ROY WELTON BARNES

Roy Welton Barnes was born December 3, 1919 in Osceola to Charles D.
and Molly (Hutton) Barnes. He left this life May 29, 2007 at the
Veterans Administratiion Hospital in Kansas City.
Roy was the youngest of the eight siblings and he was only two years
old when his father passed away. He graduated from Osceola High School
in 1937 and married the love of his life on October 28, 1939 in
Bolivar.
Roy was called to duty and joined the Marines in 1943, where he saw
action in the Pacific Theatre. After returning from the war Roy held
various jobs, hauling milk, serving as county collector, and supplying
area farmers and residents with petroleum products for nearly 30 years
until his retirement.
Roy took the Lord as his Savior when he was baptized on March 22, 1959
at the First Baptist Church of Osceola where he remained a member at
the time of his passing.
Roy was preceded in death by his father and mother, four sisters,
Wanita, Mildred, infant, Mary and Bessie; two brothers, Jack and
Marion; one son-in-law, Frank Underwood, and one granddaughter,
infant, Miranda Jo.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nellie Mae Barnes, his six
children, Larry and his wife, Marilyn of San Antonio, Texas, Donna
Underwood, Stockton, Marty and his wife, Suzie, Harrisonville, Lynn
and his wife, Robbie, Adrian, one sister, Amy Cleveland, Osceola; 11
grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, one step great great
granddaughter and numerous relatives and good friends.
Casketbearers were Toby Barnes, David Underwood, Kelly Barnes, Tony
Barnes, Jamie Barnes, Mathew Underwood, Steven Barnes and J.G. Hudson.
Military Services by the United States Marine Corps were held
Saturday, June 2 at the First Baptist Church of Osceola.
Officiated by Rev. Scott Hill.
Music selections played were "Strawberry Roan" and "In the Garden" by
Dick Powell, "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Gail Ingle and "Amazing Grace"
by Brook Barnes.
Interment was in Osceola Cemetery. Arrangements were made by
Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.

Roy W. Barnes, 87, of Osceola, MO, passed away May 29, 2007 at the VA
Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 2
at 11AM at the First Baptist Church of Osceola with burial in the
Osceola Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10 until service
time Saturday in the church. Survivors include his wife, Nellie Mae of
the home, six children: Larry of San Antonio, TX, Donna Underwood,
Stockton, MO, Marty of Harrisonville, MO, Lynn of Pleasant Hill, MO,
Jerry of Osceola, MO, Cal of Adrian, MO; sister, Amy Cleveland,
Osceola, MO; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 1 step great
great granddaughter. Arrangements under the direction of the
Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.
