DR. EDWARD D. MILES (1863 – 1947)

DR. EDWARD D. MILES, 83, retired physician and prominent citizen of
Carthage for 25 years, died Saturday in the McCune Brooks Hospital.
He was born September 21, 1863, in Topeka, Kansas. When a small boy, his parents, Col. and Mrs. Sterling B. Miles, moved to Polk County, MO and settled near Humansville, where Edward grew up.
He attended Drury College in Springfield for one semester, then entered Washington University and was graduated from the medical school
there in 1885.
Following graduation, Dr. Miles practiced medicine for many years in St. Clair County. This was during the “horse and buggy days”. Later, he practiced in Henry County.
Dr. Miles was married September 26, 1888 in St. Clair County to Miss Flora B. McCracken.
He is survived by his wife and son, Cecil, of Carthage.
Funeral Services were held March 10, 1947. Burial in Park Cemetery.
