F.M. Patrick was at Nevada on business Friday between trains.

Miss Myra Covey returned last week from a few days visit with relatives in Montrose.

Dr. F.J. Pribil autoed to St. Joe last week where he will visit his sister and other relatives for several days.

Mrs. Kilpatrick, wife of the new Baptist minister at this place, went to Kansas City Friday for a visit with her mother.

Mrs. H.M. Wright went to Sedalia Saturday, where she will visit her son. She will visit other points before returning home.

Mrsd. Wm. Wilson returned to her home in Montrose Friday evening after a few days visit with Mrs. Jas. Wilson and family of this city.

Ash Grove celebrated the 4th in an expensive manner; a $60,000 fire loss resulting from the use of fire works. Five business houses were burned.

Mrs. Mabel C. Lewellen of Ohio Post Office is one among several new names added to our subscription list during the past week. Thanks.

Have your distant friends plan a visit to Appleton City the last week of August to attend the annual picnic. Our Chautauqua will be going on at the same time.

Mrs. Lou Walls went to Schell City Thursday to attend the funeral of Mrs. Louisa Landon, which was held at that place. Mrs. Walls and Mrs. Landon have been close friends since girlhood days.

A double attraction, Street Fair and Chautauqua should bring to this city the largest crowd in the history of the town. They are both scheduled for the last week in August. Plan now to come, and bring all your friends and have a good time.

The report of the Mo. Agricultural Experiment station says that the amount of cream sold by Missouri farmers during the past three weeks has diminished about one-third. This decrease is due to the severe drought that has dried up the pastures.

B.M. Wix of Pleasant Gap was a business visitor in this city the latter part of lat week. While in town he called at The Journal office and ordered a supply of stationary for the use at his general merchandise store which he purchased a few weeks ago.

L.V. Shaver and family came in Friday afternoon from Nevada for a few days visit with the former's brother, F.P. Shaver and family.

Mrs. S.H. Byrd returned Thursday evening from Marshalltown, Iowa, having accompanied her mother home after a visit here of several weeks.

C.L. Graham and wife of Urich were in this city last week visiting Mrs. Graham's father, John Saddler and family. They made the trip in their auto.

Mrs. S.B. Hunter returned to her home near Nevada last week after a several days visit with the family of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Tousley, near this city.

Lost - Black and yellow tan hound dog; has three white feet. Was in Appleton City when last seen. Reward will be given for return of the dog. Notify Geo. C. Gielep, Montrose, Mo., or the Appleton City Journal.

Mrs. Earl McDowell returned Friday afternoon from Rockville where she visited her sister Mrs. E.M. Bozard and family for several days while her husband was visiting in Illinois. Mr. McDowell returned Friday evening from his trip to Illinois.

Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Dozier and children, who have been visiting the family of G.E. Peabody near Ohio for the past two weeks left for their home in Dallas, Texas last Wednesday evening. Mrs. Dozier is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peabody.

Martin Grider was over at Deepwater last week taking care of several cars of wheat, which he purchased in that locality and shipped from that point. He made the trip by auto Thursday and was accompanied by his family, together with his mother and Mrs. D.D. Scroggs.

Ice was a pretty scarce article in this city several days the past week. Robt. Irvine, the iceman, did his best however, and had shipments coming in by express from Nevada about twice a day. It was impossible to get ice in the car lots so it became necessary to get it in smaller quantities by express.
