 Dawes, Joseph – The hand of death again visits the home and takes away an old pioneer, this time Joseph Dawes who was born in Richmond, Ky., June 23rd, 1834, and died after two weeks illness at the home of his daughter, Mrs Geo Wynn, Oct 16th, 1915. He was 81 years, 3 months and 16 days. The early part of his life was spent in Nodaway Co., Mo. In 1859 he married Kitty Ann Hudgens of Troy, Kans., and moved to Nodaway County, Mo., where she died 12 years ago. Since that time he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs George Wynn. He was the father of ten children of which seven survive; Bailey Dawes, deceased; Mrs Talythe Macey of Fayette, Idaho; Miss Molly Dawes, of Colby, Kansas, deceased; Mrs Margaret Bryns of Tacoma, Wash; James and George at Mill City, Oreg; Mrs Eliza Wilson, Salem, Oreg; Mrs George Wynn, Miss Lola Wynn, of this city; Mrs Florence Thomas of Trenton, Nebr; and Arlington Dawes of Clearmont, Mo, deceased. The funeral was held Monday 18th, at the Hazel Dell school house near Clearmont, and burial at Hazel Dell cemetery. The services were conducted by the Rev J.A. Nayle. [103] Dalbey,  Evaline, 93, of Burlington Junction, Missouri, passed away Sunday evening, at Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville, Missouri where she has been a resident for the past three and one half years. She was born September 8, 1912, near Quitman, Missouri, to Alton and Gladys Hackett Logan.

She graduated from the Burlington Junction High School in 1931. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Burlington Junction, Missouri, the Christian Women's Fellowship, served as a 4-H leader for many years, was a member of The Bridge Club, the Star Club and T&C Extension Club.

Evaline was married to Fletcher S. Dalbey, Jr. October 9, 1935, at Maryville, Missouri and they lived on a farm southwest of Burlington Junction until his death in 1974. She moved into Burlington Junction in 1975.

Evaline is survived by a daughter, Doris Hagey and her husband Bobby of Burlington Junction, Missouri; three grandchildren, Ronnie and Angela Hagey, Curt Hagey all of Burlington Junction and Joy and Kim Jones of Elmo, Missouri; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband (1974); a sister, Geraldine Otte and a brother, Willis Logan.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 30, 2005, at the First Christian Church, Burlington Junction, Missouri. Visitation will be Tuesday from 7-8 p.m. at Barr-Merrick Funeral Chapel, Burlington Junction. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church.

Dalbey, Evaline, 93, Burlington Jct., died Sunday, November 27, 2005, at Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville. She was born September 8, 1912, near Quitman, to Alton and Gladys Hackett Logan. [104] Dale, Margarete A. daughter of Moses B. and Margarete Carter Church, was born Oct 7, 1836, at Stafford, Conn., and entered into rest at the home of her daughter, Mrs W.C. Keith, Bedford, Iowa, Thursday, Feb 15, 1923, aged 86 years, 4 months and 8 days.

When but six months of age she with her parents settled in the portion of Black Hawk Territory later known as Iowa, then a vast wilderness, 86 years ago, and 9 years before the territory became a state. Her father, a minister in the Congregational church had been sent west as a missionary. The location where they first settled is known as Tipton, Iowa.

Aside from the tutorage received from her well educated parents she received instruction in Iowa schools finally receiving special training in what was then known as Cornell University, Mt Vernon, Iowa. In early womanhood she was a school teacher and well did she understand the visissitudes and hardships of the [page torn] was a great reward for her sacrifice and work in this great cause.

In early life she was active in church work and while she held membership until the day of her home going in the Congregational church, she during her life time worked in many other churches. At one time she was a member of the Rebekak lodge.

On account of defective hearing, she of late years has not been active in or attended public services. But her exceptionally bright mind has not been idle for she kept posted on current events thru newspapers and magazines.

She possessed a great memory, often quoting whole poems for her own amusement as well as those about her. Because of a very strong will and constitution her mind seemed clear until the end, although she suffered a stroke of paralysis in June, 1922. She was of happy disposition and always interested in the welfare of others.

Since the death of her husband, July 20, 1898, she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs Keith, where she has received the most care and attentions.

Damewood, Maureen D., age 72, of Burlington Junction, Missouri, passed away Sunday afternoon, June 4, 2006 at her home. She was born September
24, 1933, at Omaha, Nebraska. She attended school at Burlington
Junction and graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1951. Maureen married Ronald Damewood, August 31, 1952, at Clearmont, Missouri and they shared more than fifty-three years of marriage. She was a homemaker and owned and operated her own upholstery business. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Burlington Junction and the Women's Society of the Church.

Maureen was preceded in death by her parents; an infant twin sister; and a grandson, Matthew Kane Reasoner.

She is survived by her husband, Ron of the home; three children, Cynthia and Mike Hanig, Skidmore; Roy and Kathy Damewood, Burlington Junction; Rodney and Susan Damewood, Skidmore; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church, Burlington Junction. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7-8 at Barr-Merrick Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Clearmont Cemetery, Clearmont, Missouri.

[106] Daniels, Eleanor Marie, 73, of Maryville [Missouri], passed from this life on, Saturday, May 6, 2006 at the Parkdale Manor Care Center.

Born on March 10, 1933 in Fonda, Iowa she was the daughter of the late George Matthew & Anna Amanda (Hanke) Myott. She was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church. She retired after 27 years as the Patient Accounts Coordinator at St. Francis Hospital & Health Care Services.

She is survived by her loving husband, James Ralph Daniels, whom she married on October 10, 1952 in Independence, Mo, son Jim R. Daniels and wife Janet, Maryville, daughter, Sharon K. Hilbert, grandchildren, Christy Frueh, Jeremy White, Renee Daniels, Jason White, Mindy Hilbert, Cody Hilbert, great-grandchildren, Deryk Frueh, Tyler Frueh, Brooke Sharp, Jordan Vangundy, Dylan White & Victoria Frueh.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Janice Armagost.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, May 12, 2006 at the Danfelt Funeral Home, 951 S. Main Street, Maryville, MO 64468 with Father Martin DeMeuienacre, OSB & Rev. Greg J. Temke, Officiating.

Levi Daniels Rites In Bedford Saturday

Levi Daniels died January 19.  Funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Fred H. Cowles.  Burial in Hopkins cemetery.

Levi Riley Daniels, son of James and Elizabeth Daniels, was born July 1, 1880, at Hopkins, Mo., and died at the age of 74 years, six months, 18 days.

On October 2, 1901, he was married to Myrtle Huey.  To them two children were born.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Francis Daniels, of Bedford; one daughter, Chloe, Mrs. Cleo Stewart, of Hopkins; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Davis, Mary Catherine, 89, of Graham, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at the Heartland Regional Medical Center.

She was born June 13, 1918 at Maitland, Missouri the daughter of Arthur Lee and Laura Dovell Armentrout. She attended and graduated from New Point, Missouri Schools. She was a rural school teacher in Holt County.

She was united in marriage on April 30, 1939 at Ravenwood Methodist Church to the late Earl Andrew Davis whom passed on September 26, 2006. To this union four children were born. She was a member of the Graham United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She served the church and the UMW in many offices. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 402, Skidmore, of which she served in many offices including Worthy Matron. She was a member of the Graham Progressive Club, the Jolly Mixers Club and the Graham Community Betterment and was a leader in the 4-H club.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl, a son-in-law Charles Douglas Johnson, two brother-in-laws Leonard Cassell and Albert Zapf, and a sister-in-law Leta Zapf.

Left to survive her passing includes her two daughters, Rosalea Johnson, Graham, & Geneva Lou Tubbs and husband, Donald of Bigelow, MO, her twin sons, Dr. Larry Andrew Davis and wife Cindy, Granite City, IL, & Dr. Gary Authur Davis and wife, Sherri of Omaha, NE, two sisters, Dorothy Dallmann of South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Georgia Cassell, St. Joseph, twelve grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and six great grandchildren, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Death of E. C. Dooley

E. [zekiel] C. [olumbus] Dooley died at his home in Bedford on Sunday, February 14, aged 54 years, 1 month and 8 days.  The body was taken to Hopkins on Tuesday and the funeral was held in the M. E. church at that place, conducted by Rev. Geo. Hendrickson of Bedford.  Interment was made in the Hopkins cemetery.

Ezekiel C. [olumbus] Dooley was born in Parke County, Indiana, Dec. 6, 1854, and there spent the early days of his manhood.  In 1893 he moved to Hopkins, where he lived until December 1907, when he came to Bedford, which was his home thereafter.

Deceased was twice married; his first wife died in 1883 and in 1887 he was married to Miss Achsah Dulin, who with the two children born of this union, survive him.

Dougherty, Merrill Edwin, 58, Hopkins [Missouri], died Wednesday, April 2, 1997, at his home in rural Hopkins.

Born Oct 28, 1938, in Hopkins, to John Wesley and Lena Irene Cox Dougherty, he had been a construction worker and farmer.

He married Anita DeMott, Aug 17, 1957, in Hopkins.

A lifetime resident of the Hopkins area, Mr Dougherty was a 1956 graduate of Hopkins High School. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Hopkins.

He was preceded in death by his father; and step-father, Joe Jefferies.

Survivors include his wife, Anita, of Hopkins; one son, Kevin Dougherty of Graham; two daughters, Stephanie Rucker of Hopkins, and Andrea Leader of Barnard; his mother, Lena Jefferies of Hopkins; two brothers, James Dougherty of Blue Eye, Mo., and Jo Jefferies Jr of Ridgefield, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr Dougherty's body will be at the Swanson-Price Chapel, Hopkins, after 3 pm, Friday.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 pm Friday, at Swanson-Price Chapel, Hopkins.

Services will be held at 10 am, Saturday, April 5, at the First Baptist Church, Hopkins, with the Rev David Kaster.

Burial will be in Hopkins Cemetery, Hopkins.

Born on November 28, 1914 she was the daughter of the late James & Margret (Kermode) Kermeen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Joseph Dow on July 10, 1992.

She was a member of the Clearmont Methodist Church. She was a homemaker as well as a school teacher for many years in Northwest Missouri.

Kermeen, a daughter-in-law, Janet Dow, one grandchild and one great grandchild.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, July 23, 2007 at the Danfelt Funeral Home, 951 S. Main Street, Maryville, MO 64468. Final Resting Place will be in the Clearmont Cemetery.

Joseph Dowell Died Here Saturday

Joe Dowell, a resident of Bedford and community for many years, died January 22.  Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Fred H. Cowles.  Burial in New Hope cemetery south of Bedford.

Joseph Thomas Dowell, son of Thomas and Mary Ann Dowell, was born west of Petersburg, in Menard County, Ill., December 25, 1868, and died at the age of 86 years, 27 days.

On Nov. 4, 1891 he was married to Viola Jane Allison.  To this union seven children were born.

He is survived by two sons:  Irvin of Diagonal, Grant of Fairfield; two daughters, Mrs. Lela Snyder and Mrs. Beatrice Beaver of Bedford; 28 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

When he was 14 years of age he moved with his parents from Illinois, and they made their home near Hopkins.  He was married at Hopkins and later moved to Iowa. In 1920 he gave up farming and moved into Bedford, where he had made his home since.  His wife died in April, 1936.

When a young boy of 13 he accepted Christ as his Saviour, and united with the Concord Baptist church near Petersburg, Ill., and was baptized n the Sangamon River near the church.  After moving to Iowa, he worked in the New Hope and East Mission Baptist churches for many years.  After moving to Bedford, he united with the First Baptist church.

Dowis, Doris Marie Stone - Doris Marie Dowis, 62, Sheridan, died Tuesday, Oct 2 [1990] at Gentry County Memorial Hospital, Albany [Missouri].

Born April 13, 1928, in Pickering to Victor and Ellen Swaney Stone, Mrs Dowis was a teacher's aid who worked with handicapped children for 17 years. She married Glen Dowis on Jan 3, 1948, in Topeka, Kan.

She was a member of the Christian Church and American Legion Auxiliary, Sheridan.

She was preceded in death by her father and a son.

Survivors include her husband; her mother, Grant City; two daughters, Mona Dierenfeldt, Hopkins, and Linda Parman, Albany; two sons, Victor, Albany, and Paul, of the home; three brothers, Dennis Stone, Salem, Ark., Paul Stone, Independence, and Dean Stone, Lone Jack; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The body was cremated. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Oct 6, at Parugh-Dunfee Funeral Home, Grant City. Burial will be at the Sheridan Cemetery.

Memorial gifts will be used for handicapped children.

[126] Downing, Gail L. - Gail L. Downing, 73, of Maryville, passed from this life on Sunday, June 24, 2007 at the St. Francis Hospital.

Born on August 14, 1933 in rural Sheridan, MO he was the son of the late William & Eula (Hibbs) Downing.

He graduated from Grant City High School in 1953. He was a Veteran serving in the US Army from 1953 to 1955 and two years in the National Guard. He was a graduate from Moler Barber College in 1956 and operated Downing's Barber Shop for over 50 years till his retirement. He was a member of the Laura Street Baptist Church where he served as a deacon & choir member. His organs were donated to the Midwest Transplant Network.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years whom he married on February 9, 1958 in Maryville, Shirley Sue (Wilkinson) Downing, loving children, Jerry Downing and wife Jolene, Burlington Junction, Gayla Stevens and husband Les, Rochester, MN, Jeanie Harding and husband Kevin, Grant City, sisters, Donna Findley, Albany, MO, Rose Hubbard, Tulsa, OK, brothers, Allen Downing, Copeland, KS and Harold Downing, Grant City, ten grandchildren: Jerod Downing wife Jennifer, Verlena Coston husband Micah, James Downing wife Karamaneh, Valyssa Downing, Blake, Bruce, and Brock Stevens, Emiley, Abbey, and Lucas Harding, and two great-grandchildren: Imajen Downing and Jolyssa Coston. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and one sister.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at the Laura Street Baptist Church, 120 S. Laura Street, Maryville, MO with the Rev. Paul McKim, Officiating. Final Resting Place will be in the Nodaway Memorial Gardens with Military Honors under the auspices of the November Team of the Missouri Military Honors Program.

[127] Drumm, Daniel - Daniel Drumm, son of George and Sarah Drumm, was born in Licking county, Ohio, on May 3rd, 1839 and passed away on March 20th, 1919 at the home of his daughter, Mrs L.B. Tracy at Maryville, Mo, aged 79 years, 10 months, and 17 days.

He moved to Knox county, Illinois when only one year old and there made his home for a number of years. On December 24th, 1863 he was united in marriage with Miss Louisa White. Eight children were born to this union, two of whom have passed on Frederick N. dying September 15, 1902 and Bertie R. on June 5, 1913. The remaining six children survive their father - William S. Drumm, of Frederick, Okla, Lewis M. Drumm, of Hamilton, Mo, Emery L. Drumm of Stillwater, Okla, Edwin R. Drumm of Conway, Iowa; Epha M. Drumm and Mrs Nellie Tracy, of Maryville, Mo.

Brother and sister Drumm made their home in Illinois until 1888 when they moved to Eldorado, Kansas. they lived in Kansas two years and from there moved to Hopkins, Mo. Here they made their home for 8 years coming from there to Bedford. This good couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Dec 24th, 1913 and the following April, Mrs Drumm passed on to her great reward. Since that time Mr Drumm and daughter Epha have maintained the home in Bedford until recent months when they went to the home of Mrs Tracy at Maryville.

Brother Drumm early in life became a member of the United Brethren Church. When the family moved to Bedford he united with the Methodist Episcopal church; of which he has remained an earnest exemplary member. Loyal and trustworthy, cheerful and brotherly. He was a good man and true. In the fullness of years he has laid down the burden and is at rest.

The body was brought to Bedford on Saturday and the funeral held at the Methodist Church at 1:30 pm in charge of the parlor, Levi P. Goodwin. Burial in Fairvew. Bedford Free-Press, Bedford, Iowa, Mar 26, 1919

[128] Drumm, Louisa White - Mrs Daniel Drumm died Monday at her home in Bedford, aged 66 years. Funeral services were held at the residence at 10:30 o'clock Wednesday morning, conducted by Rev Joe W. Goodsell. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery.

Louisa White was born in Knox county, Illinois, September 6, 1847.

She was united in marriage to Daniel Drumm at her parent's home in Illinois, December 24, 1864. Last Christmas Mr and Mrs Drumm and family celebrated their golden wedding. They made their home in Illinois until 1896, when they moved to Eldorado, Butler county, Kan., where they resided two years. From there they moved to Nodaway county, Missouri, and eight years later the family moved to Bedford [Iowa]. Since then they have lived on a farm near this city and during the last six years have lived in Bedford.

There were eight children in this family, Frederick N. died September 15, 1902, and Bertie R. June 5, 1913. The living children are William S. of Frederick, Okla; Edwin R. of Conway [Iowa], Epha M. of Bedford, Mrs Nellie E. Tracy of Maryville, Mo.

Mrs Drumm early became a member of the United Brethren church. When the family moved to Bedford she united with the Methodist Episcopal church of this city. Bedford Free-Press, Bedford, Iowa, Apr 28, 1914

Drumm, Louisa White - In the obituary of Mrs Drumm there were some accidental omissions. The list of living children should have included Lewis M. Drumm of Bedford and Emery L. Drumm of Stillwater, Okla. Among the relatives from a distance attending the funeral should have been mentioned Mr and Mrs Reuben Davis of Abingdon, Ill. Mrs Davis is a sister of Mr Drumm. [130] Duley, Marjorie, age 65, of Clarinda, Iowa, died Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 26, 2005 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held 4-6 p.m., Sunday, September 25, 2005 at the funeral home. Burial will be in High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry, Missouri. Marjorie J. Duley was born July 19, 1940, at Sabetha, Kansas, to John and Helen (McDonald) Dearden. She was united in marriage May 23, 1960 at Seneca, Kansas to Robert Wesley Duley. They lived in the Kansas City and Liberty, Missouri area for five years, Stanberry, Missouri for a year and LaVista, Nebraska for thirty years before retiring to Clarinda. Marjorie enjoyed cats and she also enjoyed knitting, crafts and flower and vegetable gardening.

Preceding Marjorie in death were her parents; brother, Richard Sorrell; sisters, Marilyn Noble and Carmen Bjorn.

Survivors include her husband, Robert of Clarinda, Iowa; nephew, Richard Dietrich and wife Doris of Lake Isabella, California; nieces, Mary Byrd and husband Jerry of Dudley, North Carolina, Cynthia Noble and Richard Baldozier of Omaha, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Clara Mae Holonya and husband Ed of Riverside, California; sister-in-law, Hazel Reece of Kansas City, Missouri; brother-in-law, Marvin Duley and wife Phylliss of Oak Hill, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

Dungan, Isaac – Isaac Dungan, one of the oldest and most substantial citizens of this community, died at his home northwest of Hopkins [Missouri] last Saturday after a long and painful illness with stomach trouble.

The funeral was conducted on Monday by Rev Seelig and burial took place in the Shearer cemetery [Page County, Iowa].

Isaac Johnson Dungan was born Oct 25, 1829 in Fayette county, Indiana. He moved with his parents when he was about six years old to Delaware county, Indiana, near Muncie, where he grew in manhood and became a blacksmith. In 1865 he came to Page county, Iowa, and finally settled in Clarinda. He was married December 21, 1870, to Amanda Jane McFarland, who survives him. Two children were born to them, Harry and Harmon clyde, the younger of these died August 15, 1879, aged 2 years. Mr Dungan moved from Clarinda to his present home northwest of Hopkins October 1, 1872, where he died June 7, 1902, aged 72 years, 7 months and 13 days.-- Hopkins Journal, Hopkins, Missouri [Page County Democrat, Jun 19, 1902]
