Roy "Homer" Carroll, 81, passed away Aug. 15, 2006, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law in Pleasant Hill.
Homer was born on March 25, 1925 to James and Grace Carroll in Osceola. He was inducted into the Navy in May 1943 and served on the USS Cleveland as a Seaman 2nd Class, being discharged in February 1946. He received the Victory Medal, American/Asiatic Pacific 4 Stars and the Phillipine Liberation 1 Star during his service.
Upon returning to Osceola he married Marion Hutton and they moved to the Kansas City area where their children, Roy Allen and Rhonda Kay were born. Homer was later employed by IBEW Local Union #124 for 25 years, retiring in 1982.
He married Carol Brown in 1984 and they lived on the lake in Edwards. They loved to fish, boat and spend time outside with their animals and watching the deer and turkeys that roamed the area.
With their declining health, they returned to Kansas City to be close to their doctors. After a courageous baattle with cancer, Carol passed away in August 2005 and Homer, no longer able to live alone, moved to Pleasant Hill with is son and daughter-in-law where he could enjoy his last months enjoying nature again.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Grace; three brothers, James, Glen and Gene and one sister, Mary Francis.
He is survived by his children, Roy Allen and his wife, Terri, and Rhonda Mynatt; stepchildren, Diane Ditto, Barb Radcliff, Mike Brown, Chuck Brown and Kevin Brown; 12 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Lena Rains, Clinton and Wanda Layher, Rockville and many other relatives and friends.
Services for Homer were Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel, Osceola, with Richard Sunderwirth officiating. Musical choices were "Take Me Home Country Road" and "I Will Remember You". Casketbearers were Kevin Brown, Chuck Brown, Matt Carroll, Mike Brown, Jason Wickland and Gary Kauffman. Military honors by Clinton VFW Post #1894. Interment in the Pleasant Mound Cemetery under the direction of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.
In lieu of flowers the family would like to request donations be made to the Kansas City Hospice, in care of the funeral home.

Roy Homer Carroll, 81, of Pleasant Hill, Mo., formerly of Kansas City, passed away August 15, 2006. Mr. Carroll was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a 25-year employee of IBEW #124, retiring in 1982. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 19, at 2 p.m. at the SheldonGoodrich Chapel in Osceola, Mo. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Pleasant Mound Cemetery near Osceola. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to the Kansas City Hospice in care of the funeral home, (417) 646-8135.
