Removal.
Mr. B.F. Wellman has removed his paint shop from Monroe’s building to his residence, just west of the lumber yard, where those desiring work will find him.

University Scholar.
Charlie Daniels, the scholar to the State University from this county, left for Columbia to commence his studies on Monday last. We look for a good report of his progress.

Quarterly Meeting.
We learn that the quarterly Meeting of the Methodist Church will be held here on Saturday and Sunday next. The presiding Elder, Rev. T.H. Haggerty, will be present and preach.

Dentistry.
Dr. H. Green, of Clinton, is again paying a visit to Osceola, and offers his services to our citizens in the dental practice. He may be found at Mr. G.H. Whitaker’s, where he has rooms.

Masonic Dedication.
On Tuesday last the Masonic Fraternity of Butler dedicated their new and elegant hall just completed. Hon. S.S. Burdett, of this place, was present by request and delivered the dedicatory address.

A Nice Party.
We neglected last week to refer to the nice little social dance had in Osceola an evening or two before. Those present report a most enjoyable affair – so much so that they propose repeating it in a few days.

Comps.
From I.N. Hicks, of Kansas, we have received a couple of complimentary tickets to the First Annual Exposition, to be held in that city on the 16th of October.
Also, from T.A. Switzler, Secretary, a ticket to the Second Annual Fair of Pettis county.
Gentlemen, consider our hat touched – we’ll come if we can.

Partner Wanted.
John T. Hopkinson, proprietor of the Eclipse Steam Flouring Mill, in this place, is desirous of securing a partner. The mill is doing a first-class business, and the only reason for desiring to dispose of a half-interest, is that the facilities and capacity of the mill may be increased. For terms, etc., address, John T. Hopkinson, Osceola, Mo.

Baking.
Messrs. Byler & Randall, late of Clinton, are putting up a Bakery and Confectionary store in one of Batchelor & Hicks’ buildings on Second street. Both gentlemen thoroughly understand the business in which they are about to engage, and will provide our people with the best articles in their line. They will have their oven completed, and get to business in a day or two.

A.M. Friend, of B.A. Fieneman & Co., Kansas City, made his regular call upon Osceola this week.

Appleton City Argus.
We have received number of the Appleton City Argus, edited and published by Stone & Myers, at Appleton City, this county. The Argus presents a first rate appearance, both editorially and mechanically. In politics it is Republican to the backbone. We wish the Argus every success.

Notice.
Persons indebted to the Town of Osceola for a street tax of $3 levied against them for the year 1871 can have an opportunity of working next Thursday and Friday, or furnish a band, or pay $3, as I shall make my report to the Town Board soon after that time. Those entitled to receipts for street tax for 1871, can get them at the Democrat office.
Thad. M. Gardner, Street Superintendent.

The School Election.
The election for school officers on Saturday last passed off satisfactorily. The Democracy had brought out a ticket the week before, but the dissatisfaction at their nominees, compelled the withdrawal of Mr. Donovan and the placing of a Republican, Mr. Linney, upon their ticket; with one exception the ticket as then formed was elected. While there were two tickets, there was but a difference of two names upon them, Messrs. Lilley, Nesbit and Sander being upon both tickets. The following gentlemen were elected: Zach. Lilley, F.C. Nesbit, J.H. Linney, W.D. Graham and Ferd. Sander. The Board met and organized with D.P. Shield, President; J.H. Linney, Clerk; F.C. Nesbit, Treasurer. We consider the Board an excellent one.
