REBECCA C. HARRIS
Osceola Sun
20 September 1878
Of a Congestive Chill, on the 29th day of August, 1878, at her
mother’s residence in Jackson Township, St. Clair County, Mo., Rebecca
C., daughter of G.H. and T. Emeline Harris, aged 9 years and 12 days.
She was sick but a short time when death came to her relief. The many
tearful eyes evidenced how deeply the friends sympathized with the
bereaved parents. But our loss is her eternal gain, for we have every
assurance that when children depart this life they are sure of endless
rest. Therefore, we should not feel grieved at the kind Providence of
God, but strive to meet our little ones in a better and brighter
world. She has left affectionate parents, a loving sister and three
kind brothers, and has gone to live with Jesus.

On the 29th day of August, 1878, at her mother’s residence, in Jackson
Township, St. Clair County, Missouri, Rebecca C., daughter of G.H. and
T. Emeline Harris, aged nine years and twelve days. She died from an
attack of congestive chills, being sick but a short time when Death
came to her relief.
The many tearful eyes about her little bed as she lay resting and
sleeping that slumber which knows no awakening on earth, was a most
touching proof of the love and affection that the friends of the
little cherub held for her. Her stricken parents miss the sound of
little Birdie’s cheerful and happy voice, for the dear form once so
full of joy and life now lies beneath the sod.
But let us not grieve only as having to be separated from this child
for a short period. Jesus had need of her; she has only gone before
and will welcome we hope all her friends in the new Jerusalem. Yes,
she has left kind and tender parents, an affectionate sister, and
three noble and loving brothers to live with the One who said, “Suffer
little children to come unto me and forbid them not for of such is the
kingdom of Heaven.”
