Cain Cemetery
transcribed by Pat O'Dell: genpat@netins.net

Cain Cemetery is in Section 8, Green Township, Nodaway County, Missouri. It is an abandoned cemetery and must be entered through a gate and by driving in a field. There no longer is a road by or to this cemetery. I copied these stones in 1969. They are not in rows and I very well may have missed stones due to the condition of the cemetery. Please also check with the copy of this done by the Nodaway County group. They not only copied stones, but checked other sources as well.

This was also called Shell Grove community and some referred to this as Shell Grove Cemetery. There was a church near here that was called Wesley Chapel and the cemetery is sometimes called Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

I have cross-checked this with the material I gathered for the book, Newspaper Abstracts of Nodaway County, Missouri, 1869 - 1900, and added some burials. An obituary can be wrong and maybe this isn't the place the person was buried, so beware! There are no stones for the ones given as a newspaper entry.
