James Alfred Underwood was born April 27, 1895 in St. Clair Co.,
Missouri to Elmer and Beatrice Inskeep Underwood He died July 1 1980
at the Independence Medical Center at the age of 85 years, two months
four days.
Jim Underwood spent most of his life in St. Clair and Henry County
areas. He was a construction worker and worked at the Dickey Clay
Factory in Deepwater until its closing. He was a member of the
Deepwater Baptist Church. In 1926 he married Wanda May Emerson. To
this union four children were born.
He is survived by three sons, James E. of Windsor, Elmer of Tarsney
Lake and Billy L. of Lee's Summit; one daughter, Mrs. Wanda Rose West
of Lone Jack; one brother, Clell Underwood of Appleton City; three
sisters, Blanche Manbeck and Faye Ballew, both of Clinton, and Grace
Richardson of Appleton City; 11 grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were July 3 at the Goodrich Chapel in Osceola with
the Rev. Jesse Taylor officiating. Pallbearers were Billy Dykes, James
Dykes, Dean Mullikin, Barry Underwood, Jay Underwood, Jim Ed
Underwood, and Albert West. Burial was in Westfield cemetery.
