Samuel D. Prosise
Samuel D. Prosise, age 100, died on April 18, 1999 at Clark's Mountain Nursing Center in Piedmont.
Samuel was a car repairman on the Illinois Burlington Northern Railroad. 
Samuel was born on April 17, 1899 in Wayne County, Mo. On December 21, 1922 he was united in marriage to Lela Mae Sutton and she preceded him in death on April 15, 1989.
Survivors include three sons, Edmond Prosise of Poplar Bluff, Kenneth Prosise and James Prosise, both of Williamsville; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his wife Lela, parents, Henry Prosise and Etta Mae Grable Prosise, son Orris, four brothers, Luther, Les, Jess and Ellis, and four sisters, Goldie Little, Beryl Cort, Jewell David and Ola Patterson.
He had been a member of the Williamsville Assembly of God Church since 1926.
The funeral was at Ruegg Funeral Home in Williamsville April 20, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. Bro. Lonnie Pyatt officiated. Music was by pianist, Evelyn Williford, singers, Sharon Sanders, Letha Pyatt, Betty Lou Bilbrey, and Jackie Balley. Pallbearers were Kenney Prosise, Danny Camden, Jeffrey Prosise, James C. Prosise, Don White, and Bob Prosise. Burial was in Holliday Cemetery, Williamsville, with arrangements by Ruegg Funeral Home of Williamsville.

Thomas B. Rubottom
Thomas B. Rubottom, age 80 years, died April 17, 1999 at Greenville.
He retired from the Corps of Engineers in 1981. He was in the Army from 1942 to 1945 during World War II, serving in Germany. He had resided in Memphis, Tenn. for many years, and had lived in Greenville since 1997.
Thomas was born March 3, 1919 at Old Greenville, the son of the late Clarence and Roxey (Ward) Rubottom.
He was married in 1949 to Wanda Barrett and she passed away in 1985. One daughter, Mary Jane, also preceded him in death.
Survivors are one brother, Bill Rubottom, St. Louis; one sister, Phoebe Lentz, Silva; two nieces, Connie Twidwell and Debbie Rubottom; one nephew, Mike Rubottom.
He was a member of the Methodist Church in Memphis.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. April 20, 1999 at the Morrison-Worley Greenville Chapel with Rev. Bill Sargent officiating. Music was by Glendell Twidwell and Jeanette Turn- bough. Casketbearers were Marvin Barks, Truman Barks, Lavern Daves and F.C. White. Burial was in the Linville-Barrett Cemetery, Coldwater, with graveside honors by the VFW Post #6477, Poplar Bluff. Services were under the direction of Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Greenville.

Wilma J. Winhoven
Wilma Jean Winhoven, 69, of Celina, Ohio, died April 19, 1999 at the Community Hospital in Coldwater, Ohio.
She was a homemaker.
Born Sept. 21, 1929 in Wayne County, Mo., she was the daughter of the late George and Anna (Meloy) Berry.
She was married to Virgil Robert Winhoven June 27, 1953 and he preceded her in death May 11, 1991.
Survivors are four sons, Gerald and Lynn Winhoven, Ronald and Mary Winhoven, Michael Winhoven, and Donald Winhoven, all of Celina; four daughters, Joyce and David Routt, Van Wert, Ohio, Karen Chandler, Celina, Carolyn Winhoven and Sharon Winhoven, both of Cincinnati; four sisters, Mary Jones and Dorothy Stephens, Greenville, Lela Jones, WoodRiver, Jo Gerstner, Eolia; seven grandsons; three granddaughters; six step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. April 22, 1999 at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home in Celina. Pastor Jack Womack will officiate, with burial in the Swamp College Cemetery, Celina. Arrangements are by W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Assocation.

Scotty Carden
Glendale (Scotty) Scott Carden, age 9, of Doniphan, died April 14, 1999, at Randolph County, Ark. from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Scotty was born Oct. 10, 1989, at Poplar Bluff. He was a third grade student at Maynard, Ark. and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl E. Carden.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Mary and Curt Dean of Doniphan; one sister, Jackie Carden of Doniphan; and grandparents, Paula Twidwell of Doniphan, James and Helen Carden of Greenville, Carl Johnson of Naples, Fla.; great-grandparents, Velma Twidwell of Marion, Ind. and Irene Creason of Fairdealing. Also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Visitation was at 5 p.m. Friday at Edwards Funeral Home of Doniphan. The funeral was at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 1999 at the funeral home chapel. Burial was in Poyner Cemetery.

Charles E. Rose
Charles Elmer Rose, age 58, died on April 11, 1999 at his home in Piedmont, Mo.
Charlie was born December 29, 1940 in Wardell, Mo., son of Willis B. Rose and Helen Smith Rose.
Surviving Charlie is his mother, Helen Rose of Annapolis; one brother, Jimmie Rose of Imperial; and seven sisters, Wilma Rose of Piedmont, Marvie Gray, Des Arc, Norma Bridges, Rogers, Arkansas, Betty Grinder of Austin, Texas, Eileen Harkins of St. Charles, Brenda Rose of West Plains, and Teresa Turner of Georgia.
Preceding him in death is father, Willis, and two brothers, Richard and Louis Edmund Rose.
Charlie served in both the Army and the Navy and he was a member of the Piedmont American Legion Post #0281.
The funeral was at Kutis Funeral Home Inc. in St. Louis, April 14 at 12:30 p.m. The Clergy was Rev. Mackie. Pallbearers were Chris Bridges, Mark Bridges, Jeff Bridges, Jimmie Rose, Johnny Ray Rose, and Paul Harkins. 
Burial was in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, with arrangements by Kutis Funeral Home, St. Louis.

Gladys L. Woods
Gladys L. Woods, 87, of Piedmont, died April 16, 1999, at the Lucy Lee Healthcare System in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
She was born on August 14, 1911 at California, Mo.
She managed the kitchen at Brown Shoe Co. in Piedmont, before retiring in 1974. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Piedmont.
In 1927 she was united in marriage to William Orlie Woods. He preceded her in death on July 10, 1964. Also preceding her in death are two grandchildren, Richard "Spunky" Fox and infant Terry Woods, one brother Harold Kelsey and parents, George Brown and Pearl Latham Kelsey.
Surviving are two sons, George Woods of Cahokia, Ill. and Wayne Woods of Piedmont; six daughters, Louise Staggs of Cahokia, Ill., Maxine Ard of St. James, Delores Ragsdale of Dupo, Ill., Phyllis Ragsdale of Dupo, Ill., Linda McFadden of Piedmont, and Donna Fox of Piedmont; one sister, Irene Koch of St. Louis; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral was at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont April 19, 1999 at 11:30 a.m. Rev. Charles Gillenwater officiated. Music was by Stacy Hinkle, Lisa Mullery, and Elaine Hughes. Pallbearers were Dennis Ard, Todd Ragsdale, Keith Ragsdale, Chris Ragsdale, Wayne Woods, Brandon Woods, and Jeremy Bowman.

Lola M. Randall
Lola Marie Randall, age 86, of Piedmont, died Nov. 3, 1999 in Callaway, Neb. 
She was born on August 26, 1914 in Patterson, Mo.
She united in marriage to Fred Randall on October 30, 1931, and he preceded her in death on March 30, 1998. 
Also preceding in death are her parents, John William Haggett and Mary Jane (Allen) Haggett, five brothers, Clyde, Harvey, William, Raymond and Clecy Haggett, and one grandson, Michael Schuster.
She is survived by one son, Jim Randall of St. Louis; one daughter Betty Schuster of Eddyville, Neb; two sisters Lela King of Fenton, and Dola Shearrer of Poplar Bluff; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Lola had worked as a lab clerk at Lambert-Warner Pharmaceutical Company and was a member of Piedmont United Baptist Church.
The service was at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont, Nov. 6, 1999 at 10 a.m. Elder Thabus Pyles officiated. Pallbearers were Jeff Randall, Paul Schuster, Bill Haggett, Richard Rayfield, John Haggett, and Bob Wedepohl. Burial was in t he Masonic Cemetery at Piedmont with arrangements by Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont.

Anna Twidwell
Anna Twidwell, 91, died Nov. 1, 1999 at Greenville Health Care in Greenville, Mo. She was born July 16, 1908 in Chicago, Ill.
Anna was married to Truman Twidwell on January 13, 1926 and he preceded her in death on August 31, 1984.
She is also preceded by her parents, John Schmidt and Mary Bicking Schmidt, one son, Truman Twidwell Jr., and one daughter Mary Sue Sargent.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty Van Hise of Silver Springs, Md; two brothers, Andrew Schmidt of Michigan and Linnie Schmidt of Chicago, Ill; two sisters, Helen and Katie Koepake of Chicago, Ill; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. 
Anna was a homemaker and a member of Hickory Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Clubb.
Services were at Ruegg Funeral Home in Greenville, Nov. 5, 1999 at 11 a.m. Rev. Richard Green officiated. Pallbearers were Harold Twidwell, Bill Sargent, Mike Sargent, Russ Sargent, Travis Sargent, and Lou Sieg. Burial was in Twidwell Cemetery, Clubb, with arrangements by Ruegg Funeral Home, Greenville.

Ethel G. Hughey
Ethel Grace Hughey, 98 years, died on Oct. 30, 1999 in Fredericktown, Mo.
She was married to Buford Burton Hughey on December 1, 1945, he preceded her in death on September 10, 1995.
She is also preceded in death by her parents, Noah Sitzes and Sophonia Burk Sitzes.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Rosetta Sitzes, numerous nieces and nephews, and a very close friend, Sue Shoffner.
Ethel was a school teacher for 38 years and of the Methodist faith.

Rev. Roger L. Connelly
Rev. Roger L. (Josh) Connelly, 86, died on November 5, 1999 at his home in Williamsville, Mo. He was born Jan. 1, 1913 in East St. Louis, Ill.
On May 19, 1934 he was united in marriage to Mildred Nadine Duckett and she preceded in death on January 5, 1995.
Also preceding in death is his parents, Charles Connelly and Nettie Alice (Swalley) Connelly, three brothers, James Robert Connelly, Ray Connelly and Robert Connelly, and two sisters, Lucille Connelly and Ella Mayes.
He is survived by two sons, Roger E. Connelly of Williamsville, Mo. and C. Richard Connelly of Birmingham, Ala., one daughter, Marilyn Slover of Williamsville, Mo., six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Rev. Connelly was a member of the Missouri East Conference of the United Methodist Church.
The service was at the United Methodist Church in Williamsville, Nov. 8, 1999, at 10 a.m. The Reverends Phil Coats, Kent Wilfond, and Glen Lashley officiated.
Pallbearers were Roger E. Connelly, Steven Fuchs, Clifford Smith, Paul Provow, James Hicks and John Bilbrey. Burial was in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Williamsville, with arrangements by Ruegg Funeral Home, Williamsville.

Holly A. Whited
Holly Anne White, age 27, of Annapolis, died November 5, 1999 in St. Louis, Mo.
She was born February 11, 1972 in Ironton Mo.
Holly is survived by her parents, Fred Whited and Sharon Henson Whited; one brother, Greg Whited and wife, Stephanie; and one sister, Leslee Randazzo, and husband, Rick, all of Annapolis.
Holly was a 1991 graduate of South Iron School in Annapolis and a member of the Glover Baptist Church.

Clifford M. Montgomery
Clifford M. Montgomery, 73, died November 6, 1999 at his home in Piedmont. 
He was born March 22, 1926 in Silva.
He is survived by one son, Bobby D. Montgomery of Piedmont; one daughter, Jennifer Lynn Montgomery of Piedmont; and five grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Montgomery and Nora Clark Montgomery, and one sister, Goldie Marie DeShaney.
Clifford had worked in a sawmill and was of the Baptist faith.

Rev. Eddie Martin
Rev. Eddie D. Martin, age 78, of Piedmont, died Nov. 8, 1999 at Poplar Bluff, Mo.
He pastored churches in Missouri and Arkansas for 25 years. He was the pastor at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Piedmont for a total of nine years, and was active in the Clearwater Ministerial Alliance for many years.
Born June 14, 1921 near Glen, Mo., he was the son of the late Teamous and Helen (Hess) Martin.
He was married to Mildred Foster in 1942, and she preceded him in death Dec. 1, 1972. He married Eunice Hale Feb. 15, 1974 at DeSoto, and she survives.
Other survivors are his children, Terry and Sherry Martin, Springfield; stepchildren, Darrel and Helen Hale, Festus; grandchildren, Terry and Ginger Martin, Jr., Springfield, Diana Martin, St. Louis; great granchildren, Hannah and Jeffery Martin.
Two brothers, Pepper and Stanley Martin, and one sister, Jean Brown, preceded him in death.
Rev. Martin was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1945. He and his wife Eunice had made their home in Piedmont for the past several years.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. Nov. 10, 1999 at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Piedmont. The Reverends Charlie Gillenwater and Gary Aubuchon officiated. Music was by Glendell Twidwell, Oresta Atnip, Cinda Wood, Ron Wood and Jeanette Turnbough. Casketbearers were church deacons, Melvin Moore, John Griffin, Eddy Hughes, Bob Sanders, Stan Garrison and Jim McFadden. Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery at Naylor, directed by Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Piedmont.

Mary E. Chesnick
Mary E. Chesnick, 71, of Piedmont died Aug. 8, 2000 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Feb. 14, 1929 in Buick, Mo. 
She married James V. Chesnick May 25, 1957 and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church.
Visitation for Mrs. Chesnick was Thursday, Aug. 10, from 9:30 a.m. - 9 p.m. at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont. The funeral was Friday, Aug. 11, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church. 

Pat Tilk
Pat Tilk, 63, died Oct. 5, 2000 at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center in Farmington, Mo.
He was born Sept. 3, 1937 in Jewett, Mo., son of the late Frank and Helen (Plake) Tilk.
He was united in marriage to Clara Long on Sept. 16, 1958 in Ironton, Mo. and she survives. Prior to retiring in 1999 he worked in the maintenance department of ISP Mineral company and farmed for many years. He was a member of the Maple View Baptist Church in Jewett and served on the board of the Jewett Community Center.
Those surviving are: two sons, Patrick Daniel Tilk, Jewett, Dwayne Edward Tilk, Fredericktown, Mo.; daughter, Dolores Charlene Tanner, Fredericktown; brother, Frankie Tilk, Piedmont; sister, Kathryn Brewer, Jewett; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Oct. 8 at Wilson Funeral Home in Fredericktown with Elder Charles Sutton officiating.
Burial was in the Tilk family cemetery in Madison County.

Margaret Woods
Margaret Woods, 93, formerly of Patterson, died Oct. 6, 2000 in Grandview Health Care Center, Washington, Mo.
She was born Aug. 28, 1907 in Patterson, daughter of the late James and Mary (Twidwell) Shearrer.
She married James Monroe Woods Jan. 1, 1924 and he preceded her in death Oct. 28, 1986. Margaret was a homemaker, a member of the Wayne County Historical Society and the United Methodist Church of Patterson.
Survivors include: two sons, William Woods, Jacksonville, Fla., Robert Woods, Caledonia, Mo.; five daughters, Mary Lois Scherr, St. Louis; Virginia Mueller, Waterloo, Ill., Peggy Green, Versailles, Mo., Dixie Stone, Washington, Mo., Janice Mullins, Patterson, Mo.; one sister, Blanche Evans, Greenville, Mo.; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, James Woods, Jr.; one brother, Lyman Shearrer; one sister, Grace Fulton; two grandchildren.
The funeral was held Oct. 8 at United Methodist Church in Patterson with Rev. John Adams officiating and music provided by Richard and Roger McAllister, Janice Middleton and Linda McAllister, pianist.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Mueller, Kenneth Green, Dean Mullins, Terry Stone, Tony Stone and Chris Woods. Burial was in Rowland Cemetery in Patterson. 

Nellie Huddleston
Nellie (Nell) Huddleston, 87, died Oct. 1, 2000 in South Brook Nursing Home in Farmington, where she resided.
She was born March 17, 1913 in Vulcan, Mo., daughter of the late Edward and Alice (Stevenson) Talley.
She was united in marriage to Clifton Huddleston, who preceded her in death on April 10, 1979. Nell was a homemaker and attended Harvest Full Gospel Church in Des Arc.
Survivors include: two sons, Dr. Thomas J. Huddleston, Farmington, Donald L. Huddleston, Hartsville, S.C.; two brothers, Olin Talley, Defuniak Springs, Fla., Omer Talley, Wappapello, Mo.; one sister, Edith Purtle, LeRoy, Ill.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, David E. Huddleston; two brothers, Guy and Jake Talley; four sisters, Stella Sutton, Rella Smith, Virgie Williams, Edna Middleton.
The funeral was held Oct. 3 at Ruegg Funeral Home with Revs. C.L. Stage and Gary Golden officiating. Music was provided by Rev. and Mrs. C.L. Stage and Barbara Patterson, pianist.
Pallbearers were Norman Sutton, Jimmy Talley, Rob Peden, Tod Huddleston, Timmy Huddleston, Gerald Dinkins. Burial was in Sutton Cemetery in Vulcan. 

James N. Street
James N. Street, 88, died Sept. 28, 2000 in Three Rivers Healthcare North, Poplar Bluff, Mo.
He was born Jan. 22, 1912 in Des Arc , son of the late Gertrude (Poston) Street.
He was united in marriage to Verma Lewis, who preceded him in
death. 
He married Vema Lee in September of 1993 and she survives, residing in Piedmont.
James was of the Nazarene belief. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #1197 A.F.&A.F., LaFeria, Texas. He served his country during World War II and was awarded five bronze stars. He had owned and operated a restaurant in Texas.
He is survived by: two stepsons, Stan Lee, St. Louis, James O. Lee, Nashville, Tenn.; one stepdaughter, Shirley Middleton, St. Louis; a nephew, Kelly Street and niece, Lori Birdsong, both of Texas; a special cousin, Clotine Harris and family, who cared for him during his illness.
The funeral was held Sept. 30 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont with Rev. Charlie Gillenwater presiding.
Pallbearers were Wayne Harris, Bill Barker, Elmer Sharp, Kelly Street, Byron Tucker and Gary Gramlich. Burial was in Mt. View Cemetery in Des Arc. 

Pattie Joe Laxton
Pattie Jo Laxton, 11, of Norman, Okla., died Oct. 9, 2000 at Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City from burns and smoke inhalation suffered in a fire at a friend's home.
She was born Nov. 4, 1988 in Oklahoma City, daughter of Charles and Sarah Laxton of Anadarko, Okla. and Lisa and David Brown of Norman, Okla.
Pattie was a bubbly little girl, full of hugs and giggles. She liked to play with makeup, jewelry and Barbie dolls. She was a student at Kennedy Elementary School and an active member of the First Baptist Church in Norman.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandmother, Evelyn Laxton, Piedmont; brothers, Dustin Laxton, Norman, Eric Laxton, Anadarko; stepsister, Jackilyn Ozio, Anadarko; aunts, Wanda Laxton, Georgia Smith, both of Cutler, Ill.; step-grandmother, Lynette Steverson, Anadarko; uncles, Willard, Robert and John Laxton, all of Piedmont.
The funeral was held Oct. 12 at the First Baptist Church in Norman.
Burial was in IOOF Cemetery at Norman. 

Fredia L. Croney
Fredia L. Croney, 71, died Feb. 2, 2001 in Greenville, Mo.
She was born May 3, 1929 in Marquand, Mo., daughter of the late Daniel and Rosie Hale.
She married Elbert Croney and he preceded her in death. Fredia was a homemaker and had lived in Silva for many years.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Jim, Bill and Albert, three sisters, Sadie, Vida and Lillie and one great grandchild, Josh Beyers.
Survivors include three sons, Douglas Croney, Manitiwoc, Wisc., Willias Croney, St. Ann, Mo., Timothy Croney, St. Ann, Mo., three brothers, Truman Hale, Piedmont, Troy Hale, Silva and Eugene Hale, Greenville, two sisters, Tiney Jennerjohn, Piedmont, Virgie Holmes Weston, Greenville, fifteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and her dear frind Earl Weston.
The funeral was held Feb. 6 at the Morrison-Worley Chapel in Greenville with Rev. Daniel Hale officiating. Special music was provided by Bonnie Funston. 
Pallbearers were Douglas Croney, William Croney, Timothy Croney, Bryan Croney, Daniel Croney and Ryan Croney. 
Interment was in the Twidwell Cemetery in Clubb. Services were under the direction of Morrison-Worley Greenville Chapel. 

Rubye P. Blackwell
Rubye P. Blackwell, 84, died Feb. 2, 2001 in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
She was born Aug. 6, 1916 in Braggadocio, Mo., daughter of the late William Lewis Gallaher and Lillie Gertrude (Bray) Gallaher.
She was united in marriage to Carl Blackwell on Nov. 2, 1947 and he preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1977. Also preceding her in death was one brother Milburn Gallaher.
Survivors include one son Carl Michael (Mike) Blackwell and wife Jackie, grandson Westley Pike Blackwell and wife, Jodie, great grandson Austin, all of Piedmont, one brother Buford Gallaher, Huntsville Al, two sisters Viola Dawson, Hayti, Mo., Louis Ottinger, Caruthersville, Mo.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Piedmont.
Funeral services were Feb. 4 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont with the Rev. James Stewart officiating. Music was provided by the First Baptist Church choir, pianist Linda Niswonger.

Emil R. Carlson
Emil R. Carlson, 98, died Jan. 31, 2001 in Piedmont, Mo.
He was born March 16, 1902 in Chicago, Ill., son of the late Ivan and Nellie Carlson.
He married Mabel Roberts May 1, 1954 in Chicago and she survives. He worked as a cost accountant in Chicago before his retirement in 1971. He had lived at Missionary Acres in Clubb. He was the oldest living member of the local AARP Chapter and was a member of the Evangel Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence and his twin, Roy.
The funeral was held Feb. 3 at the Evangel Baptist Church in Clubb with Rev. Virgil Freyermuth officiating, assisted by Rev. Howard Street and music provided by Ken Moon and Marilee Ostrander.
Pallbearers were Ken Moon, Bill Hayes, Dr. Gene Burris, Chuck Nichols, Paul Gauwitz and Dave Kintner. Burial was in Greenville Cemetery.
Services were under the direction of Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Greenville. 

Alice B. Borders
Alice B. Borders, 78, died Jan. 28, 2001 at Three Rivers Healthcare South in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
She was born March 9, 1922 in Des Arc, daughter of the late Roy and Bertha (Wheatley) Bess.
She married Jasper Kelley and to this union three children were born, Kelly, Gertie and Butch. Mr. Kelly preceded her in death. She later married John Ellis Borders and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of the Patterson Baptist Church, baptized Dec. 12, 1993.
Those surviving are a daughter, Alice Bowman, Peveley; stepson, James Borders, Des Arc; stepdaughter, Ruby Borders, Piedmont; brother, Johnny Bess, Tunica, Miss.
The funeral was held Jan. 31 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont with Bro. Dewel Smith officiating.
Pallbearers were Roy Stout, Sr., Dwight DeBoard, Melvin Moore and Gary Gramlich. Burial was in Collins Cemetery, Annapolis. 

Glenzil R. Nelson
Glenzil Ray Nelson, Dr., 57, died Feb. 1, 2001 in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
He was born June 29, 1943 in Torch, Mo., son of Iowa Nelson Pruyn of Farmington and the late Hiram Nelson.
He was united in marriage to Betty Pruyn March 7, 1963 in St. Louis and she survives, residing in Silva. Glenzil was a die caster for Bauman Engineering in Washington, Mo. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, Glen (Sheila) Nelson, Jr., Silva, Kevin Nelson, Jackson, Minn.; three sisters, Melva Gazaway, Farmington, Bonnie Ladato, Ladue, Kathy Stewart, St. Louis; three grandchildren.
The funeral was held Feb. 4 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel in Greenville with Rev. Kenneth Moon officiating.

Freida V. Miller
Freida Virginia Miller, 68, died Jan. 30, 2001 in Missouri Baptist Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.
She was born Jan. 9, 1933 in Piedmont, daughter of the late Donald and Doreatha (Grigery) Dean.
She was united in marriage to James T. Miller Sept. 2, 1955 and he survives. Freida was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Des Arc, serving as financial secretary. She worked as a secretary for ASARCO in Glover for many years.
She is survived by two sisters, Lola Luten, Delores Wright; two brothers, Carl and Donald Dean, all of Des Arc.
The funeral was held Feb. 3 at Bryson Funeral Home, Pilot Knob, with Rev. Donald Dement officiating. Pallbearers were Don Wright, Doug Bond, Leonard Dean, Shane Tarkington, Gerald Miller and Mark Hester. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery, Des Arc.

Alva E. Collins
Alva Eugene Collins, 37, of Piedmont, died Jan. 12, 2001 in Clarksville, Tenn.
He was born May 3, 1963 in St. Louis, Mo., son of the late Alva and Inez (Mansfield) Collins.
He was a construction worker by trade.

Pamela J. Kent
Pamela Jean Kent, 49, died March 31, 2001 at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
She was born Feb. 26, 1952 in Wood River, Ill, daughter of the late Earl and Mary (Rockwell) Haynes.
She married Johnny Lee Allen and he preceded her in death Feb. 18, 1994. She was united in marriage to Dennis Kent Sept. 5, 1995 and he survives, residing in Silva.
Pamela was employed at Greenville Health Care as a housekeeper. She was of the Protestant faith.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Natalie Hicks, Piedmont, Michelle Allen, Linda Jean Allen, both of Greenville; two sisters, Charlene Weekley, Greenville, Shirley Allen, Lowndes; stepson, Richard Allen, Advance; six grandchildren.
The funeral was held April 3 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Greenville with Bro. Brian Cooper and Bro. Ray Green officiating and music by Lori Clubb, Brian Cooper and Lori Griffin.

Kenneth W. Johnson
Kenneth Wayne Johnson, 63, died March 25, 2001 in Farmington, Mo.
He was born June 30, 1937 in Pitchford, Okla., son of the late Paris and Elva (Sutton) Johnson.
He served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Kenneth was a correctional officer for Farmington Correctional Center. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
He is survived by two sons, James (Janice) Johnson, Piedmont, Danny (Sindy) Johnson, Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Hope (Steve) Essner, Cape Girardeau, Tina (Brent) Clark, Nixa; three brothers, Nolan Johnson, West Plains, Dean and Keith Johnson, both of Thayer; fiancee, Donna Rhoden, Farmington; nine grandchildren.
The funeral was held March 27 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Rev. Dale Skiles officiating. Burial was in Cave Springs Cemetery, Alton.

James O. Wyatt
James Orbrey Wyatt, 73, died March 19, 2001 at John Cochran VA Medical Center in St. Louis, Mo.
He was born June 6, 1927 in Dover, Tenn., son of the late Allen and Eldie (Heflin) Wyatt.
He married Mary Magdalene "Maggie" Ramshur Oct. 26, 1946 and she survives, residing in Piedmont. Jim served in the Navy for 21 years, retiring with the rank of E-6. He was the owner of Maggie's Restaurant in Piedmont for 16 years. He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of Masonic Lodge AF & AM.
He is survived by three sons, Lawrence Wyatt, Thomas Wyatt, both of Piedmont, James Wyatt, Des Arc; four daughters, Donna Ledbetter, Sheila Jerome, Brenda Wheelehon, Glenda Rainwater, all of Piedmont; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
A Masonic service was performed March 21 and the funeral was held March 22 at Ruegg Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Usher officiating.
Serving their grandfather as pallbearers were Gary Ledbetter, Jamie Wyatt, Zach Jones, Tommy Wyatt, Brent Wheelehon and Ryan Rainwater. Burial was in Masonic Cemetery in Piedmont.

Robert E. Adams
Robert Eugene Adams, 64, died March 27, 2001 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
He was born July 16, 1936 in Patterson, Mo., son of the late James and Augusta (Cline) Adams.
He married Bonnie Decker May 1, 1958 in Alton, Mo. and she survives, residing in West Plains. Robert was a welder by trade and of the Baptist faith.
Those surviving are two daughters, Rhonda McFarland, Charlotte Taylor, Allen Adams, Larry Adams, all of West Plains; four brothers, James Adams, St. Louis, Charles Adams, Festus, Harold Adams, Patterson, Johnny Adams, Oklahoma; four grandchildren.
The funeral was held March 31 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in West Plains with Pastor John W. Gerlach officiating. Burial was in Oak Lawn Cemetery in West Plains. 

Claude L. 'Jake' Joplin
Claude L. "Jake" Joplin, 75, died March 29, 2001 at his home in Greenville, Mo.
He was born March 4, 1926 in Greenville, son of the late Claude L. and Ethel (Stephens) Joplin.
He was united in marriage to Jo Hazel Kail at the First Christian Church in Poplar Bluff and she survives, residing in Greenville. 
Jake was a farmer and captain of the eastern district of the Missouri State Water Patrol. He was a member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge #107 AF & AM and Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. He attended the Grace United Methodist Church of Greenville. He served in the army during World War II with the 43rd Infantry in the Philippines. He was with the first occupational forces to enter Japan, where he earned several awards.
He is survived by one sister, Mary Cook, Greenville.
The funeral was held April 1 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Kent Wilfong officiating and music provided by Glendell Twidwell and Jeanette Turnbough.

Paul H. Baker
Paul H. Baker, 79, died March 27, 2001 in Madison Memorial Medical Center, Fredericktown, Mo.
He was born May 22, 1921 in Steele, Mo., son of the late Chester and Lela (Driskell) Baker.
He was united in marriage to Opal Amend Oct. 26, 1942 in Jefferson City and she survives, residing in Hiram.
Paul served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific. He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by four sons, Jerry and Larry Baker, both of Fredericktown, Richard Baker, Marble Hill, Paul E. Junior Baker, Clubb; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra Sue, who died in childhood.
The funeral was held March 30 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Greenville with Bro. Clifton Trentham and Bro. Eddie Baker officiating and music provided by Shannon and Vonnie.

Kenneth G. Sample
Kenneth Gerald Sample, Sr., 72, died April 2, 2001 at the Harry S. Truman MemorialVeterans Hospital in Columbia, Mo. 
He was born May 3, 1928 in Kennett, Mo, son of the late Lenzy and Minnie (Wright) Sample.
K.G., as he was known, was united in marriage to Marlene Sample for 33 years and she preceded him in death in 1992.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps when he was 16 and ended his military career with 851 combat missions. He was the recipient of the silver star, two bronze stars, three purple hearts and many expeditionary medals, totaling 23 in all. He worked for RCA, designing test systems for color TVs, taught electronics at Sears Youth Center in Poplar Bluff, taught for VoTech School in Arkansas. He returned to Wayne County after his retirement in 1980.
He was an active member in a number of Masonic Fraternities, including Greenville Lodge 107 and York Rite Bodies of Poplar Bluff. He held a number of high ranking titles.
Those surviving are two sons, Kenneth G. Sample, Jr., Kennett, Kevin B. Sample, Columbia; one daughter, Susan Thomason, Paragould, Ark.; eight grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter Renee Yvette Sample in 1972; 9 brothers and 3 sisters.
Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 8 at Parker Funeral Home, 22 N. 10th St, Columbia, Missouri. Masonic services will be held at 2:00 p.m., followed by traditional services. He is to be cremated and buried in Rucker Cemetery in Wayne Co. Missouri.

Mary L. Mabrey
Mary Leach Mabrey, 77, of Bonne Terre, died June 9, 2001 at St. Joe Manor in Bonne Terre.
She was born May 1, 1924 at Kime. Mrs. Mabrey was a homemaker and longtime resident of Butler County. She also lived near Patterson in Wayne County for several years. She was united in marriage to Carl Mabrey Sept. 9, 1944 and he preceded her in death March 2, 1993. She was a member of the South Poplar Bluff General Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sons, Bill Mabrey, St. Louis, Terry Mabrey, Pueblo West, Colo., Tim Mabrey, Colorado Springs, Colo.; three daughters, Doris Smither, Bonne Terre, Deborah Drake, Paragould, Ark., Dolores Gentry, Rockford, Ill.; six sisters, Doris Radesky, Waterviliet, Mich., Loraine Cotton, Las Cruses, N.M., Betty Stelter, South Bend, Ind., Essie Branch, Waterford, Mich., Verlene Hill, Wolcotoitte, Ind., Elaine Butler, Swansea, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held June 12 at Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff with Rev. Jeff Brawley officiating. Burial was in the city cemetery in Poplar Bluff.

Anna V. Fuytinck
Anna V. Fuytinck, 90, died May 24, 2001 at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
She was born March 25, 1911 at Rossville, Kan., daughter of the late Adam and Minnie (Ropp) Haywood.
She was united in marriage to Aloysious Frances Fuytinck June 6, 1929 and he preceded her in death Nov. 26, 1974. Anna was a homemaker and a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Piedmont.
She is survived by her children, Marie (Joe) Fleschute, Theresa Ann Fuytinck, all of Piedmont, Jeanette (Vic) Stephens, Coldwater; grandchildren, Thomas (Nancy) Reich, Lorraine (Nicky) Jones, Robert (Becky) Reich; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Ernest Haywood and her sister, Ella Mae Gilmore.
The funeral was held May 29 at Hoffmeister Mortuary in Lemay. Burial was in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Lemay.
Arrangements were under the direction of Hoffmeister Mortuary and Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont. 

Everett W. Crockett
Everett Warren Crockett, 87, died June 9, 2001 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
He was born Aug. 22, 1913, son of the late William and Liza (Rideout) Crockett. 
He was united in marriage to Virginia Van Sickle June 9, 1947 and she preceded him in death Oct. 15, 1987. He married Belle Hicks Nov. 17, 1988 and she survives, residing in Piedmont. Mr. Crockett worked for McKesson and Robbins as a maintenance man and was a member of the Faith Family Worship Center in Piedmont.
Mr. Crockett is survived by two sons, Chester Crockett, Piedmont, Cecil Crockett, Chelsea, Maine; one daughter, Carol Lewis, DeSoto; one sister, Dorothy Hall, Doniphan; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Susan Crockett; one sister, Esther Frederick; one brother, Leonard Crockett; one grandson, Sam Crockett.
The funeral was held June 12 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont with Rev. Wayne Street officiating and Lynn Street providing the music.
Pallbearers were Jeremy Lewis, Davey Lewis, Cecil Crockett and Dave Lewis. Burial was in St. Matthews Cemetery, St. Louis. 

Warren A. Johnson
Warren Andrew Johnson, 79, died June 7, 2001 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
He was born Feb. 13, 1922 at Waynesville, son of the late James and Prudence (Shockley) Johnson.
He was united in marriage to Ella Melissa Malone April 18, 1942 and she survives, residing in Patterson. Warren was a World War II veteran and a manager at Clearwater Manufacturing Company. After his retirement, he was a cattle farmer. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by a daughter, Dena Tooke, Piedmont; two grandsons, Ryan and Aaron Tooke. 
The graveside service was held June 9 at Masonic Cemetery with Bro. Dan Ross presiding.
Pallbearers were Ryan Tooke, Aaron Tooke, Glen Tooke, David Rose, Scott Rayfield and J. J. Miller.
Arrangements were under the direction of Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont.

Lisa M. Wren
Lisa Marie Wren, 29, died June 6, 2001 at Greenville Healthcare in Greenville, Mo.
She was born Aug. 7, 1971 in St. Louis, Mo., daughter of Linda Schumer of Perryville and Richard Stafford of Wichita, Kan. and they survive.
She married Howard Wren, Jr. July 15, 1988 and he survives, residing in Hiram. Lisa worked as a CNA for Greenville Nursing Center and attended the New Hope General Baptist Church in Silva.
In addition to her husband and parents, Lisa is survived by two children, Nicholas and Amber Wren, both of the home; two brothers, Richard Stafford, Wichita, Kan., Duke Stafford, St. Louis; three sisters, Teresa Helberg, Medford, Wisc., Tonya Bruce, Billie Jo Bruce, both of Perryville; her grandmother, Lillie Miller, Pocahontas, Ill

Elma N. Gottstein
Elma Norine Gottstein, 75, formerly of Poplar Bluff, died July 15, 2001 at the Trinidad State Nursing Home in Trinidad, Colo.
She was born June 6, 1926 in Model, Colo. She loved children, enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting and cooking. She was a member of the Westwood Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff.
She is survived by one son, Boyd Gottstein; one sister, Sylvia Montoya; two grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild, all of Trinidad.
The funeral was held July 20 at Westwood Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Proctor officiating. Burial was in Crossroads Cemetery in Wayne County. Arrangements were under the direction of Cotrell Funeral Service.

Hollis R. 'Jake' Wallace
Hollis Richard "Jake" Wallace, 93, died July 22, 2001 at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
He was born Sept. 12, 1907 in Mill Spring, Mo., son of the late Robert Edwin and Gertrude (Roark) Abbot Wallace.
He was united in marriage to Carrie Ruby Smith Feb. 20, 1927 and she survives, residing in Piedmont. Mr. Wallace was a retired carpenter from the St. Louis area. He was a charter member of the Ijames Hill General Baptist Church, where he served as deacon for over 60 years.
He is survived by three sons, Eddie Lee Wallace, Lemay, Wilburn Eugene Wallace, Paul Darrel Wallace, both of Piedmont; two sisters, Pauline Hillis, Piedmont, Mazie Kundert, Arnold; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were one son, Hollis Winfred Wallace; two daughters-in-law, Virginia "Jenny" and Charlotte Wallace; two brothers, Charles "Bus" Wallace, Woodrow Wallace; three half-brothers, Perry and James Wallace, Roy Abbot; two sisters, Valda Hooper, Ruby Risinger; eight half-sisters, Hattie, Artie, Mattie, Ollie, Ora, Florence, Bertha and Lovie.
The funeral was held July 24 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, with Rev. Carl Boyer officiating and music provided by J. L. Moss, Fred Handy, Darrel and Sherry Silvy, and Frances Thurman, pianist.

Darwin D. Ford
Darwin Dale Ford, 62, died July 22, 2001 at his residence in Annapolis.
He was born June 29, 1939 in Annapolis, son of the late John L. and Mamie (Mann) Ford Sr.
He served in the United States Army during the Berlin crisis.
Mr. Ford is survived by five sisters, Carmen Rudanovich, Arnold, Eunisa E. Bond, Centralia, Ill., Carnelia Lueddecke, Piedmont, Judy Ford, Lana Gaston, both of Connecticut; two brothers, John Ford Jr., Annapolis, Wayne Ford, Weldon Springs.

She married Floyd Allen and he preceded her in death.
She is survived by one son, Floyd (Maureen) Allen, Norwalk, Calif.; sister, Berniece Faries, Alton, Ill.; grandson, F. Ray Allen; special friend, Al Kirby.
Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Cypress, Calif. 

Myrtle M. Eads
Myrtle Marie Eads. 79, died July 20, 2001 in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
She was born July 18, 1922 in Patterson, Mo., daughter of the late William and Dillie (Allen) Payton.
She was united in marriage to Billie Eads July 19, 1939 in Piedmont and he survives, residing in Piedmont. She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Those surviving are four children, Ronald Eads, Piedmont, Betty Schrader, Imperial, Steven Eads, Piedmont, Janice Hanson, Pine River, Minn.; six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one young son; four brothers, Roy, Carroll, Vernon and Bill Payton; one sister, Virgie Henderson.
The funeral was held July 22 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Piedmont, with Bill Barker officiating.

Roberta Lynn Mell King
Roberta Lynn Mell King, 48, died July 18, 2001 at her home in Maplewood, Mo.
She was born Nov. 27, 1952 in Poplar Bluff, Mo., daughter of Marie Mell Hinkle of Piedmont and the late Norman Mell.
She married John King April 24, 1982 and he survives, residing in St. Louis. Roberta was a 1970 graduate of Clearwater High School.
In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by three children, Angela King, Columbia, Amanda King, Fenton, Kevin King, Crestwood; stepfather, Dale Hinkle, Piedmont; one sister, Melba Kinnamore, Piedmont; five grandchildren, Andrea Boykin, Aireonna and Sierra Key, Daniel and Destiny King.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman and Howard Mell.
The funeral was held July 21 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Piedmont, with Rev. Clarence J. Casteel and Rev. Gary Rhodes officiating and music provided by Gary and Joy Rhodes.

Retha Rene Callahan, 45, died July 20, 2001 in Piedmont, Mo. as a result of an automobile accident.
She was born July 29, 1955 in Campbell, Mo., daughter of Fred and Melba (Green) Boeckman, who survive, residing in Campbell.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by four daughters, Rainna (Brad) Barnett, Bernie, Vhonda Lee (Mitchell) Mann, Ellington, Crystal Lewis, Ellington, Andrea (Scot) Massie, Okinawa, Japan; one son, Donald J. Callahan, Ellington; two sisters, Jean Bawmer, St. Charles, Kay Kerperien, St. Louis; one brother, Fred Boeckman, Arnold; 13 grandchildren.
The funeral was held July 26 at Landess Funeral Home, Campbell. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Elmer L. Brown
Elmer L. Brown, 70, died July 18, 2001.
He was born Sept. 28, 1930 in St. Louis, Mo., son of the late Edna Anna and Grover Cleveland Brown. He married Dorthy Jarrett of Mill Spring Feb. 14, 1952 and she survives, residing in St. Ann, Mo. Mr. Brown worked for Ozark Airlines and TWA for 40 years.
He is survived by one son, Elmer Eugene Brown; one daughter, Deborah Sue (Steven) Steward; four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Lee Brown.
The funeral was held July 23 at Alexander Funeral Home, St. Louis. Burial was at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.

Helen B. Barnhart
Helen Bernice Barnhart. 84, died Oct. 2, 2001 in St. Louis, Mo.
She was born Aug. 22, 1917 in Hiram, Mo., daughter of the late Richard and Mary (Barrett) Barnhart.
Helen made her living as a beautician for many years. She attended the Greenville Methodist Church.
Those surviving include one brother, Otto Barnhart, Hiram; one sister, Betty Burton, Poplar Bluff; two nephews, Carl Barnhart, Michael Burton.
The funeral was held Oct. 4 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Kent Wilfong officiating.
Pallbearers were Steve Barnhart, Carl Barnhart, Bill Hopkins, Gene Hopkins, Doyle Middleton and Jim Ruegg. Burial was in Cowan Cemetery, Hiram.

Homer Wilson
Homer Wilson, 76, died Oct. 2, 2001 in Farmington, Mo.
He was born May 27, 1925 in Burkburnett, Texas, son of the late Luther and Vera (Fletcher) Wilson.
He married Helen Turpin Jan. 25, 1950 in Senath, Mo. and she survives, residing in Piedmont. Homer was a retired auto mechanic. He served in the army in Korea from 1950 to 1951.
He is survived by one son, Rickie (Nancy) Wilson, Farmington; two daughters, Rachel Wilson, Desloge, Dianne (Larry) Nash, Bonne Terre; one brother, John Wilson, East Tawas, Mich.; three sisters, Robbie Walls, Clubb, Aline Blackburn, St. Louis, Nora Mae Tullock, St. Louis; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Ocie Millholland; two brothers, George and Oscar Wilson.
The funeral was held Oct. 4 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel in Piedmont with Rev. Ronnie Graham officiating.
Pallbearers were Mark Wilson, Morman Wilson, Eric Wilson, Randy Wilson, Jason Cook and Mike Whitehead. Burial was in Knob Lick Cemetery with military honors provided by the Missouri Honor Guard from Cape Girardeau. 

Myrtle May Hopkins
Myrtle May Hopkins, 94, died Oct. 1, 2001 at Three Rivers Healthcare South, Poplar Bluff, Mo.
She was born May 17, 1907 in Chaonia, Mo., daughter of the late Samuel and Martha (Lovins) Critchfield.
She was united in marriage to William Henry Hopkins in July of 1932 and he preceded her in death March 11, 1964. Mrs. Hopkins was a homemaker and a member of the Cross Roads General Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Wanda May Bennett, Lowndes, Uvonne Elizabeth Bollinger, Greenville; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were four sons, Otis, William, J.L. and Samuel Hopkins; one daughter, Yvonne Rohan; one grandson, Windell Rohan; one great-granddaughter, Serena Rohan.
The funeral was held Oct. 4 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Greenville with Bro. Dallas Merriman officiating and music by Gail ad Scott Payne, Earl and Kathy Elfrink.
Serving as pallbearers for their grandmother were Henry Hopkins, Eddie Walk, Joe Bennett, Henry J. Hopkins, Tommy Rohan, Adam Bennett, Jerry Rohan and Bradley Rohan. Burial was in Cross Roads Cemetery, Greenville.

Minerva 'Mae' Gooch
Minerva "Mae" Gooch, 100, died Oct. 3, 2001 at Clark's Mountain Nursing Center in Piedmont, Mo.
She was born Oct. 13, 1900 in Ellsinore, Mo., daughter of the late John and Cora Belle (Sechreast) Boyer.
She was united in marriage to Walter H. Gooch April 8, 1917 in Ellsinore and he preceded her in death Jan. 26, 1957. Mrs. Gooch had made Mill Spring her home since moving from St. Louis in 1956. She was a homemaker, who enjoyed gardening, sewing and reading. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are two sons, William (JoAnn) Gooch, Robert (Barbara) Gooch, all of Mill Spring; one daughter, Evalyn (Homer) Robertson, Ozark, Ala.; one brother, Ivory Boyer, Ellsinore; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, John Gooch, Willis Gooch; one daughter, Hellen Gooch.
The funeral was held Oct. 7 at McSpadden Funeral Home in Ellsinore officiated by Rev. Donald Beach, Jr. Burial was in Whites Mill Cemetery.

Howard 'Larry' Kelly
Howard Lawrence "Larry" Kelley, 38, died Oct. 5, 2001 near Des Arc, Mo.
He was born July 6, 1963 in St. Louis, Mo., son of James L. Kelley of Ironton and the late Linda Ruth (Lee) Kelley.
Larry attended the Annapolis Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of the Arcadia Valley Elks Lodge. He served in the United States Army.
In addition to his father, he is survived by one daughter, Linda Ruth Kelley, Des Arc; stepmother, Joyce Kelley, Ironton, one sister, Patty Campbell, Grand Rapids, Mich.; one brother, Stacy Kelley, Cape Girardeau.
The funeral was held Oct. 9 at Bryson Funeral Home with Rev. Clarence Casteel officiating. Burial was in Mt. View Cemetery in Des Arc.

Willis H. Nash
Willis Harvey Nash, 57, died Oct. 6, 2001 at Greenville Health Care in Greenville, Mo.
He was born Feb. 13, 1944 in Graniteville, Mo., son of the late Kelly Lee and Francis (Ford) Nash.
He married Dessie Marie Brooks June 7, 1975 and she survives, residing in Piedmont. He worked at the Sheltered Workshop in Piedmont.
He is survived by three brothers, William and Clarence Nash, both of Ironton, Charles Nash, Festus; three sisters, Melba Bone, Etta Boyer, Ellen Green, all of Ironton; four half-sisters, Ovalee Bone, Graniteville, Mary Sumpter, Doe Run, Lillian Moore, Belleville, Eva Rickmar, Bismarck.
The funeral was held Oct. 9 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont with Rev. Gary Rhodes officiating and music provided by Jerry Turner, Clearwater School Choir, and Dana Buxton.

Raymon L. Cothern
Raymon Loyd Cothern, 70, died Oct. 1, 2001 at his home in St. Clair, Mo.
He was born Oct. 28, 1930 in Maxville, Mo., son of the late Sherman and Edna (Lucas) Cothern.
He married Betty Jo (Yates) Bunyard June 29, 1962 and she survives. Raymon served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as a mechanic and machinist. He was a great sportsman, loving to hunt and fish. He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by five sons, Raymon Cothern II, Arnold, Roy Cothern, High Ridge, Matthew Cothern, St. Clair, Dale Bunyard, Williamsville, Doug Bunyard, St. Clair; one daughter, Sherri Mabrey, St. Louis; one brother, Dan Cothern, DeSoto; 13 grandchildren.

Sylvia N. Miller
Sylvia Nadine Miller, 85, died Nov. 27, 2001 in Piedmont, Mo.
She was born July 4, 1916 in Shook, Mo., daughter of the late Cornelius and Martha (Bennett) Helm.
She married Raymond Miller Sept. 7, 1932 and he preceded her in death June 21, 1993. She had been a caser at Brown Show Co. Mrs. Miller attended the United Baptist Church of Piedmont.
She is survived by three sons, Donald Miller, Ellsinore, Kenneth Miller, Ron Miller, both of Mill Spring; two daughters, Alma Kleisner, Mary Woods, both of Piedmont; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Nov. 30 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont with Elder Darrel Silvy officiating and music by Genice and Sean Montgomery and Virgie Miller.
Serving their grandmother as pallbearers were Mike Miller, David Miller, Keith Miller, Wayne Woods, Bob Kleisner and Jeff Kleisner. Burial was in Carson Hill Cemetery, Mill Spring.

Carl M. Hinkle
Carl Melvin Hinkle, 96, died Dec. 2, 2001 at Delmar Gardens on the Green in Chesterfield, Mo.
He was born Sept. 6, 1905 in Brunot, Mo., son of the late Frank and Bertha (Deboard) Hinkle.
He was united in marriage to Stella M. Brewington in September of 1933 and she preceded him in death Dec. 19, 1999. He worked for Ford Motor Company in St. Louis and was affiliated with Beulah Baptist Church in Brunot.
He is survived by one son, Truman "Pete" Joe Hinkle, Piedmont; four daughters, Alma Luedloff, Manchester, Kathy Thomas, Belleville, Ill., Marilyn Gentemann, O'Fallon, Carolyn Dake, High Ridge; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Dec. 4 at Beulah Baptist church with Rev. Scott Hill officiating and music by Elsie Tumey and Sherry Parker.
Pallbearers were Tim Dake, Steve Fite, Eric Fite, Jim Thomas, Ken Bertelsman and Jon Brown, Burial was in Beulah Cemetery.

James A. Watts
James Albert Watts, 53, died Dec. 3, 2001 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
He was born Jan. 10, 1948 in Perry County, Pa., son of Clayton and Mabel (Comp) Watts.
He was united in marriage to Shirley Frymire Dec. 31, 1968 in Lutesville and she survives, residing in Marquand. James was a member of the U.S. Army, serving in Viet Nam from 1965 -1968 and was a member of Disabled American Veterans. He was a retired exterminator for Bradford Pest Control and a member of McGee Chapel.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Darla Fincher, Patterson; two sisters, Josephine Smeal, Gloria Capel, one brother, Boyd Watts, all of Pennsylvania.
The funeral will be held Dec. 6 at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill with Rev. Lloyd Ray Green officiating. Burial will be in Perry County, Pa.

Coyle Hamilton
Coyle Hamilton, 87, died Jan. 17, 2002 in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
He was born April 8, 1914 in McLeansboro, Ill., son of the late C. J. and Lola (Hooker) Hamilton.
He was united in marriage to Katherine Daniel May. 23, 1937 and she survives, residing in Piedmont. He was a meat cutter with Ward's and later Piedmont IGA until his retirement. Mr. Hamilton was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Piedmont, having recently received his 50-year pin. He was a member of the Eastern Star and the First Baptist Church in Piedmont.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Marilyn (Jack) Little, Wilmington, Del.; two sisters, Iva McCormick, Ironton, Coline Steininger, Boone, Iowa; sister-in-law, Sheila Lovelace, Piedmont; two grandchildren, David and Mark Little; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Cristiana Little; nieces and nephews, Jim Sutton, Bonnie Suss, Marlene Cornwall, Terry McCormick, Joe Wayne McCormick.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother.
The funeral was held Jan. 21 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel in Piedmont with Rev. Jim Stewart officiating and music provided by Oresta Atnip, Glendell Twidwell and Jeanette Turnbough.

Pearl Allen
Laura "Pearl" Allen, 82, died Jan. 24, 2002 at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
She was born April 17, 1919 in Piedmont, Mo., daughter of the late Benjamin and Cordelia (Leach) Chiles.
She was united in marriage to Lionel W. Allen April 17, 1935 and he preceded her in death March 3, 1978. Pearl was a homemaker and a member of New Liberty United Baptist Church in Piedmont for many years before transferring her membership to the First United Baptist Church in St. Louis. 
She is survived by four sons, Daniel (Norma) Allen, Fenton, Forrest (Shirley) Allen, Maryland Heights, Willis Allen, St. Ann, Dale (Evelyn) Allen, Woodstock, Ga.; two brothers, Earl Chiles, Lemay, Raymond Chiles, Williamsville; nine grandsons; four great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Jan. 26 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, with Elder Bob Webb and Elder Elmer Parker officiating and music by the Community Choir and Daphne Hershey.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, Jim, Jeff, Aaron, Justin, Scottie and Forrest Allen, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Robert and Chris Allen. Burial was in New Liberty Cemetery, Piedmont.

Myra Lee
Myra Jean Lee, 41, died Jan. 12, 2002 in St. Louis, Mo.
She was born Sept. 6, 1960 in St. Louis, daughter of Jesse Birmingham of Greenville and Dolores Lee Altgilbers of Dyer, Tenn.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sons, Justin and Jesse Dale Spruell, both of DeSoto; five brothers, Kevin Bodecker, Ft. Campbell, Ky., Mark Summers, Dyer, Tenn., Wayne Birmingham, Clubb, Craig Birmingham, Greenville, Cody Birmingham, Cape Girardeau; one sister, Fawn McCaig, Greenfield, Tenn.

Wilbern Carl Walls
Wilbern Carl Walls, 76, died Jan. 26, 2002 at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
He was born Feb. 4, 1925 in Senath, Mo., son of the late Thomas and Gracie (Flowers) Walls.
He married Robby Wilson May 16, 1944 and she survives, residing in Clubb. Mr. Walls served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He had been a custodian for Caterpillar Company in Peoria, Ill. He was of the Protestant faith.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Ed Walls, Clubb, Danny Walls, Annapolis; two daughters, Betty Portscheller, Morton, Ill., Donna Calhoun, Silva; one sister, Lorene Johnson, Browns, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Tom and Connie Walls; one brother, Bob Walls; and two sisters.
The funeral was held Jan. 29 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Greenville, with Rev. Gary Aubuchon officiating and music by Jeanie Hensley, Judy Osborn and Laurie Griffin.
Pallbearers were Eddie Walls, Daniel Walls, Joseph Portscheller, Matthew Portscheller, Ken O'Dell and Gene Stroder. Burial was in Greenville Cemetery with military honors. 

Joyce Rayfield
Joyce Rayfield, 88, died Jan. 22, 2002 in Columbia, Tenn.
She was born in Reynolds County, Mo., daughter of the late William and Minnie (Brewer) McMurry.
She was united in marriage to James Beacher Rayfield and he preceded her in death in 1991. She was a longtime resident of the St. Louis area, a homemaker and a member of the Jackson Heights Church of Christ. She was a charter member of the Moline Acres Garden Club in St. Louis and a member of the Maury County Senior Citizens.
She is survived by one daughter, Doris (Gordon) Beck, Columbia, Tenn.; two sons, James (Betty) Rayfield, St. Louis, Robert (Janice) Rayfield, Springfield, Mo.; one sister, Sallie Dement, Greenville, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
Her grandsons served their grandmother as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the elders and deacons of Jackson Heights Church of Christ, Dr. Stephen Simmons, Thelton and Normarene Hill and Clifton Kelley.

Loretta L. Palmer
Loretta Lestis Palmer, 66, died Jan. 20, 2002 at her home in O'Fallon, Mo.
She was born May 26, 1935 in Clay Starry County, Ark., daughter of the late Clayton Bradish.
She is survived by three sons, Arthur Cagle, Phillip Cagle, both of Pensacola, Fla., Charley Morgan, Alton, Ill.; three daughters, Clara Grim, Pensacola, Fla., Pamela and Virginia; four sisters, Dorothy Austin, Hillsboro, Ill., Rita Reedy, Pana, Ill., Judy Castillo, Witt, Ill. Marjie Poole, Springfield, Ill.; two brothers, Clayton Bradish, Jr., Marissa, Ill., Charles Bradish, Waynesville.
The funeral was held at Baue Chapel of O'Fallon. Burial was in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis.

Cecil Leroy Chubb
Cecil Leroy Chubb, 62, died Jan. 24, 2002 in Irving, Texas.
He was born April 13, 1939 in Rhodes, Mich., son of the late John and Leona (Rogers) Chubb.
He was a Navy veteran and retired from Seagate Technologies in Oklahoma City, where he lived for over 35 years. He was a former resident of Greenville and a member of the Community Church of Christ in Lowndes.
Mr. Chubb is survived by one son, Robert (Manuela) Chubb, Irving, Texas; one daughter, Renda Chubb, Tulsa, Okla.; one brother, Roger Chubb; one sister, Patsy Charles, Defiance.
The funeral was held Jan. 28 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Greenville, with Bro. Jack Rogers and Bro. Dale Rogers officiating. Music was provided by Roy Rogers and the Community Church of Christ choir.
Pallbearers were Leo Charles, Chris Charles, Randy Charles, Curt Billingsley, Stanley Chubb and Matthew Chubb. Burial was in the Community Church of Christ Cemetery in Lowndes.

Hilda E. Bollinger
Hilda E. Bollinger, 86, died Jan. 26, 2002 in St. Louis, Mo.
She was born Nov. 7, 1915 in Hiram, Mo., daughter of the late Rhett and Ora (Hill) Ward.
She married George D. Bollinger Sept. 17, 1935 and he preceded her in death Feb. 19, 1998. She was a retired waitress from the former Stix, Baer and Fuller Tearoom in St. Louis after 50 years of service. Mrs. Bollinger was a member of the Hanley Road Baptist Church in St. Louis.
She is survived by one daughter, Dorothy (Richard) Daily, Olivett; her brother, Roy (Mildred) Ward, Hiram.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Winford Ward.
The graveside services were held Jan. 30 with Rev. Slade Johnson and Mike Ward officiating. Burial was in the Twidwell Cemetery, Clubb.
Arrangements were under the direction of Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Greenville. 

Clinton G. Sweazea
Clinton Gray Sweazea, 83, died Jan. 18, 2002 in Atlanta, Ga.
He was born in 1918 in Piedmont, Mo., son of the late Elmer and Leila Sweazea. He graduated from Piedmont High School in 1936.
He was united in marriage to Sarah Ann "Sally" Frith of New Orleans, La. and she preceded him in death. 
He is survived by one daughter, Juliana Sweazea; one son, Alan Hunter Sweazea, both of Atlanta.
Mr. Sweazea earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Missouri in 1940 and a second lieutenant, infantry in the U.S. Army Reserve. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Air Force between 1941 and 1945. After pilot training, he was an instructor in B-26 medium bombers and flew 22 combat missions in Europe. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and was discharged as a captain. 
Mr. Sweazea worked for Delta Airlines for 40 years. He was regional manager, Caribbean with headquarters in Havana, Cuba until the Castro revolution, when he transferred to Atlanta and retired as assistant vice-president public affairs and public relations in 1986. He was a member of Saint Anne's Episcopal Church, past president of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, Atlanta alumni chapter, the Cherokee Town and Country Club, Buckhead Business Association, cofounder and past chairman of the Aero Club of metropolitan Atlanta, past chairman of the public affairs committee of the Air Transport Association of America, past chairman of the southeast public affairs group of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States, past chairman of the local and state affairs committee and past chairman of the governmental department of the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, member of the board of directors of both the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce and the South Fulton Chamber of Commerce, cofounder of the Atlanta Public Affairs Council. 
Private services were held under the direction of H.M. Patterson & Son, Arlington Chapel. 

Jessie L. Burks
Jessie La'Rae Burks, 58, of Clinton, Md., died Dec. 27, 2001 at Southern Regional Maryland Hospital in Clinton, Md.
She was born Feb. 10, 1943 in St. Louis, Mo., daughter of the late James and Emma (Austin) Allen
She was a color photo analyst for ABC photo labs. She was of the Christian faith.
She is survived by her son, Timothy Burks, Remington, Va.; one brother, Jim Allen, St. Peters.
The graveside services were held Jan. 4 at Clay Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Dan Usher. Pallbearers were Tim Burks, Jim Allen, Gene Sutton, Alex Ruegg, Robert Faulkner and Al Wills.

Madge L. Renn
Madge Lucille Renn, 90, died Jan. 23, 2002 at the home of her daughter in Piedmont, Mo.
She was born Sept. 11, 1911 in Pinkneyville, Ill., daughter of the late James and Mary Owen.
She was united in marriage to Mellie Renn in 1931 at White County, Ill. and he preceded her in death June 25, 1984. Mrs. Renn had been a member of Victory Baptist Temple since 1989. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by three daughters, Beverly (Raymond) Campbell, Portage, Ind., Martha (Michael) Hernandez, Gary, Ind., Mary Elizabeth Nicholson, Piedmont; three brothers, James Owen, Centralia, Ill., Nelson Owen, Mehlville, Ind., David Owen, McLeansboro, Ill; one sister, Wanda Miller, McLeansboro, Ill.; seven grandchildren; one adopted grandchild; 20 great-grandchildren; two adopted great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

Henry W. Matthews
Henry W. Matthews, 99, died Jan. 21, 2002 in Silva, Mo.
He was born Dec. 1, 1902 in Cornwall, Mo., son of the late Charley and Jane (Berry) Matthews.
He married Gretchen Bennett March 7, 1925 and she preceded him in death March 17, 1997. Mr. Matthews worked as a sawyer in a sawmill and for Corregan Construction in St. Louis before his retirement. He attended White Hollow Church in Silva.
Those surviving are one son, Paul (June) Matthews, Lebanon, Tenn.; two daughters, Ruby (Harold) Smith, Silva, Beatrice (Jack) Robinson, Ellington; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Elmer Mouser, two sisters, Esther Hitzeman, Pearl Cook.
The funeral was held Jan. 24 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Greenville, with Rev. Elijah Bennett and Rev. Clinton Massa officiating. James Ruegg read the obituary. Music was provided by Burnett Bennett, Becky Hicks, Rena Robinson and Linda Bennett. 
Pallbearers were grandsons Douglas Peck, Richard Peck, Bobby Bennett, Glen Robinson, Brian Matthews and Tim Robinson. Burial was in Bennetts Creek Cemetery, Lodi. 

Grace Lavender
Grace Lavender, 91, died March 27, 2002 at Charlevoix Nursing Home in St. Charles, Mo.
She was born Sept. 10, 1910 in Des Arc, Mo., daughter of the late Jess and Stella Johnson.
She married William Lavender and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of Winds of Pentecost Church.
She is survived by two sons, Stanley King, St. Charles, Donald Engledow, Columbia; one daughter, Lora M. Bauman, St. Charles; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held March 29 at Baue Funeral Home. Burial was in Friedens Evangelical Cemetery, St. Louis.

Carl E. Lane
Carl Edwin Lane, 67, died May 27, 2002 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
He was born Nov. 22, 1934 in Mill Spring, Mo., son of the late Carl Sr. and Katie (Moss) Lane.
He was married to Linda L. Hamm in January of 1986 and she survives, residing in Piedmont. Mr. Lane owned and operated health clubs in Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas and Missouri before his retirement in 1989.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Patrick Lane, Dallas, Texas; one daughter, Carla Crabtree, Olatha, Kan.; one brother, Larry Lane, Lincoln, Neb.; seven grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service 1 p.m. Friday, May 31, at Sam A. Baker State Park.
Arrangements were by Ford and Sons Funeral Home, Cape Girardeau.

Phillip O. Hughes
Phillip O. Hughes, Sr., 77, of Green River, Wyo., died May 22, 2002 at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County, Wyo.where he had been hospitalized for two days. He had been ill for two months.
He was born Dec. 25, 1924 in Piedmont, Mo., son of the late Rev. Ottis and Osa (Buck) Hughes.
He married Alma Chatman June 3, 1951 in Harviell, Mo. and she survives, residing in Green River.
He had been a resident of Wyoming since 1960, a resident of Green River since 1972 and a former resident of Missouri.
He attended schools in Patterson and graduated from Patterson High School in 1941. He attended the University of Missouri and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture. He later attended the University of North Carolina and earned a master's degree in public health in 1958.
Mr. Hughes served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army.
He was a Bird Colonel in the Commissioned Officer Corps of the United States Public Health service. 
He was employed by the State of Wyoming Health Department as a state sanitarian for 28 years, retiring in 1987.
Mr. Hughes was a member of the Monroe Avenue Baptist Church where he served as deacon for many years. 
He had been a member of the Hopewell Masonic Lodge No. 239 in Lesterville. He was an avid hunter.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Jonathan R. Hughes, Green River; two daughters, Phyllis Hughes, Green rivers, Rebecca Morris, Wausau, Wisc.; one brother, David (Sue) Hughes, St. Louis; four sisters, Sylvia Lane, Piedmont, Melba Bob) Bennett, Patterson, Juanita (Bob) McMahan, Piedmont, Ruth (Marvin) Darden, Patterson; sister-in-law, Pearlie Pendergrass, Nipomo, Calif.; two granddaughters, Porsha Hutson, Green River, Grace Morris, Wausau, Wisc.; two grandsons, William Morris, Ethan Phillip Morris, both of Wausau.
He was preceded in death by his son, Phillip O. Hughes II; four brothers, Herbert, Arvel, Wayne and Earl Hughes.
The funeral was held May 25 at Monroe Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Black officiating. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Green River. 

Richard Stafford
Richard Stafford, 60, of Wichita, Kan., was born April 22, 1942 and died April 24, 2002.
Those surviving are three sons, Richard W. Stafford, Wichita, Duke E. Stafford, Perryville, Scott Stafford, Rose Bud; two daughters, Teresa Helberg, Medford, Wis., Rhonda of Shelbyville, Ind.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa Marie Wren.
The memorial service was held May 26 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Greenville, with Rev. Dan Ross officiating. Burial was in Camp 8 Cemetery, Greenville.

Jesse F. Mabury
Jesse F. Mabury, Jr., 80, of Fayette, Ala., died March 2, 2002 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
He was born March 10, 1921, son of the late Jesse and Leona (Wilson) Mabury.
He was married to Loretta, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Mabury was a WWII veteran, serving in France, Italy, Germany, the Philippines and Korea. He worked for the Missouri State Forestry Department and resided in Piedmont. He also worked for Weyerhauser Company in Mississippi and Alabama. He served as deacon for the Fayette First Baptist Church, where he was a member for 44 years.
He is survived by one son, Gary Mabury, Tuscaloosa; one daughter, Barbara Ayres, Maiden, N.C.; two brothers, Bob Mabury, Patterson, Rev. Bill Mabury, Blytheville, Ark.; two sisters, Margaret Brooks, Blytheville, Peggy Howard, Harrison, Ark.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held March 6 at Fayette First Baptist Church with Bro. Jimmy Walker and Rev. Bill Mabury officiating.
Pallbearers were David Ayres, Shane Mabury, Ben Ayres, Tom Sain, Randy Doran, Josh Howard, Patrick Howard and Sam Collins. Honorary pallbearers were Arnie Howell, Doug Berry, L.C. Smith, Ray Holsomback, Buster Hallman and James Leonard. Burial was in Heritage Memorial Gardens.

Katherine B. Busch
Katherine Bertha Busch, 83, died May 21, 2002 at Three Rivers Healthcare South, Poplar Bluff, Mo.
She was born July 30, 1918 in St. Louis, Mo., daughter of the late Carl and Caroline (Huber) Guth.
She was united in marriage to Otto Busch Sept. 2, 1939 and he preceded her in death. 
Mrs. Busch was a homemaker and of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by one son, Rodney Busch, Greenville; one daughter, Jennifer Garrette, Greenville; three grandchildren, Dewey and Mark Busch, Jessica Keeven; four great-grandchildren, Diana, Emily and Douglas Busch, C. J. Keeven; two step-grandchildren, Julie Bradberry and Bobby Garrette.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Walter Charles Guth; one sister, Lucille Busch.
The graveside service was held May 25 at Cross Roads Cemetery, Greenville, with James M. Ruegg speaking.
Pallbearers were James M. Ruegg, Gary Gramlich and Terry Kincaid. 
Arrangements were under the direction of Ruegg Funeral Home, Greenville.

 Willard E. Jones
Willard Edward Jones, 89, of O'Fallon, formerly of Greenville, died on Feb. 11, 1999 at Arcadia Valley Hospital in Pilot Knob, Mo. Willard was born in Greenville on Feb. 3, 1910, son of the late William Jones and Esther (Twidwell) Jones. On Dec. 2, 1926 he was united in marriage to Ola Bell Collins and she preceded him in death May 9, 1998. Surviving are three sons, Clifford Jones of Winfield, Mo., Glen Jones of Bridgeton, Mo., and Ronald Jones of O'Fallon; one daughter, Marilyn Ferndo of Berkley; two brothers, Clarence and Vernon Jones, both of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Lorene Metcalf and June Taylor, both of Poplar Bluff; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchldren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter, Wilma Jones, and two brothers, Raymond and Clardy Jones. He was a carpenter for the Southern Cross Lumber Co., a member of Local 1596 of St. Louis, and of the Baptist faith. The funeral was at the Ruegg Chapel in Greenville, Feb. 13, 1999, at 2 p.m. Rev. Wayne Page officiated. Music was by Rob and Nancy Garrett, and Karen Hostenfeld, pianist. Pallbearers were Mike Hunter, David Jones, Gary Jones, Dennis Jones, Kenny Jones, Pat Jones, and Kevin Jones. Wilma R. Lashley
Wilma Ruth Lashley, 72, of Valley Park, Mo., died Feb. 9, 1999 in St. Louis. She was a retired shoe inspector with the Footwear Unlimited Shoe Factory at Fenton, Mo. Wilma was the daughter of the late Elmer and Myrtle Rose Doyle Allen, born March 22, 1926 in St. Louis. She was married Jan. 11, 1946 to Victor R. Lashley, Sr., and he preceded her in death on June 10, 1974. Survivors include nine children, Jack Lashley, Des Arc, Rose Ann Lashley, Barnhart, Vivian German, Des Arc, Victor Lashley, Jr., Des Arc, Erwin Lashley, High Ridge, Frances Lashley, Valley Park, Donald Lashley, Valley Park, Juanita Polk, Des Arc, Sandra Benson, Valley Park; one brother, Elmer Allen, Des Arc; one sister, Thelma Farmer, St. Louis; 23 grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one grandson, one great-grandson, and one brother, Oliver Lee Allen. She was baptized March 19, 1961 in St. Louis. Donald Kemmerling
Donald Wilford Kemmerling, age 70, died on Feb. 8, 1999 at his home in Piedmont, Mo. He was a tile setter in the residential business. He served in the Korean War and was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Piedmont. Donald was born on Nov. 20, 1928 in St. Louis, son of the late Lawrence Conrad Kemmerling and Florence Heil Kemmerling. On May 7, 1955 he married Mary Fitzsimons, and she survives. Also surviving is his son, Robert Donald Kemmerling of Lake Ozark, Mo; three daughters, Michaele Barley, Susan Florence Kemmerling and Christine Mary Kemmerling, all of St. Louis; brother, Lawrence Kemmerling and wife Janet of St. Louis; brother-in-law, Thomas Fitzsimons and wife Barbara of St. Louis; and eight grandchildren. Visitation was at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, Feb. 9, with Rosary held at 7 p.m. and Memorial Service at 9 a.m. Feb. 10 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church and Ortman Funeral Home, St. Louis, Feb. 10, 1999. Floy B. Taylor
Floy B. Taylor, age 94, died on Feb. 13, 1999 at Stockhoff Nursing Home in Fredericktown, Mo., where she was a resident. Floy was previously from Silva, Mo. She was previous owner of Silva Furniture Co. in Silva and a member of New Prospect Baptist Church in Silva. She was born on Sept. 4, 1904 in Hiram, Mo., daughter of the late Elige and Mary Susan Duncan Golden. On Jan. 7, 1971 she was united in marriage to Claude Taylor and he preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 1976. Surviving Floy is one foster-daughter, Diana McNeely of Irving, Texas; two sisters, Louise Ellinghouse of Fredericktown and Myrtle Hopkins of Marble Hill; four grandchildren, Robert, Sue, Bill and Barbara; nine great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral was Feb. 16, 1999 at 11 a.m. in the Ruegg Funeral Home of Greenville. Rev. William Morrow officiated, and music was by the New Prospect Church choir, Debbie Stevens, pianist. Hilda Ann Sisco
Hilda Ann Sisco, age 93, died Feb. 15, 1999 at Clark's Mountain Nursing Center in Piedmont She was the daughter of the late James and Martha (Secrease) Raymer, born Dec. 29, 1905 at Ellsinore, Mo. She was a lifetime resident of the Ellsinore area, a homemaker and a member of the Harmony General Baptist Church. On March 14, 1923, she was united in marriage to Robert Lee Sisco at Ellsinore, and he preceded her in death on March 4, 1974. She was also preceded in death by one son, Jim Sisco of Lake St. Louis; one daughter, Opal Marie Hartley. Survivors include one son, Sonnie Sisco of Lake St. Louis, Mo; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Feb. 17, 1999, 11 a.m. at the McSpadden Funeral Home Chapel in Ellsinore, Mo. Rev. Willie Joe Price officiated, with burial in Whites Mill Cemetery near Ellsinore.

James Pickering
James Carol "Cajun" Pickering, 66, of Shook, Mo., died Feb. 10, 1999 at Cape Girardeau, Mo. He was a construction worker. He was born Aug. 16, 1932 at Hutchison County, Texas, son of William Alfred Pickering and Elsie Huffman Pickering. He married Marilyn Mosbaugh at Fordland, Mo. Oct. 18, 1992, and she survives. Other survivors are his mother, Elsie Pickering, Ellsinore; four children, Therresa, Joseph, James Jr., and Carolyn Hildrich, Poplar Bluff; one brother, Larry Pickering, California; three sisters, Mary Yvonne Anderson, Shook, Marion Chapman, Poplar Bluff, Jean Barrett, Oxnard, Calif; three grandchildren, Brandonn, Dylan and Kaelee. He is preceded in death by his father and two sisters, Billie Ann and Shirley. He was a 10-year U.S. Army veteran, serving three years in Germany. He was discharged in 1964 as a sargeant. He lived in the Greenville and Shook area for many years. He was member of the Eagles Aerie #3730, Poplar Bluff, and a member of V.F.W. Post #3416, Wappapello. He was of the Baptist faith. The funeral was at 2 p.m. Feb. 13, 1999 at the Morrison-Worley Greenville Chapel, with Rev. Calvin Buhler officiating. Recorded music was played. Military honors were provided by the VFW Post #6477, Poplar Bluff. A private burial will be held at a later time. Services were under the direction of Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Greenville.

Billy Joe Lutes
Billy Joe Lutes, 52, died Feb.12, 1999 at his home in Fredericktown, Mo. He was a diesel mechanic and operated his own shop in St. Louis for many years. He had been a resident of Fredericktown for four years. He was born Aug. 16, 1946 at Silva, Mo., son of the late Arlie and Audrey (Rainwater) Lutes. Survivors are five children, Billy Joe McCoy Lutes, Sikeston, Billy Joe Lutes, Jr., Poplar Bluff, Jacqueline Marie Chiarelli, Fredericktown, Katinia Ann Lutes, Fredericktown, Karen Mae Lutes, Farmington; four brothers, Bob Lutes, St. Peters, Stanley Lutes, South St. Louis, Junior Lutes, St. Louis, Mike Lutes, Hiram; five sisters, Judy Sullivan, Arnold, Margie Lutes, Cedar Hill, Fonda Johnson, Fredericktown, Patricia Cobb, Greenville, Kathy Middleton, Piedmont; four grandchildren, Kenny Chiarelli, Jr., Steven Chiarelli, Montana Lutes, DeLaney Lutes; and special friend, Lea Wood, Fredericktown. He is preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Lee Lutes, and two sisters, Wilma Massey and Betty Casey. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Viet Nam. Lola M. Randall
Lola Marie Randall, age 86, of Piedmont, died Nov. 3, 1999 in Callaway, Neb. She was born on August 26, 1914 in Patterson, Mo. She united in marriage to Fred Randall on October 30, 1931, and he preceded her in death on March 30, 1998. Also preceding in death are her parents, John William Haggett and Mary Jane (Allen) Haggett, five brothers, Clyde, Harvey, William, Raymond and Clecy Haggett, and one grandson, Michael Schuster. She is survived by one son, Jim Randall of St. Louis; one daughter Betty Schuster of Eddyville, Neb; two sisters Lela King of Fenton, and Dola Shearrer of Poplar Bluff; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Lola had worked as a lab clerk at Lambert-Warner Pharmaceutical Company and was a member of Piedmont United Baptist Church. Anna Twidwell
Anna Twidwell, 91, died Nov. 1, 1999 at Greenville Health Care in Greenville, Mo. She was born July 16, 1908 in Chicago, Ill. Anna was married to Truman Twidwell on January 13, 1926 and he preceded her in death on August 31, 1984. She is also preceded by her parents, John Schmidt and Mary Bicking Schmidt, one son, Truman Twidwell Jr., and one daughter Mary Sue Sargent. She is survived by one daughter, Betty Van Hise of Silver Springs, Md; two brothers, Andrew Schmidt of Michigan and Linnie Schmidt of Chicago, Ill; two sisters, Helen and Katie Koepake of Chicago, Ill; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Anna was a homemaker and a member of Hickory Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Clubb. Services were at Ruegg Funeral Home in Greenville, Nov. 5, 1999 at 11 a.m. Rev. Richard Green officiated. Ethel G. Hughey
Ethel Grace Hughey, 98 years, died on Oct. 30, 1999 in Fredericktown, Mo. She was married to Buford Burton Hughey on December 1, 1945, he preceded her in death on September 10, 1995. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Noah Sitzes and Sophonia Burk Sitzes. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Rosetta Sitzes, numerous nieces and nephews, and a very close friend, Sue Shoffner. Ethel was a school teacher for 38 years and of the Methodist faith. The funeral was at Ruegg Funeral Home in Greenville, Nov. 3, 1999 at 1 p.m Rev. Carl Cureton officiated. Rev. Roger L. Connelly
Rev. Roger L. (Josh) Connelly, 86, died on November 5, 1999 at his home in Williamsville, Mo. He was born Jan. 1, 1913 in East St. Louis, Ill. On May 19, 1934 he was united in marriage to Mildred Nadine Duckett and she preceded in death on January 5, 1995. Also preceding in death is his parents, Charles Connelly and Nettie Alice (Swalley) Connelly, three brothers, James Robert Connelly, Ray Connelly and Robert Connelly, and two sisters, Lucille Connelly and Ella Mayes. He is survived by two sons, Roger E. Connelly of Williamsville, Mo. and C. Richard Connelly of Birmingham, Ala., one daughter, Marilyn Slover of Williamsville, Mo., six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Rev. Connelly was a member of the Missouri East Conference of the United Methodist Church. The service was at the United Methodist Church in Williamsville, Nov. 8, 1999, at 10 a.m. The Reverends Phil Coats, Kent Wilfond, and Glen Lashley officiated. Pallbearers were Roger E. Holly A. Whited
Holly Anne White, age 27, of Annapolis, died November 5, 1999 in St. Louis, Mo. She was born February 11, 1972 in Ironton Mo. Holly is survived by her parents, Fred Whited and Sharon Henson Whited; one brother, Greg Whited and wife, Stephanie; and one sister, Leslee Randazzo, and husband, Rick, all of Annapolis. Clifford M. Montgomery
Clifford M. Montgomery, 73, died November 6, 1999 at his home in Piedmont. He was born March 22, 1926 in Silva. He is survived by one son, Bobby D. Montgomery of Piedmont; one daughter, Jennifer Lynn Montgomery of Piedmont; and five grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Montgomery and Nora Clark Montgomery, and one sister, Goldie Marie DeShaney. Clifford had worked in a sawmill and was of the Baptist faith. Rev. Eddie Martin
Rev. Eddie D. Martin, age 78, of Piedmont, died Nov. 8, 1999 at Poplar Bluff, Mo. He pastored churches in Missouri and Arkansas for 25 years. He was the pastor at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Piedmont for a total of nine years, and was active in the Clearwater Ministerial Alliance for many years. Born June 14, 1921 near Glen, Mo., he was the son of the late Teamous and Helen (Hess) Martin. He was married to Mildred Foster in 1942, and she preceded him in death Dec. 1, 1972. He married Eunice Hale Feb. 15, 1974 at DeSoto, and she survives. Other survivors are his children, Terry and Sherry Martin, Springfield; stepchildren, Darrel and Helen Hale, Festus; grandchildren, Terry and Ginger Martin, Jr., Springfield, Diana Martin, St. Louis; great granchildren, Hannah and Jeffery Martin. Two brothers, Pepper and Stanley Martin, and one sister, Jean Brown, preceded him in death. Rev. Martin was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1945. He and his wife Eunice had made their home in Piedmont for the past several years. The funeral was at 11 a.m. Nov. 10, 1999 at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Piedmont. The Reverends Charlie Gillenwater and Gary Aubuchon officiated. Music was by Glendell Twidwell, Oresta Atnip, Cinda Wood, Ron Wood and Jeanette Turnbough. Casketbearers were church deacons, Melvin Moore, John Griffin, Eddy Hughes, Bob Sanders, Stan Garrison and Jim McFadden. Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery at Naylor, directed by Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Piedmont.

Bobbie Bazzell
Bobbie Gale Bazzell, 58, died Feb. 14, 2000 in Piedmont. He was born March 7, 1941 in St. Louis and was raised by his grandparents, the late Joseph Elijah and Ella Mae Bazzell. Bobbie was a welder by trade and had worked at the American Car and Foundry. He is survived by his mother, Georgia Simpson, Kennett, Mo; a son, Erman Kincaid, Jr., Hillsboro, Mo.; four daughters, Margaret Crocker, Cape Girardeau, Mo., Barbara Bazzell, Carrie Kincaid and Tara Kincaid, all of Park Hills, Mo.; three brothers, Darrell Bazzell, Windsor, Calif., Donnie and Jerry Bazzell, both of Creston, Calif.; four sisters, Carolyn Crawford, Kennett, Mo., Barbara Francis, Poplar Bluff, Cheryl Hunter, Goodlettsville, Tenn., Jocelyn Bazzell Hill, Montclair, Calif.; two grandchildren, Ashley Crocker, Alexandra Fitzpatrick; four aunts, Helen Hovely, Hazel Atnip, Nina Handy, Joann Gayle and Jean Husketh. In addition to his grandparents, he was preceded in death by his father, William (Bill) Bazzell. The funeral was Feb. 17, 2 p.m. at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont, officiated by Elder Bob Webb with recorded music. Pallbearers were Daniel Crocker, Robert Gayle, Darrell Bazzell, Roger Meador, Richard Allen, Jason Myers. Burial was at Center Ridge Cemetery in Greenville.

Lola Yount
Lola Imogene Yount, 84, died Jan. 10, 2000 at Clark's Mountain Nursing Center in Piedmont. She was born March 17, 1915 in Harviell, Mo., daughter of the late James Burton and Ethel (Ryan) Gowen. Mrs. Yount had worked at a saw factory in St. Louis before her retirement. Survivors include one daughter, Norma Louis, Piedmont; five brothers, Tom Gowen, Poplar Bluff, Ken Gowen, Tuscon, Ariz., Wilbur Gowen, Fredericktown, Darwin Gowen, Dean Gowen, both of St. Louis County; one sister, Aileen Holmes, St. Louis County; five grandchildren, Joseph and Carmen Louis, Piedmont, Jeana and Joe Boarman, St. Louis, James and Nikki Louis, Bonne Terre, Jerry and Cathy Louis, St. Louis, Jeff and Rhonda Louis, Ellsinore; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Preceding her in death were three brothers, Leonard, James and Ole Gowen and one sister, Fern Roberts. The funeral was Jan. 13 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont with Rev. Allen Calkins officiating. Pallbearers were Joseph Louis, Jason Louis, Jeremy Louis, Jeffrey Louis, Jerry Louis, Jerrid Ross and James Louis. Honorary pallbearers were Jamie Louis and Damian Smith.

Missouri (Jane) Cravens
Missouri Jane Cravens, 82, died Feb. 15, 2000 at Lucy Lee Hospital in Poplar Bluff. She was born Oct. 28, 1917 in Knoxall, Mo. On Nov. 2, 1940 she was united in marriage to Merlin Cravens, who preceded her in death in 1967. Mrs. Cravens was a homemaker. Surviving are one son, Roger Cravens, Williamsville; two daughters, Fonda J. Durrow, Greenville, Tonia D. Cornett, Arlington, Texas; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Feb. 18 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Williamsville, officiated by Rev. Gary Wulverton with music provided by Jeanette Cox. Pallbearers were Roger Cravens, Andy Durrow, Roger Cravens Jr., Jeff Lee, Gary Gramlich and Alex Ruegg. Burial was at Rucker Cemetery in Greenville.

Beulah I. Fair
Beulah I. (Morse) Fair, 79, died Feb. 17, 2000 in St. Charles, Mo. She was born Oct. 30, 1920 in Chaonia, Mo., daughter of the late Charles and Nina (Birdnow) Morse. On Nov. 26, 1938 she married John L. Fair, who preceded her in death Nov. 14, 1970. They spent much of their life in Winona, Mo., where Beulah was a charter member of the Baptist Church in Winona. She was employed by Paramount Cap Factory until she moved to St. Louis in 1977. She then worked for the National Park Service until her retirement. Others preceding her in death were two brothers, Edgar and Joe Morse; one sister, Irene Page and her husband John. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Ellen Towner, St. Charles, Mo.; one son, Richard Fair, DeSoto; one sister, Betty Piper, Metropolis, Ill.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Duncan Funeral Chapel in Winona on Saturday, Feb. 26, 1 p.m.

Nancy Campbell
Nancy Ann Campbell, 73, died Feb. 19, 2000 at Greenville Health Care. She was born June 10, 1926 in Rector, Ark., daughter of the late John Albert and Lenora (Davidson) Carter. She is survived by four daughters, Annie Walenda, Poplar Bluff, Ella Wells, Grand Blanc, Mich., Karen Wirtz and Georgia Daniels, both of St. Louis; one sister, Geri Liberatore, Fla.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Preceding her in death were one son, Randy Ledbetter; one brother, Bert Carter; three sisters, Geneva Szabo, Lena Murphy and Linnie Harper. The funeral was Feb. 22 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont with Pastor Steve Proctor officiating and music provided by Nancy Proctor. Burial was at Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector, Ark.

Clyde Guess
Clyde Guess, 79, died Feb. 19, 2000 at his home in Piedmont. He was born July 30, 1920 in Greenville. Aug. 2, 1941 he married Bernice Tierney and she survives. He worked as an equipment operator and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by three daughters, Marjorie Hite, Maryland Heights, Mo., Beverly Baudendistel and Sharon Thompson, both of St. Charles, Mo.; one sister, Alice Fray, Memphis, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Lisa Owen, Brian Hite, April and Michael Baudendistel, Connie Lyons and Christopher Thielmann; six great-grandchildren, Devin and Jessica Owen, Austin and Alexandrea Hite and Austin and Clayton Lyons. The funeral was Feb. 21 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, with Rev. Henry Pasquet officiating. Music was provided by Glendell Twidwell, soloist, and Jeanette Turnbough, pianist. Pallbearers were Ed Lunyou, Carl Lunyou, Ivan Hixson, Lindell Skaggs, Gordon Sanders, Kenny Morris and Enoch Thompson. Honorary pallbearer was Lovis Fears. Burial was at Masonic Cemetery in Piedmont. 


Pat Tilk
Pat Tilk, 63, died Oct. 5, 2000 at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center in Farmington, Mo. He was born Sept. 3, 1937 in Jewett, Mo., son of the late Frank and Helen (Plake) Tilk. He was united in marriage to Clara Long on Sept. 16, 1958 in Ironton, Mo. and she survives. Prior to retiring in 1999 he worked in the maintenance department of ISP Mineral company and farmed for many years. He was a member of the Maple View Baptist Church in Jewett and served on the board of the Jewett Community Center. Those surviving are: two sons, Patrick Daniel Tilk, Jewett, Dwayne Edward Tilk, Fredericktown, Mo.; daughter, Dolores Charlene Tanner, Fredericktown; brother, Frankie Tilk, Piedmont; sister, Kathryn Brewer, Jewett; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Oct. 8 at Wilson Funeral Home in Fredericktown with Elder Charles Sutton officiating. Burial was in the Tilk family cemetery in Madison County.

Margaret Woods
Margaret Woods, 93, formerly of Patterson, died Oct. 6, 2000 in Grandview Health Care Center, Washington, Mo. She was born Aug. 28, 1907 in Patterson, daughter of the late James and Mary (Twidwell) Shearrer. She married James Monroe Woods Jan. 1, 1924 and he preceded her in death Oct. 28, 1986. Margaret was a homemaker, a member of the Wayne County Historical Society and the United Methodist Church of Patterson. Survivors include: two sons, William Woods, Jacksonville, Fla., Robert Woods, Caledonia, Mo.; five daughters, Mary Lois Scherr, St. Louis; Virginia Mueller, Waterloo, Ill., Peggy Green, Versailles, Mo., Dixie Stone, Washington, Mo., Janice Mullins, Patterson, Mo.; one sister, Blanche Evans, Greenville, Mo.; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, James Woods, Jr.; one brother, Lyman Shearrer; one sister, Grace Fulton; two grandchildren. The funeral was held Oct. 8 at United Methodist Church in Patterson with Rev. John Adams officiating and music provided by Richard and Roger McAllister, Janice Middleton and Linda McAllister, pianist. Pallbearers were Ronnie Mueller, Kenneth Green, Dean Mullins, Terry Stone, Tony Stone and Chris Woods. Burial was in Rowland Cemetery in Patterson.

Nellie Huddleston
Nellie (Nell) Huddleston, 87, died Oct. 1, 2000 in South Brook Nursing Home in Farmington, where she resided. She was born March 17, 1913 in Vulcan, Mo., daughter of the late Edward and Alice (Stevenson) Talley. She was united in marriage to Clifton Huddleston, who preceded her in death on April 10, 1979. Nell was a homemaker and attended Harvest Full Gospel Church in Des Arc. Survivors include: two sons, Dr. Thomas J. Huddleston, Farmington, Donald L. Huddleston, Hartsville, S.C.; two brothers, Olin Talley, Defuniak Springs, Fla., Omer Talley, Wappapello, Mo.; one sister, Edith Purtle, LeRoy, Ill.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, David E. Huddleston; two brothers, Guy and Jake Talley; four sisters, Stella Sutton, Rella Smith, Virgie Williams, Edna Middleton. James N. Street
James N. Street, 88, died Sept. 28, 2000 in Three Rivers Healthcare North, Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was born Jan. 22, 1912 in Des Arc , son of the late Gertrude (Poston) Street. He was united in marriage to Verma Lewis, who preceded him in death. He married Vema Lee in September of 1993 and she survives, residing in Piedmont. James was of the Nazarene belief. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #1197 A.F.&A.F.;, LaFeria, Texas. He served his country during World War II and was awarded five bronze stars. He had owned and operated a restaurant in Texas. He is survived by: two stepsons, Stan Lee, St. Louis, James O. Lee, Nashville, Tenn.; one stepdaughter, Shirley Middleton, St. Louis; a nephew, Kelly Street and niece, Lori Birdsong, both of Texas; a special cousin, Clotine Harris and family, who cared for him during his illness. The funeral was held Sept. 30 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont with Rev. Charlie Gillenwater presiding. Pallbearers were Wayne Harris, Bill Barker, Elmer Sharp, Kelly Street, Byron Tucker and Gary Gramlich. Burial was in Mt. View Cemetery in Des Arc.

Pattie Joe Laxton
Pattie Jo Laxton, 11, of Norman, Okla., died Oct. 9, 2000 at Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City from burns and smoke inhalation suffered in a fire at a friend's home. She was born Nov. 4, 1988 in Oklahoma City, daughter of Charles and Sarah Laxton of Anadarko, Okla. and Lisa and David Brown of Norman, Okla. Pattie was a bubbly little girl, full of hugs and giggles. She liked to play with makeup, jewelry and Barbie dolls. She was a student at Kennedy Elementary School and an active member of the First Baptist Church in Norman. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandmother, Evelyn Laxton, Piedmont; brothers, Dustin Laxton, Norman, Eric Laxton, Anadarko; stepsister, Jackilyn Ozio, Anadarko; aunts, Wanda Laxton, Georgia Smith, both of Cutler, Ill.; step-grandmother, Lynette Steverson, Anadarko; uncles, Willard, Robert and John Laxton, all of Piedmont. The funeral was held Oct. 12 at the First Baptist Church in Norman. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery at Norman.

Fredia L. Croney
Fredia L. Croney, 71, died Feb. 2, 2001 in Greenville, Mo. She was born May 3, 1929 in Marquand, Mo., daughter of the late Daniel and Rosie Hale. She married Elbert Croney and he preceded her in death. Fredia was a homemaker and had lived in Silva for many years. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Jim, Bill and Albert, three sisters, Sadie, Vida and Lillie and one great grandchild, Josh Beyers. Survivors include three sons, Douglas Croney, Manitiwoc, Wisc., Willias Croney, St. Ann, Mo., Timothy Croney, St. Ann, Mo., three brothers, Truman Hale, Piedmont, Troy Hale, Silva and Eugene Hale, Greenville, two sisters, Tiney Jennerjohn, Piedmont, Virgie Holmes Weston, Greenville, fifteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and her dear frind Earl Weston. The funeral was held Feb. 6 at the Morrison-Worley Chapel in Greenville with Rev. Daniel Hale officiating. Special music was provided by Bonnie Funston. Rubye P. Blackwell
Rubye P. Blackwell, 84, died Feb. 2, 2001 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She was born Aug. 6, 1916 in Braggadocio, Mo., daughter of the late William Lewis Gallaher and Lillie Gertrude (Bray) Gallaher. She was united in marriage to Carl Blackwell on Nov. 2, 1947 and he preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1977. Also preceding her in death was one brother Milburn Gallaher. Survivors include one son Carl Michael (Mike) Blackwell and wife Jackie, grandson Westley Pike Blackwell and wife, Jodie, great grandson Austin, all of Piedmont, one brother Buford Gallaher, Huntsville Al, two sisters Viola Dawson, Hayti, Mo., Louis Ottinger, Caruthersville, Mo. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Piedmont. Funeral services were Feb. 4 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont with the Rev. James Stewart officiating. Music was provided by the First Baptist Church choir, pianist Linda Niswonger. Serving as pallbearers were David Johnston, Frank McAllister, Mark Keister, Larry Crosley, Jerry Spinks, Dennis Johnson, honorary pallbearer Dusty Burton. Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery in Piedmont, Mo. under the direction of Ruegg Funeral Homes of Piedmont.

Emil R. Carlson
Emil R. Carlson, 98, died Jan. 31, 2001 in Piedmont, Mo. He was born March 16, 1902 in Chicago, Ill., son of the late Ivan and Nellie Carlson. He married Mabel Roberts May 1, 1954 in Chicago and she survives. He worked as a cost accountant in Chicago before his retirement in 1971. He had lived at Missionary Acres in Clubb. He was the oldest living member of the local AARP Chapter and was a member of the Evangel Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence and his twin, Roy. The funeral was held Feb. 3 at the Evangel Baptist Church in Clubb with Rev. Virgil Freyermuth officiating, assisted by Rev. Howard Street and music provided by Ken Moon and Marilee Ostrander. Pallbearers were Ken Moon, Bill Hayes, Dr. Gene Burris, Chuck Nichols, Paul Gauwitz and Dave Kintner. Burial was in Greenville Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Greenville.

Alice B. Borders
Alice B. Borders, 78, died Jan. 28, 2001 at Three Rivers Healthcare South in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She was born March 9, 1922 in Des Arc, daughter of the late Roy and Bertha (Wheatley) Bess. She married Jasper Kelley and to this union three children were born, Kelly, Gertie and Butch. Mr. Kelly preceded her in death. She later married John Ellis Borders and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of the Patterson Baptist Church, baptized Dec. 12, 1993. Those surviving are a daughter, Alice Bowman, Peveley; stepson, James Borders, Des Arc; stepdaughter, Ruby Borders, Piedmont; brother, Johnny Bess, Tunica, Miss. The funeral was held Jan. 31 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont with Bro. Dewel Smith officiating. Pallbearers were Roy Stout, Sr., Dwight DeBoard, Melvin Moore and Gary Gramlich. Burial was in Collins Cemetery, Annapolis.

Glenzil R. Nelson
Glenzil Ray Nelson, Dr., 57, died Feb. 1, 2001 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was born June 29, 1943 in Torch, Mo., son of Iowa Nelson Pruyn of Farmington and the late Hiram Nelson. He was united in marriage to Betty Pruyn March 7, 1963 in St. Louis and she survives, residing in Silva. Glenzil was a die caster for Bauman Engineering in Washington, Mo. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, Glen (Sheila) Nelson, Jr., Silva, Kevin Nelson, Jackson, Minn.; three sisters, Melva Gazaway, Farmington, Bonnie Ladato, Ladue, Kathy Stewart, St. Louis; three grandchildren. The funeral was held Feb. 4 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel in Greenville with Rev. Kenneth Moon officiating. Pallbearers were Harry Prouty, Gene Pogue, Dan Pogue, Dave Gazaway, Mike Mobley and T. Freida V. Miller
Freida Virginia Miller, 68, died Jan. 30, 2001 in Missouri Baptist Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. She was born Jan. 9, 1933 in Piedmont, daughter of the late Donald and Doreatha (Grigery) Dean. She was united in marriage to James T. Miller Sept. 2, 1955 and he survives. Freida was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Des Arc, serving as financial secretary. She worked as a secretary for ASARCO in Glover for many years. She is survived by two sisters, Lola Luten, Delores Wright; two brothers, Carl and Donald Dean, all of Des Arc. The funeral was held Feb. 3 at Bryson Funeral Home, Pilot Knob, with Rev. Donald Dement officiating. Pallbearers were Don Wright, Doug Bond, Leonard Dean, Shane Tarkington, Gerald Miller and Mark Hester. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery, Des Arc.

Alva E. Collins
Alva Eugene Collins, 37, of Piedmont, died Jan. 12, 2001 in Clarksville, Tenn. He was born May 3, 1963 in St. Louis, Mo., son of the late Alva and Inez (Mansfield) Collins. He was a construction worker by trade. Mary L. Mabrey
Mary Leach Mabrey, 77, of Bonne Terre, died June 9, 2001 at St. Joe Manor in Bonne Terre. She was born May 1, 1924 at Kime. Mrs. Mabrey was a homemaker and longtime resident of Butler County. She also lived near Patterson in Wayne County for several years. She was united in marriage to Carl Mabrey Sept. 9, 1944 and he preceded her in death March 2, 1993. She was a member of the South Poplar Bluff General Baptist Church. She is survived by three sons, Bill Mabrey, St. Louis, Terry Mabrey, Pueblo West, Colo., Tim Mabrey, Colorado Springs, Colo.; three daughters, Doris Smither, Bonne Terre, Deborah Drake, Paragould, Ark., Dolores Gentry, Rockford, Ill.; six sisters, Doris Radesky, Waterviliet, Mich., Loraine Cotton, Las Cruses, N.M., Betty Stelter, South Bend, Ind., Essie Branch, Waterford, Mich., Verlene Hill, Wolcotoitte, Ind., Elaine Butler, Swansea, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. The funeral was held June 12 at Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff with Rev. Jeff Brawley officiating. Burial was in the city cemetery in Poplar Bluff.

Anna V. Fuytinck
Anna V. Fuytinck, 90, died May 24, 2001 at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She was born March 25, 1911 at Rossville, Kan., daughter of the late Adam and Minnie (Ropp) Haywood. She was united in marriage to Aloysious Frances Fuytinck June 6, 1929 and he preceded her in death Nov. 26, 1974. Anna was a homemaker and a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Piedmont. She is survived by her children, Marie (Joe) Fleschute, Theresa Ann Fuytinck, all of Piedmont, Jeanette (Vic) Stephens, Coldwater; grandchildren, Thomas (Nancy) Reich, Lorraine (Nicky) Jones, Robert (Becky) Reich; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ernest Haywood and her sister, Ella Mae Gilmore. The funeral was held May 29 at Hoffmeister Mortuary in Lemay. Burial was in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Lemay. Arrangements were under the direction of Hoffmeister Mortuary and Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont.

Everett W. Crockett
Everett Warren Crockett, 87, died June 9, 2001 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. He was born Aug. 22, 1913, son of the late William and Liza (Rideout) Crockett. He was united in marriage to Virginia Van Sickle June 9, 1947 and she preceded him in death Oct. 15, 1987. He married Belle Hicks Nov. 17, 1988 and she survives, residing in Piedmont. Mr. Crockett worked for McKesson and Robbins as a maintenance man and was a member of the Faith Family Worship Center in Piedmont. Mr. Crockett is survived by two sons, Chester Crockett, Piedmont, Cecil Crockett, Chelsea, Maine; one daughter, Carol Lewis, DeSoto; one sister, Dorothy Hall, Doniphan; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Susan Crockett; one sister, Esther Frederick; one brother, Leonard Crockett; one grandson, Sam Crockett. The funeral was held June 12 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont with Rev. Wayne Street officiating and Lynn Street providing the music. Pallbearers were Jeremy Lewis, Davey Lewis, Cecil Crockett and Dave Lewis. Burial was in St. Matthews Cemetery, St. Louis.

Warren A. Johnson
Warren Andrew Johnson, 79, died June 7, 2001 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo. He was born Feb. 13, 1922 at Waynesville, son of the late James and Prudence (Shockley) Johnson. He was united in marriage to Ella Melissa Malone April 18, 1942 and she survives, residing in Patterson. Warren was a World War II veteran and a manager at Clearwater Manufacturing Company. After his retirement, he was a cattle farmer. He was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by a daughter, Dena Tooke, Piedmont; two grandsons, Ryan and Aaron Tooke. The graveside service was held June 9 at Masonic Cemetery with Bro. Dan Ross presiding. Pallbearers were Ryan Tooke, Aaron Tooke, Glen Tooke, David Rose, Scott Rayfield and J. J. Miller. Arrangements were under the direction of Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont.

Lisa M. Wren
Lisa Marie Wren, 29, died June 6, 2001 at Greenville Healthcare in Greenville, Mo. She was born Aug. 7, 1971 in St. Louis, Mo., daughter of Linda Schumer of Perryville and Richard Stafford of Wichita, Kan. and they survive. She married Howard Wren, Jr. July 15, 1988 and he survives, residing in Hiram. Lisa worked as a CNA for Greenville Nursing Center and attended the New Hope General Baptist Church in Silva. In addition to her husband and parents, Lisa is survived by two children, Nicholas and Amber Wren, both of the home; two brothers, Richard Stafford, Wichita, Kan., Duke Stafford, St. Louis; three sisters, Teresa Helberg, Medford, Wisc., Tonya Bruce, Billie Jo Bruce, both of Perryville; her grandmother, Lillie Miller, Pocahontas, Ill The funeral was held June 9 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Greenville, with Bro. Elma N. Gottstein
Elma Norine Gottstein, 75, formerly of Poplar Bluff, died July 15, 2001 at the Trinidad State Nursing Home in Trinidad, Colo. She was born June 6, 1926 in Model, Colo. She loved children, enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting and cooking. She was a member of the Westwood Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. She is survived by one son, Boyd Gottstein; one sister, Sylvia Montoya; two grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild, all of Trinidad. The funeral was held July 20 at Westwood Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Proctor officiating. Burial was in Crossroads Cemetery in Wayne County. Hollis R. 'Jake' Wallace
Hollis Richard "Jake" Wallace, 93, died July 22, 2001 at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was born Sept. 12, 1907 in Mill Spring, Mo., son of the late Robert Edwin and Gertrude (Roark) Abbot Wallace. He was united in marriage to Carrie Ruby Smith Feb. 20, 1927 and she survives, residing in Piedmont. Mr. Wallace was a retired carpenter from the St. Louis area. He was a charter member of the Ijames Hill General Baptist Church, where he served as deacon for over 60 years. He is survived by three sons, Eddie Lee Wallace, Lemay, Wilburn Eugene Wallace, Paul Darrel Wallace, both of Piedmont; two sisters, Pauline Hillis, Piedmont, Mazie Kundert, Arnold; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were one son, Hollis Winfred Wallace; two daughters-in-law, Virginia "Jenny" and Charlotte Wallace; two brothers, Charles "Bus" Wallace, Woodrow Wallace; three half-brothers, Perry and James Wallace, Roy Abbot; two sisters, Valda Hooper, Ruby Risinger; eight half-sisters, Hattie, Artie, Mattie, Ollie, Ora, Florence, Bertha and Lovie. Darwin D. Ford
Darwin Dale Ford, 62, died July 22, 2001 at his residence in Annapolis. He was born June 29, 1939 in Annapolis, son of the late John L. and Mamie (Mann) Ford Sr. He served in the United States Army during the Berlin crisis. Mr. Ford is survived by five sisters, Carmen Rudanovich, Arnold, Eunisa E. Bond, Centralia, Ill., Carnelia Lueddecke, Piedmont, Judy Ford, Lana Gaston, both of Connecticut; two brothers, John Ford Jr., Annapolis, Wayne Ford, Weldon Springs. Blanche 'Bee' Olivia
Blanche, "Bee" Olivia Allen, 85, died July 13, 2001 in Long Beach, Calif. She was born Jan. 2, 1916 in Taskee Station, Mo., daughter of the late Robert and Ora (Whitt) Shipton. She married Floyd Allen and he preceded her in death. She is survived by one son, Floyd (Maureen) Allen, Norwalk, Calif.; sister, Berniece Faries, Alton, Ill.; grandson, F. Ray Allen; special friend, Al Kirby. Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Cypress, Calif.

Myrtle M. Eads
Myrtle Marie Eads. 79, died July 20, 2001 in Cape Girardeau, Mo. She was born July 18, 1922 in Patterson, Mo., daughter of the late William and Dillie (Allen) Payton. She was united in marriage to Billie Eads July 19, 1939 in Piedmont and he survives, residing in Piedmont. She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church. Those surviving are four children, Ronald Eads, Piedmont, Betty Schrader, Imperial, Steven Eads, Piedmont, Janice Hanson, Pine River, Minn.; six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one young son; four brothers, Roy, Carroll, Vernon and Bill Payton; one sister, Virgie Henderson. Roberta Lynn Mell King
Roberta Lynn Mell King, 48, died July 18, 2001 at her home in Maplewood, Mo. She was born Nov. 27, 1952 in Poplar Bluff, Mo., daughter of Marie Mell Hinkle of Piedmont and the late Norman Mell. She married John King April 24, 1982 and he survives, residing in St. Louis. Roberta was a 1970 graduate of Clearwater High School. In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by three children, Angela King, Columbia, Amanda King, Fenton, Kevin King, Crestwood; stepfather, Dale Hinkle, Piedmont; one sister, Melba Kinnamore, Piedmont; five grandchildren, Andrea Boykin, Aireonna and Sierra Key, Daniel and Destiny King. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman and Howard Mell. The funeral was held July 21 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Piedmont, with Rev. Clarence J. Casteel and Rev. Retha Rene Callahan
Retha Rene Callahan, 45, died July 20, 2001 in Piedmont, Mo. as a result of an automobile accident. She was born July 29, 1955 in Campbell, Mo., daughter of Fred and Melba (Green) Boeckman, who survive, residing in Campbell. In addition to her parents, she is survived by four daughters, Rainna (Brad) Barnett, Bernie, Vhonda Lee (Mitchell) Mann, Ellington, Crystal Lewis, Ellington, Andrea (Scot) Massie, Okinawa, Japan; one son, Donald J. Callahan, Ellington; two sisters, Jean Bawmer, St. Charles, Kay Kerperien, St. Louis; one brother, Fred Boeckman, Arnold; 13 grandchildren. Elmer L. Brown
Elmer L. Brown, 70, died July 18, 2001. He was born Sept. 28, 1930 in St. Louis, Mo., son of the late Edna Anna and Grover Cleveland Brown. He married Dorthy Jarrett of Mill Spring Feb. 14, 1952 and she survives, residing in St. Ann, Mo. Mr. Brown worked for Ozark Airlines and TWA for 40 years. He is survived by one son, Elmer Eugene Brown; one daughter, Deborah Sue (Steven) Steward; four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Lee Brown. Helen B. Barnhart
Helen Bernice Barnhart. 84, died Oct. 2, 2001 in St. Louis, Mo. She was born Aug. 22, 1917 in Hiram, Mo., daughter of the late Richard and Mary (Barrett) Barnhart. Helen made her living as a beautician for many years. She attended the Greenville Methodist Church. Those surviving include one brother, Otto Barnhart, Hiram; one sister, Betty Burton, Poplar Bluff; two nephews, Carl Barnhart, Michael Burton. The funeral was held Oct. 4 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Kent Wilfong officiating. Homer Wilson
Homer Wilson, 76, died Oct. 2, 2001 in Farmington, Mo. He was born May 27, 1925 in Burkburnett, Texas, son of the late Luther and Vera (Fletcher) Wilson. He married Helen Turpin Jan. 25, 1950 in Senath, Mo. and she survives, residing in Piedmont. Homer was a retired auto mechanic. He served in the army in Korea from 1950 to 1951. He is survived by one son, Rickie (Nancy) Wilson, Farmington; two daughters, Rachel Wilson, Desloge, Dianne (Larry) Nash, Bonne Terre; one brother, John Wilson, East Tawas, Mich.; three sisters, Robbie Walls, Clubb, Aline Blackburn, St. Louis, Nora Mae Tullock, St. Louis; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ocie Millholland; two brothers, George and Oscar Wilson. The funeral was held Oct. 4 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel in Piedmont with Rev. Myrtle May Hopkins
Myrtle May Hopkins, 94, died Oct. 1, 2001 at Three Rivers Healthcare South, Poplar Bluff, Mo. She was born May 17, 1907 in Chaonia, Mo., daughter of the late Samuel and Martha (Lovins) Critchfield. She was united in marriage to William Henry Hopkins in July of 1932 and he preceded her in death March 11, 1964. Mrs. Hopkins was a homemaker and a member of the Cross Roads General Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Wanda May Bennett, Lowndes, Uvonne Elizabeth Bollinger, Greenville; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were four sons, Otis, William, J.L. and Samuel Hopkins; one daughter, Yvonne Rohan; one grandson, Windell Rohan; one great-granddaughter, Serena Rohan. Minerva 'Mae' Gooch
Minerva "Mae" Gooch, 100, died Oct. 3, 2001 at Clark's Mountain Nursing Center in Piedmont, Mo. She was born Oct. 13, 1900 in Ellsinore, Mo., daughter of the late John and Cora Belle (Sechreast) Boyer. She was united in marriage to Walter H. Gooch April 8, 1917 in Ellsinore and he preceded her in death Jan. 26, 1957. Mrs. Gooch had made Mill Spring her home since moving from St. Louis in 1956. She was a homemaker, who enjoyed gardening, sewing and reading. She was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are two sons, William (JoAnn) Gooch, Robert (Barbara) Gooch, all of Mill Spring; one daughter, Evalyn (Homer) Robertson, Ozark, Ala.; one brother, Ivory Boyer, Ellsinore; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, John Gooch, Willis Gooch; one daughter, Hellen Gooch. The funeral was held Oct. 7 at McSpadden Funeral Home in Ellsinore officiated by Rev. Howard 'Larry' Kelly
Howard Lawrence "Larry" Kelley, 38, died Oct. 5, 2001 near Des Arc, Mo. He was born July 6, 1963 in St. Louis, Mo., son of James L. Kelley of Ironton and the late Linda Ruth (Lee) Kelley. Larry attended the Annapolis Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of the Arcadia Valley Elks Lodge. He served in the United States Army. In addition to his father, he is survived by one daughter, Linda Ruth Kelley, Des Arc; stepmother, Joyce Kelley, Ironton, one sister, Patty Campbell, Grand Rapids, Mich.; one brother, Stacy Kelley, Cape Girardeau. Willis H. Nash
Willis Harvey Nash, 57, died Oct. 6, 2001 at Greenville Health Care in Greenville, Mo. He was born Feb. 13, 1944 in Graniteville, Mo., son of the late Kelly Lee and Francis (Ford) Nash. He married Dessie Marie Brooks June 7, 1975 and she survives, residing in Piedmont. He worked at the Sheltered Workshop in Piedmont. He is survived by three brothers, William and Clarence Nash, both of Ironton, Charles Nash, Festus; three sisters, Melba Bone, Etta Boyer, Ellen Green, all of Ironton; four half-sisters, Ovalee Bone, Graniteville, Mary Sumpter, Doe Run, Lillian Moore, Belleville, Eva Rickmar, Bismarck. Raymon L. Cothern
Raymon Loyd Cothern, 70, died Oct. 1, 2001 at his home in St. Clair, Mo. He was born Oct. 28, 1930 in Maxville, Mo., son of the late Sherman and Edna (Lucas) Cothern. He married Betty Jo (Yates) Bunyard June 29, 1962 and she survives. Raymon served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as a mechanic and machinist. He was a great sportsman, loving to hunt and fish. He was of the Protestant faith. He is survived by five sons, Raymon Cothern II, Arnold, Roy Cothern, High Ridge, Matthew Cothern, St. Clair, Dale Bunyard, Williamsville, Doug Bunyard, St. Clair; one daughter, Sherri Mabrey, St. Louis; one brother, Dan Cothern, DeSoto; 13 grandchildren. Sylvia N. Miller
Sylvia Nadine Miller, 85, died Nov. 27, 2001 in Piedmont, Mo. She was born July 4, 1916 in Shook, Mo., daughter of the late Cornelius and Martha (Bennett) Helm. She married Raymond Miller Sept. 7, 1932 and he preceded her in death June 21, 1993. She had been a caser at Brown Show Co. Mrs. Miller attended the United Baptist Church of Piedmont. She is survived by three sons, Donald Miller, Ellsinore, Kenneth Miller, Ron Miller, both of Mill Spring; two daughters, Alma Kleisner, Mary Woods, both of Piedmont; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Nov. 30 at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont with Elder Darrel Silvy officiating and music by Genice and Sean Montgomery and Virgie Miller. Carl M. Hinkle
Carl Melvin Hinkle, 96, died Dec. 2, 2001 at Delmar Gardens on the Green in Chesterfield, Mo. He was born Sept. 6, 1905 in Brunot, Mo., son of the late Frank and Bertha (Deboard) Hinkle. He was united in marriage to Stella M. Brewington in September of 1933 and she preceded him in death Dec. 19, 1999. He worked for Ford Motor Company in St. Louis and was affiliated with Beulah Baptist Church in Brunot. He is survived by one son, Truman "Pete" Joe Hinkle, Piedmont; four daughters, Alma Luedloff, Manchester, Kathy Thomas, Belleville, Ill., Marilyn Gentemann, O'Fallon, Carolyn Dake, High Ridge; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Dec. 4 at Beulah Baptist church with Rev. Scott Hill officiating and music by Elsie Tumey and Sherry Parker. James A. Watts
James Albert Watts, 53, died Dec. 3, 2001 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo. He was born Jan. 10, 1948 in Perry County, Pa., son of Clayton and Mabel (Comp) Watts. He was united in marriage to Shirley Frymire Dec. 31, 1968 in Lutesville and she survives, residing in Marquand. James was a member of the U.S. Army, serving in Viet Nam from 1965 -1968 and was a member of Disabled American Veterans. He was a retired exterminator for Bradford Pest Control and a member of McGee Chapel. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Darla Fincher, Patterson; two sisters, Josephine Smeal, Gloria Capel, one brother, Boyd Watts, all of Pennsylvania. The funeral will be held Dec. 6 at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill with Rev. Lloyd Ray Green officiating. Burial will be in Perry County, Pa.

Coyle Hamilton
Coyle Hamilton, 87, died Jan. 17, 2002 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was born April 8, 1914 in McLeansboro, Ill., son of the late C. J. and Lola (Hooker) Hamilton. He was united in marriage to Katherine Daniel May. 23, 1937 and she survives, residing in Piedmont. He was a meat cutter with Ward's and later Piedmont IGA until his retirement. Mr. Hamilton was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Piedmont, having recently received his 50-year pin. He was a member of the Eastern Star and the First Baptist Church in Piedmont. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Marilyn (Jack) Little, Wilmington, Del.; two sisters, Iva McCormick, Ironton, Coline Steininger, Boone, Iowa; sister-in-law, Sheila Lovelace, Piedmont; two grandchildren, David and Mark Little; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Cristiana Little; nieces and nephews, Jim Sutton, Bonnie Suss, Marlene Cornwall, Terry McCormick, Joe Wayne McCormick. Pearl Allen
Laura "Pearl" Allen, 82, died Jan. 24, 2002 at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. She was born April 17, 1919 in Piedmont, Mo., daughter of the late Benjamin and Cordelia (Leach) Chiles. She was united in marriage to Lionel W. Allen April 17, 1935 and he preceded her in death March 3, 1978. Pearl was a homemaker and a member of New Liberty United Baptist Church in Piedmont for many years before transferring her membership to the First United Baptist Church in St. Louis. She is survived by four sons, Daniel (Norma) Allen, Fenton, Forrest (Shirley) Allen, Maryland Heights, Willis Allen, St. Ann, Dale (Evelyn) Allen, Woodstock, Ga.; two brothers, Earl Chiles, Lemay, Raymond Chiles, Williamsville; nine grandsons; four great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Jan. 26 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, with Elder Bob Webb and Elder Elmer Parker officiating and music by the Community Choir and Daphne Hershey. Myra Lee
Myra Jean Lee, 41, died Jan. 12, 2002 in St. Louis, Mo. She was born Sept. 6, 1960 in St. Louis, daughter of Jesse Birmingham of Greenville and Dolores Lee Altgilbers of Dyer, Tenn. In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sons, Justin and Jesse Dale Spruell, both of DeSoto; five brothers, Kevin Bodecker, Ft. Campbell, Ky., Mark Summers, Dyer, Tenn., Wayne Birmingham, Clubb, Craig Birmingham, Greenville, Cody Birmingham, Cape Girardeau; one sister, Fawn McCaig, Greenfield, Tenn. Wilbern Carl Walls
Wilbern Carl Walls, 76, died Jan. 26, 2002 at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was born Feb. 4, 1925 in Senath, Mo., son of the late Thomas and Gracie (Flowers) Walls. He married Robby Wilson May 16, 1944 and she survives, residing in Clubb. Mr. Walls served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He had been a custodian for Caterpillar Company in Peoria, Ill. He was of the Protestant faith. He was preceded in death by two sons, Tom and Connie Walls; one brother, Bob Walls; and two sisters. The funeral was held Jan. 29 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Greenville, with Rev. Gary Aubuchon officiating and music by Jeanie Hensley, Judy Osborn and Laurie Griffin. Pallbearers were Eddie Walls, Daniel Walls, Joseph Portscheller, Matthew Portscheller, Ken O'Dell and Gene Stroder. Burial was in Greenville Cemetery with military honors.

Joyce Rayfield
Joyce Rayfield, 88, died Jan. 22, 2002 in Columbia, Tenn. She was born in Reynolds County, Mo., daughter of the late William and Minnie (Brewer) McMurry. She was united in marriage to James Beacher Rayfield and he preceded her in death in 1991. She was a longtime resident of the St. Louis area, a homemaker and a member of the Jackson Heights Church of Christ. She was a charter member of the Moline Acres Garden Club in St. Louis and a member of the Maury County Senior Citizens. She is survived by one daughter, Doris (Gordon) Beck, Columbia, Tenn.; two sons, James (Betty) Rayfield, St. Louis, Robert (Janice) Rayfield, Springfield, Mo.; one sister, Sallie Dement, Greenville, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. Her grandsons served their grandmother as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the elders and deacons of Jackson Heights Church of Christ, Dr. Stephen Simmons, Thelton and Normarene Hill and Clifton Kelley.

Loretta L. Palmer
Loretta Lestis Palmer, 66, died Jan. 20, 2002 at her home in O'Fallon, Mo. She was born May 26, 1935 in Clay Starry County, Ark., daughter of the late Clayton Bradish. She is survived by three sons, Arthur Cagle, Phillip Cagle, both of Pensacola, Fla., Charley Morgan, Alton, Ill.; three daughters, Clara Grim, Pensacola, Fla., Pamela and Virginia; four sisters, Dorothy Austin, Hillsboro, Ill., Rita Reedy, Pana, Ill., Judy Castillo, Witt, Ill. Marjie Poole, Springfield, Ill.; two brothers, Clayton Bradish, Jr., Marissa, Ill., Charles Bradish, Waynesville. The funeral was held at Baue Chapel of O'Fallon. Burial was in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis.

Cecil Leroy Chubb
Cecil Leroy Chubb, 62, died Jan. 24, 2002 in Irving, Texas. He was born April 13, 1939 in Rhodes, Mich., son of the late John and Leona (Rogers) Chubb. He was a Navy veteran and retired from Seagate Technologies in Oklahoma City, where he lived for over 35 years. He was a former resident of Greenville and a member of the Community Church of Christ in Lowndes. Mr. Chubb is survived by one son, Robert (Manuela) Chubb, Irving, Texas; one daughter, Renda Chubb, Tulsa, Okla.; one brother, Roger Chubb; one sister, Patsy Charles, Defiance. The funeral was held Jan. 28 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Greenville, with Bro. Jack Rogers and Bro. Dale Rogers officiating. Music was provided by Roy Rogers and the Community Church of Christ choir. Pallbearers were Leo Charles, Chris Charles, Randy Charles, Curt Billingsley, Stanley Chubb and Matthew Chubb. Burial was in the Community Church of Christ Cemetery in Lowndes.

Hilda E. Bollinger
Hilda E. Bollinger, 86, died Jan. 26, 2002 in St. Louis, Mo. She was born Nov. 7, 1915 in Hiram, Mo., daughter of the late Rhett and Ora (Hill) Ward. She married George D. Bollinger Sept. 17, 1935 and he preceded her in death Feb. 19, 1998. She was a retired waitress from the former Stix, Baer and Fuller Tearoom in St. Louis after 50 years of service. Mrs. Bollinger was a member of the Hanley Road Baptist Church in St. Louis. She is survived by one daughter, Dorothy (Richard) Daily, Olivett; her brother, Roy (Mildred) Ward, Hiram. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Winford Ward. The graveside services were held Jan. 30 with Rev. Slade Johnson and Mike Ward officiating. Burial was in the Twidwell Cemetery, Clubb. Arrangements were under the direction of Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Greenville.

Clinton G. Sweazea
Clinton Gray Sweazea, 83, died Jan. 18, 2002 in Atlanta, Ga. He was born in 1918 in Piedmont, Mo., son of the late Elmer and Leila Sweazea. He graduated from Piedmont High School in 1936. He was united in marriage to Sarah Ann "Sally" Frith of New Orleans, La. and she preceded him in death. He is survived by one daughter, Juliana Sweazea; one son, Alan Hunter Sweazea, both of Atlanta. Mr. Sweazea earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Missouri in 1940 and a second lieutenant, infantry in the U.S. Army Reserve. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Air Force between 1941 and 1945. After pilot training, he was an instructor in B-26 medium bombers and flew 22 combat missions in Europe. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and was discharged as a captain. Mr. Sweazea worked for Delta Airlines for 40 years. He was regional manager, Caribbean with headquarters in Havana, Cuba until the Castro revolution, when he transferred to Atlanta and retired as assistant vice-president public affairs and public relations in 1986. He was a member of Saint Anne's Episcopal Church, past president of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, Atlanta alumni chapter, the Cherokee Town and Country Club, Buckhead Business Association, cofounder and past chairman of the Aero Club of metropolitan Atlanta, past chairman of the public affairs committee of the Air Transport Association of America, past chairman of the southeast public affairs group of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States, past chairman of the local and state affairs committee and past chairman of the governmental department of the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, member of the board of directors of both the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce and the South Fulton Chamber of Commerce, cofounder of the Atlanta Public Affairs Council. Private services were held under the direction of H.M. Patterson & Son, Arlington Chapel.

Jessie L. Burks
Jessie La'Rae Burks, 58, of Clinton, Md., died Dec. 27, 2001 at Southern Regional Maryland Hospital in Clinton, Md. She was born Feb. 10, 1943 in St. Louis, Mo., daughter of the late James and Emma (Austin) Allen She was a color photo analyst for ABC photo labs. She was of the Christian faith. She is survived by her son, Timothy Burks, Remington, Va.; one brother, Jim Allen, St. Peters. The graveside services were held Jan. 4 at Clay Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Dan Usher. Madge L. Renn
Madge Lucille Renn, 90, died Jan. 23, 2002 at the home of her daughter in Piedmont, Mo. She was born Sept. 11, 1911 in Pinkneyville, Ill., daughter of the late James and Mary Owen. She was united in marriage to Mellie Renn in 1931 at White County, Ill. and he preceded her in death June 25, 1984. Mrs. Renn had been a member of Victory Baptist Temple since 1989. She was a homemaker. She is survived by three daughters, Beverly (Raymond) Campbell, Portage, Ind., Martha (Michael) Hernandez, Gary, Ind., Mary Elizabeth Nicholson, Piedmont; three brothers, James Owen, Centralia, Ill., Nelson Owen, Mehlville, Ind., David Owen, McLeansboro, Ill; one sister, Wanda Miller, McLeansboro, Ill.; seven grandchildren; one adopted grandchild; 20 great-grandchildren; two adopted great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. Henry W. Matthews
Henry W. Matthews, 99, died Jan. 21, 2002 in Silva, Mo. He was born Dec. 1, 1902 in Cornwall, Mo., son of the late Charley and Jane (Berry) Matthews. He married Gretchen Bennett March 7, 1925 and she preceded him in death March 17, 1997. Mr. Matthews worked as a sawyer in a sawmill and for Corregan Construction in St. Louis before his retirement. He attended White Hollow Church in Silva. Those surviving are one son, Paul (June) Matthews, Lebanon, Tenn.; two daughters, Ruby (Harold) Smith, Silva, Beatrice (Jack) Robinson, Ellington; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Elmer Mouser, two sisters, Esther Hitzeman, Pearl Cook. The funeral was held Jan. 24 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Greenville, with Rev. Elijah Bennett and Rev. Clinton Massa officiating. James Ruegg read the obituary. Music was provided by Burnett Bennett, Becky Hicks, Rena Robinson and Linda Bennett. Grace Lavender
Grace Lavender, 91, died March 27, 2002 at Charlevoix Nursing Home in St. Charles, Mo. She was born Sept. 10, 1910 in Des Arc, Mo., daughter of the late Jess and Stella Johnson. She married William Lavender and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of Winds of Pentecost Church. She is survived by two sons, Stanley King, St. Charles, Donald Engledow, Columbia; one daughter, Lora M. Bauman, St. Charles; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. The funeral was held March 29 at Baue Funeral Home. Burial was in Friedens Evangelical Cemetery, St. Louis.

Carl E. Lane
Carl Edwin Lane, 67, died May 27, 2002 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. He was born Nov. 22, 1934 in Mill Spring, Mo., son of the late Carl Sr. and Katie (Moss) Lane. He was married to Linda L. Hamm in January of 1986 and she survives, residing in Piedmont. Mr. Lane owned and operated health clubs in Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas and Missouri before his retirement in 1989. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Patrick Lane, Dallas, Texas; one daughter, Carla Crabtree, Olatha, Kan.; one brother, Larry Lane, Lincoln, Neb.; seven grandchildren. There will be a memorial service 1 p.m. Friday, May 31, at Sam A. Baker State Park. Arrangements were by Ford and Sons Funeral Home, Cape Girardeau.

Phillip O. Hughes
Phillip O. Hughes, Sr., 77, of Green River, Wyo., died May 22, 2002 at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County, Wyo.where he had been hospitalized for two days. He had been ill for two months. He was born Dec. 25, 1924 in Piedmont, Mo., son of the late Rev. Ottis and Osa (Buck) Hughes. He married Alma Chatman June 3, 1951 in Harviell, Mo. and she survives, residing in Green River. He had been a resident of Wyoming since 1960, a resident of Green River since 1972 and a former resident of Missouri. He attended schools in Patterson and graduated from Patterson High School in 1941. He attended the University of Missouri and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture. He later attended the University of North Carolina and earned a master's degree in public health in 1958. Mr. Hughes served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army. He was a Bird Colonel in the Commissioned Officer Corps of the United States Public Health service. He was employed by the State of Wyoming Health Department as a state sanitarian for 28 years, retiring in 1987. Mr. Hughes was a member of the Monroe Avenue Baptist Church where he served as deacon for many years. He had been a member of the Hopewell Masonic Lodge No. 239 in Lesterville. He was an avid hunter. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Jonathan R. Hughes, Green River; two daughters, Phyllis Hughes, Green rivers, Rebecca Morris, Wausau, Wisc.; one brother, David (Sue) Hughes, St. Louis; four sisters, Sylvia Lane, Piedmont, Melba Bob) Bennett, Patterson, Juanita (Bob) McMahan, Piedmont, Ruth (Marvin) Darden, Patterson; sister-in-law, Pearlie Pendergrass, Nipomo, Calif.; two granddaughters, Porsha Hutson, Green River, Grace Morris, Wausau, Wisc.; two grandsons, William Morris, Ethan Phillip Morris, both of Wausau. He was preceded in death by his son, Phillip O. Hughes II; four brothers, Herbert, Arvel, Wayne and Earl Hughes. The funeral was held May 25 at Monroe Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Black officiating. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Green River.

Richard Stafford
Richard Stafford, 60, of Wichita, Kan., was born April 22, 1942 and died April 24, 2002. Those surviving are three sons, Richard W. Stafford, Wichita, Duke E. Stafford, Perryville, Scott Stafford, Rose Bud; two daughters, Teresa Helberg, Medford, Wis., Rhonda of Shelbyville, Ind. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa Marie Wren. The memorial service was held May 26 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Greenville, with Rev. Dan Ross officiating. Burial was in Camp 8 Cemetery, Greenville.

Jesse F. Mabury
Jesse F. Mabury, Jr., 80, of Fayette, Ala., died March 2, 2002 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Ala. He was born March 10, 1921, son of the late Jesse and Leona (Wilson) Mabury. He was married to Loretta, who preceded him in death. Mr. Mabury was a WWII veteran, serving in France, Italy, Germany, the Philippines and Korea. He worked for the Missouri State Forestry Department and resided in Piedmont. He also worked for Weyerhauser Company in Mississippi and Alabama. He served as deacon for the Fayette First Baptist Church, where he was a member for 44 years. He is survived by one son, Gary Mabury, Tuscaloosa; one daughter, Barbara Ayres, Maiden, N.C.; two brothers, Bob Mabury, Patterson, Rev. Bill Mabury, Blytheville, Ark.; two sisters, Margaret Brooks, Blytheville, Peggy Howard, Harrison, Ark.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. The funeral was held March 6 at Fayette First Baptist Church with Bro. Jimmy Walker and Rev. Bill Mabury officiating. Pallbearers were David Ayres, Shane Mabury, Ben Ayres, Tom Sain, Randy Doran, Josh Howard, Patrick Howard and Sam Collins. Honorary pallbearers were Arnie Howell, Doug Berry, L.C. Katherine B. Busch
Katherine Bertha Busch, 83, died May 21, 2002 at Three Rivers Healthcare South, Poplar Bluff, Mo. She was born July 30, 1918 in St. Louis, Mo., daughter of the late Carl and Caroline (Huber) Guth. She was united in marriage to Otto Busch Sept. 2, 1939 and he preceded her in death. Mrs. Busch was a homemaker and of the Protestant faith. She is survived by one son, Rodney Busch, Greenville; one daughter, Jennifer Garrette, Greenville; three grandchildren, Dewey and Mark Busch, Jessica Keeven; four great-grandchildren, Diana, Emily and Douglas Busch, C. J. Keeven; two step-grandchildren, Julie Bradberry and Bobby Garrette. She was preceded in death by one brother, Walter Charles Guth; one sister, Lucille Busch. The graveside service was held May 25 at Cross Roads Cemetery, Greenville, with James M. Ruegg speaking. Pallbearers were James M. Ruegg, Gary Gramlich and Terry Kincaid. Arrangements were under the direction of Ruegg Funeral Home, Greenville.

Roy L. Williams
Roy L. Williams, 75, died July 27, 2002 at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo. He was born Nov. 14, 1926 in Puxico, Mo. He married Norma Haile Dec. 23, 1957 and she preceded him in death Oct. 20, 2000. Mr. Williams had lived in Wappapello since 1969. He taught school in Potosi and retired from the Poplar Bluff School System. He operated and founded Ozark Gold Charcoal. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge AF&AM; and O.E.S. in Zalma, Puxico VFW #7822, Wayne County Historical Society, M.S.T.A., Wayne County Civic Center and Wayne County Citizen Patrol. He was a master tree farmer and attended the Bright Prospect Church. He is survived by one daughter, Debra (Robert) Mueller, Poplar Bluff; three sisters, Virgie Null, Mildred Hale, both of Wappapello, Myrtle Robinett, California. He was preceded in death by his son, Bruce Williams on July 22, 1973. The funeral was held July 30 at Morgan Sifford Funeral Home, Puxico, with Rev. Bryan Parkey officiating. Burial was in Wilfong Cemetery, Wappapello.

Harold A. Moss
Harold A. Moss, 64, died July 24, 2002 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was born March 20, 1938 in Leeper, Mo., son of the late Glenn and Artie (Lewis) Moss. He was married to Vivian Louise Moss and she preceded him in death Feb. 6, 1992. Mr. Moss was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He owned and operated Harold's Produce Market in Piedmont for many year. He was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his other half and friend, Kathy Richmond, Piedmont; one son, Rowdy (Shannon) Moss, Piedmont; one daughter, Lori (Mike) Hills, Armstrong Creek, Wisc.; stepson, Christopher Richmond, Piedmont; one brother, Donald Moss, Piedmont; one sister, Virginia Knipping, Washington; six grandchildren, Jacob, James and Donna Hills, Rowdy and Trevor Moss and Dillan Sutton. He was preceded in death by two children, David and Shelly Moss; one brother, Robert Moss; one sister, Ruth Ann Moss. The funeral was held July 26 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Piedmont, with Elder Bob Webb officiating and music by Donna Hills and Rowdy Moss. Margarette L. Clubb
Margarette Louise Clubb, 75, formerly of Piedmont, died July 25, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City, Mo. She was born July 8, 1927 in St. Joseph, Mo., daughter of the late Raymond and Myrtle (Dees) Moore. She married Lester A. Clubb Oct. 26, 1946 in Dixon, Ill. and he preceded her in death April 23, 1991. Mrs. Clubb was the owner and operator of Grandma's Restaurant in Piedmont and had been the personal cook for Gov. Teasdale. She was a past president of the Thursday Evening Study Club, director of the Sheltered Workshop in Piedmont and a member of the Order of the Easter Star #274 in Gray Summit. She was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Jefferson City. She is survived by two sons, Stanley Clubb, Piedmont, Michael Clubb, Ocala, Fla.; three daughters, Darlene Clubb, Sandra Hill, both of Jefferson City, Sharon Elder, California, Mo.; two brothers, John Duckett, Jefferson City, Frank Duckett, Rosebud; two sisters, Melba Steward, Bonne Terre, Claudine Jensen, Lakeside, Calif.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, John Duckett; one brother, Walter Duckett. The funeral was held July 28 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, with Rev. Ron Clark officiating. Opal M. Rayfield
Opal Myrtle Rayfield, 91, died July 23, 2002 at Mark Twain Manor in Bridgeton, Mo. She was born June 11, 1911 in Des Arc, Mo., daughter of the late John and Katherine (Lewis) Robinson. She was united in marriage to Vernon J. Rayfield Jan. 27, 1928 and he preceded her in death Nov. 9, 1977. Mrs. Rayfield was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. She is survived by two sons, Michael Rayfield, St. Louis, Jack Rayfield, Piedmont; two daughters, Charlene Haig, Louisiana, Mo., Shirley Schultz, Bone Terre; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren Preceded her in death was one brother, Walter Robinson; five sisters, Marie Miller, Rella Seal, Mildred Burgess, Mabel Huff, Erma Robinson. The funeral was held July 26 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, with Gene Moss and Jim Oliver speaking. Pallbearers were Brad, Buddy, Van and Brad Schultz Jr., Jesse Peterson and Allen Landwehr. William 'Bob' Douglas
William Roosevelt "Bob" Douglas, 74, died July 24, 2002 at his home in Piedmont, Mo. He was born Oct. 10, 1927 in Harviell, Mo., son of the late William and Gertie (Willcutt) Douglas. He was united in marriage to Janiece Lewis March 24, 1951 and she survives. Bob was baptized Oct. 19, 1975 and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Piedmont, where he was an ordained deacon. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Masonic Lodge 526 and O.E.S. #347 in Piedmont. He was a retired supervisor for the Missouri State Highway Department and a veteran the U.S. Army. He enjoyed hunting. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Janice (Tom) Stout, Ellington; one brother, O.D. Douglas, Piedmont; one sister, Maggie Kettler, Alvin, Texas; grandson, Jonathan Douglas Stout, Ellington. He was preceded in death by a son, William "Willie" Douglas, III March 5, 2002; one brother, Ralph Douglas; three sisters, Juanita McAllister, Mazie Douglas and Villa Ruble. The funeral was held July 26 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, with Rev. Jim Stewart officiating and music by the First Baptist Church Choir with Linda Niswonger, pianist. Harold R. Rankin
Harold Ray Rankin, 56, died July 26, 2002 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. He was born Sept. 8, 1945 in Poplar Bluff, Mo., son of Edna Maxine (Bilbrey) Morgan and the late Harold E. Rankin. He was united in marriage to Patricia House and she survives, residing in DeSoto. Ray was a commercial painter. He is survived by three children, Deborah (Darrin) Freeman, Jennifer Rankin, Arthur Rankin; one sister, Carolyn Guerrant; stepchildren, Eddie and Nathan Melton; five grandchildren. The funeral was held July 29 at the Assembly of God Church in Williamsville with Rev. Clarence Morrisho officiating. Burial was in Duncan Cemetery.

Tommie Faye Jones
Tommie Faye Jones, 92, died Sept. 17, 2002 at Pocahontas Nursing and Rehab Center in Pocahontas, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Jones and two infant sons. She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Severs, Piedmont, Janice Ellis, Maynard, Ark.; one son, Rex Jones, Maynard, Ark.; four grand-children; four great-grandchildren. Bill W. Parker
Bill W. Parker, 63, died Sept. 27, 2002 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was born Jan. 12, 1939 in Paragould, Ark., son of the late Bryan and Nettie (Gaither) Parker. Mr. Parker was a retired house painter. He had lived in the Annapolis area for the past 22 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and attended the Church of God. He is survived by his companion of 22 years, Sandy Sullivan, Annapolis; two children, Bill W. Parker, Jr., North Carolina, Mary Janeen Hudson, Mississippi; two brothers, Walter Parker, California, Mack Parker, Paragould, Ark.; two sisters, Vesta Howard, Paragould, Ruth French, Lafe, Ark.; several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Bryan Parker, Jr. The funeral was held Sept. 29 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Piedmont, with Rev. Steve Sale and Rev. Clarence Casteel officiating. Music was provided by Rev. Casteel and Virginia Dinkins. Pallbearers were Deter Rayfield, Derek Pierson, Brent Scowden, Mitchel Scowden, Oland Brawley and Jack Rutter. Sarah L. Hoffman
Sarah L. Hoffman, 82, died Sept. 25, 2002 at her residence in Patterson, Mo. She was born Jan. 23, 1920 in Boss, Mo., daughter of the late Clarence and Kate (Estepp) Camden. She was united in marriage to Homer L. Hoffman Jan. 10, 1937 and he preceded her in death May 12, 1993. Mrs. Hoffman was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith. She is survived by one son, Walter L. Hoffman, Patterson; one daughter, Linda Moore, Patterson; one sister, Edna Brooks, Salem; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were one brother, Clifford Camden; one sister, Ruby Wisdom. The funeral was held Sept. 27 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, with Rev. Elmo Parker officiating. Lorene 'Toots' Sisco
Lorene "Toots" Sisco, 85, died Sept. 30, 2002 at Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould, Ark. She was born Dec. 20, 1916 in Success, Ark., daughter of the late Horace and Mary Eliza (Harper) DeArmon. She married James Elbert Sisco and he preceded her in death Aug. 6, 1988. Mrs. Sisco was a homemaker and a member of Palatka Church of Christ. She is survived by one son, Elbert Wayne Sisco, Success, Ark.; one daughter, Doris Hawkins, Piedmont; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Oct. 3 at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning, Ark.

Alta A. Griffith
Alta Alean Griffith, 87, formerly of Wappapello, died Sept. 25, 2002 in Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas. She was born Aug. 30, 1915 in Mountain View, Mo., daughter of the late James and Eva (Atnip) Page. She was married to Raymond Griffith and he preceded her in death. She married Wayne Griffith and he, too, preceded her in death. Mrs. Griffith was a homemaker and a member of New Liberty Jack Town Church in Silva. She is survived by two sons, James Griffith, El Paso, Jack Griffith, Wappapello; two daughters, Betty Fegert, Chaparral, N.M., Sue Walters, Puxico; three brothers, Ernest Page, Aurora, Ill., John Page Poplar Bluff, Lee Page, Rockford, Ill.; three sisters, Ruth Wills, Jean Burchard, both of Wappapello, Hassie Thorkelson, Williamsville; 35 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Patricia R. Endicott
Patricia Ruth Endicott, 64, died Sept. 28, 2002 in Farmington, Mo. She was born March 21, 1938 in Mill Spring, Mo., daughter of the late Roy and Ellen (Laxton) Smith. She was united in marriage to Edward Endicott and he survives, residing in Park Hills. Other survivors include five daughters, Ava (Charlie) Crowley, Piedmont, Kathy (Gary) Douglas, Bonne Terre, Betty (Patrick) Crowley, Piedmont, Linda (Rodney) DeClue, Park Hills, Tracy (Bobby) Dennis, Park Hills; one sister, Betty Lou Marler, Mill Spring; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. Clyde M. Buchanan
Clyde M. Buchanan, 88, formerly of Piedmont, died Nov. 21, 2002 at his home in Springfield, Mo. He was born Jan. 8, 1914 in Van Buren, Mo., son of the late Patrick Henry and Sarah Josephine (Sheets) Buchanan. He was united in marriage to Alpha Goodson Sept. 22, 1936 and she survives. Mr. Buchanan was a song writer and loved music. He was an ordained deacon at Mt. Olive Baptist Church near Piedmont and served at Pleasant Home Baptist Church in Springfield In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Ronald Patrick (Peggy) Buchanan, Springfield, James R. (Janice) Buchanan, Springfield; three daughters, Millicent Ann (Charles) Wymore, House Springs, Patricia Elaine (Doug) Burns, Springfield, Priscilla Jo (Richard) Vaughn, Strafford; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Vergie Daniels, DeSoto. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. The funeral was held Nov. 25 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Piedmont, with Rev. Richard Vaughn and Rev. Lex Fox officiating. Thomas W. Kinnamore
Thomas William Kinnamore, 64, died of pneumonia Nov. 3, 2002 at the Veteran's Hospital in Denver, Colo. He was born Oct. 11, 1938 in Piedmont, Mo., son of the late Charles and Leona Kinnamore. He was married to Mary A. Kinnamore and she survives, residing in Colorado Springs, Colo. Tom grew up in this area and graduated from Poplar Bluff High School. He was baptized in the Methodist Church. He was a member of the Missouri National Guard and Marine Corps before enlisting in the army. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 device, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. He retired from the military in 1978 with over 21 years of service. He is survived by two sons, Kevin Kinnamore, Colorado, Anthony Kinnamore, Oregon; four sisters, Carrie Henson, Black, Madelene Fisk, Poplar Bluff, Fern Haynes, Phoenix, Ariz., Wilma Washington, Los Angeles, Calif.; two brothers, Bill Kinnamore, Piedmont, Don Kinnamore, Weatherford, Texas; two granddaughters, Simone and Hanna. He was preceded in death by one sister, Annabelle. Graveside services with full military honors were held Nov. 7 at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.

Thomas E. Toney III
Thomas E. Toney III, 59, died Nov. 20, 2002 at St. John's Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. after a long battle with emphysema. He was born Aug. 28, 1943 in Belle Meade, N.J., son of the late Thomas E. Toney Jr. and Jane (Grimshaw) Toney. He was united in marriage to Christine Ruble March 19, 1983 and she survives, residing in St. Louis. Mr. Ruble attended Kenyon College, Yale University and the University of Missouri Law School, where he received his degree in 1969. He was employed by the law firm of Fordyce and Mayne, later merging with Ziercher and Hocker. He retired in 1998 after 30 years of practice. He was a member of the Missouri Bar Association and the Evangelical Church of St. Louis. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mina Toney of the home; two brothers, Dr. Bruce Toney, Chatham, Mass., Stephen Toney, St. Louis; one sister, Jill Toney, Texas; father-in-law, David E. Ruble, St. Louis. The funeral was held Nov. 24 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, with Rev. Jack Ruble officiating. Robert B. Wildman
Robert Bruce Wildman, 84, died Nov. 15, 2002 at his home in Piedmont, Mo. He was born Feb. 22, 1918 in Neelyville, Mo., son of the late Walter B. and Florence Ethel (Miller) Wildman. He was united in marriage to Zelma Haywood Sept. 14, 1941 and she preceded him in death Feb. 17, 2001. Mr. Wildman was a retired machine operator. He was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Piedmont. He is survived by two sons, Ronald D. Wildman Sr., Rockwell, Texas, Robert L. Wildman, Columbia City, Ind.; one daughter, Patty Sue Nickles, St. Louis; one brother, Walter Wildman, Piedmont; three half-sisters, Ruby Sharp, Ellsinore, Sophia Fisher, Poplar Bluff, Carolyn Graham, Perryville; 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one half-brother, U.H. Bryant. The funeral was held Nov. 20 at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Charlie Gillenwater officiating and obituary by Rev. Tim Bridges. Herman A. White
Herman A. White, 86, died Nov. 22, 2002 at his home near Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was born Feb. 25, 1916 in Old Greenville, Mo., son of the late Claudie and Stella (Tipton) White. He was united in marriage to Leatha Rainwater Sept. 16, 1937 in Old Greenville and she survives. Mr. White was a retired carpenter and a World War II Army veteran. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Shirley Bennett, Carmen Conway, both of St. Louis; one son, Cecil White, St. Louis; one brother, Virgil White, St. Charles; three sisters, Juanita Rose, Greenville, Edna Baker, Illinois, Goldie Ray, Texas; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Jane White; two brothers, Columbus and Sherman White; one sister, Lottie White. Marvin E. Adams
Marvin E. Adams, 83, died Nov. 19, 2002 in Farmington, Mo. He was born Feb. 11, 1919 in Vulcan, Mo., son of the late John and Ora (Middleton) Adams. He married Ruth Lucille Ashburn Feb. 1, 1946 in Des Arc and she preceded him in death Dec. 13, 1995. He married Clara Jines Jan. 12, 1997 and she survives, residing in Piedmont. Mr. Adams was a WWII Army veteran. He was a member of the VFW and the Bible Way Church in Piedmont. Robert A. Stewart
Robert A. Stewart, 64, died Nov. 17, 2002 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was born Jan. 5, 1938 in Chicago, Ill. His wife, Rebekah Stewart, survives, residing in Lowndes. Other survivors include two sons, David and Bobby Stewart; one daughter, Maria Stewart; five stepchildren; 21 grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Paul E. Nichols
Paul E. Nichols, 62, died Nov. 21, 2002 at John Cochran Veterans Hospital in St. Louis. He was born March 15, 1940 in Caseyville, Ill., son of the late Donald and Claudia (Talliday) Nichols. He was united in marriage to Chris Haynes June 5, 1961 and she survives, residing in Des Arc. Mr. Nichols was a veteran of the United States Army. He had worked at the Hunter Packing Corporation and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Des Arc. Harold W. Walk II
Harold W. Walk, II, 34, died Jan. 21, 2003 in Columbus, Miss. He was born Feb. 3, 1968 in Lutesville, Mo., son of Wayne and Mary (Burch) Walk of McGee. He was united in marriage to Nancy Jean Barks May 4, 1990 and she survives, residing in Greenville. Mr. Walk was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a self-employed truck driver. He loved to hunt and fish. He had been an active member of the Jaycees for many years. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by three children, Lydia, Trey and Cora Walk, all of the home; one brother, Perry Walk, McGee; grandparents, Claude and Lawatta Walk, McGee. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Floy Burch. The funeral was held Jan. 24 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Greenville, with Rev. Bill Sargent and Rev. Clifton E. Rutter
Clifton E. Rutter, 37, died Jan. 22, 2003 at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. He was born Feb. 8, 1965 in Arcadia, Mo., son of Clifton L. Rutter of Annapolis and Lola Faye (Dean) Luten of Des Arc. In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Charles Rutter, Potosi; two half-brothers, Chad Rutter, Kansas City, Kansas, B.J. Lena D. England
Lena Dolly England, 89, died Jan. 24, 2003 in Piedmont, Mo. She was born May 31, 1913 near Annapolis, Mo., daughter of the late William and Bertha (Lewis) Alcorn. She married William E. England Dec. 2, 1935 and he preceded her in death. Mrs. England was a homemaker, who lived most of her life in Iron County. She was a long time member of the Walker Branch United Baptist Church in Lesterville. She is survived by two daughters, Glenna England, Piedmont, Dolores Lucy, Ironton; one son, Melvin England, Piedmont; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley England; one son, Arnold England; one brother, Lyman Alcorn; three sisters, Julia Alcorn, Minnie Alcorn, Dolus Overall; one grandson, Farrell Bryan Esmond. Elsie Ward
Elsie Ward, 82, died Jan. 25, 2003 in Springfield, Mo. She was born May 23, 1920 in Brunot, Mo., daughter of the late Lee and Etta (Reeves) Duncan. She retired from Wayne Medical Center in Piedmont and attended the Patterson Methodist Church before relocating to Springfield. She is survived by four sons, Keith (Essie) Ward, Mt. Vernon, Ill., Darrell (Marietta) Ward, Springfield, Tom (Sue) Ward, Fredericktown, Ralph Ward, Bonne Terre; one sister, Marie Long, St. Louis; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. William E. 'Billy' Condray
William E. "Billy" Condray, 25, died Jan. 19, 2003 in Ellsinore, Mo. He was born April 15, 1977 in St. Louis, Mo., son of David Condray of Lowndes and JoAnn Hawley of St. Charles. Billy was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was employed by Williamsville Stone Company. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Casey and Michael Condray, both of Williamsville; one sister, Jerri Sue Condray, Williamsville; one stepbrother, Jay Clinton Rainwater, Ponca City, Okla.; grandparents, Bill and Loretta Hawley, St. Louis, Barbara Condray, Williamsville; great-grandmothers, Wilma Bratton, Williamsville, Eufa Condray, Lafe, Ark. Claude W. White
Claude William White, 81, died Jan. 21, 2003 at Claru DeVille Nursing Center in Fredericktown, Mo. He was born July 29, 1921 in Minimum, Mo., son of the late William and Gusta (Chilton) White. He was united in marriage to Claudia Miller Jan. 12, 1946 and she survives, residing in Piedmont. Mr. White retired from Anheuser Busch, St. Louis. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the VFW. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific from May 1942 until June 1945. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Alice Ward, Fredericktown, Linda Townsend, Poplar Bluff, Doris Ramsey, Piedmont; one son, Wade White, Willow Springs; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Aaron Ellinghouse. The funeral was held Jan. 23 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, with Rev. John Radford officiating. Clyde M. Reed
Clyde Malcom Reed, 80, died Jan. 22, 2003 at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center in Farmington, Mo. He was born Aug. 29, 1922 in Vulcan, Mo., son of the late Charles and Martha (Hickman) Reed. He was united in marriage to Eunice "June" Middleton Oct. 18, 1948 and she survives, residing in Vulcan. Clyde was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Army and was a retired foreman for Brown Shoe in Piedmont. He was a charter member of Vulcan Assembly of God Church beginning Dec. 22, 1950. He is survived by three sons, Clyde Ray (Mary) Reed, Piedmont, Brent Wade (Rita) Reed, Elvin Trent (Patricia) Reed, all of Vulcan; two daughters, Janice Laraine (Gary) Schneider, St. Charles, Ill., Kerry Jalene (Paul) DeGregorio, St. Louis; one sister, Maple Jeans, St. Louis; 14 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by eight brothers, Claude, Bert, Chester, Cloyd Lester, Nay, Ray and Woodrow Reed and an infant; two sisters, Myrtle Ruble, Maudie Huff. The funeral was held Jan. 25 at Vulcan Assembly of God Church with Rev. Jerry Cuneio officiating and music by Trent Reed, Bill Bennett, Guy Stevenson, Terry Dement, Susie Dement, Helen Jackson and the congregation. Hilda M. Swanson
Hilda Margaret Swanson, 89, died Jan. 24, 2003 at Reynolds County Memorial Hospital in Ellington, Mo. She was born March 25, 1913 in Independence, Colo., daughter of the late Axel and Jennie (Johnson) Swanson. Hilda was a missionary in Chile for 42 years. She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Piedmont. She enjoyed her work and writing letters. She is survived by one brother, George Swanson, Ellington; two sisters, Alice Carter, Piedmont, Florence Talk, Arlington, Texas. The funeral was held Jan. 26 at McSpadden Funeral Home, Ellington, officiated by Rev. Charlie Gillenwater and Rev. Pat Fitzgerald. Pallbearers were Fred Allen, Elvis Hall, Carl Meister, Carl Meister, Jim Lesh and Bill Carter. Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery. James E. Kyle
James E. Kyle, 66, died March 23, 2003 in Des Arc, Mo. He was born June 27, 1936 in St. Louis, Mo., son of the late Willard and Dollie (Eldridge) Kyle. He was united in marriage to Alma Pauline Wolfe Jan. 15, 1958 and she preceded him in death March 7, 1997. Mr. Kyle was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a mechanic and owner/operator of a service station. He was of the Protestant faith. He is survived by three daughters, Melody Rogers, Adelanto, Calif., Theresa Young, Jonesboro, Ark., Judy Faulkner, Des Arc; four stepsons, David, Rudy, and Randy Dalton, all of Park Hills, Ricky Dalton, Kansas City, Kansas; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Bob Kyle; one sister, Wilma Jean Kyle. The funeral was held March 27 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, with Rev. Dewel Smith officiating. Pallbearers were Troy Silvy, John Griffen, Ricky Hoskins, Paul Strebler, Jason Stout and Andy Houghton. Burial was in Mt. View Cemetery, Des Arc, with military honors provided by the Veteran Honor Guard of Poplar Bluff.

Eula M. James
Eula Marie James, 67, died March 27, 2003 at her home in McGee, Mo. She was born Jan. 18, 1936 in McGee, daughter of Lillie (VanMatre) Wills of McGee and the late Clarence Wills. She was united in marriage to Hubert James Jan. 24, 1953 in McGee and he preceded her in death April 8, 1999. Mrs. James was a homemaker, a member of the VFW Auxiliary of Puxico and the Brush Creek Missionary Baptist Church of Zalma. In addition to her mother, she is survived by a special friend, James Laughlin of McGee, two brothers, Alfred Wills, Patterson, Bill Wills, McGee; five sisters, Mary Hill, Granite City, Louise Lafferty, Bloomfield, Lorene Williams, Wanda Rodgers, Norma VanMatre, all of Advance. She was preceded in death by one son, David James. The funeral was held March 29 at Morgan Funeral Chapel of Advance with Bro. Bill Sargent officiating and Bro. Lonnie Clubb assisting. Burial was in Brush Creek Cemetery, Zalma.

Thomas A. Shepherd, Jr.
Thomas A. Shepherd, Jr., 55, died March 27, 2003 in Marionville, Mo. He was born Nov. 6, 1947 in Annapolis, Mo., son of the late Thomas and Grace (Casteel) Shepherd. He married Barbara Hobbs May 14, 1973 in Campbell and she survives, residing in Marionville. Mr. Shepherd was a farmer. He was of the Pentecostal faith. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Glynis Alvarez, Columbia, Ladonna Brown, Fairview; two sons, Jason Shepherd, Holland, Mich., Kevin Shepherd, Marionville; five brothers, Mike and Dathan Shepherd, both of Pullman, Mich., Tyrone Shepherd, South Haven, Mich., Jeff Shepherd, Des Arc, Terry Shepherd, Mineral Point; two sisters, Rita Webb, St. Louis, Pam Buckner, Mapleton, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Amanda and Brandy Hentschel, Nicole, Clarissa, Dakota and Thomas Shepherd and Tyler Brown. He was preceded in death by one brother, Steve Shepherd. The funeral was held April 1 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Piedmont, with Rev. Clarence J. Casteel officiating. Music was provided by Rev. Casteel, Virginia Dinkins and Beth Francis. Pallbearers were Jason, Kevin and Danny Shepherd, Jack Elliot, Eddie Champion and Allen Gracia. Burial was in Annapolis Cemetery.

Mary 'Sue' Barks
Mary "Sue" Barks, 61, died Aug. 2, 2003 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. She was born May 12, 1942 in Poplar Bluff, Mo., daughter of the late Lee and Edna (Burch) Golden. She was united in marriage to Marvin Barks Oct. 8, 1960 and he survives, residing in Silva. Mrs. Barks was a 1960 graduate of Greenville High School. She was a homemaker and of the General Baptist faith. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Ronnie (Robin) Barks, Silva; one daughter, Rhonda (Duane) Eads, Clubb; one half-brother, V.C. "Bud" Goodman, St. Louis; one half-sister, Dorma Spencer, St. Louis; four grandchildren, Leeanna and Dawson Eads, Jacob and Caleb Barks. She was preceded in death by one half-sister, Alma Mae Casey. The funeral was held Aug. 5 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Greenville, with Rev. Willis Guess and Rev. Kenny Burchard officiating. Music was provided by Glendell Twidwell and Daphne Hershey. Pallbearers were Ray Stith, Jr., Chester Shrum, Forrest Monty Twidwell, Mike Green, Paul Ray Costephens, Jr. and Larry Hill. Honorary pallbearers were C.L. McLane, Truman Barks, Marty Yount, Carl Rickman, Frank Warmack, Jesse Birmingham, Paul Bridges and Darryl Smith. Burial was in New Prospect Cemetery, Silva.

Herman E. Wilfong
Herman E. Wilfong, 83, died Nov. 13, 2003. He was born July 16, 1920. He was united in marriage to Lois Rodgers Nov. 20, 1941, in Jackson and she survives, residing in Wappapello. Mr. Wilfong entered the CCC camp when he was 17. During WWII, he worked in a gun factory in California. He was a school bus driver in Zalma and worked at the Mingo Wildlife Preserve. He was a member of the Missouri State Highway Commission and initiated the development of Highway Z. He retired from Mingo Job Corps in 1966. Mr. Wilfong served as Wayne County Eastern District commissioner for eight years. He had been an active member of Bright Prospect Church. He enjoyed singing and hunting. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Herman (Becky) Wilfong Jr., Randy (Karen) Wilfong, all of Wappapello; one daughter, Carolee Wilfong, McGee; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. The funeral was officiated by Rev. Ray Placher with music by Glendell Twidwell, Daphne Hershey and Jean Placher. Graveside service was at Wilfong Cemetery with Alvie Richman singing.

Katherine Hamilton
Katherine Hamilton, 85, died Nov. 15, 2003, in Piedmont, Mo. She was born Nov. 19, 1917, in Piedmont, daughter of the late Albion and Velma (Hood) Daniel. She was united in marriage to Coyle Hamilton May 23, 1937, in Corning, Ark. and he preceded her in death Jan. 17, 2002. Mrs. Hamilton graduated from Piedmont High School and had attended every alumni banquet for the past 69 years. She was a bookkeeper for W.M. Luna Hardware store for 41 years. She served as secretary for the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 347 and was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Piedmont. She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn (Jack) Little, Wilmington, Del.; one sister, Sheila Lovelace, Piedmont; two grandsons, David (Sally) Little, Mark Little; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Cristiana Little; two nieces, Bonnie Suss and Marlene Cornwall; three nephews, Jim Sutton, Terry McCormick and Joe Wayne McCormick; numerous grandnieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was one brother, Osborne Daniel, and one nephew, Jack Jenkins. The funeral was held Nov. 19 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Piedmont, with Rev. Jack Little officiating and music provided by Glendell Twidwell, Oresta Atnip and Jeanette Turnbough. Pallbearers were Mark Little, David Little, John Sutton, Houston Sutton, T. J. Sutton and Gary Rose. Burial was in Masonic Cemetery.

Ruby Chilton
Ruby Chilton, 78, died Feb. 5, 2004, in Piedmont, Mo. She was born Oct. 22, 1925, in Deer River, Minn., daughter of the late Frank and Charlotte (Shilt) Burns. She was united in marriage to Otis Chilton Dec. 11, 1940, and he preceded her in death Nov. 14, 1977. Mrs. Chilton, along with her husband, owned and operated Chilton Grocery Store in Piedmont for many years. She was of the Methodist faith. She is survived by her twin sister, Ruth Gray, Piedmont. Preceding her in death were four brothers, Harvey, Earl, Leonard and Fred Burns, three sisters, Ellen Barrett, Gertrudy Thompson and Veda Millison. The funeral was held Feb. 8 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Piedmont, with Rev. Jason Abrams officiating. Pallbearers were Bud Jon, Michael Jamie Pruitt, Jerry Swedeen, Matt Swedeen, Justin Yoakem and Joseph Yoakem. Honorary pallbearers were Kayla Gray, Trebor Gray and Travis Pruitt. Burial was in Gressham Cemetery, near Ellsinore.

Joel F. Livingston
Joel Franklin Livingston, 73, died Feb. 2, 2004, at St. Francois Manor in Farmington, Mo. He was born Nov. 26, 1930, in Ruble, Mo., son of the late Lyman and Ida (Paul) Livingston. He married Jane Ford and she preceded him in death. He was united in marriage to Norwilda Siegler Aug. 17, 1966, and she preceded him in death. Mr. Livingston worked for McCabe Power in St. Louis as an assembler. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was of the Protestant faith He is survived by one son, Joel Franklin Livingston, Jr., Coquille, Ore.; one daughter, Gaye Lynn Taylor, Ore.; three brothers, Grover Livingston, Emmetsburg, Iowa, Jim Livingston, Piedmont, Gerald Livingston, Arnold; five sisters, Imogene Lucas, Jane Swope, both of Fredericktown, Lorraine Moore, Connie Eudy, both of Farmington, Shirley Luther, St. Louis; one stepson, Larry Siegler; one stepdaughter, Jan Rothweiler, Piedmont; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Leroy Livingston, two sisters, Helen Goodson, Martha Beaty, two grandchildren, Kristina and Michael. The funeral was held Feb. 9 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, with Rev. Chuck Lotz officiating and music provided by Glendell Twidwell and Rita Bridges. Pallbearers were Reggie Montgomery, Steven Livingston, Gerald Livingston, Alan Siegler, John Millikan, Dale Swope and Ted Eudy. Burial was in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis.

Edward D. Braman
Edward D. Braman, 46, died Feb. 7, 2004, in Cape Girardeau, Mo. He was born Feb. 26, 1957, in St. Louis, Mo., son of the late Willard and Dorothy (Hembie) Braman. Mr. Braman was a self-employed laborer. He is survived by his companion of 22 years, Della Foster, who resides in Greenville; three sons, Robert Braman, Thomas Braman, both of Greenville, Edward Braman, Jr.; one brother, Robert Braman, Scopus; one sister, Dorothy Jones, Marble Hill; four stepchildren, Mona Rich, Greenville, Karen Winchester, Van Buren, Frank Foster, Ellsinore, Dennis Foster, Hopkinsville, Ky.; 12 grand-children. A service of remembrance was held Feb. 10 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Greenville. Cremation and private burial followed the service.

William E. Akers
William E. Akers, 67, of Chesterfield, died Feb. 6, 2004. He was married to Penelope Brockmeyer and she preceded him in death. Mr. Akers loved to fly and ride his motorcycle. He enjoyed the outdoors and was a frequent visitor to Clearwater Lake. He is survived by one son, Patrick Akers; seven sisters, Helen Stuart, Ruby Ford, Erma Cooper, Dixie Niehaus, Delores Wakefield, Joan Bourn, Judy Elgin; three brothers, George, Jerry and Larry Akers; one granddaughter, Tiffany Akers. He was preceded in death by one son, Christopher Thomas Akers. The funeral was held Feb. 9 at Antioch Baptist Church, Chesterfield. Burial was in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Coy L. Tigart
Coy Lee Tigart, 59, died Feb. 6, 2004, in Piedmont, Mo. He was born July 30, 1944, in Newberry, S.C., son of the late Coy and Edna Tigart. Mr. Tigart was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in Viet Nam from 1962 to 1966. He had lived and worked in Houston, Texas as a truck driver for Williams Brothers Construction Company for many years. He is survived by one son, James Tigart, Sikeston; one brother, Bobby Edwards, Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Sue Mobley, St. Joseph, Tenn., Dorothy Hale, Piedmont; one grandson, Trey; adopted brothers and sisters, Nathan Hale, Piedmont, Daniel Hale, Millersville, Beverly Wymore, Arnold, Bonnie Funston, Herculaneum, Patsy Sullivan, Olathe, Kan. He was preceded in death by one brother, Bennie Edwards. The funeral was held Feb. 9 at Morrison-Worley Funeral Chapel, Piedmont, with Rev. Steve Sale and Rev. Daniel Hale officiating. Pallbearers were Bill Sullivan, Marck Funston, Tom Wymore, Everett Carter, Clint Johnston and David Johnston. Graveside military honors were provided by Navy Honor Guard. Burial was in Peach Tree Cemetery.

Fred Tibbs
Reuben "Fred " Tibbs, 82, died Feb. 3, 2004, at John J. Pershing V.A. Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was born Sept. 29, 1921, in Burbank, Mo., son of the late Reuben and Bernice (Thompson) Tibbs. He was united in marriage to Jean Renfrow Sept. 16, 1953, and she preceded him in death Jan. 26, 1962. Mr. Tibbs worked for General Motors in St. Louis as a spray painter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII. He enjoyed the outdoors and particularly, fox hunting. He was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by two sons, Darrol (Becky) Tibbs, Clubb, Randy (Selisa) Tibbs, Piedmont; one brother, Robert (Dorothy) Tibbs, Lowndes; one sister, Betty (Ted) Harris, Fulton; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Harry and Clarence Tibbs, two sisters, Edith Cottrell and Frances "Sissy" Tibbs. The funeral was held Feb. 6 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Greenville, with Rev. Kenny Burchard officiating and music provided by the Jacktown Choir and Barney Rothenhoefer. Pallbearers were Joe Eads, Duane Eads, Dave Wojtkowsklu, Marlyn Edmonds, Tim Burchard and Gene Stuhr. Honorary pallbearers were Leon Beaty and Marvin Evans. Graveside military honors were provided by Dexter Honor Guard. Burial was in Greenville Cemetery.

Ronald S. Yount
Ronald S. Yount, 68, died Feb. 4, 2004, in Imperial, Mo. He was born Oct. 9, 1935, in Hiram, Mo., son of the late Elmer and Gertrude (Matthews) Yount. Mr. Yount was a mechanic. He is survived by one son, Gene Werchow; one daughter, Pamela Freebersyser; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Darrell Yount. The funeral was held Feb. 12 at Schrader Chapel, Ballwin, with Rev. David Hoke officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park, Jennings.

Franklin D. Shular
Franklin D. Shular, 70, died Feb. 3, 2004, at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was born July 6, 1933, in Shook, Mo., son of the late Boyce and Opal (Ward) Shular. He was united in marriage to Ruth Inez Dougherty Aug. 25, 1956, and she survives, residing in Williamsville. Mr. Shular had worked as a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry. He was of the Protestant faith. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Debra (Donald) Duckett, St. Louis, Donna Shular, Spring Branch, Texas, Karen (Bob) Day, Naylor, Shelby Lindsay, Williamsville; one brother, Donald Shular, DeKalb, Ill.; one sister, Eva Smith, Lowndes; six children. The funeral was held Feb. 6 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Williamsville, with Rev. Richard Taylor officiating and music by Linette Nelson. Serving their grandfather as pallbearers were Brian Duckett, Robert Duckett, Amanda Day, Dale Day, Daniel Shular and Matthew Bristow. Burial was in Wesley-Dixon Cemetery, Hiram.

Gene Allen
Gene Allen, 68, died Feb. 9, 2004, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. He was born Jan. 26, 1936, in Piedmont, Mo., son of Eileen Allen, who survives and resides in St. Charles, and the late Clifton Allen. Mr. Allen was a purchasing agent for Brown Shoe Company for 40 years. He is survived by two daughters, Tanya (Randy) Myers-Brown, St. Peters, Gena (Jeff) DeLashmit, O'Fallon; two sisters, Perma White, St. Charles, Nina Brunk, Jefferson City; two grandchildren. The funeral was held Feb. 11 at Baue Funeral Home and Memorial Chapel, St. Charles.

Delmar R. Brooks
Delmar Ray Brooks, 55, died Feb. 5, 2004, at his home in Piedmont, Mo. He was born Feb. 15, 1948, in Des Arc, Mo., son of the late James and Nettie (Gray) Brooks. Mr. Brooks had worked for the Handle Mill in Des Arc. He was of the Protestant faith. His father preceded him in death March 23, 1989, and his mother, June 14, 2002. The funeral was held Feb. 9 at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, with Rev. Dewel Smith officiating. Pallbearers were Chuck Morris, Doyle Middleton, Jim Crutchfield, Alex Ruegg, James Brooks and David Brooks. Burial was in Mt. View Cemetery, Des Arc.
