Appleton City, MO 18 May 1933 MONEGAW SPRINGS: Mrs. Grace Motts called to see Miss Sallie Lou Dodds on Thursday Morning. Mr. and Mrs. Demos Evans called in the Harley Lough home Sunday evening. Mr. Russell, Mr. Lawrence, Earl Guffey and the Long boys have returned home, failing to find work. Mrs. Dunn and Mrs. Paul made a trip to the Benton Green cemetery Tuesday. It surely was a shock to the community when Mr. Morris dropped dead on our streets last Wednesday. Quite a few from here attended the funeral Friday at Mt. Zion. His family and relatives have our deepest sympathy in the loss of their loved one. Dick Lawrence left for Kansas City Tuesday. Mrs. Adams is entertaining company from Kansas City. Mrs. Paul and four children attended the funeral of Mr. Morris and spent the night with her father, A. J. Perrine, and wife. Juanita and Junior Jones spent Friday night with Audra and Junior Paul. Walter Haynes and wife, Opal Breeden and little son made a trip to Clinton Saturday, and Mrs. Breeden purchased 500 baby chicks. Mrs. Paul called on Mrs. McKinley Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mallicoat spent the weekend with relatives at Oyer. The Jackson girls, of Oyer, spent Saturday night with their uncle, Grover Mallicoat and family. Miss Eva Allen returned from Appleton City Saturday. Juanita Jones went out in the country for a week's stay with her sister and family. Walter and Junior Paul spent Sunday afternoon with Junior Carter. ROSCOE RUMBLINGS: Miss Lois Ruth Kirkland spent Sunday with Miss Opal Tillery in Red Rock vicinity. Mrs. J. T. Ward is quite poorly at this writing. Dinner guests in the Dee Dawson home Sunday were J. L. Dawson and family of Mt. Olive community, Espie Dawson and family, Frank Smith and family, and afternoon callers were Will Royse and family, Mrs. Jesse Cloud and children, and Kirby Hedrick. Mrs. Chas. Pierce is quite poorly at this time with heart trouble. Little Lola Marie Dawson spent the past week visiting in the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Carter, at Roscoe. Mrs. Lucille Cloud and Elsie Freeman visited at the Kimzey home Thursday afternoon. There will be a joint Childrens Day program of Benton Green, Roscoe and Mt. Olive Sunday Schools, held the first Sunday in June at Benton Green. Everyone is invited. There will be a basket dinner at the noon hour. Misses Sylvia nad Gladys Kirkland and Miss Elsie Freeman were on the streets of El Dorado Springs Saturday. The ball game at the Roberts home was well attended. A daughter of Mrs. Belle Lawthers spent Mother's Day with her. A. M. Pasley shipped his hogs last week. Mrs. Calvin Holloway is still in Independence, Mo., caring for her sister, Ruth, who has been very ill with measles. Her husband passed away about two weeks ago with measles and pneumonia. Rev. James Kirkland preached at Benton Green Sunday night after prayer meeting to quite a crowd. The jig saw puzzle party at the Wm. Cloud home Saturday night was well attended and an enjoyable time was had. JOHNSON CITY: Bill Dines came in from North Kansas City Sunday to spend a two weeks vacation. Those who spent Sunday in the Bill Fitch home were Charlie Fitch and family, Troy Carroll and wife, Mrs. Chas. Lillard and Clifford Wood. Mrs. Philip Casey and two children are feeling real bad at this time, probably taking the measles. John Dines, wife and two sons, Bill and Ted, spent Monday evening in the Bill Fitch home. Philip Casey shipped two lambs and his wool Saturday. Mrs. Leona Reeves and two sons spent Sunday in the James Ditty home. Mr. and Mrs. Magness Cockrell, Mrs. Alfred Cockrell and Mr. and Mrs. James Ditty attended the funeral of Len Morris at Mt. Zion Friday afternoon. Archie Goff and wife spent Sunday evening in the Bryan Parks home. Mrs. Charlie Lillard called on Mrs. Maggie Allinson Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Breeden and children spent Sunday with the Charlie James family. James Ditty and wife called in the John Dines home Wednesday morning to get sweet potato plants. Mrs. J. B. Ditty spent Saturday afternoon in the Simon Shoop home. Troy Carroll and wife from North Kansas City, spent the weekend with relatives, returning home Sunday evening. Mrs. Lula Powers accompanied them home. Mrs. John Dines was surprised Sunday when all her children except John Leslie, who lives in Arizona, came with well filled baskets and helped her celebrate her birthday. They had a real feast of good eats with fried chicken and angel food cake. Those who enjoyed it were Vern Dines and family, Ralph Schmitt and family, Virgil Compton and family, Mrs. Priscilla Schmitt, Bill and Ted Dines. Clifford Wood from Hume, Mo., spent Saturday night with Clarence and Wilbur Fitch. Mrs. John Reeves and two sons and Mrs. Jas. Ditty motored to Clinton Monday for baby chicks. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Dines spent Sunday with Mrs. Dines' parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Crowder. Their son, Arthur Crowder and wife came up from Pittsburg, Kansas and visited in the parental home. Mr. and Mrs. Cap Long and nephew, Buddy Long, returned from Springfield last week where they had been to see his mother. They reported her no better. A baby boy arrived in the home of Claude L. Coleman and wife, in Rockville, at 7 a.m., on Tuesday of this week. Dr. Smith of this city was chairman of the reception committee. Finch First Birthday Woman's Jefferson Democratic Club Dies Suddenly The building recently vacated by Prentice Walls, and owned by Wm. Laney, is being put in fine shape for the Sagaser store. The floor has been improved, the building has been newly papered, the necessary shelving has been put in place, the old front removed which will soon be replaced by a new one, which will give it the appearance of a new building. |
