| Text | Died, near Herd, Arkansas, March 17, of abscess of lung; James S. Bayless, aged 80 years, 4 months, 17 days. The remains were interred in the New Prospect Cemetery after services conducted by Rev. Atchley.
He had been a consistent member of the Baptist Church for fifty-eight years and was the last one of the charter members of the New Prospect Church where all seemed to love and respect him. He leaves a son and many relatives and friends who will miss him. He was born in West Tennessee; moved to Lawrence County, Missouri in 1849, where he stayed a short time and moved about 1851 to Benton County, Arkansas where he remained until his death. |
