John Marion Hooper, a most estimable citizen of Corbin Community died
suddenly at his home, January 13th. He had been in poor health for
some time, but his death came as a shock to the community.
Deceased was born in Tennessee in the year of 1850. He came to this
community when a young man, 18 years of age, and has lived in the
vicinity of Osceola ever since. He was married to Mary Ann Wilson in
the year 1876. To their union were born nine children, six boys and
three girls, all of whom were present at funeral services except one
daughter, Lennie, who died at the age of 18 years.
He is survived, in his immediate family, by his wife and children who
are as follows:

Mrs. Cinda McNutt, Chetopa, Kansas
Mrs. Jessie Farr, Tulsa, Oklahoma
John Hooper, Smith Center, Kansas
Clevie Hooper, Sand Springs, Oklahoma
Robbie Hooper, Osceola, Missouri
Mrs. Maude Prine, Collins, Missouri
Mrs. Birdie Moore, Osceola, Missouri
He also leaves 25 grandchildren, one of wom, Leslie McCaslin, of
Tulsa, Oklahoma attended his obsequies.
Mr. Hooper was held in very high esteem by his friends and neighbors
and his passing brings deep sorrow and noted absence from their midst.
His funeral services were conducted at the Bear Creek Church by H.E.
Carpenter, pastor of the Osceola Christian Church on Tuesday afternoon
at 2:20.
Very appropriate music was rendered by the local choir with a special
solo by Mrs. I.R. Knight of Osceola. Quite a profusion of floral
offerings bore evidence of the sentinent in which he was held. His
remains were laid to rest in the Bear Creek Cemetery among the scenes
of his life's labors. The entire community shares in the sorrow of the
bereaved home.
