Cecil Curtis Kauffman, son of Mattison and Eliza Jane Brooks Kauffman
passed away at his home on April 16, 2006, at the age of 81. He was
born on his family's farm north of Collins on April 20, 1924,. Curt
was the youngest of 10 children, Benjamin, Susie, Bernie (Dick),
Sallie, Verl Lee, Leonard (Snooks), Merl, Perl and Opal. Curt's father
also had two children from a previous marriage, Walter and Nova. He
attended Burgess School through the eighth grade. As a boy Curt
enjoyed helping out on their family farm with his brothers and
sisters. Curt was saved as a young adult while attending revival
services at the Assembly of God Church in Osceola.
On April 29, 1950, Curt was united in marriage to Fern Amanda Triggs.
To this union four children were born, Alvin Lee, Calvin Lee, Ivan
Curtis and Laveta Fern. They raised their children on the Kauffman
family farm. Curt and Fern milked dairy cows and raised feeder hogs
for a living. In addition to farming, he worked various odd jobs
around the Collins area such as helping build bridges, working on
culverts, mowing for the town of Collins, and working at the Bybee
Feed Store. In later years Curt worked for the DeKalb Seed Company.
Curt is survived by his loving wife, Fern, of the home; four children,
Alvin and his wife, Sherry, Calvin and his wife, Kelly, Ivan and his
wife, Cheryl and Laveta and her husband, Eddie Smith Jr.; 12
grandchildren, Jennifer Kirchhoff, Mattison and his wife Crissy, Todd,
Samantha and her husband, Robert Brannock, Derek, Deven, Charles,
Amanda Smith, Calab, Hunter Smith, Hydie and Cadan; and five great
grandchildren, Kyleigh, Alexandra Kirchhoff, Karsen, Christian and
Riley Brannock. Curt is also survived by one sister, Opal Crawford.
Services for Curt were Wednesday, April 19, in the Sheldon-Goodrich
Chapel with Allen Dale Kauffman officiating.
Musical selections were "Precious Memories", "Take My Hand Precious
Lord" with Allen and Czerna Kauffman, vocalists dn Gail Ingle,
accompanist, and "When I Get Where I'm Going".
Casketbearers were Willard Kauffman, Alvin Kauffman, Mattison
Kauffman, Ivan Kauffman, Calvin Kauffman and Eddie Smith Jr. Honorary
Casketbearers were Charles Kauffman, Deven Kauffman, Todd Kauffman,
Robert Brannock and Derek Kauffman.
Interment was in the Macedonia Cemetery under the direction of
Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.
