bizelli Hurley, Fairview, Missouri; sisters Mary Nelson of Arizona, Audry Christl of Kansas City, Missouri, Ann Ragsdale, Chiefland, Florida and Jane Brown, Springfield, Missouri; and 14 grandchildren. Katy was a member of the Winona Christian Church and always involved in the Winona community and Shannon County. She was a homemaker, and wrote articles for the Current Wave. Jerry Anne Reed was born July 8, 1935 at Winona, Missouri to Guy 'Cat' Reed and Helen Elnora Weaver Reed, one of four children. She departed this life on August 6, 2007 at Fremont, Missouri at the age of 72 years, 29 days. Jerry was united in marriage to Dalton Donald Fox on March 6, 1954 at St. Louis, Missouri. To this union, one daughter, Teresa Lynn Fox, was born. Dalton preceded her in death. She was united in marriage to Elmer Lee Black on June 4, 1960 at Fremont, Missouri. To this union one son, John Clinton Black, was born. Jerry was preceded in death by her father and, Missouri ther; one brother, James Reed; and both husbands. Jerry is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Fox) Beck, Fremont, Missouri; one son, Clint Black, Fremont, Missouri; five grandchildren, Brent Larkin, Jeired and Rachael Huff; and Natasha and Clinton Lee; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Roland Reed, and wife, Arlene, of Winona, Missouri; one sister, Sharon Norris, and husband, Scott, of Winona, Missouri; and numerous relatives and  friends. Jerry was born and raised in the Fremont area where she attended school. She graduated from Fremont High School in 1953 and, Missouri ved to St. Louis, Missouri to work after graduation. Jerry and Elmer, Missouri ved to Colorado in 1961 where she worked as a bookkeeper/accountant for Union Carbide until they returned to the Fremont area in 1971. Jerry was a bus driver for the Van Buren Carter County school district for 30 years until she retired. She and her family operated the Fremont Hotel and Restaurant for several years before it closed. Jerry enjoyed working in her flower garden and sitting on her front porch swing having a glass of tea with a friend. Woodworking was a hobby she loved... 'Give her a new power tool and watch her go.' Jerry also enjoyed singing and playing her piano or harmonica. Helping others was a special gift she possessed and loved to do. She volunteered at the New Life Evangelistic Free Store in Van Buren for several years where she helped at the store in setting up clothing and delivering food to the area residents. She served on the board of directors for the West Carter County Ambulance district for several years representing the residents of West Carter County. Jerry accepted Jesus as her Savior and continued to love him the rest of her life. She attended church at the House of Prayer in Winona, Missouri. Jerry loved her family deeply and was, Missouri st happy when they were close by. Her love was shown by her kind, loving and generous heart. Jerry loved and enjoyed life. Though she met many challenges, she faced them with dignity and determination and she was courageous to the end. Jerry said, 'If you will live every day as though it were your last, you would live it differently.' Jerry was loved deeply by those who knew her and will be greatly missed and remembered for the memories she left behind. Funeral Services were held Thursday, August 9, 2007 at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Winona, Missouri with Archie Taylor officiating. Interment was in the Freeman Cemetery at Fremont, Missouri under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home of Winona, Missouri.

Larry A. Black was born February 10, 1939 in Neosho, Missouri to Gladys Margaret (Barry) and Morrris Melvin Black and passed away December 16, 2013 at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Andrews,father Melvin Black, grandmother Nellie Pruitt, grandfather Lee Pruitt, and stepfather Ernie Andrews. Larry is survived by two daughters, Kim Haill, Eureka, Missouri and Karla Marshall, Jefferson City, Missouri; one son, Raven 'Scotty' Black, St. Clair, Missouri; grandchildren Chelsea Haill, Katelyn Marshall, Samuel Marshall and Christopher Marshall; two great-grandchildren Hailey Zotta-Haill and Bentley Marshall; one great-grandson on the way, Ramsey Marshall, along with a large extended family and many treasured friends. He served in the United States Navy. Larry spent most of his life in Shannon County around Winona, Missouri. He worked for the City of Winona and also as a bus driver for the Winona School District. He was a gifted artist and enjoyed putting together model figures. In his final years he resided at the National Healthcare Nursing Home in West Plains, Missouri where he was known to enjoy his Domino’s pizza and McDonald’s cheeseburgers. He is fondly remembered by the wonderful staff there. A graveside Memorial service was conducted on March 22, 2014, with interment at Mount Zion Cemetery in Winona.

Dennis Ray Blunkall was born June 5, 1957 at Winona, MO the son of Earl Blunkall and June (Culpepper) Blunkall. He passed away October 22, 2016 at Springfield, MO at the age of 59 years. He was united in marriage to Mary VanWinkle on May 6, 1978 at Winona, MO and to this union one son was born. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents Earl and June Blunkall; three brothers Donnie Blunkall, Jerry Blunkall, and Jimmy Blunkall; one sister Wanda Seay; and mother-in-law Effie VanWinkle. He is survived by his wife Mary Blunkall of the home in Winona, MO; one son Jason Blunkall of Winona, MO; one brother Roger Blunkall and wife Pat of Claremore, OK; three sisters Earline Nichols of Claremore, OK, Mary Faye Gowan of Claremore, OK, and Brenda Robertson and husband Stan of Puxico, MO; one sister-in-law Shelly Blunkall of Springfield, MO; two brothers-in-law Harold VanWinkle and wife Linda of Winona, MO and Ricky VanWinkle of Winona, MO; father-in-law Dee VanWinkle of Winona, MO; two grandchildren Sadie Blunkall and William Blunkall of Winona, MO; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins that he dearly loved and liked to tease. Dennis was born and raised in Winona. He was a lifelong truck driver and owned his own truck. He and his beloved wife Mary travelled through every state and into Canada and used their trips to explore the country. For 26 years, he worked with dispatcher and close friend Sherry Bryant. Dennis was a member of the Winona Fire Department for many years. Dennis loved going to local coffee shops and visiting with friends. He was prankster and a joker known for his grey squirrel dance, a river rat who loved taking his big boat out for good times on the Current River, a deer hunter, and a father figure to many in his family. Nephew Gary Nichols wrote of Dennis, “Move over y’all, Uncle Dennis is heading home and he ain’t downshifting! We will all miss you down here.” He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Interment at Turkey Oak Cemetery.

Glen Orville Bockman was born April 14, 1931 in Birch Tree, MO to William and Della Marie (Ball) Bockman. He passed away at home September 17, 2017 in Birch Tree, MO at the age of 86. He was united in marriage to Lois Ludene Trammel on June 26, 1955 at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Birch Tree, MO and to this union five children were born. Glen graduated from the Birch Tree Public School in 1949, and proudly served during the Korean War in the United States Army from September 5, 1949 until August 12, 1951. It would be the only time Glen ever lived away from Birch Tree. After being honorably discharged, he worked many years as a Shelter Insurance agent and Realtor. He served his community on a multitude of boards. He was a 32nd degree Mason of the Birch Tree Lodge, a Shriner, and a member of Gideons International. His deep Christian faith led him to serve as a deacon and trustee for the First Baptist Church and Oak Grove Baptist Church. Glen was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish in the area rivers and lakes. Glen was a very mild mannered gentleman; slow to speak, slow to anger, and always smiling. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Marie Bockman; his brother, Billy Hugh Bockman; and his sister, Betty Lou Bockman. Glen is survived by Lois, his loving wife of 62 years, five children; Jeffrey Bockman and wife Suzanne of Birch Tree, MO, Tina Asplin and husband Bruce of Birch Tree, MO, Lisa Bockman-Arata and husband John of Rolla, MO, Brian Bockman of New Orleans, LA, and Marshall Bockman and wife Kathryn of Bonne Terre, MO, six grandchildren; Skyler Bockman and wife Michelle, Judge Bockman and fiancé Kathryn, McKenna Bockman and fiancé Jacob, Justin Asplin and wife Jennifer, Meagan Kile and husband Matt, and Grant Bockman, six great grandchildren; Harper and Hattie Bockman, Cloey and Grady Asplin, and Sophie and Sadie Kile; and one brother Jim Bockman and wife Mae Ruth of Mountain Home, AR. Jacqueline Lynn Loring Bockman was born at Eminence, Missouri, on Aug. 1, 1935, the daughter of Charles Loring and Virginia Johnston. She passed away in Augusta, Georgia, on Jul. 17, 2015, at the age of 79. Jackie attended school at Eminence for most of her education, then graduated high school in Los Angeles, California. She married Dale Bockman of Winona, Missouri, on Aug. 29, 1953. Jackie is survivedby her husband Dr. Dale Bockman; son Rhett and partner Michael Lobinske, of Jacksonville, Florida; son Steve and wife Diana, of Santa Rosa, California, and daughter Jennie Coates and husband Joe, of Tallapoosa, Georgia; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Jackie was raised in Eminence by her grandmother, Ella Johnston, and developed strong ties to her school friends. Her affection for the area was deeply rooted and remained throughout her life. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or another charity of your choice. A memorial service was held for Jackie on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, at the Duncan Funeral Home Chapel at Eminence, Missouri, with Pastor Julie Sanders officiating, followed by interment at Munsell Chapel Cemetery.

Donald Eugene Bolin the son of Leonard Erwin Bolin and Stella Lee Bolin was born on September 23, 1934 in Shannon County, MO and passed away on January 2, 2016 in Eminence, MO at the age of 81 years. Don was united in marriage to Joyce Cowen on May 21, 1955, and to this union two sons were born Donald James Bolin and Timothy Lee Bolin. Don was preceded in death by his parents Leonard Erwin Bolin and Stella Lee Conway Bolin. He is survived by his wife Joyce of the home, his two sons and their wives James and Lequeta Bolin of Cape Girardeau, MO and Timothy and Angie Bolin of Poplar Bluff, MO; three grandsons Christopher Bolin, T.J. Bolin, and Len Bolin; one granddaughter Heather Bolin; four great granddaughters Elizabeth, Emily, Dawn, and Mollie; one sister Maryann Hampton of Stockton, MO; three nieces, and a host of family and friends. Don had a passion for restaurant work. He owned a family restaurant for many years in Eminence, MO on highway 106. He worked with his son Tim, for several years at T & T Restaurant in Eminence, MO. He managed a Howard Johnson’s in Clayton, MO. Don worked for the Shannon County Sheriff’s Department as a dispatcher and a deputy. He also worked at the Eminence Lumber Company in Eminence, MO. Don accepted Christ into his life in 1972. He loved to be a part of the church. He faithfully attended church until his health no longer permitted. Don loved his family. He always enjoyed spending time with them. His grandchildren and his great grandchildren were his pride and joy. Don was a very special person and he will be missed greatly by all who knew him.

Lula Mable Allison Bolin was born Nov. 22, 1897, at Low Wassie, Missouri, the daughter of Joseph & Ella Julian Allison. She departed this life Mar. 17, 1988, at St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View, Missouri, at the age of 91 years, 3 months, 25 days. Lula married Dewey J. Bolin on Sep. 22, 1912, at Eminence, and to this union two children were born, a son and a daughter. Lula and Dewey were married for 75 years. She accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and remained faithful until death. Lula was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister. Surviving are her husband Dewey, of the home; son Jim Bolin and wife, Berniece, Eminence, Missouri; daughter Evelyn Sapp, Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren John J. Bolin, Mountain View, and Marilyn Bland, Eminence, and seven great-grandchildren. Lula will be sadly missed by everyone who knew and loved her. Stella Lee Conway Bolin, age 87, of Stockton, Missouri, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at St. John's Mercy Regional Health Center, Springfield, Missouri. Born Nov. 6, 1916, she was the daughter of Joseph Henry Conway and Lillie Mae Swiney. She married Leonard Erwin Bolin on Dec. 7, 1933, at Salem, Missouri, and to this union a son, Don, and a daughter, Maryann, were born. Stella was a beautician in Eminence for several years. She and Leonard started the Eminence Lumber Company, operating the business for many years. They also owned the Circle B Campground Resort on the Jacks Fork River. Stella accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age; she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eminence. After Leonard's death, Stella moved with her daughter and family to Stockton, where she attended First Southern Baptist Church up until her death. Stella was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Lillie Conway; sisters Sue Reed, Irene Volner and Kathryn Vansicle; brothers Paul Conway and Homer Myers. She is survived by her son Don Bolin and wife Joyce, of Eminence; daughter Maryann Hampton and husband Robert 'Bob' Hampton of Stockton; sister Mildred Brown of Pensacola, Florida; five grandchildren: James and Tim Bolin, Janet Harman, Kathy Shelhorn and Kim Hensley; eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Funeral services for Stella Conway Bolin were held Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at Brumback Funeral Home, with burial at Munsell Chapel Cemetery near Eminence, under the direction of Brumback Funeral Home of Stockton, Missouri.

Geneva Juanita Smith Bolton, daughter of Jink and Lueanna Smith, was born Feb. 15, 1917, and passed away on Dec. 16, 2012, at the age of 95. She was born on the Fursman Place on Jack's Fork River near Eminence, Shannon County, Missouri. She was married to John Bolton who passed away in 1971 at the age of 59. They lived together in Jefferson City, Missouri for many years. Geneva was preceded in death by her father Jink, mother Lueanna, and brothers Calvin (and wife, Wilma), Arnold (and wife, Fern) and sister Mescal (and husband, James). She is survived by her daughter Joan Blackburn, grandchildren Debra Ann, John Mark, Matthew (and wife, Judene), David, and Jack Jr. (and wife, Mary). She also was blessed by six great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren and many beloved nephews and nieces. Geneva had a wonderful and meaningful career. In the 1st grade she had decided to be a teacher and never changed her mind. As a graduate of Eminence High School and Southwest Missouri State College she became a teacher at Alley School District #887 in 1940. After teaching eight years at Alley she was asked to teach Vocational Home Economics at Eminence High School. There she taught an additional eight years. Geneva resigned from Eminence High School in 1956 after receiving an invitation to join the Department of Education as a Consultant in the Food Service (School Lunch) Program. This job afforded Geneva twenty-six years of challenges, rewards, and lasting friendships with school employees. Her work took her to all schools in Missouri -public, private, and parochial. She worked with other state departments, USDA representatives and people from all walks of life. Geneva traveled all over Missouri and the United States but for her nothing could compare to the hills of Shannon County. After spending forty-two years in the education system and loving every moment, she retired. She eventually moved back to the family farm on the Jacks Fork River outside Eminence where she spent her final years. Geneva’s greatest passion was her family. Keeping in contact by cards, letters, and phone calls she was willing to help them in any way she could. She also enjoyed gardening, yard work, and photographing the family. She was a great historian of local families and culture of Shannon County. She also was a founding member of the West Eminence Christian Church. Geneva Bolton passed away at Birch Tree Place where she was cared for during the final months of her long life. She will be remembered with love and respect by all who knew her. Visitation was held on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Eminence. Funeral services for Geneva Smith Bolton were conducted on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at the Duncan Funeral Chapel followed by interment at the New Eminence Cemetery.

Kimberly Michelle Borgman was born July 18, 1982 at Mountain View, Missouri, the daughter of Lester Stark and Louise Melvina Ray Stark. She passed away after a lengthy illness on August 27, 2014 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 32 years. She was united in marriage to Chad Borgman on July 3, 2007 in Willow Springs, Missouri. She was described as a kind-hearted person, but also known to be very outspoken and would help out or defend anyone who was close to her. Kim loved to be outdoors. It was said that when she was young and it rained, she would often be found stripping off her clothes and finding the nearest mud puddle to dance in and play. She loved fishing and camping, but was never fond of eating her catch. She also enjoyed tending to her many house plants; however, her family was the most important part of her life. Kimberly will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. John Richard Bradford was born October 24, 1932 at Clear Springs, Missouri to John A. Bradford and Lola G. Patterson Bradford. He passed away Friday morning, July 11, 2008 while a resident of the Mountain View Health Care, making his age 75 years, 8 months and 17 days. He served his country in the United States Army during Korea, from November 1952 to November 1954. He and Barbara Pittman were united in marriage, April 25, 2008 at Mountain View, Missouri. He lived and worked in Laramie, Wyoming for many years where he worked as a crane operator. He then moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he worked as a welder for Shippers Car Line. After his retirement from Shippers Car Line, he moved to Willow Springs. While in Kansas City, he was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He loved to hunt and while he was in good health, did so often as he could. He was baptized at an early age; he and Barbara attended the Church of Christ in Mountain View. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Lola, one brother Dudley, three sisters, Ruth Bradford, Ruby Miller and Bonnie Cox. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Mountain View; two daughters, Barbie Ann Shepard of Riverton, Wyoming, and Kathy Ramsey of Cheyenne, Wyoming; three grandsons, four brothers and three sisters, Everett Bradford of Des Moines, Iowa; Earl Bradford of Independence, Missouri, Betty Murfin of Willow Springs, Missouri, Peggy Nelson of Blue Springs, Missouri, Lola Brunk of Independence, Missouri, Jack Bradford of Raymondville, Missouri, and Joe Bradford of Willow Springs, Missouri; two step-daughters, Debbie Tranbarger and Bobbie Wills of Mountain View, Missouri; three step grand-children and four step-great grandchildren, all of Florida, and a host of nieces and nephews. Woodrow W. (Brad) Bradford, 90 of Wilder, ID, died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at home of natural causes. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2010 at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Interment followed at the Wilder Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2010. Woodrow Wilson Bradford was born July 12, 1919 in Whitesburg, Kentucky as the oldest of eight children born to George and Maudie Bradford. The family later moved to Clear Springs, Missouri, where Brad graduated from Willow Springs High School. After school, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and then joined the Army Air Corps where he served during World War II. He served with the 30th Bombardment Group, 7th Air Force in the Pacific Theatre. He trained as an aerial gunner and participated in anti-submarine duties after Pearl Harbor along the California coast with the 392nd Bomb Squadron. During this time, he was involved in a motorcycle accident and was subsequently relieved of flight status. He re-trained as a gun sight/bomb sight mechanic and shipped out with his unit to Saipan and Iwo Jima. During this time, he was seconded to a fighter squadron and helped to maintain and re-load the P-51’s escorting the bombers to Japan. At the end of the war, his unit was returned to March Field, California where they were disbanded. Brad was honorably discharged from active duty with the rank of Sergeant. Due to his injury during his service, Brad was awarded disabled veteran status. After his military service, Brad went into the construction trade in Phoenix, AZ and then continued this trade in San Bernardino, CA. In October, 1948, he became a police officer for the City of San Bernardino where he worked his way up to the rank of detective, retiring in 1974. At the time of his death, he was the oldest living retiree from the San Bernardino Police Department, holding badge number D1. In 1945, he married Lorraine Putman and they had a daughter, Janice Bradford. They later divorced. Brad married Alonia Marie Ladd on July 12, 1950 and they had a son, Robert (Mike) Bradford, and two children from Marie’s previous marriage, David Kruse and Kay Kruse Menold. Brad and Marie resided in San Bernardino, CA until 1974 when they moved to Wilder, ID.  Brad opened Brad’s Custom Frames and taught art lessons in the Treasure Valley. One of his proudest accomplishments was being invited to be a Featured Artist at the Northeastern Nevada Museum in Elko, NV.  Brad was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt. He taught his children and grandchildren the same. He always let the granddaughters catch more fish than he did and he graciously cleaned the catch as well. Some of the fondest memories were made out on the water with families and friends. Brad was a member of the Golden Gate Baptist Church, the Silver City Masonic Lodge, and the National Rifle Association. Surviving are his children, Mike (Joanne) Bradford, of Nampa; David Kruse, Kay (John) Menold, and Bob Bean all of California; Granddaughters Madeleine (Tony) Hall of Marsing; Tessa Bradford of Nampa; Chandler and Shelby Kruse, Darla (Derrick) McVay, Kim (Abraham) Elkhatib, Bobbi (Matthew) James, and Jenni Wiesen, all of California; Beth (Craig) Reidhead of Arizona; siblings: Emmett (Beth) Bradford, Elmer (Yvonne) Bradford, and Mae Linderer; several great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. His wife, Marie Bradford; siblings, Estell Bradford, Ellen Rakestraw, Ella Sherrill, and Gene Bradford; a daughter, Janice Bean, and an infant grandson, preceded him in death. Mae Madeline McBride Bradshaw was born October 23, 1927 at Winona, MO the daughter of Harold McBride and Mary Frances (Broadfoot) McBride. She passed away January 2, 2016 at her home in Birch Tree, MO at the age of 88 years. She was united in marriage to Glen Leo Bradshaw on April 10, 1954 in Salem, AR. Neomia Victoria Sellars Bradshaw was born October 11, 1941 at Rocky Creek, near Winona, MO the daughter of Clyde Irvin Sellars and Alzadie Edna (Warren) Sellars. She passed away December 28, 2016 at West Plains, MO at the age of 75 years. Neomia was united in marriage to Lester Calvin Bradshaw on June 28, 1966. Lester preceded her in death on March 31, 2002. Dennis Gene Brawley was born May 31, 1964 at Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Paul Brawley and Geneva (Berry) Brawley. He passed away October 6, 2014 at Mercy St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View, Missouri at the age of 50 years and 6 months. Dennis was united in marriage to Molly Wall on December 31, 1994 and to this union three beautiful angels came into this world Kelsey, Hanna, and Gabrielle. He was preceded in death by his father Paul Brawley in July of 1993 and by several aunts and uncles. Dennis is survived by three daughters Kelsey Brawley of Claremore, Oklahoma, Hanna Brawley of Winona, Missouri, and Gabrielle Brawley of Claremore, Oklahoma; his mother Geneva Brawley of Winona, Missouri; two brothers Doug Brawley of Winona, Missouri and Ken Brawley and wife Cathy and their children Chris Brawley and Courtney Brawley; and a granddaughter Chloe all of Phoenix, Arizona; Molly Brawley of Claremore, Oklahoma; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who were very special to him. Dennis graduated from Winona High School in 1982. He went to work for the Missouri Conservation Department as an Operation Supervisor and worked there for 22 years. His children were the joy and light of his life up to the end and he loved them dearly. Dennis left a legacy of faith, love, courage, and forgiveness of all things. He was a courageous, cheerful, valiant, and faithful warrior right up to the end. Dennis fought a good fight all of his life until his race was finished and told them of how to go in the love of God. He accepted Jesus as his Savior and talked to family and friends about God and His goodness in love. He will be missed by all who knew him. Interment at Mount Zion Cemetery.

Lyle Simon Brawley was born November 17, 1958 at Poplar Bluff, MO the son of Lee Lyle Brawley and Iva Myrtle (Bland) Brawley. He passed away March 16, 2016 at Winona, MO at the age of 57 years and 4 months. He was united in marriage to Shairron Vermillion on July 20, 1985 at Fort Lauderdale, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents; Lee Lyle Brawley and Iva Myrtle Brawley; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Harlen and Sylvia Vermillion; one daughter Erma Lewis; three sisters Letty Ruth Nickerson, Betty Annabelle Voyles, and an infant sister Barbara Ann Brawley; and three brothers-in-law Douglas Brooks, Ron Nickerson, and Wayne Voyles. He is survived by his wife Shairron Brawley of Winona, MO; two sons Kyle Simon Brawley of Winona, MO and Utal Gene Brawley of Winona, MO; one brother Lee Richard Brawley and wife Nancy of Sedalia, MO; one sister Dorothy Ellen Brooks of Winona, MO; two grandchildren Blayne Alexander Brawley and Ayden Skye Brawley both of Winona, MO; and a host of other family and friends. Lyle was raised in Lake Villa, IL and graduated from Antioch Community High School at Antioch, IL in 1976. After graduation he joined the United States Navy where he specialized in aircraft communications. During his six years of service, he was awarded the Humanitarian Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy Expeditionary Medal, and the Good Conduct Award before his honorable discharge in 1982. Lyle relocated to Winona, MO shortly after his discharge from the Navy. There he met Shairron, the love of his life, and he began farming in the area. Lyle was also a carpenter, working for Little Pine Creek Woodworks in Shannon and Howell County. He worked for 27 years as a carpenter in residential and commercial construction. Lyle enjoyed reading and being in the outdoors, fishing and hunting. He loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Interment at Pine Lawn Cemetery.

Allan Charles Brewer was born October 6, 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri, and was the son of Arthur Brewer and Alpha Opal (White) Brewer. He passed away March 24, 2016 at his home in Eminence, Missouri, at the age of 76 years. He was united in marriage to Nancy Lee Randolph on November 19, 1963, and to this union 3 children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Alpha Brewer, his brother, Arthur Joseph, and his sisters, Annette Alene and Ann Marjorie. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Nancy, his 3 sons, James, Chris, and John Mark, 5 grandchildren Art, Sara, Austin, Allan and Brett, his sister, Jean (Brewer) Mooney, his brother, Jim Brewer, Betty (Buckley) Hodge, who lived with Alpha for several years, as well as a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, extended relatives, and friends. For the first four years of his life, Allan lived with his parents and siblings on Simpson Place in their one floor of their three floor flat next to his Aunt Ollie and Uncle Jim Lobiando which was located in the Lafayette Square neighborhood. After his parents decided they were done with city life, they returned to the country where his mother Alpha was raised near Big Creek and Blair’s Creek on Mill Hollow Creek on the upper Current River. Although Allan was never a man of many words, he loved being in the company of others. As a child, he would love to sit under the kitchen table and hear his mother and other women carry on about the goings-on in the neighborhood. They called him “Little Big Ears.” Allan was very close to his Grandmother, Missouri Iowa (Williams) White Ellerman, and her extended family. On Mill Hollow Creek, his family farmed and used other means for subsistence. When they decided to come to town, he moved with his mom and dad, and brother, Jim, to property adjacent to Alley Spring at the age of 10. Here they farmed at the old Drewell place. In the coming years of his youth, Allan met his fair bride and wife of many years, Nancy Randolph, and as he and his family became more involved in the tourist industry, owning and operating a motel and restaurant. After the sale of the motel and restaurant, Allan worked throughout the St. Louis Metropolitan area as a union carpenter. He would eventually work throughout south central Missouri as a carpenter. He hauled canoes, drove trucks, and never ceased to work. One of his favorite statements was, “you gotta work.” Although, any time you asked him, no matter what he was doing, he stated, “working.” He was a strong man with incredible work ethic and devotion to his family and loved ones as well as his friends. Allan spent his spare time helping the Missouri Department of Conservation regulate the population of our native species including deer, fish, squirrels, and turkeys. Sometimes he helped regulate the wildlife population with some of the fastest July hounds in the area. His fishing expeditions were frequented mostly to the Current River with his Mercury 200 horsepower jet boat. His favorite place to visit was Jerktail landing (Van Dorn’s) where you would see him on a daily basis. This was his stress reliever and someplace you could let the cares of the world go by. Allan was very proud to serve as the President of the Missouri Hunting Dog Association for many years. He said hunting dogs are the heritage of the people and George Washington was known to be fond of listening to his dogs run. He also served on the Sheltered Workshop board and the Alley Spring Cemetery board. Allan grew up in a Christian home and attended church regularly. Although he no longer attended services after leaving home, his upbringing stayed with him and was witnessed by his tender heart and thoughtfulness. Stan Welch visited with Allan recently at the hospital and Allan told Stan that he had accepted Christ and was right with God. He believed in life after death. Eventually, after working the first 40 years of his life, he found his true passion in his work life, which was making and selling ice. He loved it. Allan worked day and night to create the business, not only because of his passion for it, but for the love of his family and to provide for them because of that love. Allan made sure to have a good life. If he wanted something, he worked for it. If he wanted to do something, he’d just go do it. He had a real zeal for fully living the life he was given and to make sure others enjoyed it if they were with him. Allan left this world with his wife, Nancy, by his side surrounded by his family. Interment at Alley Springs Cemetery.

Ruby 'Jewell' Smith was born March 21, 1928 in the Angeline Community and departed this life for her home in heaven September 30, 2017 at the age of 89. Jewell’s parents were Everett Smith and Iva Mae (Thomas) Smith and to this union six children were born: Carlos Smith and wife Maude, Annie (Smith) Russell and husband Chester, Raymond Smith and wife Louise, Richard Smith and wife Mary, and Mabel (Smith) Campbell. All siblings and spouses are deceased except Mabel who resides in Palm Bay, FL. Jewell leaves behind two daughters; Cheryl Randolph and husband Walter and Carole Broadfoot. She also leaves three grandchildren; Stephen Randolph and wife Amy, Kristin Holland and Richard Holland. She has four great-grandchildren: Nichole Lynn (Randolph) Cummings and husband Lindale, Trevor Alan Randolph, Chloe Elizabeth Randolph and Ava Elizabeth Holland. Also, she has two great-great grandchildren Ryder Lindale Cummings and Bethany Leanna Randolph. Coming from a large family Jewell had many nieces, nephews and extended family. She loved each of them and enjoyed being with them. Jewell graduated from Eminence High School in 1946. During her last two years she was voted most popular girl, best girl athlete, and wittiest girl. After graduation on May 6, 1946 she married Billy Gene Means and to this union two daughters were born. Judith Ann, who died soon after birth, and Cheryl Lynn. Bill was killed in an auto accident on April 25, 1954. In January, 1956 she married Donald Broadfoot and was so happy to now have another daughter in their home, Carole Elizabeth Broadfoot. Cheryl was only eight months older than Carole and they became very close. Jewell and Donald continued their life together in Eminence until Donald passed away in January, 1986. Jewell began working at the age of 12 during the summer for Ed and Dorothy Reed as well as Vern and Peggy Orchard in their respective restaurants. When she was 16 she went to St. Louis during the summer to work at American Can. She indicated to them she was 18 so she was hired to solder 110 gallon gas tanks used by the United States Military for their airplanes during World War II. As a young woman she worked as a clerk for Jay and Ann Williams in their grocery business. Back then it was customary to present one’s grocery list to the clerk who would then gather all the items for them while they waited. Her next employment was for the Shannon County Extension Office in the courthouse working with Wayne Hoffer. They collected and tested soil samples among other duties, she enjoyed this type of work very much. Jewell later worked at Angelica Uniform Company in Eminence as an inspector. The union bosses from St. Louis told the plant manager they would like to have several hundred who could work as fast as she did. Jewell worked there 17 years. Her last employment was at Missouri Division of Family Services in Eminence where she was a caseworker for 15 years. She most enjoyed and preferred working with the older people and developed lasting friendships with some clients in the office as well as friendships with folks at the Nursing Home. She retired from there in 1989. Jewell accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 19 and was a faithful member of the West Eminence Christian Church from 1969 until her passing. Throughout that time she taught various Sunday School classes as well as presented a lesson for the children before the minister spoke, which the adults enjoyed, too. Jewell’s family adored her and her passing has left a great void in their hearts. She was such a vibrant woman who loved laughing and making others laugh with her. She will be sorely missed but forever in their hearts. Interment at New Eminence Cemetery.

Douglas Brooks was born October 13, 1934 at Ruble, MO the son of James Henry Brooks and Lucinda (McAlister) Brooks. He passed away Thursday, January 19, 2012 at his home in Winona, MO at the age of 77 years. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Ellen Brawley on April 6, 1957 at Des Arc, MO. Doug was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and six sisters. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Ellen Brooks of Winona, MO; one son Christopher Brooks and wife Ann Marie of Lake Moor, IL; one daughter Lorna Filkey and husband John of Goodyear, AZ; one adopted daughter Mary Lou White of Winona, MO; and a very good friend Gracie Fox of Winona, MO; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends. Doug was an avid maker of fishing lures. He enjoyed visiting with people at auctions he attended. Doug was an active member at the House of Prayer Church in Winona, MO.   Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. Interment: Pine Lawn Cemetery, Winona, MO

Kenneth Dale Brooks, son of Kenneth and Beverly Burks Brooks was born November 17, 1965 at Mountain View, MO and passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Mountain View, MO, making his age 44 years and 1 day. Kenny is preceded in death by one sister Kristen Brooks, his grandparents Clave and Waneda Brooks, grandmother Beulah Burks, aunt Barbara Martin and a great uncle Bill Wilson. Surviving are his parents, Ken and Bev Brooks, one daughter Kendra Brooks, two brothers, Bryon Brooks, and Kevin Brooks and wife Connie, all of the Mountain View area; three nieces, Kayla Brooks of Mountain View, MO, Riley Masterson of Springfield, MO; Shaynah Brooks, one nephew Dalton Brooks, two great aunts Dorthy Wilson all of Mountain View, MO, and Aldena Justino of San Leandro, California, two uncles, Jerry Brooks and wife Darlene, and Eldon Martin all of the Mountain View, MO area. Kenny had many past times, he liked to go arrow head hunting, and had many in his collection. He loved to hunt, fish, ride his dune buggy, and 4 wheeler. When he was young he loved to ride horses and compete in horse shows. He loved to go on trail rides on the weekends with family and friends. He had a love for guns and collected them for many years. He spent a lot of time with his nephew Dalton, and has taught him many of the things he has learned. When Dalton got big enough he taught him the love of hunting, fishing, and arrow head hunting. They loved to compete with each other. They were always hunting and fishing together. He had many friends and if you ever needed anything he was always there for you. If you needed a ride to work in the snow and ice he would take you . If a storm came through the area, he would be out checking on you to see if everything was ok. If he needed to cut up trees to get your car out, he would. He loved to work in heavy equipment. He visited the nursing home many times, and he put a lot of effort in visiting his older friends. Kenny had a big heart and wanted to make a difference. Kenny would always go to Kendra's school dance to dance with his daughter. He never missed a chance to dance with his daughter. Services were held Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel in Summersville with Rev. Glenn Green officiating. Interment was in Arroll Cemetery under the care of Bradford Funeral Home.

Maurice Brown, of Van Buren, Missouri, son of Amos Earl and Anna Marie (Hamlin) Brown, was born May 21, 1925 in Bourbon, Missouri and departed this life August 4, 2015 at his residence in Van Buren, Missouri with his family by his side. He had attained the age of ninety years, two months and fourteen days. Mr. Brown had resided in Van Buren for the past thirty-five years and was formerly of Winona, Missouri. He served as vice president of manufacturing at Paramount Cap Mfg. and after his retirement, he owned and operated the flea market in Van Buren known as the World Trade Center. He was very civic minded in both Van Buren and Winona, serving on the Senior Citizen Housing Board, the Ambulance Board, St Francis Hospital Board, Winona School Board, City Council, Lion’s Club and was Boy Scout Leader and volunteer for the fire department. He was an active member of the Saint George Catholic Church in Van Buren. His daily devotional was “Lord, help me live from day to day in such a self-forgetful way that even when I kneel to pray, my prayer shall be for others.” On September 7, 1946, he was united in marriage to Rosemary Waidmann in Bourbon, Missouri. Survived by his loving family, wife, Rosemary Brown of Van Buren; son, Greg (Shannon) Brown of Winona; daughter, Margaret Stanley of Osage Beauch, MO; one sister Laverna Keeney of Bourbon, MO; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends who mourn his passing. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Brown; one brother, Gerald Brown; one sister, Maxine Keeney and one grandchild. Truly a kind and gentle man, Maurice Brown knew no bounds when he was needed by family and friends. He loved life and appreciated the God given beauty of nature. He will always be remembered for his answer to problems-large or small – “It will work out-one way or the other.” A visitation for family and friends will be held in the McSpadden Funeral Home in Van Buren, Missouri from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2015 with the Funeral Mass, officiated by Father Daniel J. Bobby Glen 'Bob' Brown was born on September 4, 1941, in Birch Tree, Missouri, to Glen Edward and Edna Edith Chilton Brown. He passed away at his home in Helendale, California, on June 27, 2017, surrounded by loved ones. Bob and Valeria Woods were married on August 30, 1959, in Eminence, Missouri. After working in Indiana and Missouri, Bob and Valeria moved to California in 1962. First to Hinkley, then to San Bernardino where Bob worked as a welder and in the irrigation business. In 1969, they moved to Helendale, California, where their daughter Karen was born. While living in Helendale, Bob opened Brown Irrigation, a farm service business. In 2014, after working in the irrigation business for over 40 years, Bob retired and closed Brown Irrigation. Throughout his 40 years of service, Bob had many customers, but more importantly he developed many long-lasting friendships that continued to the day of his passing. He was a dependable friend, a loving husband, and a dedicated father and grandfather. Bob was preceded in death by both of his parents; his son, Kenneth E. Brown; and a brother, Kenneth W. 'Peck' Brown. He leaves behind his loving wife of nearly 58 years, Valeria; his daughter, Karen and her husband, Claude Isom; two grandsons, Kenneth Marez and Nash Isom; one brother, Glen Brown, Jr.; and a sister, Sue Smith; as well as a host of in-laws, nieces, and nephews who adored him. Even though we mourn his passing, he will always be remembered by us as an honest, hardworking, dedicated man. A memorial service was held for Bob on September 4, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Duncan Funeral Home in Eminence, Missouri, with inurnment at the New Eminence Cemetery.

Glen Orville Bockman was born April 14, 1931 in Birch Tree, MO to William and Della Marie (Ball) Bockman. He passed away at home September 17, 2017 in Birch Tree, MO at the age of 86. He was united in marriage to Lois Ludene Trammel on June 26, 1955 at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Birch Tree, MO and to this union five children were born. Glen graduated from the Birch Tree Public School in 1949, and proudly served during the Korean War in the United States Army from September 5, 1949 until August 12, 1951. It would be the only time Glen ever lived away from Birch Tree. After being honorably discharged, he worked many years as a Shelter Insurance agent and Realtor. He served his community on a multitude of boards. He was a 32nd degree Mason of the Birch Tree Lodge, a Shriner, and a member of Gideons International. His deep Christian faith led him to serve as a deacon and trustee for the First Baptist Church and Oak Grove Baptist Church. Glen was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish in the area rivers and lakes. Glen was a very mild mannered gentleman; slow to speak, slow to anger, and always smiling. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Marie Bockman; his brother, Billy Hugh Bockman; and his sister, Betty Lou Bockman. Glen is survived by Lois, his loving wife of 62 years, five children; Jeffrey Bockman and wife Suzanne of Birch Tree, MO, Tina Asplin and husband Bruce of Birch Tree, MO, Lisa Bockman-Arata and husband John of Rolla, MO, Brian Bockman of New Orleans, LA, and Marshall Bockman and wife Kathryn of Bonne Terre, MO, six grandchildren; Skyler Bockman and wife Michelle, Judge Bockman and fiancé Kathryn, McKenna Bockman and fiancé Jacob, Justin Asplin and wife Jennifer, Meagan Kile and husband Matt, and Grant Bockman, six great grandchildren; Harper and Hattie Bockman, Cloey and Grady Asplin, and Sophie and Sadie Kile; and one brother Jim Bockman and wife Mae Ruth of Mountain Home, AR. Jerry Elzie Brown was born February 3, 1936, at Jacks Fork (Eminence), MO the son of Henry Wesley Brown and Laura Sholar (Fry) Brown. He passed away March 24, 2016, at Kimberling City, MO at the age of 80 years. He was united in marriage to Lillian “Effie” Blanche Counts on March 25, 1972, at Lockwood, MO. He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie Brown; his parents Henry Brown and Laura Brown; two sisters Jenny Rinkus and Margaret Fry; and three brothers Glenn Brown, Gerald Brown, and Esta Brown. He is survived by one son Lynn Brown and wife Michelle of Kimberling City, MO; one step-daughter Margaret Rainbolt and husband Leland of Branson, MO; two sisters Naydean Beck of Elkhart, IN and Gloria Randell of Florissant, MO; four grandchildren Chrissy Ross and husband Robert of Yukon, MO; Cainaan Rainbolt of Branson, MO, Lauren Brown and Kennedy Brown both of Kimberling City, MO; two great-grandchildren Rylan Ross and Carson Ross both of Yukon, MO, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends-all that he dearly loved. Jerry graduated from Eminence High School in 1954. He served in the United States Army as a Medical Corpsman and was honorably discharged in 1960. He had numerous professions including assembler at McDonald-Douglas, door-to-door Kirby salesperson, owner/operator of a gas station/garage and restaurant, school bus driver, EMT, maintenance and firefighter for the National Park Service, manager at the Roy L. Beck golf course, and tree trimmer/cutter and logger. Everyone that is related to or acquainted with Jerry (and some that are not) knows he loved to prank, aggravate, tease, talk and tell stories. He never met a stranger, and would do anything possible to help family or friends. He loved motoring up and down the rivers, going deer hunting with the Dixon clan, spending time with his and Effie’s brothers, sisters, and in-laws, keeping his yard in perfect order and condition, riding his 4-wheeler; drinking Pepsi, and doing pretty much whatever the grandkids and great-grandkids asked him to do. Interment New Eminence Cemetery.

Douglas McArthur Buckley was born July 17, 1942 in rural Bowlan in Shannon Co. to John W and Nova (Ross) Buckley and passed away on June 26, 2012 at Brent B Tinnin Manor in Ellington where he had resided for two years. Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother Junior Ray and his daughter Vona Dian. He is survived by two sisters, Lila May Counts and husband Howard of Piedmont, MO and Betty Ross Hodge of Eminence, MO. Also surviving him are his nieces Kathy Hodge Weaver of Eminence, MO, and Leta Counts Woolard and husband Vaden of Mill Spring, MO; two nephews, Jerry Counts of St Peters, MO and Kerry Counts and wife Mary of Bloomington, IL; three great nieces, Karis Woolard Vance and husband Daecus, and Kamille and Rachel Counts, five great nephews, Vaden Shane and Dake Woolard, Jared Counts, Howie and Charlie Counts; and two great, great nephews Daecus and Lucas Vance; special friends Donald Janeski and family of Kansas City, MO who took him in and became second parents to him; Richard Skinner and Donna Dean whom he had many fun times with; and many other friends and family too numerous to mention. During his childhood Doug lived in the homes of Carl and Ethel Frazier, Art and Alpha Brewer, his Uncle Tony and Aunt Janie Roderman and Ray Moss before leaving home in approximately 1958 when he moved to Kansas City to attend Auto Repair School then went to work for Don Janeski and worked for him until entering the Army in April, 1964. Upon discharge from the Army in April, 1966 he returned to Kansas City and was hired on at St Regis Paper Bag Company where he worked for 34 years and retired. Of course he couldn't stand being idle so went to work as a security guard guarding an underground warehouse. Also, throughout the years, Doug was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in the Kansas City/Sugar Creek area spending most of his extra time serving for them. Due to failing health, Doug moved back home to Eminence in September 2008 to be near his family and attended the Church of God of Prophecy faithfully until entering Brent B Tinnin Manor in March, 2010. It was on February 24, 2010 that Doug asked his niece Leta to pray with him and he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. We have no doubt that he is at home with the Lord. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Eminence, MO with Rev. Wayne Crider officiating. Interment was in Massie Cemetery in Eminence, MO under the direction of Duncan Funeral Homes. 

Reva Marie Jones Burke, daughter of the late Zimry and Ossie (Brawley) Jones, was born at home in Fremont, Missouri on April 10, 1934 and departed this life on August 24, 2014 in the Riverways Manor Nursing Home in Van Buren, Missouri. She had attained the age of eighty years, four months and fourteen days. Mrs. Burke was a lifetime resident of the Fremont and Van Buren, Missouri area. She was a homemaker and after her children were grown she worked as a cook for restaurants in the area. She was of the Full Gospel faith. Reva was a hard worker all her life and she was a wonderful cook and enjoyed watching people eating what she cooked. She also enjoyed crocheting, working jigsaw puzzles and listening to full gospel music. She loved visiting with family and friends and loved spending time with her grandchildren. On February 21, 1952 Reva was united in marriage to Bill Burke, and to this union two children were born. Survivors include one daughter, Trena (Burke) Roderman-Massie and husband David, of Van Buren; four grandchildren, Frank (Susan) Roderman of Ellington, Chris Roderman of Poplar Bluff, MO, Farrell Josh (Chasity) Burke of Redford and Alisha (Eddie) Warner of Van Buren; nine great grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd Jones of Gilbertsville, KY and many other relatives and friends who mourn her passing. In addition to her parents Zimry and Ossie (Brawley) Jones, she was also preceded in death by one son Farrell Burke; ten brothers, Clyde, Vernon, Delmar, Rev. Melbern, Richard, John, Everett, Dillard, Rev. Ray, and Rev. Calvin Jones, and two sisters, Melda Payne and Melva Lois Flint.
