Opal Frances Rhoads Elton was born February 14, 1914, to Hardaman and Gladys Holmes Rhoads in the Deepwater area and passed away October 12, 2005, at Truman Lake Manor nursing home, Lowry City.
Opal attended school in the Deepwater rural area through the eighth grade and then she stayed home to help out and care for her brothers and her sisters. She was a member of the Golden Gate Baptist Church in Deepwater.
Opal was united in marriage to W.R. Reg Elton on October 26, 1936, and they made their home in the Osceola area. To this union one son, Bill J. Elton was born.
Opal worked at Edwards Press and Osceola Greenhouse but mainly was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W.R. of 63 years and a son, Bill. Opal is survived by her daughter-in-law, Alma Elton Rodabaugh, Osceola, and one granddaughter, Billie Jo Elton Mooney, and her husband Brian, of Welch, Okla., other relatives and friends.
Services were held Friday, October 14, at 11 a.m. at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel. The minister was Rev. Francis Leslie.
The music was “Amazing Grace”, “In the Sweet By and By”, with Richard Sunderwirth, vocalist and Mary Lu Hildebrand, accompanist.
The casket bearers were Joe Hubbard, Wilbur Slocum, Basil Hildebrand, Tom Rodabaugh, Brett Shelby and Brian Mooney.
Interment was a King’s Prairie Cemetery. Arrangements were by Sheldon Goodrich funeral home.
