St.
Clair County Obits
LOUIS P. DUVALL
Louis P. Duvall, son of Carl and Amy Duvall, was born in Clinton
County, Kentucky, on May 13, 1849.
He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Chas. Cook in the Short
neighborhood, St. Clair County, Missouri, February 25, 1924 at the
age of seventy-five years, nine months and twelve days.
In the spring of 1867 he came from Kentucky to Kansas City,
Missouri, with his uncle, Sam Duvall and cousin Lon, driving a
schooner wagon on the trip. He was then eighteen years of age. In
the fall of 1868 he came to St.Clair county and located on the farm
now occupied by L.T. Curtis, three miles south of Lowry City. His
mother's sister, "Aunt Sallie" Stewart kept house for him until in
1876, when on January 2, he was united in marriage to Barbara Ellen
Zieler of St. Clair county. To this union ten children were born.
One son, Louis, died in infancy. The wife and mother preceded her
husband in death, on April 6, 1896.
The surviving children are W.S. Duvall of Lowry City; Mrs. Etta
Basehore, of Fostoria, Ohio; Mr. Chas. Cook of Lowry City; Mrs. John
Sparks of Gerster, Missouri; E.W. Duvall of Lowry City; Mrs.
Elizabeth Sheetz of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Della Richter of
Palisade, Nebraska; Mrs. Ethel Rhodes of Denver, Colorado; Mrs.
Almeda Denney of Nebraska.
For the last 47 years of his life Mr. Duvall lived on his farm two
miles northeast of Lowry City, and since he first came to the county
has never lived more than three miles from this city.
It was his wish that he be buried without any funeral service, so on
Tuesday afternoon, February 26, he was laid to rest in the Breon
cemetery west of town, with a prayer by J.S. Shumaker and singing by
some of his friends and neighbors.
