Jewell Dean Judy Powell, 70, Walker, passed away Friday, August 12,
2005, at the Cedar County Memorial Hospital, El Dorado Springs,
following a courageous battle with cancer.
Jewell was born August 31, 1934, to John and Mary Bastion Durnell at
Weaubleau, and attended Weaubleau schools and later Draughons Business
College at Springfield. She was the manager of Back Street Bazaar of
all Saints Episcopal Church, Nevada, MO for 18 years.
She was united in marriage April 9, 1951 to Kenneth E. Powell,
Collins. To this union three children were born. Daughter, Janet Lynn
Powell Massingill, Rockaway Beach and sons Gregory Kevin and his wife
Glenda, Nixa; and Darin Michael and his wife, Lori, Belleville, IL.
Judy is survived by her husband Kenneth and their three children; nine
grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three sisters, Delores Ott
and her husband Bob, Weaubleau, Betty Clary, Urbana, Leona Ashlock and
her husband Kenny, Bolivar; brother-in-law Raymond Powell and his wife
Wanda, Collins; sister-in-law Beatrice Powell, Springfield; one aunt,
Hesper Fellers, Polk; one uncle, Scott Bastion, Bolivar; numerous
nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Durnell; a
brother, William Ray Durnell; a sister, Rosemary Sackman and a niece,
Tonya Ashlock.
Services for Judy were held Monday, August 15, at Sheldon-Goodrich
Chapel with Father John Biggs of Saint John’s Episcopal Church
officiating. Musical selections were “Amazing Grace” and “Beyond the
Sunset”. Casketbearers were Robert E. Ott, Eldon Ott, Timothy Ott,
Dwayne Ashlock, Tony Porter and Brent Jones.
Interment was in the Robinson Cemetery, Collins, under the direction
of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs.
