The Hickory County Historical Society operates as a non-profit working to benefit the local community by providing historical and cultural knowledge about the founding of Hickory County and the people who settled the area.

About the Society

Organized to steward county history and genealogy, HCHS maintains the museum and research center, publishes reference works, and hosts public programs.

Museum & research

Located on Museum Street in Hermitage, Missouri, in the John Siddles Williams House—listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1980. With donations, fundraiser proceeds, and grants, the Society continues restoring the building and sharing artifacts donated by current and former county residents. A research room supports genealogy and local history inquiries.

Regular meetings are held at 2:00 pm on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Hickory County Library in Hermitage. Free; public invited.

Museum open houses are held 10:00 am–2:00 pm on the Saturday of holiday weekends in 2026 (John Siddles Williams House, Museum Street, Hermitage).
