Appleton City, MO 25 August 1913 Dr. G.C. Reeder was a business visitor at Nevada last Thursday. Mrs. Fred Luehsinger returned Thursday evening from a few days visit with relatives in Clinton. Miss Effie Pierce returned to Nevada Friday after a few days visit with relatives and friends in this city. A new porch was put up in front of the Pratt store the latter part of last week to replace the one that has done service for several years. Misses Hazel Magee and Laura Thompson returned Friday evening from a several day's stay in Clinton during which time they attended the big camp meeting. Mr. and Mrs. G.H. Spery, of Carroll County, arrived in this city Friday evening for a visit with H.M. Gwin and family east of town. They visited other relatives at Bolivar prior to coming here. Mrs. Ed Wells last week sold the place in the north part of town, which she recently purchased from J.S. House. Mr. W.F. Maxwell purchased the place from Mrs. Wells and expects to move there to make his home. An unknown man about 35 years of age was run over and killed by a freight train on the Clinton Line tracks at the Henry County metropolis last Wednesday evening. A coroner's inquest gave a verdict that he met an accidental death by being run over by a railroad train. Miss Ida Jackson of near Rockville took the train here Wednesday for Nevada, where she will attend the teacher's association, after which she will visit at Metz. From that place she goes to Garland, Kans., where she teaches this coming school year. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Housley, of Osceola, visited the past week with Mrs. Houseley's parents, Dr. and Mrs. Sharpless, and spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hook at Appleton City. Miss Lola Higbee of Schell City visited the editor and Mrs. Forest Turner the past week, and while here, Miss Lola and Miss Roslyn Turner visited their cousin Mrs. Florine Walker in Appleton City. Mrs. Miligan and daughter Miss Flo, of Schell City, were in town Monday looking for a boarding place for Miss Flo, she having been employed to teach in the Rockville schools the coming year. Mrs. Dennie Ritchie of Jackson, Miss., is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Kleppinger. Mrs. Ritchie will be joined this week by her husband, who is transacting business in St. Louis, after which they will return to their home. Mr. and Mrs. Milo Christ of Claremore, Okla., who have spent some time visiting friends near Knob Noster and Sedalia, are now at the home of Mrs. Chryst's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Skillman. They expect to leave for their home this week. Mrs. John Kleppinger received a visit the past week from her brother, A. Walley, wife and daughter Miss Minnie of Montrose, as they were returning from a trip to Arkansas. Mrs. Kleppinger's father, Joseph Walley, who had spent the summer with her, accompanied them back to Montrose. The new bank building is being rapidly rushed to completion and will soon be ready for occupancy. The new building is of stone and in every particular will be fitted up for modern banking methods. The companies new safe has arrived and is said to be up to date in every respect. Friday evening six automobiles trimmed with flags and bunting came over from Schell City to advertise the picnic and Chautauqua to be held at that place this week. The company represented citizens of Schell City and members of the Chautauqua. They brought their own Band and lined up Main Street for a considerable time where they entertained our town with some choice music. Mr. and Mrs. Angus Huntsman, Mrs. Herman Pinnow, Ola and Otto West, were among the number from here who attended the County Fair at Butler last week. They report the display very good considering the drought. Mrs. Len Ingles and son, Earl, and niece Miss Rose Hays of Taberville, came up Saturday and Earl and Miss Rose took the train for Kansas City where they will visit relatives. Mr. Ingles will also take medical treatment. Mt. Zion News: Mrs. Holbart Heath visited with home folks Thursday. Mrs. Ida Barnett and Miss Gladys Carroll spent Tuesday with Mrs. Garland Waters. Miss Sabra Rosbrough was in Osceola last week attending the association. Mrs. Geo. Allinson visited with her daughter, Mrs. Moody Carroll Friday night. Mrs. Will Ridgway and daughters Sylvia and Dorothy were visitors at George Allinson's Monday. Mrs. John Barnett, Mrs. Harry Moore and Mrs. Clarence Hough spent Tuesday with Mrs. Holbert Heath. Mrs. Millie Heath and daughter, Miss Beatrice and son, Paul, made a business trip to Appleton City Saturday. Several from this neighborhood were trading in Rockville Wednesday. Mrs. John Rosbrough spent a few days the last of the week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Page near Monegaw Springs. Miss Alma Allinson visited Sunday with her cousin, Miss Edna Allinson. Jas. Ginter's sale was well attended, and considering the dry weather stuff sold well. Mr. Willis and wife, and Chas. Kinder and family went to Rich Hill Monday. Miss Ruth Mock spent Sunday with Miss Eunice Culver. Little Boyd Kinder received a very severe cut on his knee, by falling on a corn cutter. Geo. Bellomy has rented a farm near Johnson City for the coming year. Mrs. Jno. Gilbreath is still very sick. Miss Nora Davis has gone to Texas to visit relatives. Frank Bearse will farm near Butler next year, having leased a farm there. Chas. Kinder and family called on the family of Chas. Culver Sunday afternoon. |
