Sister Laura Ellerman, 79, St. Louis, died Sunday, March 10, 1991.
Born
in Colorado, she entered the Sisters of St. Francis in 1931 and made her final
vows in 1936. She worked at hospitals in Maryville and Hannibal, Nebraska City,
Neb., and Oklahoma City. She retired in 1968 to St. Mary of the Angels Convent,
St. Louis.
Services
were held March 14.

Norma Louise Grantham, 67, Sibley, died Wednesday, March 27, 1991 at
Medical Center, Independence.
Born
in King City, she attended school in King City. She formerly lived in King City
and Stanberry, spending her last 40 years in the Buckner area. She was a
retired cook and food service supervisor for the Fort Osage Food Service Co., serving
public schools in the Buckner and Sibley area.
Grantham was a member of United Methodist Church, Buckner;
a Past Worthy Matron of Buckner Chapter #280 Order of Eastern Star; and Niangua
Chapter of Daughters of American Revolution.
She
married Chester Eugene Grantham.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors
include her husband of Sibley; a son, Dewayne,
Independence; a daughter, Martha Ann
Broker, Blue Springs; a brother, Ronald
Ficklin, St. Joseph; and a sister, Marjorie
McGuire, St. Joseph; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren;
numerous nieces and nephews.
Services
will be held at 10 this morning at Reppert-Brown Chapel, Buckner. Burial will
be today at 2:30 at High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry, under the direction of
Johnson Funeral Homes, Stanberry

Leona F. [ern] Groom, 78, Aurora, died Sunday, March 31,1991, at
Community Hospital, Aurora.
Born
June 7, 1912 in Darlington, to A. I.
"Christie" and Margaret Elizabeth Cropper Oyler, she attended
school in Darlington. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church,
Aurora.
Groom was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors
include a son, Jack, Scottsdale,
Ariz.; a daughter, Jan Lewis,
Aurora; two sisters, Mary Miller,
Stanberry, and Leota Carter,
Houston; five grandchildren; and many cousins in the Maryville area.
Services
will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, at Crafton-Cantrell Chapel, Aurora.
Burial will be at 2 p.m. at the Darlington Cemetery, under the direction of
Johnson Funeral Homes, Stanberry.
Memorials
may be made to the organ fund at the First Baptist Church, Aurora.

Matt Clay Gwinn, Alta Loma, Calif., died Jan. 21, 1992 in Alga
Loma.
He
had formerly lived in Maryville and was a 1936 graduate of Maryville High
School.
Mr. Gwinn was a member of the Nodaway Lodge No. 470, and a
Mason.
Survivors
include his wife, Mary Catherine;
one daughter, Diane Holau, Upland,
Calif; one granddaughter and one nephew.
Services will be Saturday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 21300 Via Verde Drive, Covina, Calif. 91724.

Forrest Fay Hall, 74, died Thursday, March 21, 1991, at University Hospital, Denver. Born Oct. 7, 1916 in Bedison to Franklin Banner and Maude Lavinia Pike Hall, he graduated from high school in Barnard, and lived in the communities of Barnard, Parnell and Sheridan before moving to Denver. He owned and operated Hall’s of Denver and was a lapidarius, or stone worker. He married Ida Mildred Rasco on Dec. 30, 1935 in Barnard. He was preceded in death by his wife. Survivors include Edna Hannah and Floyd Hannah, both of Maryville; Betty Lewis and Roland Hall, both of Denver; three sons, James and Jon Hall, both of Denver; and Joe Hall, Parker, Colo.; four granddaughters; and seven great grandchildren. Services were held Monday, March 25, at Olingers Chapel Hill Mortuary. Burial was at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Denver. D.C. and Ruth Willcy, Independence;

great-great-grandchildren.

Ralph Hartzell
Dr.
Ralph E. Hartzell, 85, Kent,
Ohio, died Sunday, Jan. 19,1992 at a hospital in Kent.
Doctor Hartzell was head of the Music Department at Northwest
Missouri State University here during the 1940's, and was Minister of Music at
the First Christian Church, as well as director of the Northwest Missouri Music
Guild.
Since
leaving Maryville and until his retirement, Dr. Hartzell headed the Music Division of Kent State University of
Kent.
Survivors
include his wife, Marie; two sons, Eugene Hartzell, Vienna, Austria and Dick Hartzell, Goshen, N.Y.; two
daughters, Shirley Ardnt, Thousand
Oaks, Calif, and Joan Pettybone, Novelty, Ohio; ten grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
Memorial
services will be held in Kent on Saturday.

Thursday July 17, 1890 [p. 1] Obituary John W. Lytle was born in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, Oct. 20, 1817. He with his parents moved to Washington County, Pennsylvania in 1839. He was married to Hannah Hipple August 12, 1841; their union was blessed with six children, five of whom survive him, J. [ohn] F. [ranklin] Lytle his youngest son having preceded him some three years ago. They moved to Genesee County, Ohio, in 1844. In 1862 they moved to Nodaway County, Missouri, some six miles west of Hopkins where they lived until four years ago when they moved to Hopkins where they spent a pleasant and retired life until his death, July 11, 1890. He passed quietly away at the age of 72 years, 8 months and 21 days. He leaves a wife and five children to mourn his loss. He was converted in Bellville, Ohio in 1842, and united with the M. E. church of which he was such a faithful worker. In his death the church loses one of its most faithful workers, and the community one of its best citizens. He was conscious till the last, giving evidence of his exceptedness with God. He died as he had lived in the triumphs of faith. His funeral was conducted by the pastor, W. B. Redburn at the M. E. church in Hopkins Sunday at 11 o’clock. It was said to be the largest funeral ever held in the city. May the blessing of God be with the friends forever. W. B. R. [lizabeth Puett], wife of Eli McAtee, aged 59 years, 10 months and 5 days. She leaves a husband and five daughters to mourn her loss. She was a loving wife and a devoted mother. She was a member of the M. E. church of Hopkins. The funeral services were held at the residence by Rev. Chapin Monday afternoon, after which the body was interred in Washburn cemetery. Hilton was born Jan. 19, 1910 at New Market, Ia., the son of Frank [Seth Franklin] and Lida Fern Rouse Mick. He was first married to Edna [Lucille] Hall July 28, 1928 in Maryville, Mo. He was then married to Dorothy F. [aye] Mick, Aug. 25, 1943 in Kansas City, Kan. He had lived in Hopkins since 1949. Hilton was a truck driver and carpenter until he retired. He attended the Wray Memorial United Methodist Church in Hopkins. He was preceded in death by three daughters, Debbie, Nancy and Tina Mick; one son, Seth William Mick; parents and one sister, Arvella Higgens. Delia Mary Morris, 84, St. Louis, died Thursday, March 28,1991, at Deaconess Hospital, St. Louis. Born Dec. 24,1906 in Dundee, Minn., to John and Nellie McConnell Dietz, she was a homemaker. She lived in Hopkins from 1936-81. She married Guy William Morris in Owatonna, Minn., on Dec. 15, 1925. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and three sisters. Survivors include a son, Gerald D., Kansas City; two grandchildren, Guy David, Kansas City and Merrie Morris-Hammons, Washington, D.C.; and four great-grandsons. his home.

Sept. 26,1906 near Barnard to Hugh and
Clara Diss O'Donnell, he was a retired employee of the Denver public school
system.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and one
sister.
Survivors
include his wife, Geraldine of the
home; one son, John O’ Donnell; one sister, Mrs. Frances
Schrader, Maryville; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Eva L. [ina] Pence, 108, Maryville, died Tuesday, April 2, 1991, at
Parkdale Manor Nursing Home, Maryville.
Born
Feb. 11,1883 near Clearmont to Perry [Alexander]
and Lizabeth McDonnell Farrens, she taught at the Lone Elm Rural School,
northeast of Clearmont, and was a retired homemaker. She graduated from Hickory
Grove School and the Old Maryville Seminary. She was a member of Prairie Temple
Methodist Church and transferred to the Clearmont Methodist Church. She was the
oldest member for many years.
She
married David Elmer Pence Aug. 5,
1902 in Clearmont. Pence was preceded in death by her husband.
Survivors
include two daughters, Berniee Menelaus and Irene Pettigrew, both of
Maryville; three granddaughters, Ruth
Ann Galiher, Dallas, Joan Byerly,
Virginia City, Nev., and Jean Nicholson,
Wilson, Ark.; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren;
many nieces and nephews.
Services
will be held at 10:30 a. m., Friday, April 5, at Clearmont Cemetery, with the
Rev. Mary Lou Keyser officiating.
Visitation
is currently under way at Price Funeral Home, Maryville.
