Robert H. Jones, 91, Deepwater, passed away Dec. 7, 2006, at Veteran's Administration Hospital in Kansas City. He was born Sept. 24, 1915, to Jonas and Viola Smith Jones, Deepwater.
Bob was a World War II Veteran and served his country in the U.S. Army. Following the war, he married Norma Chiles, making their home in Kansas City where he retired from Union Wire Rope in 1977 after 28 years. Bob started each day with a hand of solitaire and Bible devotion and always read his lesson for Sunday school at deepwater Christian Church where he attended regularly. As a teenager, Bob and his family lived in the Ohio community and attended the Ohio Christian Church where he was saved and baptized.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jonas and Viola Jones; four brothers, Tom Jones, Jess Jones, Ervin Jones and Leonard Jones; two sisters, Mae Smith and Jo Knight; two sons, Gale Jones and Ed Jones; two grandsons, Lance Fleming and Bill Smith and great grandson, Hayden Brenner.
Survivors include Norma, his wife of 57 years; brother, Art Jones of South Carolina; sister, Jewell Winters, Independence; three daughters, Linda Smith of Texas, Lana Fleming and her husband, Rich, Branson West and Robin Stocking and her husband, Chuck, Deepwater; grandchildren, Charles Smith of Indiana, Michael Smith of Ohio, Shelly Cheney and her husband Todd and Sha Ree Kucera of California, Shanteel Korzep and Sharla Ballinger and her husband, Patrick, Las Vegas, Nev., Dana Kay Brenner and her husband, Jim, Nixa, Jon Burrow and Dillon Stockin, Deepwater; great grandchildren, Trevor, Bryce, Kelsey, Katie Lin, P.J., Hunter, Brady, Chase, Torrey, Bo, Madison, Maverick and Jake; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Services for Bob were Sunday, Dec. 10, at the Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel with Reverend Jim Knight officiating.
Musical selections were "I'll Fly Away" and "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow" with Dana Kay Brenner, soloist and Ruth Schmidli, accompanist.
Casketbearers were Jon Burrow, Jim Brenner, Mike Jones, Dillon Stocking, Bill Chiles and Larry Thompson. Honorary Casketbearers were Bob Lyon, Jerry Nichol, Jim Smith, Bill Nichiols, Joe Schmidli, Jody Brown and George Thompson.
Interment was in the Park Grove Cemetery under the direction of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.
