Appleton City, MO 13 November 1913 Ohio News: The Hallowe'en Party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kast was well attended and all had a fine time. Virgil Dunning and family spent Friday of last week with Herb Dunning and wife near Deepwater. Phillip Warner took a load to his new home near Amoret last week, returning Sunday night. The 3rd district Convention of the Christian Churches of St. Clair County held their annual meeting at Ohio, October 22 and 23. It was well attended despite the disagreeable weather and bad roads. Elder J.H. Jones of Springfield, Sec. of 3rd District was present. He not only gave some fine sermons and lectures on the work being done in the district, but had his Steroptical Views showing the work done in Southeast Mo. and many other views of interest. Sister Lawrence, State Secretary of the C.W.B.M., was present and gave some very interesting talks on the work done by the ladies of the churches. Bros. Carpenter of Appleton City, Dunkelberger of Calhoun, Koenig, of Lowry City, and Rich of Roscoe, were present and did their parts making the convention a success. Several delegates from from other churches and representatives from three that could not send delegates were in attendance. On Thursday a basket dinner was served by the ladies, to which all did ample justice. All who attended felt that the convention was a spiritual success. Prairie Home: W.E. Moore and mother, Mrs. Sagaser visited relatives in Harwood Saturday and Sunday. A nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Winchester from Oklahoma came for a few days visit recently. Miss Gladys Waters spent Saturday night and Sunday with her aunt, Mrs. W.E. Moore. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Ridgway and children spent Sunday with the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Allinson. Jesse Johnson and wife spent last Saturday at John Page's. Misses Madge, Rosie and Ruth Sires visited Saturday night and Sunday with their sister Alma and friend Russie Morris. We understand that Jesse Page, who has for some time been in Colorado, is on his way to his "'good old Old Missouri home"'. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Duncan, Everett Nunn and family and Mr. and Mrs. Willie Rosbrough Sundayed with John Nunn and family. Halowe'en Party Advertisement: Mt. Zion News: Several from this vicinity delivered hogs in Rockville Monday. Holbert Heath and Clarence Hough made a business trip to Appleton City Saturday. Mrs. Garland Waters visited last Wednesday with A.P. Hill. Mrs. John Barnett spent Saturday night at Walter Lyons. James Allison was in Schell City the past week taking treatment from the doctor. Mr. and Mrs. Willie Rosbrough were in Appleton City Wednesday having dental work done. Mrs. John Barnett and Mrs. Clarence Hough were visitors at Holbert Heath's Tuesday. Mrs. Ida Barnett visited a few days last week with her niece, Mrs. Ed. Hall, near Green Valley. Mrs. James Allison entertained Mrs. Bud Hill one day last week. Moody Carroll and family visited at Clarence Carroll's in Johnson City Sunday. John Rosebrough and wife were in Appleton City one day last week. John Barnett and Holbert Heath will hold a public sale Thursday, November 13th. Mr. Barnett and wife, Holbert Heath and family and Clarence Hough and family will leave in a few months for Montana. |
