Appleton City, MO 27 November 1913 Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Clark and Miss Mary Clark were passengers to Clinton Monday. Mrs. A. Frost and daughter, Mrs. C.A. Davis, and Miss Fannie Larison were Nevada visitors Monday. Mrs. S. McDaniell of Urich arrived Friday evening for a visit with her sister, Mrs. E. L. Pulliam. V.L. Johnson and family of Butler arrived in this city Saturday for a visit with Mrs. Johnson's parents, John Batchelor and wife. Fred Brown was over from Osceola the first of the week for a visit with his father, Capt. T.O. Brown. He paid the Journal a visit Tuesday and enrolled as a new reader. Miss Ethel Blakely visited in this city from Friday evening until Monday morning at the home of her teacher, Miss Letia Balisle. Johnson City News: Mr. and Mrs. J.N. Caton visited Sunday with Erve Mount and family. Lud Kincheloe delivered hogs in Appleton City Monday. Scott M. Stout of Aurora, Mo., was greeting friends in Johnson City the first of the week. Miss Gertie Williamson spent Saturday night and Sunday with Miss Elnora Shoop. Mr. and Mrs. James Allison visited Sunday night with J.N. Caton and wife. A candy breaking was enjoyed by a number of young people at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. West Saturday night. Mrs. J.B. and Mrs. James Ditty and little daughter spent the latter part of the week with relatives in Schell City. Millard Sumpter visited last week with Mr. and Mrs. Will Owens. Reynard Notes: Wm. Drake will soon have his new barn completed. James Wilson began plastering his house Monday. Frank Goff will do the work. Uncle Lucian Green was out driving Sunday and spent a short time at our house. Wm. Walker finished shredding corn fodder last week and moved his machine down south. Mrs. James Kirk died at her home Thursday. She was buried at the Appleton City Cemetery. Miss Gladys Holt spent Sunday with Miss Gertie Elsberry. Prairie Home: Mr. and Mrs. John Ridgway and Mrs. Curt Allison of South Dakota visited a couple of days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Ridgway. Mr. and Mrs. Nichols spent the day Sunday with L.A. Morris and family. Mr. Dan Waters and family visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Moore. Mrs. Tobe Morris called on Mrs. Winchester last Thursday. Mr. Arthur Allison is seen going over towards Washington school quite often. Can you account for his going Lorena? Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Rosbrough spent one day last week with Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Nunn. Miss Perna McKinley spent Friday night with Russie Morris. Mrs. Puffenbarger was a visitor at Mr. R.L. Moore's Sunday. On last Saturday night a surprise party and pie and pound supper
was given at Mr. Henry Allinson's in honor of his son Clinton's 15th
Birthday. Upper Monegaw: Joe Kinyon and his brother, Sephus, went to El Dorado Friday to visit their sister, Mrs. Geo. Seward. Bro. Shirley will preach at the Monegaw School Thanksgiving, in the morning and the afternoon. All are invited to come and bring their dinner and stay all day. Jno. Thompson came home from Sedalia Monday for a visit with his parents. Mrs. E.L. Brock visited at Jas. Robbins' Wednesday. Quite a number of young folks spent Sunday at Monegaw. Bro. Phipps of Monegaw Springs preached at the school house Saturday night, Sunday morning and evening. Large crowds were in attendance, and Bro. Phipps certainly delivered the message, which we hope sank deep into the hearts of many people. Geo. Pharis of Spruce was a business visitor in this city Monday and made The Journal a visit and renewed the subscription of his daughter, Mrs. W.H. Boggan, of Antone, Wash. Spruce News: Oak Grove and Cumpton schools engaged in a ciphering contest last Friday night, resulting in a victory for Oak Grove. We learn that Harry Hill, who is suffering from an attack of typhoid fever at his home in El Dorado Springs, is improving at present. This is good news to Harry's many friends here, all of whom hope for his full recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. B. Ellis of Columbia, and Mrs. Eliza Walters of Sullivan, Indiana, were called here last week to be in attendance at the bedside of their mother, Grandma Childs, who is dangerously ill at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G.W. Quick. Oden Blew and family of Montrose, Frank Erhart and mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Erhart were Sunday visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Stephenson. Harry Randall has a saw-mill on his place, preparing to clear up some timber land. Thomas Bros. of Pleasant Gap are doing the sawing. Mr. and Mrs. H. Gutridge and baby daughter spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Dickinson. The box supper at Oak Grove last week was a decided success. The program was excellent. Miss Pharis is teaching a splendid school. There will be a pie supper at the Willow Tree schoolhouse Wednesday night, the 26th. Everybody invited to attend. |
