GLENN H. HILL
(February 15, 1922 - September 6, 2008)

Glenn H. Hill, son of Samuel Benjamin and Katherine Mary (Clawson)
Hill, was born February 15, 1922 in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. He passed
away September 6, 2008 at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home in Appleton
City, Missouri at 86 years of age. Glenn spent his youth in Pleasant
Hill graduating from Pleasant Hill High School in 1940. He took a job
with Pleasant Hill Water Department after graduation. He was united in
marriage to Effie E. Spangler July 6, 1940 in Osceola, Missouri and to
this union two children were born. He served his country in the U.S.
Army during World War II with the 170th Combat Engineers stationed on
Leyti and Okinawa in the Philippines and Inchon, Korea. After the
service he entered mortuary school in St. Louis, Missouri working for
Brownfield Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, then later for
D.W. Newcomer’s Sons in North Kansas City, Missouri. Following his
time with Newcomer’s he traveled in Missouri, Kansas and Texas with
Funeral Security Plans. Glenn and Effie moved to Appleton City where
they owned and operated the Dari-Burg. Glenn was also administrator
for Appleton City Manor Nursing Home before purchasing Eckhoff Funeral
Home in 1976. He owned and operated Eckhoff-Hill Funeral Home until
his retirement. He was a member of the First Christian Church in
Appleton City, the Masonic Lodge #412 A.F. & A.M., a former president
of the Appleton City Community Club and a member of the Appleton City
Optimist Club. He received his 50 Year pin from the Missouri Funeral
Director’s Association in 1998 and was Grand Marshall of the Appleton
City Fair in 2000. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; two
brothers, Claude and Lester Ray Hill; two sisters, Margery Johnson and
Mary Miller. He loved to travel with his friends and has been to 48 of
the 50 states. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spent many happy
hours golfing with his buddies. His family was very important to him
and his two grandsons were his pride and joy. Survivors include his
wife, Effie, of 68 years; his son Richard and wife Jeannette of
Appleton City; his daughter Glenda and husband Kevin Jones of Chanute,
Kansas; his two grandsons Eric Twente of Edgerton, Kansas and David
Hill of Appleton City.

in Appleton City, Missouri on Monday, September 8, 2008 between 7:00 -
8:30 p.m. Military Graveyard Service: Missouri Honor Guard. Interment:
Appleton City Cemetery, Appleton City, Missouri. Memorial: First
Christian Church.
