Sullivan County is located in north-central Missouri. It is 15 miles south of Iowa and 65 miles west of the Mississippi River. The county seat is Milan.
The county's present boundaries were actually formed in 1843 when it was formed as Highland County which was attached to Linn County for all civil and military purposes.
A state census in 1844 showed that the county had enough people to become a full organization and was established February 14, 1845. Named after James Sullivan, a member of the Continental Congress of 1782, the county was divided into six townships: Duncan, Liberty, Morris, Pleasant Hill, Polk and Vrooman. County organization was complete when voting precincts were established in each township.[1]
Late October 2011: This month several updates to the Cemeteries page; all provided by generous contributors. And a MAJOR goal reached for that page. Each listing has been checked and listings provided to Find A Grave or Histopolis when found. In addition, two cemeteries have been moved into the new format.
Cemetery pages continue to be the focus of updates. I have no idea when Hatcher Cemetery was last updated. And only names were provided then. Since there were only seven names, I thought I'd try to find out a little bit of info. Gee, wish MY family was Hatcher! On that page now are links to what was found and if that's your family, you'll have contact information for further research plus probably birth, death, marriage information.
Again, be sure to read the note about the page. No cemetery set of transcriptions should be considered as being ALL the entries.
If you are interested in knowing exactly what pages have been updated or created, see the tracking of site changes page.
If you have any informationto add or correct, please contact me. (See the far right column.) If the source (newspaper, bible, etc.) is known, please include.

The site has been re-indexed by the Search Engine. This should eliminate the broken links in the old search cache.
Note: The search rebuild will ONLY work from the new format pages. If you are on an old format page, the search set up was done by the previous web coorinator & many of the links will be broken due to the rootsweb URL change.
