Announcements:
Primary Election Tuesday, August 4

For State Senator - We are authorized to announce John Baldwin of Bates County as a candidate for State Senator, subject to the will of the Democratic voters at the August primary.

For Recorder of Deeds - We are authorized to announce J.B. Gathright of Speedwell Township as a candidate for Recorder of Deeds, subject to the will of the Democratic voters at the August primary.

We are authorized to announce C.H. Lucas of Osceola as a candidate for Recorder of Deeds, subject to the will of the Democratic voters at the August primary.

For County Clerk - We are authorized to announce Vigil Higgins of Taber Township as a candidate for County Clerk, subject to the will of the Democratic voters at the August primary.

Bear Creek:
Only a little over a month more of school.

A number of our young folks were over at the Star schoolhouse on last Friday night. The occasion being a pie supper.

Nearly everyone is sowing oats, a good many acres will be planted.

Mrs. E.L. Gover has been suffering with a severe case of La Grippe.

Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Place left Monday for Gerster where they expect to locate.

Mrs. Jos. Rippetoe and son, Claudy visited relatives at Iconium on Saturday and Sunday.

Ladies' Aid will meet at the church on Thursday and bring dinner. The men will burn the brush on church lot.

Miss Maggie Garrison came from Osceola on Friday to attend the pie supper at the Star school and spend Saturday and Sunday with her parents.

We are glad to note so much interest in Sunday school and that so many of the grown-up people are coming. Prayer meeting is well attended and the Wednesday evening talks given by Rev. Brown are helpful and interesting. The Epworth League also has evidently received a renewed interest. Miss Maggie Garrison was leader and Miss Nichols read a poem on the subject for the evening. Short talks were given by Mrs. DeLee and Mr. Pennington. Mr. James Garrison will be leader next week.

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Gover spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Leman Gover.

Little Doris Garrison has been sick for several days but is some better at this writing.

Mr. John Roberts and Miss Nellie Wisner were married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wisner on Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. The bride wore a pretty dress of blue. The wedding was performed by Rev. J.A. Brown. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Clark Wisner, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Wisner, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Polling, Mr. Ira Amy and Lawrence DeLee.

Ohio News:
Mrs. A.A. Johnson and mother, Mrs. Worman, went to Clinton Friday to visit with Mrs. Worman's son and family. Mrs. Johnson returned Saturday, leaving her mother for a longer visit.

Miss Olive Biles left Saturday for El Dorado Springs to visit with her sisters, Mrs. Bottoms and Mrs. Aurmor.

George Thurman was attending to business in Lowry City Wednesday.

Mrs. Barret Biles and children are visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. Pointer who reside west of Appleton City.

Jas. Wishard spent Sunday at home but returned to Osceola as a Juryman Monday morning.

Mr. and Mrs. Ashley Park spent Saturday night at the home of Ashley's parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. Park.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin Dorward spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. O.K. Wishard.

Mr. and Mrs. S. Brannon moved from Appleton City Saturday to this neighborhood. Mr. Brannon will have the blacksmith shop at this place.

Mr. and Mrs. A.A. Johnson and family and Mr. and Mrs. Ashley Park spent the Sabbath at the Noah Johnson home.

Miss Ruth Pittman spent Sunday with Miss Opal Johnson.

Mr. and Mrs. M. Cooper from Lowry City spent Sunday with Mr. Cooper's sister Mrs. Jake Johnson.

Miss Lena Murphy came out from Appleton City Saturday for a visit with home folks.

Miss Bulah Murphy spent Thursday night with Mrs. E.O. Collins.

Mr. and Mrs. S. Caton spent the Sabbath with Mr. and Mrs. J.N. Caton.

The farmers are very busy sowing oats the last few days.

Mr. and Mrs. Glen Walker were visiting relatives in Appleton City part of last week.

Mrs. John Robinson has been at the home of her son, Link, helping care for his wife who has had pneumonia.

Mr. Sherman Francis and wife from Clinton are visiting at the home of his brother, Taylor Francis, this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Clayton and son Murl from near Lowry City spent Sunday at the Wm Clayton home.

Johnson City News:
Dr. Divine is on the sick list at this writing.

Mr. and Mrs. Lud Kineholme made a business trip to Appleton City Friday.

Mrs. Roy Shoop and children are visiting with Simon Shoop this week.

Jack Zink and family and Jas. Ditty and family spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Zink, it being his eighty-fifth birthday.

Mr. and Mrs. Shell Caton visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. J.N. Caton.

Miss Vinnie Gregg visited last Wednesday with Mrs. Cap Long.

Mrs. Louis Bock and Mrs. Fred Bock spent last Tuesday with Mrs. Simon Shoop.

Mrs. Watt Duffy and son are visiting at the home of her mother this week.

Mrs. James Ditty and Mrs. Scott Stout visited Monday evening with Mrs. Simon Shoop.

Mrs. Earl Casperson visited Friday at the home of her mother, Mrs. Lula Lutty.

Sunday, being Mr. A.F. Zink's 85th birthday, he was given a pleasant surprise, by the members of his family and a few of his friends.

Mrs. Dee Donnohue spent Friday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Cook.

Mrs. Louis Watel who has been seriously ill with bronchial pneumonia is some better at this writing.

Mr. and Mrs. Lester McConnell visited Al Lough's Sunday.

Prairie Home:
We have been having some royal weather the past several days.

Mrs. Selsor Perrine and children are visiting this week with her mother Mrs. Mead.

Miss Almee Sires was in Osceola Saturday and Sunday.

Misses Russie Morris and Armitta Thompson and Messrs. Shirley, Willie Moore and Willie Marshall spent Saturday and Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. James Puffenbarger and family.

Mrs. Larue Reading of Lowry spent a few days last week with Mrs. James Morris.

The people both young and old, hearing of Mr. Malicot's leaving us soon, called in to see them and make them a farewell visit last Friday night. A large crowd was present and all enjoyed themselves very much. Mr. Malicot's are thinking of going to a farm near Kansas City.

J.H. Raybourn Improving:
The many friends of Mr. Raybourn in Butler and vicinity were alarmed two weeks ago to hear that he was suffering from an attack of erysipelas in the face and the case was so serious that his physician, Dr. J.H. Fletcher, of Spruce, accompanied him to Kansas City to consult a specialist and it was said before going that it might be necessary to remove one of his eyes to save his life. The Doctors there however said that that would not be necessary, for Dr. Fletcher had done all that could be done and had stopped the disease and advised that Mr. Raybourn return to his home and continue under Dr. F.'s treatment, which he did and is gaining daily since, all of which will be good news to Mr. Raybourn's many friends all over Bates county. - Butler Record

Miss Walker Injured:
Notice was sent to this office of Miss Myrtle Walker suffering a painful accident by having her left arm fractured last Tuesday. She was working a young colt and the animal run off with her causing the accident. The report stated that she was getting along as well as could be expected.

Mrs. Miller Very Ill:
Elsewhere in this paper will be noted the birth of a son to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Miller of this city last week. Since that item was set up and printed on another page, we learn that Mrs. Miller's condition has been very critical, and at the time of going to press fears are entertained that her recovery is doubtful.

Zoo Park Society:
A social event of unusual proportions was held at the Presbyterian Church Tuesday evening at which time about seventy-five guests enjoyed the pleasures of "'Zoo Garden"' and in connection therewith partook of a dainty luncheon, all of which was held in the basement of the church. The event was one of the monthly social features given by the ladies of the church. The hostess' on this occasion were: Mrs. Yoder, Mrs. Teel, Mrs. Alexander, Mrs. Scroggs and Miss Mary Yoder, and it was the expression of all that they had successfully planned and carried out a very novel evening's entertainment.

Taberville Items:
March 16, 1914-Farmers are busy sowing oats this week.

Will Cotrell and Brown Hill made a business trip to Osceola last week.

W.A. Lyons had two carloads of fine cattle on the Kansas City market last week.

Mrs. Stella Bishop and her mother visited with Mrs. Duncan Sunday afternoon.

Misses Katheryn Nunn and Jessie Parks were Appleton City visitors Saturday.

Grandfather Long, who has been very sick for some time, we are glad to report is convalescent.

Mr. and Mrs. Hall spent Thursday with Mrs. Hall's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wood of Appleton City.

Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Carroll came in Monday and brought Mrs. Carroll's brothers, Grover Huff and Jas. Huff and wife, who took the train for Ismay, Mont. They will be accompanied by their brother-in-law, H. Heath and family, who are moving to the same place. The parties shipped a car of goods jointly.

Oats sowing and garden making are going on.

Robinson and Bailey shipped a car of hogs to Kansas City Monday.

Oliver Dye shipped a car of goods to Colorado Monday, where he is moving.

Mrs. M.E. Laughlin entertained the Embroidery Club Wednesday at the home of her grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Wood. Members present: Mesdames C.H. Cook, Evans, Duley, Heyle, Kleppinger, Bothwell, Sunderwirth, Meredith, Laughlin, Kamm Powers, Robinson, Johnson. Misses Emma Wood, Rill Anderson.
Visitors: Mesdames Clark, H. and R. Snively. While the younger ladies were engaged in fancy work Mrs. Wood, the grandmother, pieced on her sixty-first patchwork quilt. Refreshments were served of pormentor Sandwiches, wafers, nut cakes and coffee.

Mrs. Russel Williams from near Appleton City came down Friday to visit with her brother, E.T. Welchert and family. Mr. Williams came down Sunday and accompanied her home that evening.

Died on a Train
Mrs. Marie Schupp, wife of D.E. Schupp of Pleasant Green, died on the M.K. & T. train while en route to Nevada Friday evening. The deceased's death occurred while the train was running between Schell City and Nevada and was due to a nervous trouble. Mrs. Schupp had been under treatment in a hospital at St. Louis and was being brought to Nevada for treatment at the Vernon Sanitarium. The remains was shipped to Pleasant Green on the morning train. - Nevada Mail

Jim Benefield is hauling logs to the Bearce sawmill to have lumber for a new house.

Marion Smith had a sick horse last week.

Roy Clapp and family of Minneapolis, Minnesota, spent a few days with his cousins, Will Sutton and D.B. Sweezy.

A number of farmers sowed their oats Saturday.

Once more the frogs have begun their music. According to an old saying, we will have two more cold spells.

Burl and George Kinder, with Mrs. Leute Wix, went to Rich Hill Saturday.

Marion Smith has his potatoes planted.

Roy Browning is enjoying these fine days riding his new motorcycle.

August Fisher and Bob Nafus put rods on the barns of Harry Brown and Len Davis.

Edgar Melton moved on to the old Graves farm last Tuesday.

James Wilson lost a valuable cow Saturday.

Lucian Green is not very well at this time. He in some way fractured one of his ribs which is giving him some trouble.

Lute Wix and family spent Sunday at the home of Chas. Kinder.
