Orvel Dull was born on King’s Prairie near Gerster, on April 10, 1916 to Isaac and Maude Ann Hedgpeth Dull and passed away on July 2, 1997 at the Sac-Osage Hospital in Osceola at the age of 81 years, 2 months, and 22 days. His childhood years were spent in the King’s Prairie community and then as a young man moved with family to the Black Jack neighborhood near Stockton.

Orvel then spent three years in western states with the 3C company.

On December 17, 1940, he was united in marriage with Nola Neoma “Kate” Gilbert. Two sons were born to this union, James Leon and Orvel Dean.

Orvel was a farmer and for 41 years operated a blacksmith shop in Lowery City. He also learned to play fiddle when he was a young boy and his talent was a life long enjoyment to him, he especially enjoyed going to the blue grass concerts in later years and spent many hours jamming with other artist.

Orvel and Kate spent all of the married life with exceptions of two years near Stockton, and one year in the state of Colorado.

Orvel was preceded in death by his son, Orvel Dean, on Nov 9, 1984; his parents, Isaac and Maude; four brothers, Truman, Alphis, Dee, and Freeman; one sister, Phinia Shryer.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kate Dull of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Beverly Dull of Lowery City; five grandchildren, Jeff Dull and his wife Stephanie of Lowery City, Tim Dull and his wife Dava of Lowery City, Kristi Dull of Independence, Lynn Dull of Warrensburg, and Kim Weakley and her husband Doug of Lees Summit; seven great-grandchildren, Alyx, Cooper, Dalton, and Gable Dull of Lowery City, Kaitlynn Dull of Warrensburg, Samantha Jo and Timothy Dean Rogers of Raymore; one brother Clem Dull of Independence; two sisters, Thelma Stephens of Dexter and Della Burchett of El Dorado, Springs; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services for Orvel were Saturday, July 5, 2 p.m. at the Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Chapel with Charles Braithwait officiating. Eulogists were Jeff Dull and Tim Dull.

Music with Candi Baker, Vocalist; Charles Braithwait, Vocalist and Dava Dull, Accompanist.

Casketbearers were Jeff Dull, Doug Weakley, Jared Ott, Tim Dull, Gayle Dull, and Wendell Burchett.

Interment in King’s Prairie Cemetery under the direction of Randy Sheldon, Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.
