Maude E. Ledbetter Long was born October 3, 1910, the fourth of five girls born to Olive Boots and Robert McHenry Sam Ledbetter.
The fourth girl was Maude who married Harry Short Long on Dec. 9, 1932, and leaves two sons, Jerry and his wife Beverly of Lowry City and Jimmy and his wife Jenny of Raymore. She is also survived by a sister Julia, who lives in Osceola. For 46 years, Maude was a school teacher in several rural schools of St. Clair and Bates counties, also teaching fourth grade at Appleton City and finally retiring from Hickman Mills schools in 1974 and then moved to the family farm for a few years.
Maude moved to Osceola on St. Pat's Day, 1979. Maude suffered a stroke on July 3 while doing what she loved, weeding one of her flowr beds. She passed away on July 10, 2006, at St. Josephs Hospital in Kansas City.
Maude was preceded in death by her three sisters, Sylvia Hunt, Edna Fenwick and Lelia Teague, a baby brother and a grandson, Jon David Long.
Maude is survived by her two sons, Jimmy and his wife Jenny and Jerry and his wife Beverly; grandchildren, Craig, Coby and his wife Charlotte, Shawn and his wife Alsion, Danny and his wife Roslyn, Mike and Jill, Terery, Tim and his wife Cindy; great grandchildren Carly, Samuel, Chloe, Adam, Melissa, Hannah, Jesse, John, Emily, Trent, Adam and Melissa.
Services were Friday, July 14 at Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Chapel officiated by Rev. Bob Fenwick.
Casketbearers were Danny Long, Craig Long, Shawn Long, Mike Long, Coby Long, TIm Long and Terry Long.
Interment was in Harmony Cemetery in Appleton City. Arrangements were made by Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.
