Sister Mary Anne OSF, formerly Katharine Miller 1860-1930 Sister Mary Anne OSF, formerly Katharine Miller of New Hamburg, Mo born to Joseph Miller and Elizabeth Leitterer on July 06, 1860 passed away December 13, 1930. In Memoriam - Within sight of the Diamond Jubilee, our dear little Sister M. Anne saw the Portals of Eternity open, as with the declining day of December thirteeth her life of seventy years ebbed away. Vested with the habit at an early age, she spent many years of her religious life in willing and cheerful service. The positions she held included the varied duties pertaining to the altar, the choir, the house, and the school. The Chippewa Indian girls of Bayfield, Wisconsin, among whom she labored thirteen years just loved their little Mother Anne. Superiorship subtracted nothing from her ever-ready-to-serve ways. The early hour of four o'clock would find her kindling fires in the cold rooms of her Indian charges still slumbering peacefully. She was ever faithful to her post of duty and at the Community excercises. Last summer obedience transferred her to Chicago. With a determined will and a great trust in God she assumed her new duties. However, her strength was spent. Rest and medical aid were ineffective, and her sweet and useful life ended in a death precious in the sight of God, a death which held no fear for her. While the entire Community mourns her departure, her relatives among the Sisters, especially her four nieces, feel her loss most keenly. However, the Heavenly Bridegroom has called her home and He will console the bereaved with His wonderful love and with the thought that He Himself is her great reward. Sister Anne's siblings; Sister Mary Gregory OSF (formerly Mary Miller, deceased) , William V Miller (Oran), Joseph Miller (Pine Bluff), Edward L Miller (Oran), Frank C. Miller (Oran), 1/2 brother Louis Burger, 1/2 sister Emma Burger Heisserer. Sister M Emmanuel Miller 1896 - 1944 Sister M Emmanuel, formerly Zita Miller of Oran, Mo, daughter of Edward and Caroline Kielhoefner, died at the Motherhouse on Monday, July 31, 1944, at 4 A.M.(DST), in her 49th year and 31st of her religious life. General carcinoma was the immediate cause of death. She had suffered from breast cancer for two years. Zita born on April 9, 1896, and was an aspirant at St. Francis Academy in Joliet. She became a postulant on December 8, 1912, and entered the Novitiate as Sister M. Emmanuel on August 12, 1913, then made First Vows on August 12, 1915, and Final Vows on August 12, 1919. She was trained to be a music teacher, having received her Bachelor of Music degree from Columbia School of Music, Chicago, Il, in June, 1927. At one time there were four Miller sisters in the Congregation, oldest to youngest: Sister Laurence, Sister Emmanuel, Sister Michael, Sister Virgil. Due to the health of their parents, Sister Laurence obtained a dispensation in 1942. * Sister Laurence lived in Oran and was known as Marie A Miller nickname "Toni". Sister M Emmanuel. b April 9, 1896 d July 31, 1944 formerly Zita Miller. Sister M Michael (Miller), O.S.F. 1899 - 1964 May 1, 1964: The ambulance was headed toward Cape Girardeau. Sister Angelica, returning from Cape to Benton, wondered briefly who might have been in an accident. It was only later she learned that Sister Michael, already on the last long mile to Eternity, had passed her on the Missouri road in the late afternoon. Sister Michael had been "ailing". There were such pains in her arm and chest--such difficulty breathing. She had called Sister Angelica in the early hours of Friday morning when the pain became intense with what the doctor suspected might have been an initial heart attack. When she kept her appointment with him in Sikeston Friday afternoon, he ordered her to the hospital. It was then that Sister Michael called Mother to give her the news. That was how it came about that except for Sister Roman, Mother was the last of her Sisters to speak to Sister Michael before the excruciating pain--very likely anginal--hit her with an agonizing force that threw her from the stretcher as the ambulance raced toward Cape Girardeau. She was not alone. Sister Roman who had accompanied her to Sikeston was with her as she began her last journey to Cape. She was with her at St. Francis Hospital for the hurried annointing. It was 5:20--just sixty-five minutes after Sister Michael had said goodbye to Mother. Neither could have known how final was the farewell. Sister had no foreboding apparently. There was only deep gratitude when Mother told her to come to Joliet as soon as the doctor dismissed her from the hospital. "You come home to Our Lady of Angels," Mother said, and Sister Michael agreed--"God bless you-- and thank you!" For Sister Michael was tired. Forty-six years of uninterrupted work in the classroom had taken a toll. "Please, no study this summer!" she had requested, and she was eagerly looking forward to a "rest" before September. Last May, Sister Michael was at Lansing when Sister Patrick was stricken. Did the memory of the Decoration Day flash momentarily across her mind? Did she think fleetingly of Sister Patrick's "I've got such terrible pain!" when the spasm suddenly knifed through her? Or was she, like Sister Patrick, engulfed in the sudden, devastating wave that swept her quickly into unconsciousness? Did her thoughts leap across the miles to Michigan, and was there a sudden desperate regret that Sister Virgil was not with her? On Monday, May 4th, the children of Benton will file into St. Denis Church with their teacher for the last time. Then will begin the long drive which will bring Sister Michael "home to Our Lady of Angels." "God bless you -- and thank you!" she had said to Mother. Undoubtedly she would have echoed that thought to all her Sisters who received in stunned disbelief the news of her dying. Earl J. Smith Funeral Home, Oran, Mo Sister Mary Anne OSF, formerly Katharine Miller 1860-1930 Sister Mary Anne OSF, formerly Katharine Miller of New Hamburg, Mo born to Joseph Miller and Elizabeth Leitterer on July 06, 1860 passed away December 13, 1930. Isaac Newton Williams Enterprise-Courier, Charleston, MO, Thursday, June 24, 1915 Isaac Newton Williams, a highly respected citizen, departed this life May 25th at his home in Diehlstadt,Mo., of a complication of diseases. He was loved and honored by all who knew him. He was a devoted father and faithful husband, and always a true Christian, having belonged to Rusell Church for a number of years, where he was Sunday School Superintendent for quite a while. He was faithful to his church and people. He will be sadly missed in this community where he has for so long resided. God knew best when he called him home from all his sufferings. He is now rejoicing in the great beyond where there will be no more sickness, no more sorrow and death. He was always true to Jesus who was his loyal Keeper. Every little child loved and honored him, because they knew he was a good Christian man. It sadly grieves the community to give him up but our Lord and Keeper had a little place beyond where joy and peace resides. He will be sadly missed in Prayer Meeting and all religious work where his shining face was always aglow with God's love. He left to sadly mourn his loss a devoted Christian wife, one daughter, Mrs. Mable Heselrode, wife of Bob Heselrode, three sons John, Charley and Clarence, and a number of grandchildren and a host of friends, who followed him to his last resting place, May 26th.
