Herbert Allen Nelson, Jr. was born June 20, 1938 to Herbert and Betty Ruth Nelson in Omaha, NE. He unexpectedly passed away Oct. 13, 2008 at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton.
On June 22, 1957 Herb was united in marriage to Marie Thorp. To this union five children were born, Norma, Peggy, Paul, Jimmy and David.
In 1963 Herb accepted Christ as his savior at the Baptist Church in Lead Hill, Arkansas. He, also, pastored at the Liberty Community Church in Aurora for five years and did revivals after that. He and Marie are current members of the First Baptist Church, Osceola.
Herb enjoyed family very much whether it was camping, hunting, motorcycling or the many family reunions. He loved life. Flying and working on planes was something he loved doing so much that he received his pilots license in 2001.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Alberta Nelson and his grandson Jason Jordan.
He is survived by his wife Marie; his children Norman and wife Janet, Bethel Heights, Arkansas, Peggy and husband Billy, Hermitage, Paul and wife Tammy, Calhoun, Jimmy, Osceola, David and wife Jennifer, Blairstown; grandchildren, Ryan, Jalina, Nathan, Braley, and Cody; step-grandchildren, Nick and A.J. Hampton; great-grandchildren Taylor, Arsen and Preston Nelson; four brothers, Richard and wife B.J., Duane and wife Jan, and Bobby; one sister Cathy Stewart and husband Kenny; along with many nieces and nephews. Herb will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Services were held Thursday, Oct. 16 at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel officiated by Reverend Scott Hill. Music selections included "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace" by Donna Carney.
Casket bearers were Randy Nelson, Eddie Nelson, Neil Nelson, Darrel Nelson, Dennis Nelson, Todd Stewart and Jim Stewart.
Honorary casketbearers were Ryan Nelson, Nathan Nelson, Bradley Nelson and Cody Nelson.
Interment was held in Macedonia Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home.
