Tessie I. Vogel, 77, Appleton City, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at her home. She is survived by two nieces and two nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at First Baptist Church, Appleton City, with burial in Appleton City Cemetery, under the direction of Hill & Son Funeral Home, Appleton City.

Tessie Ilene Vogel, daughter of George F. and Eleatha L. (Cotton) Vogel, was born July 31, 1926 in White Oak, Oklahoma. She departed this life at her home in Appleton City, Missouri June 22, 2004 at 77 years of age. Tessie’s family moved to the Appleton City area in the 1930’s graduating from Appleton City High School and later from Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, Missouri with a degree in Library Science. During her career she taught mostly English classes at Raymore, Butler, Virginia, Puerto Rico, Appleton City, Montrose and Deepwater. Following her retirement she substituted at local schools, worked part time at Petals West Florist, and volunteered many hours of service at the Appleton City Library. Tessie was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Prairie Queen Garden Club, the Hospital Auxiliary, the Retired Teacher’s Association, Appleton City Rebekah Lodge #724, the Order of the Eastern Star #157 Olive Branch Chapter, and the Wilma Weeks Circle at the First Baptist Church. Tessie enjoyed life to the fullest. She liked to travel and had visited all fifty states during her lifetime. She also enjoyed flowers and gardening. Preceding Tessie in death were her parents, a brother George Arch Vogel, a sister Treva Vogel, a nephew Robert Lee Vogel, and a niece Jennifer Elaine Vogel. Survivors include two nephews, Terry Vogel and wife Hye of Cole Camp, Missouri and Steve Vogel and wife Melanie Weaver of Deepwater, Missouri and two nieces Sherry Vogel of Lake Oswego, Oregon and Kelly and husband Len Anderson of Montrose, Missouri.
