From Our Rural Communties:
Thad Bledsoe spent Sat. night and Sunday in the Rufus Bledsoe home.
Clem Daugherty and family moved Saturday to the old Bessenbacher place
which he recently traded for.
Mr. and Mrs. Maril Woolery spent Sunday in the Campbell home.
VISTA:
Miss Willa Buchanan of Osceola was a week end guest of Miss Olive
June Coffey.
Homer Loftin went to Kansas City last week to visit in the home of
his sister, Mrs. Chas. Leer and Mr. Leer, and attend to business affairs.
Misses Norman Talley, teacher at Star and Olive June Coffey who teaches
near Iconium, spent the week end in their parental homes.
Jim Meredith of Kansas came recently to spend some time in the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Evan Lawler.
Albert Reynolds who has been in training camp for some time in Arkansas,
visited last week in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Reynolds,
leaving Wednesday for St. Joseph, where he will be in the same work.
Mr. and Mrs. Price Collins of Gerster attended the Lysle sale here
Monday afternoon.
The pie supper and program Friday night by Miss June Garrison and
pupils was well attended, despite the stormy weather. A nice sum was
realized from the sale of the pies.
Mr. and Mrs. Homer Graham were Sunday guests in the home of his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Graham.
Carlos Williams of St. Louis came last week for a visit in the homes
of his uncles, C. E. and George Reynolds.
Mrs. Della Stubbs and Cleo Reynolds were attending to business affairs
in Weaubleau last Tuesday.
C. L. Foote went to Kansas City Monday of last week with a truck load
of hogs and Burnie Perry of Collins stopped here Wednesday on his
way to the city market.
Bert Whiting and Walter Parker, moved their saw mill this week from
the Jim Herndon place to the farm where Aldo Milliam lives.
Most of the Vista young people attended the shower given Wednesday
nite for Mr. and Mrs. Homer Graham at their home and all report having
a fine time.
Last week seemed to be general butchering time so many taking advantage
of the cold weather and thereby saving feeding most of the $1.00 corn
to fattening hogs, some we know of here were Jap Bishop, Evan Lawler,
R. Elliott, D. W. Rainey, B. Rodgers, E. P. Coffey and Claude and
Walter Dyer, C. E. George, so people need not visit in any of these
homes unless they like sausage, spare ribs or back bones.
Tom Graham who has been an intense sufferer all fall from neuritis
is seemingly improving and his friends hope for him a complete recovery
soon.
Mr. and Mrs. George Reynolds entertained a number of relatives and
friends at their home with a Thanksgiving dinner, which we failed
to hear of in time for last weeks items. Those enjoying the bountiful
dinner were Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Reynolds and sons Charlie and Rolland
Reynolds, Doris and Neta Buddy all from Humansville.
Mrs. Della Stubbs, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Reynolds, Emmett Gordon, Mr.
and Mrs. George Reynolds, Vernon, Gladys, Thelma, Naomi, Bobby, Cleo,
Eugene, Gerald, Verlis and Wilma Reynolds.
LOWRY CITY:
Miss Elizabeth Ross visited several days last week with her sister
and family, Mrs. Wesley Hilty of near Clinton.
Rev. H. Sperry, Jake Wright, wife and son Olin spent Sunday in the
Carl Jackson home.
John Jeffrey is improving of his illness but not as fast as we could
like. We miss him from SS and church.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Lvsinger [sic] entertained her sisters Sunday.
Della Lee and Helen Simpson were guests of Polly Matlock Sunday.
Vivian Simpson spent Sunday with Helen Ferguson.
T. J. Ross called on Orville Herman Sunday afternoon.
Roy Denny and family, Walter Mynatt and wife and Nina Simmons left
for California Saturday of last week.
Mrs. Hettie Lawson is at her sons now. She has been staying with Mrs.
Doe Crayne, but as Mr. Crayne needed a man to help care of him Mr.
Lee Duff is acting as nurse.
Claud Morris, wife and sons called at the Will Holmes home Sunday
afternoon.
Mrs. M. H. Harris went to Kansas City to spend a few days with her
daughter who is in the hospital. It won't be so many days before Mrs.
G. P. Crawford will be home her many friends hope.
John Nelson, wife and son spent Saturday with their daughter, Mrs.
Asher Williams and husband of Clinton.
Mrs. Dan Kendrick is on the sick list.
Mrs. C. S. Stratton left Thursday for a visit with her daughter Mrs.
Clarence Lindenmeyer and family of St. Louis.
John Kent and wife are moving near Deepwater. We are sorry to have
them leave, but not so far but what they can come back some time.
Mr. Frank Babcock has the Post and Journal papers now. Mr. Boyles
still has the Springfield Leader. Mr. Boyles is having trouble with
his throat.
Ralph Greenwell and family of Kansas City visited in the Claud Morris
home also in the John Greenwell home last week.
Mrs. David Crawford and children of Kansas City visited in the Claud
Morris home Monday night.
PRAIRIE HOME:
We have been having very unsettled weather the past week. Looks like
old man winter is here to stay with us.
Thad Bledsoe went to Osceola last Saturday on business. He will be
gone until Tuesday. Mrs. Chaney has been staying with Mrs. Bledsoe
of nights during his absence.
Prairie Home Ladies Aid Society met with an all day meeting Wednesday,
Dec. 5. with Mrs. Ray Silvers and mother. All members were present
but one. The ladies nearly completed quilting a quilt. Each member
brought a covered dish and what a dinner was spread. The hostess had
two contests in which all members took part. Mrs. Shoemaker and Mrs.
Louise Waters won first prizes.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Silvers and daughter went to Ohio Sunday to bring
Mrs. Silver's cousin, Miss Marie Harper home with them for a week's
visit. Miss Harper's home is in Plattsburg. She has been visiting
relatives in St. Clair county since late October. She plans to visit
an uncle at Ash Grove before returning to her home.
Miss Waneta Moore and Ralph Allis visited in the George Fry home near
Johnson City Sunday.
Mrs. A. M. Hopkins went to Appleton City Saturday to have an infected
thumb lanced that has been causing her much trouble.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Dains visited Mrs. Dain's parents Sunday afternoon.
STONY POINT:
Winter weather still continues to stay with us. Tis hard on live stock
not properly fed.
We are glad to see Hogles Creek correspondent back on the job. We
missed your interesting items.
Most every one butchered hogs to save feed and avoid Cholera.
Della Belle Stark is visiting her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Lepp.
Mrs. Raymond Stevens was hostess to the Just-a-mere club Thursday
afternoon. All members present except two. Mrs. Walter Richardson
was the invited guest.
Chas. Mitchem and sons visited Sunday afternoon with Billie Evans.
D. C. Dade who has been ill for the past several weeks is reported
to be improving slowly.
