Quincy: northwest corner, hall, hotel, and hard history
Quincy sits in Montgomery Township, in the county's northwest corner—platted in 1848, woolen mill by 1866, and a Civil War footnote no town asks for: an 1862 attack on invalid Iowa soldiers under Capt. Rafter.
The hall has worn many hats. The hotel photos, taken when the building was already marked for demolition in spring 2005, catch a last look at lodging that once served a livelier crossroads. Thanks go to Harold John and others who put cameras between the weather and forgetting.
