Monroe Fields and family of Humansville visited at H.A. Higgins’
Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. James Naylor have moved to the property occupied by
John Knight.
Mrs. A.J. Hord’s sale was well attended Saturday afternoon.
Leo Dawson and wife and sister, Mrs. Beulah Nesbit of Kansas City were
called here Monday night by the serious illness of their mother Mrs.
W.H. Dawson.
Mrs. Jess Daugherty visited Sunday night and Monday at the R.D.
Gardner home.
Wm. Bunch was brought home from the hospital in Clinton Sunday
afternoon.
John Schmidli of Kansas City visited his sister Mrs. Emma Haverland
Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. John Cooper visited at the Arch Cooper home near Chalk
Level.
Mrs. Pearl Witty of Lamar visited in Lowry City last week.
Mrs. Sophia Haverland visited last week with Mrs. Emma Haverland.
Mr. and Mrs. S.A. Cross of Springfield called on Miss Anna Kubachak
Sunday afternoon.
Eddie Scott, wife and baby of Kansas City visited Thursday with D.L.
McClain.
Mr. and Mrs. John I. Evans of Kansas City were called here Tuesday by
the serious illness of her mother Mrs. Pleas Stark.
Everett Disney, wife and son of Bremeerton, Wash., are here
visiting his brother E.H. Disney.
Jim Irvin and wife visited their son in the country last Wednesday.
Bert Davis and family of Iconium visited at David Jones’ Sunday.
Herbert Cooper and family visited Mrs. Richerson Sunday.
Uel Snyder spent the weekend at home.
Mrs. Kate Martin and son George and sister in law Miss Lena Martin
took dinner at the Ristling home Wednesday morning.
Good Cheer Club
The Good Cheer club met March 11 at the home of Mrs. Ben Gibbins.
The time was spent in working on a quilt for the hostess. A covered
dish luncheon was served at the noon hour to the following members:
Mrs. D.R. Wilkins, Mrs. Clarence Wilkins, Mrs. Coleman Gibbins;
visitors were Mrs. Ellis Moffet, Mrs. Chas. Hearn, Maggie Patterson,
Betty and Juanita Moffit and Dale and Lora Lee Gibbins. A very
interesting program was given in the afternoon by Mrs. D.R. Wilkins,
consisting of readings and a quiz test which Lena Gibbins, and Maggie
Patterson received very nice and useful prizes.
The next meeting will be with Mrs. Lena Gibbins on March 25.
Lowry City Club
The Lowry City Home Economics club met March 11 at the home of
Mrs. M.E. Hillegas. Mrs. Boyles was assistant hostess.
After a covered dish dinner Mrs. Russell called the meeting to order
and “America” was sung. The minutes were read and approved. The roll
call was answered by “Ways of Making Clothes Wear Longer”.
The lessons on “Chickens” was led by Mrs. M.E. Hillegas and Mrs.
Marvin Thompson.
The proceeds from the quilt sold by the club was $11.60; $10 was given
the Red Cross. The window sale brought $7.50, which goes in the club
treasury.
Birthday gifts were received by Mrs. Roy HIllegas, Mrs. Moutrie and
Mrs. M.E. Hillegas.
There were 14 members and five visitors present; the visitors being
Mrs. Lester Murray, Michael, Marcus Lee Rice, Jacky Carmichael and
Barbara Sue Hillegas.
The next meeting will be April 8 with Mrs. Carmichael as assisting
hostess.
Short
Gladys Campbell has spent the last two weeks with her grandmother,
Mrs. Otis Frazier who is having trouble with her back.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Woolery and Sherman spent Sunday in the Roy
Postin home.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Mayers and Jean spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Clarence Ballard.
Mrs. Barnett visited Mrs. Linville Saturday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Ned Murray and family spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Johnnie Murray.
Short school is proud of the new flag and flag pole recently erected.
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Cooper of Appleton City, Mr. and Mrs. Aubry Park of
Osceola, spent Sunday in the R.F. Barnett home.
The Short club served lunch at the R.D. Penn sale Monday.
Elmer Wright has been plastering at the Howard home.
Jim Lysinger and family have been visiting in the John Lysinger home.
Mrs. Ruth Barnes and children visited in the Charley Woolery home
Sunday evening.
Mrs. Burnett visited Mrs. Linville Sunday afternoon.

Miss Ruth Foster spent Sunday night with her brother Roy Foster.
Mrs. Will Lack and Mrs. Foster Lack and Carrol Ann spent Monday in
Clinton.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Link were Sunday callers in the Roy Mossman home.
John Simmons and Mrs. Glenn Snyder of Clinton visited their mother
Mrs. Annie Simmons Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Arlie Meredith, Mrs. Claude Mulkey, Mrs. Nettie Buchanan
and Mr. and Mrs. Warren Buchanan were Sunday callers at Calvin
Hannah’s.
Mr. and Mrs. DeLong of Saline, Kansas are spending the week at their
farm in this vicinity, better known as the Cloukey farm.
Mrs. J.G. Carroll, Mrs. Calvin Hannah, Mrs. Keith Hannah and Mrs. J.W.
Carroll assisted I.B. Carroll with his paper hanging Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Hannah attended a birthday dinner Sunday for Mrs.
Homer Salmon of near LaDue.
Richard Lyon of Nevada spent Sunday with his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth
Lyon. Mrs. Lyon is feeling better at this writing.
Mr. and Mrs. Cutler and family were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs.
Wm. Harvey of Osceola.
Mrs. Gafield has been quite sick the past week.
Mr. and Mrs. McQuarters spent last week with their daughter, Mrs.
Mickey Lonk.
Mr. Brice Aldridge spent the weekend with home folks, Mr. and Mrs.
Forrest Lack were also Sunday visitors in the same home.

A group of young folks attended a party Friday night March 5, at the
home of Charley Crane in honor of Ella crane’s and Evelyn King’s
birthdays which were March 5, and 12. Those present were Bonnie and
Eugene Perkey, Bernice Lannigans, Bobby and Wanda Yockey, Roe Dean and
Curtis Bland, Floyd and Clayton Haynes, Forrest Fields, Billie Davis,
Frankie Keeton, Orville Good, Vernal Crane and Evelyn King.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ellerman visited Sunday evening with Arthur Purtle
and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Yokey and family spent Sunday with Moody Yarnell
and family.
Glen Decker called on Kennie Smith Saturday morning.
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Crane and Vernal spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
R.M. Davis, and Billie.

daughter, Mrs. John Neuenschwander at Morrison spent the weekend here
with their son Carl Rapp and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Estell Rickeson spent Sunday with Tom Dodson and family.
Other visitors were Roy Copenhaver and family of Rich Hill.
Mr. Wm. Winter and Brady Hannah, who are among the sick remain about
the same.
Those who took dinner with John Haverland and family Sunday were
Albert Haverland and family, Gus Kalberloh and family, Clayton
Neuenschwander and family, Grandma Haverland, Simon Schapeler and
family, Troy Mitchell and family, P.A. Neuenschwander and Elmer
Mitchell and wife. Afternoon callers were Mrs. Louisa Neuenschwander
and daughter Margaret and Mrs. Hoover of Clinton. Irvin is leaving
this week to join Uncle Sam’s armed forces.
Eli Neuenschwander accompanied Troy Mitchell to Kansas City Monday for
a physical examination.
Mr. and Mrs. Urban Phillips and Percy Jenkins and family attended a
basket dinner at Kingsville Sunday.
Miss Mildred Schmidli spent Friday till Sunday with her sister, Mrs.
Raymond Alburtiss at Sheldon, Mo.
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Neuenschwander and little Robert Tompkins attended
the birthday dinner at Elsa Sampson’s Sunday.

Sunday night.
This vicinity was saddened by the death of Mrs. J.W. Sims. We extend
sympathy to the family.

Farmers in this vicinity have begun sowing oats, but the heavy rain
stopped them for a few days.
Word was received here last week of the death of Neal Nelson, who was
in Pearl Harbor. His mother, Mrs. Walter Biddler was formerly a
resident of this vicinity.
