Appleton City, MO 12 October 1916 PLEASANT RIDGE: P. O. Nafus is painting his barn. Elmer Sutton helped Will Sutton at his place Monday. Mrs. E. Beshore and Grace Fennewald were shopping in Pleasant Gap Monday. Preaching at Pleasant Ridge Sunday night was well attended. Misses Lelah and Jerusha Rains spent Sunday with Miss Ruby Cook. Miss Katherine Pharis visited Saturday and Sunday with home folks. Mrs. Herrman Firr, of Lincoln, Neb., is visiting with her mother, Mrs. Carroll. Miss Pauline Raybourn spent Wednesday night with Miss Jerusha Rains. Mrs. Lee Reese spent Thursday with Mrs. R. H. Barnes. George McClain spent Thursday night with Logan Rains. Miss Anna Prier is on the sick list. Misses Lelah Rains and Ruby Cook and George McClain and Logan Rains motored to Butler Saturday evening. Mrs. Robert Rains and daughter, Lucille, and Mrs. Dickey visited Monday with Mrs. Cook. GREEN VALLEY: Mr. and Mrs. Nick Willems and little son, Chester, and Mrs. Seth Burton motored to Monegaw Springs Saturday and visited Mrs. Burton's father, Mr. Pickell, returning home Sunday. Mr. Pickell accompanied them home for a few days visit. Oscar and Lemma Culbertson are harvesting their cane on Mrs. Norman's place. OAK GROVE: Mrs. Clara Batchelor spent last week visiting relatives in Kansas City. Florence Gragg called on her sister, Mrs. Chloe Hunter, Saturday. Mrs. Jim Lawson has been entertaining a niece from Urich. Geo. and Charlie Wigger and families spent Sunday evening at the Chas. Rector home. Mrs. Everett Harvey visited Oak Grove school Friday evening. Miss Nena Batchelor called on Rena Varnes Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Lem Sargent and son Floyd spent Sunday at Geo. Sargent's. Charlie Wigger was in Kansas City Tuesday. Clarence Bowman called on Elmer Keen Sunday. Will Wigger and family spent Sunday in Appleton City. Mrs. Henry Cook called on Mrs. Henry Batchelor, last Monday. Will Gragg is entertaining a sister from Kansas. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dawson of Appleton City spent Saturday night with her mother, Mrs. Jake Frey. Geo. and Lem Sargent purchased cattle of Robert Sutherland Monday. PRAIRIE HOME: Mr. and Mrs. Magness Cockrell of Johnson City and Mrs. Perrine were Sunday visitors at the L. A. Morris home. Miss Muriel Smith, who has been in a critical condition from typhoid fever for the past eight weeks is now much better, and we are certainly glad to state that Dr. Smith says she is improving so nicely it will be unnecessary for him to make any more calls. John Page and little grandson, Ralph Johnson, who has been visiting "'grandpa"' Page, called at the Jesse Johnson home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Keeton and Miss Russie Morris and Loyd McKinley were Sunday visitors with James Keeton and family. |
