Appleton City, MO 15 June 1909 Local Items. Personal Mention and Local News Items Gathered by Our Reporters. Dr. Emma Morehouse went to Rockville on the noon train where she was called in a professional capacity. Miss Nichols an assistant at Miss Pierce’s dressmaking shop returned Monday noon from a visit with friends at Montrose. Miss Evelyn Streiff arrived Saturday noon for a visit in our city with her grandmother, Mrs. Lissie Mason and other relatives. Miss Irene Houston who has been a guest of Miss Gertrude Carter for several weeks, departed for her home at Malta Bend, after a delightful visit. Miss Lizzie Hill and brother, Ben, left on the noon train Saturday for Rockville from which point they will proceed to the vicinity of Monegaw Springs for a two week’s visit at the home of their uncle, Mr. B. Hill. Mrs. J.R. Pickerill and niece, Miss Allie McNemas departed this morning for an extended trip through the west, which will include a visit to Seattle, Yellow Stone Park, and various points in California. Mrs. D.C. Cross and daughter, Miss Fannie, of Uvalde, Texas, arrived Monday morning for a visit in our city at the home of Mr. M.B. Strickland, during which time they will look after their property interests. A jolly fishing party composed of Messrs. W.N. Watkins, E.A. Smith, V.L. Lavery, Harry brown, Ben Lampkin, and Misses Edith Burns, Bettie Burns, Leara Hook, Clara Burns, Julia Gerard and Mrs. W.N. Watkins departed for the lake this morning. Dr. C.E. Cline on Saturday broke ground for his new modern residence to be erected adjoining Mrs. R.R. Davis on the west. The building is to be 32x32 feet, two stories high with a basement, and is to be heated with a furnace. The residence when completed will be a model of neatness and convenience. W.C. Gater has the contract. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Chapin of Appleton City partook of the hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Powell Sunday. --- Mrs. Ritchey of Appleton City accompanied by her little friend Julia Bowman of Appleton City, came down the first of the week after a few days visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kleppinger. – Rockville Booster. Misses Lucy Adams, Ruth Peak, Edith Walker, Clara Maxwell, as delegates from the Epworth League, and Eldo Grob and Helen Finley as delegates from the Junior of the M.E. Church, are in attendance at the League convention in session at Sedalia this week. Dr. J.M. Carter and Miss Effie Pierce are also in attendance at this meeting. Mr. J.E. Grosshart, our photographer, departed on the early train Tuesday for Columbia where he will attend a meeting of the State Photographer’s Association. Mr. Grosshart believes in taking advantage of such opportunities as they broaden a man in his chosen line of work. Business Change. Mr. H.L. Alton Becomes Proprietor of Bakery. Mr. Henry L. Alton, a practical bakery man with many years of experience, on Monday purchased the City Bakery from Mr. O.M. Scott and assumed charge at once. Mr. Alton is very pleasant gentleman and comes to us from Kansas City, where he followed the bakery business. He assures the Tribune that it is his purpose to continue the business along the same lines as those followed by Mr. Scott and his every aim will be to cater to the wants of his trade. He solicits a continuance of patronage, and will be assisted in the front room by Misses Glenna Winchester, and Nettie Hunter. |
