Appleton City, MO Thursday, 26 January 1933 NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS: Frank Buford, who has been in Colorado for some time, has returned to the home of his father near Roscoe. Espie Dawson made a business trip to Osceola Saturday morning. Gus Souther and family ate dinner Saturday with his sister, Mrs. Will Duckering. Opal Tillery spent Sunday after Sunday School with Pansy Eason. Mrs. Jessie Cloud and daughter, Elnora, spent Sunday in the George Freeman home. Harry Pritchard and family, of Lowry City, spent Sunday at the John Pence home. Madeline Smith spent Sunday with Irene Starner. Frank Duckering is on the sick list. They had to have the doctor with him Friday night. Violet Eason visited at the Starner home Sunday after Sunday School. Mary Souther spent Sunday with the Kirkland girls. Dee Dawson and family called on Kirby Hedrick one night last week. Mrs. Mary Mitchell called on Mrs. Lon Woods Saturday eve. Mr. and Mrs. Brown Higgins, of Prairie Home Neighborhood, spent Sunday in the Earl Bourland home. PRAIRIE HOME: Mrs. W. E. Moore is still improving, but not able to be out much yet. Mr. and Mrs. Burnice Mistler and children spent Thursday with Bill Mistler and wife. W. E. Moore called in the Alfred Grass home Saturday eve. Lester Bourling visited Saturday night with his sister, Mrs. Brownie Higgins, and husband. Stella and Ethel Higgins visited Saturday night and Sunday with Lavern Dains. Those who met with Mrs. Burnice Mistler Wednesday to quilt a quilt the club had pieced for Mrs. Melvin Woody, were Ada Higgins, Irene Dains, Fannie Grass, Opal and Stella Higgins, Hazel Mistler and Iola Dains. They completed the quilt. Mr. Woody lost his house and contents by fire a week or so ago. Bob Dains spent Saturday night with Junior Grass. We understand Charley Bowden has rented the Page place for his brother Jim. Alva Higgins and Albert Dains called on Melvin Grass Thursday night. Dude Dains and Joe Jones spent Saturday night and Sunday in the Lonnie Capps home. Miss Wanda Moore returned to Appleton City Tuesday. Burnice Mistler and family visited Sunday in the Lonnie Capps home. ROCKVILLE: A heavy rain, accompanied by quite a wind, fell Saturday night but at this time, Monday, fine warm sunshine is prevailing, and everything points to an early Spring. Grass is green and weeds and flowers have been up for some time. MONEGAW SPRINGS: Mrs. John Ross and son, Teddy, of Chalk Level, spent Tuesday with Mrs. Paul and family. Mrs. Jim Frasure spent last Thursday with Aunt Mary Rosbraugh. Mrs. Bean called on Mrs. Carter Wednesday. Mrs. Shout helped Mrs. Paul quilt Thursday afternoon as the Sunshine Club postponed their meeting with Mrs. Paul Wednesday on account of so much sickness in town. Lawrence Capps called on Chester Keeton Saturday. Mr. McGinley of El Dorado, is visiting his aunt, Mrs. Gillim. Lawrence Paul spent the weekend with friends at Oyer. Rometa Malicoat and Marthabelle Paul visited Sunday with Eva Allen. We had a one inch rain last Wednesday and an inch and a half rain Saturday, so there is plenty of moisture in the ground at present. Mr. Trammel returned to his home at Richards, MO., last week. We guess the flu is about over in this community, as no new cases are reported. Mr. Kelly has his new garden seed on hand and his onion sets ordered, so that sounds like spring might not be far away. |
