Osceola, Missouri 16 August 1917 Joe Rippetoe has been sick with the same malady that has been common in this neighborhood for some time. We are glad to report him much better. We understand that Guthrie Garrison who has been working in North, Mo., and a former Bear Creek boy has enlisted and expects to leave at once for training. Mrs. Bailey Warren and daughter, Miss Harriet, who have been visiting at the home of Mrs. Warren's sister, Mrs. Ella Box, returned to their home in West Plains, Mo., Thursday. Gran Scott and wife of Iconium spent a day or two with Mrs. Scott's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Poling the latter part of the week. Their little daughter Ekla, was quite sick during their stay. Quite a crowd from Square Prairie attended church at Bear Creek Saturday night and Sunday, among whom were, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Disney and daughter, Mrs. Eddie Wisner and daughter, Mrs. Watts, Mrs. Miller and a number of them. Threshing is the order of the day in this neighborhood. The threshers came to Jim Meredith's home Saturday and after threshing for him moved on to Jerry Wisner's, Hugh Logan's and Baily Wisner's. They will move on until they finish the work in Horseshoe Bend. Wheat and oats are turning out unusually well. The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Wisner of Osceola was buried at Bear Creek church Cemetery Saturday afternoon. The little one had been sick with summer complaint only a few days. The mother is prostrated with constant watching and grief. They have the sympathy of the entire community. Miss Rosamond DeLee, Wallace DeLee and Margaret Sheldon have completed arrangements to attend the Osceola High school this winter and Miss Roxy Rippetoe will stay in town to take music. We will miss these young people from our midst, but are glad to see them trying to get a higher education than our community offers. Mrs. Stella DeLee Barber of Kansas City arrived this last week with her little daughter Lucy DeLis for a visit at the home of her parents. Mrs. Barber was one of our most beloved girls and we are always glad to have her return to us. She is suffering with asthma at present. Kings Prairie Items Waldo Hemphill and wife visited with her parents this week. Tom Hammond and wife spent Sunday with Jack Haden and wife. There were but few attended Sunday school Sunday but had a very good lesson. Bird Allen and wife returned to their home Sunday after the funeral of her mother. Elmer Hemphill and wife were made glad with a new baby boy at their home last Wednesday night. Mrs. Till Collins is on the prairie this week visiting with her father and family and other relatives. Delbert Green's baby has been sick and they called the Dr. to see it this week, but is better at this writing. The doctor from Quincy was called twice this week to see Mrs. Alvin Norris she was real sick but is better at this writing. Racket from Lewis. Sylvia Wilcox spent Sunday with Sarah Seymour. Chas Hoover visited with J.W. Sims and family Sunday. Miss Flossie Rose spent Sunday with Miss Lillian Wilcox. Miss Jessie Seymo spent Sunday evening with Miss Margaret Sims. Russell Sims spent Monday with his grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Smith. All day service was held at Lewis last Sunday. A large crowd was present. Miss Grace Sims received her diploma Saturday. She will teach at Lewis this year. Mr. and Mrs. Russel Fisk spent Sunday with Mrs. Fisk's parents, C.F. Seymour and wife. Sunday school is held every Sunday morning at 10:00 o'clock. Everyone is invited to attend. The Gospel Team will hold service at Lewis next Sunday at 3:00 p.m. A cordial welcome is extended to all. Supt. E.O. Earnheart was absent from Sunday school Sunday on account of an appointment at Deepwater. C.F. Seymour, having purchased a new Ford, will depart soon with his family for San Bernardino, California, where he will spend about a month visiting relatives. We wish them a very successful trip. Birdsong. James Thompson visited at the home of Arthur Capps and family Sunday. J.W. Coffin, Mrs. J.W. Deshazo were visitors of Mrs. J.Y. Wilson's Saturday. A singing was given Sunday night to the young people at the home of Mr. Crandall. Miss Ona Lewellen, from Chetopa, Kansas is now visiting with Miss Eula Capps. Lawrence Capps and wife and Eula Capps motored up to Clinton Saturday afternoon. Quite a lot from this neighborhood attended the Humansville reunion last week, most all report a good time. Ed Murry and family came in this community Tuesday evening in their car from Oklahoma for a visit with Mrs. J.O. Deshazo and family. |
