Thomas Monroe Huffman, Jr. "T.M.", son of Thomas and Elva Gwinn
Huffman, Sr., was born Nov. 28, 1920 in St. Clair County and departed
this life Aug. 20, 2006, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada, at
the age of 85 years.
T.M. spent most of his life in the Rockville area. Upon graduation
from high school he worked in Jefferson City at the Capital Building
until he was called to duty in World War II. After the war he came
back to Rockville where he met and married June I. Cline on July 28,
1948. They started their life on a farm in the Rockville area, then
moved to town soon after he became the rural mail carrier for Route 1,
Rockville, a job that he worked for the next 28 years. T.M. was a
member of the Rockville United Methodist Church, where he served as
Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher for many years.
He also served the church at large as an on call lay speaker. Soon
after the Vererans of Foreign Wars started in Montrose he became a
member and until the later years enjoyed attending the meetings.
T.M. was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Harold H.
Huffman. Survivors include his wife, June I. Huffman, of the home;
daughter, Phyllis J. Love and her husband, Austin, Killeen, Texas;
grandchildren, Christina, Rena and frankie Vanderpool, Sedalia, Justin
N. Love and Veronica, Houston, Texas; son, Eugene M. Huffman,
Rockville; daughter, Joyce S. Mitchell and her husband, C. Dean,
Rockville; grandson, Barry S. Mitchel, Pawleys Island, S.C.; son, Jon
R. Huffman, Bemidji, Minn.; grandson, Matthew T. Huffman and great
grandson, Joseph G. Huffman, Bemidji, Minn.; grandson, Scott R.
Huffman, currently attending Iowa State in Ames, Iowa; a host of
cousins and friends.
Services for T.M. were Tuesday, Aug. 22, at the Rockville United
Methodist Church, Rockville, with Reverend Bill Kenagy officiating.
Musical selections were "In The Garden" and "Precious Lord Take My
Hand", with Bonnie Heiserman, organist and Chris Heiserman, vocalist.
Casketbearers were C. Dean Mitchel, Austin N. Love, Jon R. Huffman,
Barry S. Mitchel, Justin N. Love, Frankie Vanderpool and Eugene M.
Huffman. Interment was in the Rockville Cemetery, Rockville, under the
direction of Hill and Son Funeral Home, Appleton City. Memorials may
be made to Barone Alzheimer's Care Center.
