County Pioneer Taken by Death

Elizah B. Long, 95, retired Summerville farmer, died in La Grande Saturday after 55 years in Union county.

He was born in Danville, Ind., on October 27, 1847, and came to Union county in 1887, locating near the Iowa schoolhouse. He went to work for the Summerville Cemetery association in 1901 as sexton, holding this poseton(sic) for 25 years. He was a member of the Baptist church since 1867.

Funeral services were held in Summerville chapel at 2:30 p.m. Monday and burial followed in the Summerville cemetery beside his wife who died several years ago.

Survivors are two nieces, Mrs. Bertha Russell of Coffeeville, Kansas, and Mrs. Alma Breashers of Eugene.
