Harry Ackley

Harry B. [ryan] Ackley, Maryville, 97, Maryville, died Wednesday, April 20, 1994, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville. 

Born Oct 4, 1896 in Hamburg, Iowa to Willis and Alice Coppage Ackley, he was a retired farmer.

He married Harriett P. [auline] Cowger June 21,1919 in Red Oak, Iowa.

Mr. Ackley was a former resident of Ravenwood, where he farmed from 1938 to 1973, when he and his wife moved to Maryville. He served during World War II in the U. S. Army.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Keith Ackley and Dean Ackley; and two daughters, Phyllis Ackley and Shirley A. Ackley.

Survivors include: his wife, of the home, Maryville; two sons, Junior Ackley, Broken Arrow, Okla., and Kenneth Ackley, St. Joseph; three daughters, Jean Gray, Glenwood, Iowa, Harriett Myers, Oak Grove, and Judy Patterson, Graham; 15 grand-children; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is currently under way at Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville.

Burial will be in Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville.

Mrs. Armstrong, Former County Resident Dies

Mrs. Martha Ellen [Mitchell] Armstrong, 91, formerly of Sheridan, died Sunday in a hospital at Corning, Ia., where she had been seriously ill six weeks and had suffered a chronic illness for many years.

She was born Apr. 10, 1870, near Sheridan, and spent most of her life in that community.

Surviving are one son, Roy Armstrong, Bedford, Ia., and two daughters, Mrs. Elsie Taha, Prescott, Ia., and Mrs. Ethel Maudlin, Clearmont, Mo. Her husband, William Armstrong, died in 1905 and a daughter, Mrs. Bess Strawbridge, died in 1919.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p. m. Tuesday at the Roland Funeral Home, Corning, and burial will be in the Lutheran [Luteston] Cemetery, near Sheridan.

Faye Babcock

Graveside Services for Faye L. Babcock, 96, Albany, formerly of Stanberry, were held today at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, Stanberry with the Rev. Joseph Munshaw officiating.

Ms. Babcock died Thursday, April 14,1994 at Colonial Manor, Albany.

Born Feb. 19, 1898 in Cushing, Okla., to Andrew Wesley and lna Pearl Gooch Deemer, she was a homemaker.

She married Walter R. [aymond] Babcock, Aug. 6, 1916 in Phillipsburg, Kan.

Ms. Babcock was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and a Past Noble Grand; a gray lady for the Red Cross at File Simmons Hospital; a member of the Free Methodist Church, Englewood, Colo.; and the Rebekah Lodge, Englewood, Colo.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; one son, Walter Gerald Babcock; two brothers, Andrew Jewel Deemer and Charles Arthur Deemer; and one sister, Bessie Cole, Alhambra, Calif.

Survivors include: one daughter, Beulah Morrow, Guilford; one son, Charles Deemer, Torrance, Calif.; one sister, Gussie Bennett, Arvada, Calif; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.  

Graveside Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Crown Hill Memorial Cemetery, Denver, Colo.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Funeral Homes, Stanberry.

Margaret Baker

Margaret Leona Baker, 75, Maryville, died Sunday, Sept. 30 at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.

Born Dec. 31, 1914 in Ravenwood to Ralph Elsie and Gertrude L. Bremer Winslow, she married Charles Allen Baker on Jan. 31, 1939 at St. Mary's Church, Maryville.

Mrs. Baker had lived in this area since 1947, and retired from the Maryville Packing Co., after 24 years of employment.

She was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Maryville, and the Sleepy Eye Club, Monmouth, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a daughter, Wanda Joy Baker.

Survivors include one son, Charles Allen Baker, Jr., Maryville, and a sister, Vera Sherman, Ravenwood.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church with the Rev. John E. Leitner officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Maryville.

A Legion of Mary Rosary at 4 p.m. today at St. Gregory's Catholic Church and a parish prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, Maryville.

Mrs. Baker died Sept. 30, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery, Maryville, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home, Maryville. Pallbearers were Kyle Dredge, Art Hamilton, Paul Baker, Jim Gard, Rick Heitman and Hubert Seipel.

UNION STAR — Lila Jean Bollinger, 58, died Thursday evening (July 21, 1983) at a hospital after a long illness.

She was the sister of Dr. Phil Hayes, Maryville.

Mrs. Bollinger was a lifelong resident of Union Star and a member of the First Christian Church there.

Other survivors are her husband, Robert; a daughter, Sherry Anderson, Stewartsville; a son, Larry J. Bollinger, Fort Worth, Texas; her parents, Ray L. and Erma Ebersold Hayes, Union Star; and five grandchildren.

Services were Sunday at the Clark Funeral Home in King City with burial in the Union Star Cemetery.

Genevieve Browning

Genevieve Browning, 81, Clearmont, died Monday, Jan. 24, 1994.

Born April 4, 1912 in rural Hopkins, to Ellsworth and Julia Peve Thompson, she was a homemaker and retired from teaching in 1960 after 29 years of teaching in the Clearmont area.

She married Garold Wesley Browning, June 17, 1944 in Troy, Kan.

Ms. Browning was a 1930 graduate of Hopkins High School. She attended Northwest Missouri State Teachers College, receiving a teaching certificate. She was a member of the Clearmont Baptist Church, Clearmont.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include: two sisters, Marie Wagner, Lee's Summit and Arlene Harris, Raytown; one brother, Blendon Thompson, Hopkins; and seven nieces and nephews.

Visitation is currently under way at Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Clearmont Baptist Church, Clearmont, with the Rev. Don Barnett officiating.

Ms. Browning will lie-in-state from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.

Burial will be in High Prairie Cemetery, Elmo.

Ms. Carrier died Thursday, April 21,1994 in an accident north of Maryville.

Born July 9, 1968 in Omaha, Neb. to Oral Dean "Pete" and Joan Louise Angle Lewis, she was a bookkeeper at Maryville Implement Company.

Ms. Carrier was a 1986 graduate of Ravenwood High School. She was a member of the Ravenwood Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Survivors include: her father of Parnell; three sisters, Cathy McConnell, Maryville, Nancy Sherman, Oak Grove, and Linda Lewis, Omaha, Neb.; grandparents, Rosella Lewis, Ravenwood, Alma and Ernest Angle, Waco, Texas.

Burial was in OakLawn Cemetery, Ravenwood.

James Franklin Carter, 84, Burlington Junction, formerly of Harrison County, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 1994 at his home.

He was born April 14, 1909 in Burlington Junction and was a farmer.

He married Ray Bartlett, Feb. 14, 1992 in Bethany.

Mr. Carter was a member of the Kirkley Chapel United Methodist Church, Ridgeway.

Survivors include: his wife of the home; one daughter, Garlene Carden, Lincoln, Neb.; four step-sons, Michael Winder, Rawlins, Wyo., Larry Winder, Atlanta, Mark Winder, Mt. Vernon, and Robert Winder, Bethany; one sister, Dorothy Romine, Palisade, Neb.; and two granddaughters.

Visitation is currently under way at Roberson-Polley Funeral Home, Bethany.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Roberson-Polley Funeral Home, Bethany.

Verna Cecil

Verna Cecil, 82, Maryville, formerly of Rialto, Calif., died Saturday, April 23, 1994 at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.

Born Oct. 16, 1911 in Schuyler, Neb. to Joseph and Minnie Wesenberg Bartunek, she owned and operated her own beauty shop in Grand Island, Neb., for many years.

She married Leonard Louden in 1936 at Schuyler, who preceded her in death. She married Warren L. Cecil, who also preceded her in death.

A former resident of the Phillips and Grand Island, Neb., areas, Ms. Cecil was a graduate of Schulyer High School and the School of Cosmetology in Sioux City, Iowa. She was a member of the Lutheran Church, Grand Island, Neb.; a charter member of the Eagles Auxiliary, Grand Island; a member of the Kensington Club, Phillips, Neb., and an active member of the senior citizens group in Rialto.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Karma Lea Louden.

Survivors include: one son, Terry D. Louden, Barnard; two grandsons, Brian Edward Pielstick, Grand Island, and Patrick Michael Louden, Los Angeles; one granddaughter, Shawn Rea Flamig, Grand Island; three great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.

Ms. Cecil has been cremated.

Memorial Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Baptist Tabernacle at Lincoln Park in Grand Island, Neb., with the Rev. Brian Pielstick officiating.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Edward Christman

Major Edward F. [ranklin] Christman, 60, retired Missouri State Highway Patrol, St. Joseph, died Sunday, April 24,1994 at a local hospital, following a lengthy illness.

Born and raised in St. Joseph, Maj. Christman began his career Sept. 18, 1955 with the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Maryville and Oregon with Troop H; he was promoted to Sergeant June 1,1967 and assigned to Cameron. On Oct. 1, 1973, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and transferred to Troop D at Carthage; on June 1, 1980, he was promoted to Captain of Troop D at Springfield and transferred to Troop C at Kirkwood; on July 1, 1981, he was transferred to Troop H in St. Joseph, where he served at Troop Commander until Aug. 1, 1987; and then promoted to the rank of major and transferred to Jefferson City. He retired as major Feb. 1,1989 and returned to St. Joseph.

He served with the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church; Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy; a past master of Oregon Lodge No. 139, A.F. & A.M.; 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason; Moila Temple Shrine; Pony Express Post 359 American Legion; and the honorary tribe of Mic-O-Say.

On Dec. 23, 1952, he married the former Donna M. Lindensmith.

He was preceded in death by a son, William G. Christman; and his parents, Chester L. [eopold] and Sylvia M. [ae] Rice Christman.

Survivors include: his wife of the home; one daughter, Sally K. Davidson, Cameron; one son, David E. Christman, Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Alice L. Malone, Gladstone, and Norma M. Milner, Houston; four granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

Family visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Meierhoffer-Fleeman Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Friends may call anytime Tuesday at the funeral home.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Meierhoffer-Fleeman Funeral Home, St. Joseph.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph.

Mrs. Mary Dickerson, Long an Invalid, Dies

Pneumonia Proves Fatal After Paralysis Four Years Ago—Funeral Thursday Afternoon

Mrs. Mary Dickerson, 83 years old, wife of J. [ames] D. Dickerson, died at 8 o’clock this morning at the family home, 302 East Sixth Street. Mrs. Dickerson sustained a stroke of paralysis four years ago last June and had been an invalid since. Her condition took a turn for the worse about 9 o’clock last night with the development of pneumonia.

The funeral will be held at the First Methodist Church at 2:30 o’clock Thursday afternoon conducted by the Rev. R. E. Musgrave, pastor of the Christian Church. Burial will be in Miriam cemetery.

Mary Harrop was born in Ohio, Feb. 19, 1843. Her home had been in Nodaway County for the last thirty-nine years. With the exception of a four years residence north of Burlington Junction, the family had lived near and in Maryville.

Besides her husband she is survived by three stepchildren, Mrs. C. M. Hartness of Maryville, Mrs. George Stevenson of Skidmore and Thurman Dickerson of Butler, Mo.; Mrs. Dickerson was the last member of her family.

----John R. Donaldson died last Friday morning, January 21st, at his home near Stewartsville, Mo., of general dropsy. He was 45 years of age. Mr. Donaldson was a brother of Mrs. Henry Graves and Mrs. H. E. Robinson of this city, and of Mrs. E. D. Wing, who lives near Stewartsville. His wife is a sister of Henry Graves. His remains were brought to Maryville last Friday evening, and on Saturday were buried in Oak Hill cemetery by the side of a sister who was buried there some years ago. Mrs. Donaldson will remain on her farm, near Stewartsville, at least for some time.

BLOCKTON, Iowa — Gladice Marie Gray, 81, died Thursday morning (July 21,1983) at her home.

Born May 4, 1902, near Parnell, she lived in Northwest Missouri and Southwest Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Gray; her parents, Jesse and Etta Fish; a sister; and three grandchildren.

She is survived by five sons, Beryl and Paul Gray, Blockton, Glen Gray, Independence, Jim Gray, Bates City, and Drexel Gray, stationed in Guam; five daughters, Opal Fisher, Grant City, Margaret Darling, Norfolk, Va., Marcelline Foote, Casper, Wyo., Lorraine Cooley, Valley, Wash., and Elaine Schornhorst, Independence; a brother; a sister; 36 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday at the Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, Iowa, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery Blockton.

[GRAY, JOHN M., 1810-1886]

-----John Gray, who recently died near Pickering, and his brother Martin and their families came to this country April 5th, 1842. There was but one house in Maryville at that time, which was occupied by a doctor whose name Mrs. Gray, the widow of John, does not remember, and there was but one house between Maryville (or rather the doctor’s cabin) and where the Grays settled. The Grays came from Campbell County, east Tennessee, and were six weeks making the journey.

Kenneth Gray

Kenneth Charles Gray, 78, Hopkins, died Friday, Oct. 5, 1990, at Maryville Health Care Center following a long illness.

Born Feb. 28, 1912, in Shambaugh, Iowa, to George Sylvester and Phemie Clotilda Roush Gray, he lived his entire life in the Hopkins area. He married Alice Elva Smith Dec. 6, 1932, in Maryville, and was a retired farmer. Survivors include his wife of the home; nine sons, Charles, Ronald, Harold and Darold, all of Hopkins, Donald, Ravenwood, Marvin, Union Star, James, Milford, N.H., Elvin, Maryville; and Roger, Eugene, Ore.; one daughter, Shirley Irwin, Hopkins; two brothers, Alvin, Hopkins, and Glen, Newhall, Calif.; three sisters, Bonnie Friend, Maryville, Fern Jones, Dickinson, Texas, and Elva Kneiuim, Tabor, Iowa; 20 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m.  Monday at Swanson-Price Funeral Chapel, Hopkins, with the Rev. Kent Mercer officiating. Burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery under the direction of Swanson-Price Funeral Home, Hopkins.

Born Oct. 28, 1909 in Irish Creek, Kan. to Thomas J. and Lillian Ryan Smith, she was a homemaker.

She married Joseph Henry Heitman, Aug. 12,1930 in Topeka, Kan.

Ms. Heitman was a high school graduate. She was a member of St. Gregory' s Parish and the St. Gregory's Guild, both of Maryville.

She was preceded in death by: her husband; and three brothers, Jerry Smith, Tom Smith and Joseph Smith.

Survivors include: one son, Richard E. Heitman, Maryville; three daughters, Rita Boyd, Bedford, Iowa, Mary Jo Patton, Springfield and Jean Ann Casey, Mercer; two sisters, Rita Miller, Overland Park, Kan. and Agnes Perine, Topeka, Kan.; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Born Feb. 8,1904 in Elmo to Charles Wesley and Minnie Liew Miller McMichael, she was a homemaker and retired nurses aide.

She married John Webster Hill, Dec. 31,1929 in New Hampton.

Ms. Hill attended New Hampton School through the tenth grade She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Stanberry; and Lafayette Community club.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; one son, Calvin; one daughter, June Marie; and one brother, Beldon McMichael.

Survivors include: one son, Kenneth Hill; one daughter, Darlene J. Wall, Excelsior Springs; four sisters, Alta Beery, Lee's Summit, Rose Arthur, Blue Springs, Wilma Reed, Dearborn, and Betty Shimp, Kansas City; four brothers, Wilbur McMichael, Trimble, Ray McMichael, Kansas City, Don McMichael, Kansas City, and Glen Dale McMichael, Kansas City; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ms. House died Wednesday, April 20, 1994 at the O.E.A. Manor in Omaha, Neb. 

Born Sept. 23,1892 near Allendale, she was a retired schoolteacher.

Ms. House was a 1912 graduate of Grant City High School. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Omaha; the Methodist Hospital Auxiliary; and many teaching organizations.

Survivors include: one sister, Ruth Martin, Palo Alto, Calif.; five nieces and three nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 1994 at O.E.A. Manor in Omaha.

Born Feb. 26, 1897 near Blanchard, Iowa, to Otho and Mary Cleaver Pruitt, she was a homemaker.

She married Walter Huff in 1919.

Ms. Huff was a graduate of Elmo High School. She lived on a farm near Elmo, until moving to Blanchard in 1955. In 1992, she moved to Bedford to make her home with her son, Robert.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; brother, Roland Pruitt; and sister, Leta Bodle.

Survivors include: four sons, Norval Huff, Nebraska City, Neb., Robert Huff, Bedford, Iowa, Richard Huff, Cameron and Jack Huff, Cameron; two daughters, Mary Huff, Bedford and Kathleen Rinehart, Grant City; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is currently under way at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Blanchard United Methodist Church.

Burial will be in High Prairie Cemetery, Elmo.

Eldon Dale Ingels, 70, St. Joseph, died Monday, April 25, 1994 at the VA Medical Center, Leavenworth, Kan.  

Born Oct. 26, 1923 in Pickering, to Ernest and Alma Holt Ingels, he was a retired truck driver.

Mr. Ingels lived in the Pickering, Barnard and Maryville areas about 40 years before moving to Kansas City and then to St. Joseph. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Maryville.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donovan Ingels and R. T. "Dory" Ingels and one sister, Eunice Neidel.

Survivors include: one son, Jerry Dale Ingels, Maryville; three sisters, Doris Swinford, Burlington Junction, Gladys Greenawalt, Independence; and Betty Lee Brown, La Mirada, Calif.; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Florence Mae Lawson, 78, Maryville, died at 5:20 a.m. today at the St. Francis Hospital, where she had been a patient one-day.

Born Dec. 15,1899, at Maryville, she was the daughter of the late Joel and Lulu May Hughes Trullinger. On Dec. 15, 1917, she was married at Ravenwood to Cecil Lawson, who survives. She had been a resident of Maryville since April 28, 1971, and prior to that had lived at Ravenwood.

Mrs. Lawson was a member of the Maryville First Christian Church, Tri-M Club, Red Cross Volunteers, Nodaway County Historical Society, Ravenwood Literary Progressive Club, Elks Ladies Auxiliary and Maryville 20th Century Club.

Besides her husband of the home, she is survived by two sons, Kenneth D. Lawson, Schofield, Wisc., and Eldon E. Lawson, Bay Village, Ohio; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Mrs. Harold Snyder, Fairfax; nieces and nephews. A brother, Donald Trullinger, also preceded her in death.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Maryville First Christian Church, with the Rev. Robert Allen to officiate. Burial will be in Nodaway Memorial Gardens. Family visitation will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Price Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established in her name at the Maryville First Christian Church.

She married Claude Edwin Loch, March 27,1920 in Maryville.

Ms. Loch was a member of the Ravenwood First Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by: her husband; one son, Frank T. Loch Jr.; three brothers, Fred O'Bannion, Ora O'Bannion and Floyd O'Bannion; three sisters, Bessie Loomis, Mamie Stuart and Pearl O'Bannion.

Mrs. Henrietta McNeal Dies; Lived Near Graham

Mrs. Henrietta McNeal, age 76, a resident of Nodaway county for sixty-three years, died at 10 o’clock last night at her home six miles southeast of Graham. Death was caused from cancer.

She came to this county from Pennsylvania in 1867 and settled on a farm near Graham.

Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Mike McQuad, near Graham; Mrs. Tom Allen, St. Joseph, and Mrs. J. A. Connor who lived with Mrs. McNeal.

The funeral will be held a 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the residence. Burial will be at the Kyle cemetery.

Mrs. Jessie Mildred Newton, 80, owner of the Newton Café, Skidmore, died at 1:50 p. m. Friday at Parkdale Manor Convalescent Center, Maryville, where she had been living the past three weeks.

She was born March 28, 1894, at Skidmore, the daughter of the late John David and Mary Long Dawson, and had lived all her life in that community. She was married at Maryville to Myron B. Newton, who died in 1968. Mrs. Newton was a member of the Skidmore Christian Church.

Surviving are four sons, Homer L. Newton, Lincoln, Neb.; James E. and R. G. Newton, Skidmore, and George L. Newton, Bethany; six daughters, Mrs. Mary Johnson, Mrs. Lou Diggs and Mrs. Inez Boyer, Skidmore; Mrs. Beth Bonner, Maitland; Mrs. Dixie Collins, Maryville, and Mrs. Judy Flynn, St. Joseph; one brother, J. L. Dawson, Maryville; 21 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a son, Fred Newton, Maryville, in June 1969.

Virgil L. [ane] Sharr, 64, Quitman, MO, died Monday, July 29, 1996, at the Clarinda Community Care Center.

He was born May 17, 1932, in Nodaway County, MO, and was the son of Wiley Wilmer Sharr and Ruby Lee (Judd) Sharr.

He married Dorothy Lois Gardner Pierson, on March 25, 1986, in Fairfield Bay, AR. Sharr was a graduate of Hopkins High School, class of 1950. 

Sharr served in the U.S. Navy, during the Korean War, on the U.S.S. Cushing. He was a retired mechanic and former owner of B.J.'s, west of Skidmore, MO.

Sharr was a past president of the Eagle's Lodge #3669. He was a member and past commander of the James Edward Gray American Legion Post #100 and a member of the Seth Ray David VFW Post #442, all of Maryville, MO.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter; Phyllis Lea Sharr; one brother, John William Sharr; and one sister, Ina May Sharr.

Survivors are his wife, Dorothy Sharr, Quitman; a daughter, Katherine DeHaai, Hartford; two sons, James Edwin Sharr, Adel; John William Sharr, Clarinda; four grandsons and three granddaughters.

Visitation was from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 31, 1996, at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Born April 29, 1907, in Siam, Iowa, he was the son of James and Eva Proffitt Sleep. He married Mabel Fern Parker and was a retired farmer. He moved from his farm south of Bedford to Hopkins in 1974.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Guy Sleep, Anamosa, Iowa; a daughter, Margaret Young, Hopkins; two brothers, Troy Sleep, Shenandoah, Iowa, and Harmon Sleep, Clarinda, Iowa; two sisters, Dona Fine, Bedford, Iowa, and Goldie Narber, Hopkins; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hopkins Christian Church, of which he was a member, with burial in the Hopkins Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Swanson-Price Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to the Lions Club Eye Foundation.

Mrs. Troncin, who was 33 years old, died Saturday morning in a Omaha, Neb., hospital. She lived in Maryville about four years ago.

Born Feb. 16, 1917, in Fairfax to H. O. and Opal Edna Kincannon Watkins, Mr. Watkins retired in 1979 as manager of Budweiser Beer Distributor for J. H. Overton, Co.

He married Ruth Marietta Herron on July 31, 1946 in Fairfax, and had lived in Maryville since 1947. Mr. Watkins was in the Army and served in World War II. He was a member of the Fairfax Methodist Church; a past commander of American Legion Post #315, Burlington Junction; life member of American Legion Post #100, Maryville; life member of Maryville Host Lions Club; and the Elks BPO #760, Maryville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bill, Ravenwood and Jerry, Maryville; a daughter, Kay Watkins-Johnson, Houston; two granddaughters and three grandsons; a twin brother, Winfred "Spoofy," Fairfax; a sister, Gertrude Gilliland, Smithville; a brother, Dale "Ace," St. Joseph; and many nieces and nephews.

Elmer H. Wellington

Elmer H. [art] Wellington, 81, Maryville, MO, formerly of Quitman, MO, died Sunday evening at the Maryville Health Care Center.

He was born February 21,1915 in Skidmore, MO, to Arthur W. and Fannie Hart Wellington. He was a retired farmer and bus driver. He was a member of Brethren Church which was once located near Skidmore.

He married Edith Neal, February 23, 1937, in Skidmore and shared 54 years of marriage before her death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Edith in 1991; two brothers, Glenn and Jessie; and two sisters, Bessie and Ruth.

He is survived by two children, Ronald Wellington, Maryville; and Connie Dunn, Burlington Junction, MO; a sister, Mary Reed, Maryville; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are planned for Wednesday morning at 11 a.m., at the Barr-Merrick Funeral Chapel in Burlington Junction. Burial will be at the Quitman Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Barr-Merrick Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Funeral services for Iona Ruth White, 72, of Maryville, Mo. were held Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003 at Price Funeral Home in Maryville. Interment was at Nodaway Memorial Gardens in Maryville, Mo. Memorials are suggested to SSM Hospice of Northwest Missouri or Compassionate Care Hospice of Iowa. She died November 15, 2003 at Bedford Nursing and Rehab Center in Bedford after a brief illness.

Iona Ruth White was born December 21, 1930 in Montgomery City, Mo. to James Summers and Louise Hemmingsen Summers. She was a homemaker and a member of the Hopkins First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Louise Hemmingsen Summers, sister Margie McGowen, husband Forrest Everett White (Jan. 6, 1995); two brothers, Willis and Don Summers.

Left to cherish her memory are two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Debbie White, Hopkins, Mo. and Dennis and Renee White, Bedford, Iowa, one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Lloyd Hansen, Hopkins, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene Smith, Grant City, Mo. and Maxine Stark, Versailles, Mo.; several nieces and nephews.

GRANT CITY — Myrtle Winemiller, 99, died Sunday morning (July 24, 1983) [in] an Albany hospital.

A native of Sheridan, she had lived in a Grant City nursing home for 10 years.

Survivors are two sons, Albert Winemiller, Kansas City, and Virgil Winemiller, St. Joseph; a brother, Guy Cooper, Pickering; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Sheridan Christian Church, with burial in Sheridan Cemetery.

The family will meet friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home in Grant City. The family suggests memorials to the Christian Church in Sheridan or the Worth County Convalescent Center in Grant City.

Lileth [Virginia] Wiseman, 76, Hopkins, died Monday, Dec. 25, 1995, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.

She was born in Forest City, Dec. 10, 1919, to W. [illiam] R. [alph] and Beulah Orendorff Schaeffer.

A homemaker, she had lived in Hopkins since her marriage to Virgil E. [verett] Wiseman in 1937. He died in 1978.

Survivors include a brother, Ralph Schaeffer, Oregon; and six sisters, Vivian Harris, Lenexa, Kan., Rube Kerns, Craig, Genava Weaver, Amarillo, Texas, Jane Cable and Nadine Hurst, St. Joseph, and Anna Field, Mount Vernon.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p. m. today, Thursday, Dec. 28, at Swanson-Price Funeral Home, Hopkins. Burial will be in Hopkins Cemetery.

Lileth "Ginger" Wiseman, 76, of Hopkins, Mo, passed away on Monday, December 25, 1995, at the St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.

Born on December 10, 1919, Forest City, Mo, to W. [illiam] R. [alph] Schaeffer and Beulah Orendorff. She was a homemaker.

1937 she married Virgil Everett Wiseman in Cameron, Mo and had lived in the Hopkins area since 1937.

Mrs. Wiseman was preceded in death by her parents; husband, April 24, 1978; four brothers, Leon, Harold, Clarence and Henry Schaeffer; three sisters, Nonavee Andrews, Maxine Schaeffer and Retta Christmas.

Loren "Jack Wiseman, 88, Hopkins, died today (March 24,1986) at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.

He was born Feb. 5, 1898, in Wilcox to Silas and Margaret (Sexson) Wiseman.

He married Carolyn Edwards May 12,1934, in Lincoln, Neb.

He farmed before retiring.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Alma Morrison and Nell Bradley; and two brothers, Forrest "Jerry" and Virgil "Bus" Wiseman.

He is survived by his wife, of the home; two sisters, Esther Young, Hopkins, and Inez Mackey, Maryville; and one brother, Leland Wiseman, Bedford, Iowa.

Visitation is set for 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday (March 25, 1986) at Price Funeral Home Inc., Maryville.

Lula Grace Wiseman, 97, Hopkins, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 1990, at Parkdale Manor, Maryville.

Born June 28,1893, in Hopkins to Isom and Alice Thompson Snodgrass, she married Harold Cook Wiseman, Sr. on Nov. 11, 1916 in Hopkins. She was a graduate of what is now Northwest Missouri State University with a teaching certificate. She was a member of the Hopkins Christian Church, Hilltop Club, Art Club, and the Christian Women's Fellowship and OES, all of Hopkins.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one son.

Survivors include a son, Harold C. Wiseman, Jr., Sun City, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Church, Hopkins, with the Rev. Mark Imel officiating. Burial will be at the Hopkins Cemetery, Hopkins.

DENNIS LEE YOUNG

Dennis Lee Young, 53 of St Joseph, Missouri died in a farm accident in rural Taylor County, Iowa. Dennis      was      born December   26, 1951    in Maryville to Eldon Lee and Margaret Fern (Sleep) Young. He was a graduate of Hopkins High School, Hopkins, Missouri in 1969; Fairbury Community College, Fairbury, Nebraska in 1971 and Tarkio College, Tarkio, Missouri in 1988.

Dennis served in Desert Storm in the US Army and he had been in the Missouri Army National Guard. He was a Captain, Engine #6-B shift of the St Joseph Missouri Fire Department.

He was a member of the Hopkins, Missouri First Christian Church; IAFF Union #77 and the American Legion Post #359, both of St Joseph, Missouri; The Hopkins Missouri Historical Society and a former member of Boy Scout Troop #65 and Tribe Mic-O-Say.

Dennis is survived by a daughter: Melissa Kissler and her husband Adam, granddaughter: Natalee Kissler, and parents: Eldon and Margaret Young, all of Hopkins, Missouri; brother and sister-in-law: David and Kathy Young, Falls City, Nebraska; nephew: Christopher Young and his wife: Amanda, Lincoln, Nebraska; two nieces: Alisha Sutton and her husband: Shane and Laura Young, all of Falls City; two great-nieces: Alexis and Piper Sutton, Falls City; two great-nephews: Dylan Sutton, Falls City and Colby Young, Lincoln; two Uncles: Guy Sleep and his wife: Thelma, Bella Vista, Arkansas and Lewis Young and his wife, Doris, Hopkins. A loving companion: Karen Browns and her daughter: Marian Woods, both of St Joseph, Missouri;

Funeral services were Friday, June 24th at the First Christian Church, Hopkins; Visitation was Thursday, at the Hopkins Christian Church; burial in Hopkins Cemetery, Hopkins, Missouri.

Military Services was conducted at graveside by the Missouri Military Honors Program.

HOPKINS — Francis Lee Young, 82, Hopkins, died Saturday (March 24, 1984) at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Neb. after a long illness.

He was born Dec. 31, 1901, in Hopkins, the son of Martin David Young and Susie Gray Bill Young.

On Feb. 8,1928, he married Esther Wiseman in Maryville.

Mr. Young was a lifetime resident of Hopkins. He operated Young Oil Company in Hopkins for 35 years. He was also a farmer.

He was a member of the Hopkins Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Esther Young, of the home; two sons, Eldon Young and Lewis Young, both of Hopkins; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Young was preceded in death by one grandson, Randall E. Young, and one brother, John Young.

Services are planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday (March 27,1984) at Hopkins Christian Church with the Rev. Tom Lawing officiating.

Burial is set for Hopkins Cemetery, Hopkins.

Margaret Fern (Sleep) Young 72, of Hopkins, Missouri died July 20, 2005 at her home in Hopkins.

She was born October 29, 1932 in Bedford, Iowa to Harley and Mabel (Parker) Sleep.  

A graduate of Bedford High School, Bedford Iowa, Margaret married Eldon Lee Young June 3, 1951 in Hopkins.

She owned and operated "Young's Craft and sewing center" in Hopkins for many years.

She was a member of the Hopkins First Christian church, the Hopkins Historical Society, Rosanna Chapter #262 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Maryville, Missouri and. a former Cub Scout Den Leader.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son: Dennis Young, June 18, 2005.

Margaret is survived by her husband: Eldon, of their home in Hopkins; son and daughter-in-law: David and Kathy Young, Falls City, Nebraska; four grandchildren and spouses: Alisha and Shane Sutton, Falls City; Christopher and Amanda Young, Lincoln, Nebraska; Melissa and Adam Kissler, Hopkins; Laura Young, Falls   City; five   great-grandchildren: Dylan, Alexis and Piper Sutton, Falls City; Colby Young, Lincoln and Natalae Kissler, Hopkins; a brother: Guy and his wife: Thelma Sleep, Bella Vista, Arkansas; brother-in-law Lewis and his wife, Doris Young, Hopkins; several nieces and nephews;
