Appleton City, MO 12 June 1913 Monegaw Hill Notes: Prof. R.V. Allinson spent Sunday with Mr. Paul Heath. Mr. and Mrs. James Allinson, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Ridgeway and family and Grandma Allinson visited Sunday with J.D. Underwood and family. Holbert Heath and family, Mrs. Heath and daughter, and Mrs. James Allinson and daughter spent Sunday with John Barnett and family. Elm Grove: Miss Geulah Buskirk is visiting friends in Schell City this week. Miss Grace Beach spent Tuesday afternoon with Miss Alma Johndrow. A number of the young people of this neighborhood attended the ice cream supper at Jim Neal's Saturday night. Mrs. G. Buskirk visited Saturday afternoon with Mrs. Jim Beach. Earl Tillery and Roy Johndrow made a business trip to Rockville Saturday. The Golden Hour Sunday school class, with Mrs. Henville as teacher, met at the church Saturday afternoon for the purpose of organizing. The school board met last week and employed Miss Della Pierce as teacher for the ensuing year. Mrs. Johnson was trading in Rockville Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Mary Norman's daughter and sons are visiting with her at present. Mrs. Barnett and daughter, Miss Ada, were shopping in Rockville Thursday. Hazel Boyers spent Wednesday afternoon with Gladys Layher. Reynard Rumblings: Geo. Davidson of Appleton City, is doing some papering and painting here this week. Frank Deihl is having some land cleared off and put in cultivation on the farm he recently bought. Mamie Cluver will teach the Double Branch school the coming winter. She will start for Warrensburg Tuesday, where she will attend the summer school. Gates Merrifield will soon have his new barn completed, which is 10x60 feet, built of bur oak, cut on his farm. Lucien Green had a force of hands putting up his large crop of clover Tuesday. C.C. Peeler bought himself a new binder with which to harvest his sixty acres of wheat. Mrs. Chas. Kinder went to Rich Hill Friday, returning Sunday. Ed McCoy made a trip to Kansas City last week to spend a few days with his mother. Hudson Township Board is having some real road grading done. Wm. Walker is pulling the grader with his thrashing engine. LeLoLie and Charles McConnell of Montrose are visiting relatives in this neighborhood. Johnson City Jottings: Smith Keifer and son, Johnnie, came up from his ranch on Sac River Monday to look after business matters in this section and on Tuesday left for Oklahoma. W.E. Magruder and son Raymond came up in their auto from Webb City last week to visit relatives and look after business matters. Little Helen Walls is now suffering from an attack of typhoid fever. Mrs. Wesley Schmitt from the Keifer ranch near Osceola, visited at the home of her husband's parents, Mr. and Mrs, Wm. Schmitt, three miles north of Johnson City Saturday and Sunday. Miss Ora Parks spent Saturday and Sunday with her friend Miss Helen Lillard. J.N. Lasater, of Pittsburg, Kansas, came up Sunday to consult Dr. Smith about his condition. Mr. Lasater is suffering from Tuberculosis of the larynx. Miss Lawton and little niece of Saline County, are visiting her sister, Mrs. Kincheloe this week. East Appleton News: Mrs. Wm. Sell visited with Mrs. Wm. Johnson Sunday evening. Mr. Wesley Smith and children from near Osceola, spent Saturday and Sunday with Wm. Smitt and family. Mrs. George Downer and little son Eldo called on Mrs. Sell Wednesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Warner are rejoicing over the arrival of a sweet little baby girl. Florence Goller visited with Estelle Bishop Tuesday. Mrs. John Goller and daughter Lula were shopping in Appleton Friday. Miss Birdis Warner returned home one day last week. She has been teaching in the high school, in Humboldt, Kansas. We understand that she has accepted the same position for next year. |
