Calvin and his wife Marie relocated to Dixon, MO in 1977 and have resided there since. Dixon quickly became home and was blessed with so many wonderful neighbors who have become his extended family. He clocked many miles across the country and was blessed to see many of God's beautiful creations which he thrived on. He was as skilled in his hobbies as he was skilled in his trade. Thanks to each and everyone of you here today who fulfilled his life with love, friendship and wonderful memories. Lisa was the daughter of Melvin and Margie Berry of Winona, MO. On November 20, 2011, Lisa was united in marriage to the love of her life David Reese. They enjoyed five years together. It was a love we all hope for, but few find. With their union, Lisa got three children, two sons and a daughter. Lisa graduated from WHS with the class of ‘89 and worked various jobs in and around Winona. She touched the lives of many people, and her only hobby was collecting friends. Lisa had a large collection of friends, and she loved her Lord and Savior. Working with children was her calling, whether being in church or out. Lisa had a unique sense of humor, which made her a joy to be with. Her laugh was contagious, her personality loving and sweet. David fulfilled a dream of hers when he bought her a Harley Davidson and taught her to ride. She loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing (as in gigging), which she got pretty good at. When she could put more fish in the boat than her uncles, she sure enjoyed her bragging rights. His goal was to pass this trait along to his children and grandchildren. Earl so bravely fought a long battle with heart problems but lived many good years in spite of his sickness and pain. His battle ended, though, when Jesus so gently came by and removed him from his suffering and anguish and took him home. Now, he is at rest for all eternity waiting for his family to join him there. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Mountain View, Mo. with Bro. Jim Davis and Bro. Bill Miller officiating. Interment was in Oak Forest Cemetery in Birch Tree, Mo., under the direction of Duncan Funeral Homes of Mountain View, Mo.

This marriage ended after 38 years and to this union four children were born. On October 6, 2001 he was united in marriage to Brenda Ferguson Atkins and her son became his fourth son. Raymond and Brenda spent as much time together as they could and enjoyed every minute of it. Raymond lived basically all his life in Winona and was well known by his friendly smile and his helping hand. He was very generous and would do whatever he could to help out family, friends, and even strangers who were in need. He was a good provider for his family and a man a family would be proud of. He went through all eight grades at Lower Rocky School and though he did not go to high school, he later earned his GED. He was a smart man and always enjoyed learning and helping others to learn, even helped to pay for college education for different people throughout the years. He tried to pass his wisdom down to his children and grandchildren, to his nieces and nephews, and various other young people whose lives were touched by his kindness and generosity. He professed his faith in the Lord on Easter Sunday 1962 and was baptized. He taught Sunday School and worked with the youth group at the Assembly of God Church in Winona when he was a young man. For the last few months he attended church at the House of Prayer in Winona. During his life he enjoyed working with many people. He owned and operated a service station and restaurant, he drove a school bus for twenty years, and he owned rental property. He also did construction work and contract work with his bull dozer. He served on the Board of Directors at Howell-Oregon Electric for about thirty years. All the while, he was a farmer and was never afraid of hard work. He set an example of good work ethics for his children and they were very proud of his 'working man' hands. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Gene, and Wayne Roberts; one sister, Naomi Garrison; and one great granddaughter, Harlie Jo Colleen Phillips. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Brenda of the home, four sons; Keith 'Woody' Roberts and Sherry of Ash Grove, Mo., Kevin 'Red' Roberts and wife Renee, Kirk Roberts and friend, Jody 'Chink' Pulliam, and Marshall Atkins and one daughter Kelly Vermillion and husband R.B. all of Winona, Mo., 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one on the way. HOLLIDAY RUCKER

Elliott E. Rucker

PIONEER PASSES PEACEFULLY AWAY

Mrs. Elliot Rucker Died Last Sunday, May 9, After Illness of Four Days

Another esteemed pioneer crossed over the great divide last Sunday when Mrs. Elizabeth Rucker passed peacefully away. The cause of death was pneumonia, which developed only four days before her death. Mary Elizabeth Holliday was born in Cobden, Illinois, March 12, 1855, where she spent the early years of her girlhood. Later she spent some time in Winona, Missouri, where she met Elliot Rucker. The friendship that sprang up ripened into love and they were married in Winona June 7, 1874. To the union seven children were born, all but one of whom are living to mourn the loss of one of the best mothers. They are Mrs. George Stephenson, Mrs. Frank Young, Claude and Lee Roy of Pullman, Lawrence E. of Olympia, Leonard J. of Eagle Creek, Oregon, and Mrs. Lillie May Rigg, deceased. There are 17 surviving grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Rucker came to the great west in 1886, locating at Dayton. Eight years later they came to Pullman, where they have resided for over a quarter of a century. Over 18 years ago she was called to sustain the severe misfortune of losing her life companion, who fell asleep on January 4, 1962. Since that time she has trod life's way alone. Though greatly saddened by her loss, she found rich comfort in her communion with the Man of Sorrows. She was able to shake off the gloom and for more than 15 years has been a happy benediction to all who have been permitted to share her association. She remembered her Creator in the days of her youth and in her old age she forsook him not. All the days of her life she has loved and served Her Lord and died in the comfort of a living faith. Mrs. Rucker was a splendid type of the days of the west. She was sturdy and frugal in her home life. Her love of the beautiful in nature resulted in making her door yard a bevy of beautiful flowers. In fact, her intense desire for a more beautiful garden of roses this year led to her decease. It was after some extra exertion in planting a few varieties of rare flowers that the fatal malady came upon her. The end came in the early forenoon of May 9 at the age of 65 years one month and 27 days. The funeral was conducted from the Pullman Christian church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 11. H. J. Reynolds, the minister, officiated. Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Metz sang "Some Time We'll Understand" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." The floral offerings were expressive of the love of relatives and friends of which there is a host. Interment was made in Fairmount.

NOTE: She was the daughter of David King Holliday and Milley Elizabeth Anderson Holliday. They are buried in the Old Baptist Cemetery on Trace pond hill at Winona. Their
tombstones have been destroyed.  Mary Elizabeth Rucker was a sister to Rachel Jane Holliday Dailey. Mary Elizabeth married Elliott Rucker at Winona - they are believed to be some of the ones who traveled the Oregon Trail.

Laverne Evelyn Grandstaff Rutledge - Of Birch Tree MO - Born on Aug. 14, 1924, in Low Wassie, Mo., to Oran John and Opal Ansil Oliver Grandstaff. Laverne went to be with her precious Jesus on Feb. 1, 2009, at the age of 84 years, 5 months and 18 days. Laverne attended school until the third grade. Later in life, during World War II, Laverne became a certified welder. Many years of her life, she was a homemaker. She dedicated her compassion and heart to many volunteer organizations throughout her life. On Nov. 5, 1945, Laverne was united in marriage to her lifelong love and companion Elree Ozen Rutledge and to this union, 10 children were born. Preceding Laverne in death were her parents, Oran John and Opal Grandstaff; husband, Elree Ozen Rutledge; two daughters, Evelyn Lucille Pruett and Margaret Louise Landis; one grandchild, Lanora Ann Rutledge; one sister, Rachael Louise Sartin; one niece, Louise Ferber; one sister-in-law, Louise Grandstaff; and one brother-in-law, Ivan Cooley. Those surviving Laverne are her children, Larry Ozen Rutledge and wife, Patty, of Summersville, Mo., William John Rutledge and wife, Lena, of Birch Tree, Mo., Carol Bernice Beavers and husband, Earl, of Oxford, Ark., Roy Taylor Rutledge and wife, Renae, of Birch Tree, Mo., Jewell Ellen Uchtman and husband, Ben Jay, of Clarkridge, Ark., Jackson Dee Rutledge and wife, Pat, of Birch Tree, Mo., Mildred Maureen Fox and husband, Danny, of Birch Tree, Mo., and Earnest Alexander Rutledge and wife, Lynda, of Birch Tree, Mo. Laverne is also survived by thirty grandchildren; fifty-three great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; two brothers, Lester 'Buck” Howard Grandstaff and wife, Freda, of Birch Tree, Mo., and Vester Leroy Grandstaff and wife, Kay, of Birch Tree, Mo.; two sisters, Flora Mae Cooley of Winona, Mo., and Barbara Ann Yearwood and husband, Ernie, of Winona, Mo.; and a host of nieces, nephews, loving relatives, friends and neighbors. Laverne was a very warm compassionate woman who shared her big heart with everyone she came in contact with. She was a mother, grandmother and friend to many other families – not just her own. She always welcomed new friends or even a complete stranger with a hug and a kiss, and her famous words, 'I love you honey” or 'Honey how are you?” Laverne took great pride in sharing her love of Jesus with her family and preaching his wonderful words right up until her beautiful life ended. Laverne was of the Pentecostal faith and when she was in better health, attended the Winona Assembly of God Church. She left behind many wonderful memories that we all will hold dear in our hearts – the bubble gum handouts to the grandchildren, the dollars passed out to them on birthdays and the sleepovers with 20 kids in Elree and Laverne’s home. Everyone who knew Laverne knew that she loved the hair, the nails, the foot massages, and the backrubs we’ve all had a hand in to make her look like the queen she was. Laverne loved her children, brothers and sisters, and all of her neighbors and friends more than mere words could ever express and always spoke highly of each one. Everyone who knew Laverne loved her and she will remain in our hearts forever. There wasn’t a day on this earth that Laverne didn’t worry about others and their well being. When she prayed, it was for others – never herself. She had the biggest, warmest heart that touched so many lives. Laverne would be extremely honored to know the expressions of love for her this day. Laverne was greatly loved and will be missed by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her. Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, in Yarber Chapel, Mountain View, Mo., with Brother Richard Dement and Brother Darrell Jones officiating.
