Appleton City, MO 2 March 1933 ROCKVILLE: Mr. and Mrs. Michael O'brien and little son, of St. Joseph, spent Sunday with Mrs. O'brien's parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Hitt. Marble playing is a popular pastime with the small boys which is a sure sign that spring is not far away. Several report having young chickens. If the depression lasts much longer we fear the news will get so depressed we won't be able to find any at all. The Aid Society of the M. E. church met Wednesday at the parsonage with the following present: Mesdames Shultz, C. Mollencoph, L. Mollencoph, Whelan, Porter, Bridges, Kluck, Sells, Turpin, Stout, Clason, Fred Shultz and Misses Alma Garling and Mary Lane. PRAIRIE HOME: Mrs. Bert Dains and daughter visited over the week end with her parents. John Higgins returned home after a visit with relatives near Osceola. Alfred and Melvin Grass made a trip to Humansville Hospital Thursday to see about Alfred's condition. He is to go back in 30 days. Those who spent Tuesday in the home of Mrs. W. E. Moore were Mae Capps, Annie Hopkins, Hazel Mistler, Fannie Grass, Mae Haynes and Mrs. Allen. Mrs. W. E. Moore spent Monday with Mrs. Bernice Mistler. Those who spent Saturday eve in the Willis Higgins home, in honor of Miss Opal's birthday, were Burnice Mistler and family, Alfred Grass and family, Claud and Hubert Moore, Capps and family, Amp Hopkins and family, Bert Dains and Brit Dains. All enjoyed themselves and wished Miss Opal many happy birthdays. James Evans called at the James Taylor home one evening last week. Paul Gilmore called on Teddy Lawson Monday evening. Mrs. Harry Frey spent Monday night with Mr. and Mrs. Jake Frey. HUDSON COMMUNITY: Miss Cora Brownfield visited among her friends in this community last week while looking after property interests. Misses Pearl Louise Piepmeier, Mary Clark and Zelma Chapin are at home from Warrensburg for a week's vacation between terms. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Muchmore and Lois visited Thursday eve with the J. E. Piepmeier family. George Ellis spent Sunday afternoon with the Donnohue boys. Mrs. Jenkins, of Kansas City, is visiting her sister, Mrs. John Potter. The Art Clements sale drew a fair sized crowd Monday afternoon and everything sold reasonably well. They expect to move to Appleton City and the new owners of the A. B. Duncan farm, the Crook family from near Ballard, are moving this week. Mrs. A. W. Cordes spent Saturday night with Mr. and Mrs. G. Scholz and little daughter. Mr. and Mrs. John Conrad and family attended a dinner at the Wm. Conrad home Sunday, at which time all of Mr. Conrad's children gathered there after church services with well filled baskets and surprised him on his 79th birthday. Mrs. Bertha Eye and children and Dave Gerken spent Sunday at the Jame Eye home. Mr. and Mrs. Burl Browning and family and Mrs. L. H. Brown were Sunday visitors with the Lewis Pipes family. A family by the name of Smith has moved from Calhoun to the Wm. Dugan farm and a Miller family from near Adrian moved to the Brownfield place. ADVERTISEMENT: |
