Earl C.
Wood, the son of Grover Cleveland and Mary Ellen (Chastain) Wood, was
born July 20, 1918, in Henry County, near Windsor. He departed this
earthly life March 1, 2004, at the Appleton City Manor. Earl was
raised in Henry County and graduated from Clinton High School in 1936.
January 21, 1939, he was united in marriage to Esther f. Long. To this
union two children, Sue and Jerry, were born. At a young age he
accepted Christ into his life. Earl was the Standard Oil agent in
Appleton city for over 30 years. He was able to enjoy traveling to
many parts of the United States. After the death of his first wife, he
married Ernestine (Todd) Hall, and after her death he married Leta
(Hunsucker) Borum Stoltz. He was preceded in death by his parents; two
wives, Esther Long and Ernestine Todd Hall; a grandson, Steven Wood,
and a sister Lucille Goldsmith. He is survived by his wife Leta, of
the home; children, Sue and husband Bud Suse, Pauma Valley,
California, and Jerry Wood and wife Judy, Appleton City; sister Vera
Taylor, Independence; grandchildren Debbie and husband Ken Bero, Doug
Suse and wife Kimberly, Robert wood and wife Tammy, and Susan Wood
Caulk; great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Amy Bero, Kelly and Jessica
Wood and Chanler and Ashtyn Caulk; two stepsons, Gary Hall and wife
Marybeth, and Mark Hall and one stepdaughter, Barbara and husband Ron
Smith. Earl had been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for
over 50 years and attended both the Methodist and Christian Church
with his wife Leta. Funeral services were held at Hill & son Funeral
Home, Appleton City, Friday, March 5, 2 p.m. Pastor John Ketcher and
Rev. Tony Reynolds officiated. Pallbearers were Rob Wood, Ken Bero,
Doug Suse, Ron Smith, Kevin Smith and Mike Sawyer. Burial was in
Appleton City Cemetery.
